Imara Novoron |

"Yes. Let's go. At this point, I think getting there in daylight and resolving this quickly are more valuable than having all of the right tools..." She trails off, a surprised look on her face. "I never thought I'd say that, but it's true! If we had more money, it would be a different story!" She laughs a bit and exits Clamor, feeling excited about the possibility of visiting the Plague House and hopefully solving this mystery - and finding Brynia and Othden.
As she leaves the building her eyes fall on the gathering crowd and she sighs. "All the more reason to hurry - so we can put that BS to rest!"

Imara Novoron |

Imara looks at Rory in surprise. Me?! Apparently, the town hates me. She listens to what Rory says, then replies, I suppose you might be right. I can try.
She walks quickly toward the crowd. Listen up! I know Samuel's got you all riled up! I get it. This is scary. We lost someone important to the town. But, who are you?! Are you Trunauans or not? We know what the risk is and we stay here anyway because the community - our community - is worth it! Are you just going to turn tail and run and leave those who can't leave quickly here to fend for themselves? If there is an attack coming, do you really think you'll be safer on the road? What if you won't make it in time? We've been through a lot in Trunau - and we've survived. This whole town is built for defense! We are strong - and stronger together. If you want to listen to this coward - She gestures toward the wainwright - then fine. But, don't take the rest of us down with you! Make yourselves useful and start preparing for a fight. Maybe it will come and maybe it won't, but standing here screaming and crying doens't help anyone. You're better than this!
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

Shel |

Shel and Phoenix follow Imara, but not to help her. Such weak willed and spineless people should be excised from the tribe lest they hold the entire tribe back. ”Let them leave and be slaughtered like goats. I don’t see any contributors among them, anyways. They won’t be missed. A large group of idiots wandering around in the dark deserve what they’ll get out there.” She says in a scathing tone to Imara.

Phoenix the Magnificent |

Phoenix turns away from the crowd and sniffs in derision. I wash my talons of this nonsense. I have worthy lives to save.

Rory Cornelius |
Smiling as the frightened crowd begins to disperse,, Rory hears Shel reprimand Imara. A little surprised Rory turns Thistle towards Imara, "Don't listen to her Imara, you did great." Looking toward Shel, he continues, "Shame one you, they were just frightened buy that idiot Samual running his mouth. Were not like the orcs, every one here in Trunua has value." He smiles, "Even if we need to give them a swift kick in the rear to help them find it."
He turns Thistle back towards the gate, "Come on, we better get going, we have to ride halfway around the town to get to the 'plague house."

Ovril Necul Havayselvay |

Ovril loudly exhales as the situation is deescalated by Imara's words. Whatever is coming for Trunau, well, Ovril knows it won't be pretty. "Yes, what Rory said. There is power in unity, and Trunau needs to be as once with the storm that's coming."
What storm exactly, he has no clue, but everything seems to be pointing at a disastrous convergence of plots, plans, and schemes with Trunau in the middle of it.

Rydell Derrick Ellindorr |

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Rydell mutters as the others discuss. glancing towards Shel.
Though, even a weak link can hold for a short period. And it can be made better in the fire of the forge. Or something like that anyway. I don't know much about smithing. Yes, lets get on our way. Good job Imara. We aren't forgetting anything before we head to the plague house, are we?

GMMichael |

If everyone is amenable...Ill move you along to Plaguehouse
The Group gathers together and exits the gates and turns towards the Barterstones, and begins to follow the trail around Trunau towards The Burnt shell of Plaguehouse.
if anyone has something else to do, let me know before I move you along...

Imara Novoron |

The crowd calls out in agreement with Imara and starts to drift off. She looks around at her companions. It worked!
At Shel's comment, Imara holds her gaze for a few seconds. I can't say I completely disagree with you, except that I think they would be missed. We need everyone we can get and, though they may have had a moment of weakness, that doesn't mean they don't have something of value to add to the town. She cocks her head and studies Shel curoiusly for awhile, but says nothing more.
She is brought back to the moment as the others thank her. She shrugs a bit and tries to hide a smile, then moves out of town with the others. We should send out a couple of scouts before we get too close. I'm happy to volunteer.

