Roni scratches his head a bit, then starts tapping himself with the wand of heightened awareness. "That was weird, and pretty frustrating. I'd vote Seer's District, I don't particularly enjoy heading down and deep."
Do we also have an option to go to the Armorer's district, since Redalia said that only the Temple District was claimed? Or is there no reason to go there at this point anymore, just pushing forward?

Heightened awareness: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22 -> for the first 10 minutes
Heightened awareness: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16 -> fail
HA: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 -> success for the next 10 minutes
So I'll have HA up if we face an encounter on the way to the next location, and HA up with 5 minutes left when we reach the next location.

I've got no problem with that. Troi says with a shrug. Dabbled in a few mining shindigs in my time, but I'll be honest: never quite got the business. There's rocks, and shiny rocks, anything more than that's a bit fuzzy

You make your way to the Seer's District and find your selves in a cavern with hundreds of stalactites extending from the ceiling thirty feet overhead. Dirt and stony debris litter the cave floor, along with discarded scrolls, bits of bone, and a few jawless skulls. Moisture drips from the stalactites into seven natural pools scattered about the chamber, which bears a putrescent odor.

The group continues its investigation of the Seer's District (technically, you have the option to move to another district now if you wish, but in the interest of moving us along I'm going to assume you want to continue exploring here unless you object)

Slides updated. Although this area appears to have open sides, it is actually a room enclosed by walls along the map’s periphery. There is a 10-foot-wide entrance in the center of the south (i.e. lefthand) wall (i.e., just in front of where I've placed Thurismund and Loxx).

A large two-tier platform with a rectangular stone altar dominates this chamber. A narrow channel stained red runs around its floor, twisting in strange patterns. The platform is flanked by six statues of demonic mien that reach out with wicked claws. From a distance one can see that there are some implements on the altar, though details aren’t discernible without closer examination.

Knowledge (arcana or religion) DC 15:
You recognize that the chamber was once used for performing auguries based on its layout, furnishings, and decorations.

Knowledge (arcana or religion) DC 25:
You identify the statues as so-called “beasts of ignorance,” mythological creatures common in the artwork of a divination cult known as the Vision Unveiled.

What would you like to do?

In the interest of moving us along... Agate and Troi move up to the altar to investigate. Once they get closer, they can see a knife made of silver and colored tiles fixed into the stone surface of the altar, dingy with age.

Note: skill checks require moving into the room

DC 20 Knowledge (arcana or religion):
These 16 tiles are a divination aid akin to oracle bones, harrow cards, or a spirit planchette. You can both identify their ritual use and realize that different configurations of the tiles often have special significance. You think that you would need to spend at least a minute studying the tile patterns to learn more. Let me know if you wish to do so.

Slides updated with a handout, showing the arrangement of the 16 tiles. Note that the scenario specifically states that you cannot keep this handout (though you may make notes about it), so I'll leave it up for a week and then it will be removed. Please do not simply screen shot it (unless your PC has some ability equivalent to a photographic memory) but feel free to take whatever notes you like, but please tell me what (in-game) method you are using to take notes, so that I can tell you how long it will take. Also, note that only those up by the altar can even see the tiles.

As soon as Agate and Troi mount the highest tier of the platform, a red liquid is released from skull mouths carved in the base of the altar on its left and right sides. This liquid begins to fill the twisting channel. It looks like it will take about 2 rounds before the channel is filled.

DC 20 Craft (alchemy) or Knowledge (arcana):
This liquid is a substance once used in divination magic that fell out of fashion

DC 25 Craft (alchemy) or Knowledge (arcana):
The oil had deleterious effects on augurs after years of exposure.

GM screen:

Fetch: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Thurismund: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

Note to self: The tile pattern is visual tool used in divinations. A PC who spends at least 1 minute studying the tile patterns can attempt a Knowledge (arcana or religion) check with a DC equal to 15 plus the PCs’ APL (8) = 23. Success earns Supplies.

Note: we are not in initiative, but I am tracking what happens in rounds. In the interest of moving us along, please feel free to post multiple rounds worth of actions all at once and I'll retcon as needed if something happens. Heh heh.

Just then, your old friend Chiara runs by. "Hey, how's it going? No time to stop and chit chat, but I hope you all are having as much fun as I am! I'll do what I can to help you..."