Imara Novoron |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Imara scowls at the back of Rory's head and moves off to the side of the group, looking for any signs of trouble and glancing ahead frequently, anxious to spot their destination.

GMMichael |

The group leaves the safety of Trunau and passes past the Barterstones and begins the short trek around the town . The ground is farily well travelled and a well trod path shows the easiest quickest route.
The town walls stand nearby and several Militia members waave as you travel. Once you round the corner heading south where the upper quarter dominates the landscape, there is no wall, just a few guard towers watching the distance and keeping folks from climbing.
At one point the group passes into a particular rocky area, hidden from the towers and suddenly bursting from the sand around you are several females with crossbows, shortswords and some strange metallic tubes.
They were laying in wait for you...that is apparent.

If there's a roll20 map to accompany this fight, I can't see it. The play area is completely black - perhaps as a result of the fog of war?
Uncertain if the assailants would give him the time to complete his spell, Ovril calls upon Fate to confuse and overwhelm an assailant who could threaten him.
Std action: cast Daze
Move action: move (if possible) into a position where Ovril can't be struck by a stray crossbow bolt. If not possible, he'll crouch/make himself small to gain a whoopin' +2 to AC vs ranged attacks.
Will save vs Daze DC 13: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
The character cannot take any actions for 1 round, but suffers no penalties to AC and isn't flat-footed. Can't be dazed again for 1 minute.

Rory Cornelius |
Realizing that he had not drawn a weapon, Rory takes the defensive, Squeezing his legs tightly he tells Thistle " Kwusi chebe" Having told Thistle to stop and defend. Rory Casts 'entangle right in front of himself so it covers the ground in front of him growing in the area of the three attackers in front of him. Calling to his friends, "Watch the weeds to the front!" He then draws his rapier looking to see if any of them make it through the plant growth.
Sorry I couldn't figure out how to draw a 40 ft radius on the map, but if I put it right in front of Rory it should entangle all three. (I hope) Standard action cast Entangle (Reflex save 12) move action: draws rapier

Rydell reacts instinctively, drawing his longbow as Rory summons the vines.
I think thats new. He ponders momentarily, causing him to lose focus and distract him enough to completely miss his target.
attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Imara Novoron |

Imara unslings her shortbow and fits it with an arrow, aiming at the one assassin who is not entangled (and therefore the greatest threat). She makes note of the strange tubes they are holding and briefly wonders what they are before her survival instincts take over and she fires.
She curses softly as her shot just barely misses the woman, who steps out of the way and the last minute.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
I just remembered that Imara gets a +1 trait bonus to initiative from Ambush Training. It doesn't really matter in this combat, but I wanted to mention it for next time.

GMMichael |

Ovril moved to get into the center of the group and lessen his exposure and stared at one of the assassins who shook her head and looked a little slackjawed.
Rory caused the ground cover to start writhing and grabbing at three of the assassins. Two of them find there legs and arms grabbed by vines.
Rydell turns and fires his bow, missing his target.
Imara two fires her bow missing her target.
The assassins begin to react. The first to Rory's west, struggles to move through the mass of vines and gets closer but slowly.
The one to Rory's south quickly steps out of the vines and circles around the rock to her front putting the rocks between her and the party trying to get into a striking position.
Three, being grabbed by the vines, slowly moves out of the vines, and pours some liquid into the tube which turns into a crystalline blade as she advances close to Ovril.

As he see's the three move from the bramble, Using his knees he turns Thistle away from the foliage. Feeling a wave flow over him, calling to Shel. "I fear these are not just desert bandits my friend."
Picking the enemy easiest to sick Thistle on, Rory points her towards the assailant east of him and touching her flanks, whispering in her ear "ụgwọ" they charge. Running at the assassin, Thistle bites the assailant and drag it to the ground as Rory stabs them with his rapier.

She breathes out in wonder and speaks quietly to herself. What is THAT?

Rory spun Thistle around and digger his heels into the wolfs side they rushed forward to attack the Assassin with the crossbow, The Woman got stabbed in the thigh with a rapier and bit on the other leg, dragged off her feet to land on her back on the ground.

EEP! Do I need to roll a fort save for the poison as well?
Roll to stabilize: 1d20 ⇒ 13

Ovril Necul Havayselvay |

Yes. The poison goes on until you save vs a DC 13. I assume it only needs one successful save to get rid of it!
"Ai, we need some help back here!", Ovril screams in what is almost a shriek. He stumbles back and without knowing it, draws another javelin and chucks the viciously sharp utensil of death at an assassin.

Rory slashed out at the woman crawling away and missed, thistle however didnt and bit hard into the leg. The killer screamed from pain of the wolves bite.
Ovril throws another Javelin, this time at the Assassin that Shel had just struck. The Javelin stick right in the chest of the ambusher and she clutched it once...before slumping to the ground., Phoenix dodged the body as it fell.
Rory saw the other assassin coming up and backed Thistle up before launching an attack against this assailant, he missed with his sword but Thistle grabbed the woman by the leg and through her to the ground.
Imara lay on the ground breathing shallowly, her body fighting off the poison, but not ceasing to bleed
Rydell dropped his bow and pulled the elven curve blade out, nearly cutting the assassin in half.
The assassin just knocked to the ground stood up opening herself up to attacks from both Rory and Thistle both gain an attack of opportunity
the assassin that had crawled away from the mounted halfling also stood up.
The assassin that had flanked Imara stepped near to Rydell and struck out with the Crystalline blade attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 41d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 Rydell deftly blocked the blow with his sword.

Rory Cornelius |
The assassin just knocked to the ground stood up opening herself up to attacks from both Rory and Thistle both gain an attack of opportunity
figure I'll get it out of the way now
Seeing the assassins' attempt to stand, Rory touches his heels to Thistles flanks, telling her "Bite her again." As Thistle bristles and bites, Rory thrusts at the woman's chest as Thistle almost tears the woman's leg off.
AOO/bless
AOO: Rapier: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 = 12 for damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
AOO: bite: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 2 + 1 = 23 for damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 if successful trip: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 2 + 1 = 12
Thistle crit: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 2 + 1 = 12 for damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
So the AOO against someone standing, is it against a targets regular AC or the -4 AC from being prone? I'm only asking because it may make a difference here :)

also, thistle cannot trip them on an AoO from standing, as they are technically still prone.
Rydell shouts to Shel as he fends off his attacker.
Shel! Can you help Imara at all?! That is a lot of blood.

Shel |

Shel drops her spear and draws from her satchel a foot-long wooden tube with a painted etching of a blue river boarded by green plants winding its way around the tube from one end to the other. She removes the waterproof wooden stopper from one end and tips the tube, depositing the scroll held within into her hand. Dropping the protective scroll case, she unrolls the double-cylinder scroll. She had penned the scroll a few weeks before, just in case. This scroll held two castings of healing spells and was written in blue and green ink to reflect colors she felt represented healing magic. She begins reading aloud from the topmost spell inscribed on the vellum, the words inked on the page disappearing as she reads them aloud. On completion, illusory waves of water and leaves wash over Imara and her wounds close.
Move action to draw scroll. Standard action to use scroll on Imara.
Scroll of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
She was at -6, so that puts her at 0, right?

Phoenix the Magnificent |

As Phoenix pecks the woman’s leg -a mere distraction from his main attack-, he summons a large thorn from the nearby brush that flings itself through the air and impales her through her heart. She falls, dead. As she falls, he fluidly flutters out from underneath her, perching on the haft of the thorn as it juts into the air from her prone body. You never had a chance. He clucks, almost disappointed at how easy she was for him to fell all by himself.

Ovril Necul Havayselvay |

Locked in combat with one of the assassins, Ovril dips down and lashes out with the scarf that was wrapped around his neck and torso. Somehow, with one firm tug, the whole thing comes undone and ends up being a deadly weapon.
Move action: draw 'bladed shawl'
Std action: attack (+1 to hit from bless)
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Rory Cornelius |
I'm assuming the assassin in the south is bleeding out
Leaving the mauled assassin where she lay, Rory, using his knees turns Thistle towards the assassin they attacked first. Seeing her come to her feet, he tells Thistle "ụgwọ" the wolf snarls and charges the assassin rearing biting at her neck and face as Rory thrusts with his rapier.
charge Rory's AC 18, Thistles 15 attack: rapier & bite, bless
Rapier: 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 2 + 1 = 21 for damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
bite: 1d20 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 2 + 1 = 13 for damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 if successful: trip: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 = 9

Imara Novoron |

Imara awakes on the ground, her whole body racked with pain. Waves of nausea move through her as she struggles to get her bearings. The sounds of battle surround her and she gradually becomes aware that she is lying on the ground, covered in her own blood (and maybe others'?) and that her friends are continuing to fight around her. She opens her eyes and sees her sword and dagger lying within reach. She grabs the sword and clutches it to her, seeking solace in the idea of at least having some way to defend herself if someone approaches.
I can't really see her getting up right now, given the state she's in. If only she had had enough money for a healing potion!

Rydell Derrick Ellindorr |

Rydell parries the strange blade away before shifting his grip to bring the blade in a downward arc, slashing a huge gash across the assassins chest as he circles around to the assassins side.
attack: 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 4 - 1 = 17
damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

GMMichael |

Thistle and Rory finish off the two wounded Assassin's leaving the unwounded to Ovril and his blades scarf and Rydell and his curve blade. The assassin's all finished and Imara breathing after Shels healing the party takes stock...

the party can advance to 2nd level.spell casters need an hour of game time to learn new spells or they can level up and go to the Plague House without new spells

Rory Cornelius |
Realizing Imara had been injured, Rory calls over; "Is Imara going to be ok?" He dismounts Thistle and begins to checking the bodies, both to see if they are alive and if they have anything of value. Asking as he checks, "Do we want to keep them alive for questioning or put them out of their misery?" He look back the way they came. "If were taking prisoners we should take them back to town."
he will take 10 (20) on perception frisking the two near him, and roll healing to see if they are alive.
heal: south body: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
heal: south east body: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

Rydell Derrick Ellindorr |

It would be best to take one alive, They most know at least something. But it seems we have spooked someone... and quickly.
He moves to Imara before kneeling down and resting a hand on her shoulder. He looks her over and sighs a sigh of relief before asking.
How are you doing? Do you need a hand?

Ovril Necul Havayselvay |

Cast 'cure light wounds' on Imara. That's all Ovril has for now :\
CLW: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Ovril works a strange kind of magic to put Imara back together. A cloak of stars washes over her wounds and, through means altogether too mystical for the Cartomancer to understand, the stars undo the wounds and knit the elf back together. Well, most of her. "She'll be okay, given time. The body and mind will remember the trauma, so please, Imara, don't ask too much of yourself right away."

GMMichael |

Rory kneels checking a couple of the bodies noting they are dead. He also notes the gear they had. 6 light crossbows, 59 bolts, 6 shorts words, the 6 suits of leather armor are all pretty damaged, 3 of those metallic tubes that sprouted crystalline blades. 3 of the clear bottles of venom. (Giant centipede poison), 6 bottles of a creamy white liquid, 6 sets of thieves tools, 6 smoke sticks, 6 50gp gems, 24 gold.