As noted earlier, in a multi-table special such as this one, the idea is that hundreds of your fellow Pathfinders are fighting and exploring alongside you, and you can all potentially help each other. This is represented through the abstract game mechanic of Aid Tokens. Your group has just received one. Please see the link below (also noted in the Campaign Header) for details about how they can be used. Any of you can decide to use the aid token. Once it has been used you can pass it on to another table (and you are encouraged to help the aid tokens keep circulating to maximize their effectiveness) Because there is always a tendency for tables to sit on the Aid Tokens without using them, if your group does not use this one either in this current encounter, or your next one, I'll pass it along unused to another group after that. Note that, in this particular special, there is no mechanic for "boosting" the aid tokens, as is found in some more recent specials.

"No idea what's whappening, but I don't like the look of it. You two do your thing, I'll keep a lookout." Roni moves up to the platform, mostly gazing at the sinisterlooking statues, but also glancing over his shoulder to see what the two are doing. "Somebody take the other side, in case those turn out to be gargoyles or some sort of golems."

Roni takes a quick glance at the tiles, if he has time, muttering to himself: "Huh. Four by four. All the squares are identical, except for the upper right and lower left. I wonder why those two are different." Basically, trying to memorize the general shape (4x4 square) and the corners that differ from everything else.

If that takes less than the 2 rounds, the next observation would be: "Red against red, yellow against yellow. Never red against yellow." Idea isn't to actually trace the whole design or trying to remember all the details, but those two bits of information should be enough rebuild the picture from scratch without actual knowledge or memory of what it looked like, or at least offer a solid foundation.

Agate frowns as she watches the red liquid spill onto the altar. "I read something once about an old form of divination using this... can't remember where."

She takes out a bit of paper and sketches whole arrangement on the top of the altar, including tiles, knife, and skulls. She nods at Roni and adds his observation. If there's time before whatever happens happens...

As most of the party moves in, Troi actually sidles away from the altar. Seeing there's little up on the dais but tiles and a weird liquid, he sidles closer to the exit, calling out:

I get it, Report and all that. But quick as you can, yeah? Last bit of history near some statues nearly killed a ghost. He gestures towards Thurismund for emphasis. A ghost!

Troi may not have been paying that much attention the day the Society went over spiritualism.

Btw, I've added a slide with everyone's saves. Please take a moment to check it and make sure I haven't made any mistakes, and also add any relevant situational modifiers or changes I may have missed. Thx.

It takes about 12 seconds (i.e. two rounds) for the red liquid to fill the channel. Other than that, nothing obvious happens as Roni and Agate study the tiles and other accoutrements and Loxx stands guard, while Troi advocates for a quick exit.

GM Screen:

Perception
Agate: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Alaric: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (9) + 0 = 9
Loxx: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30

Thurismund: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

A short while later (three further rounds later), Loxx, Roni, and Fetch all notice a sharp odor of cinnamon and vinegar, as the combination of the ancient oil (concentrated after years in storage) and the carbon dioxide being exhaled by the PCs creates a gas known as augur’s vapors, which fills the room and the corridor beyond.

Fort saves vs the vapors:

Fort, Loxx: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23

Fort, Sindelle: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 (+4 vs death effects +2 vs negative energy, energy drain, necromancy spells)

Everyone but Agate and Sindelle manage to resist the effects of the poison gas. At least for now.

Suddenly, the bag spits out a wand straight into his hand. "Lesser restoration, 12 charges, emergencies only - Use it sparingly, but try to save the lives of those two already coughing the air."
A moment later, a small vial appears as well."Antitoxin. Give it to..." - glancing over the two quickly - "Agate if he comes to his senses for long enough to drink it in the next six seconds, Sindelle if he doesn't. Can you do that, small plant guy? OTHERWISE WE NEED SOMEONE FROM BACK THERE TO COME UP HERE AND GET THESE THINGS!
NOW!"

Roni takes a step backwards and holds the wand and the potion ready for anyone to grab. "I'll also need some parchment or the like - some scroll might do - and something to write or draw with. Well, I do have a map and a book on various plants and animals, but I'd rather not mess it up, and I still need something to write with."

This would be a good moment to check through your chronicle boons, I think >.> And drink those antitoxins <.<

Troi continues to hold his breath but this does not prevent him from reaching out and successfully touching Sindelle and temporarily alleviating her confusion. Sindelle, when your turn comes up in the initiative you will be able to act normally. Troi, move action to move to Sindelle and standard to touch her, so your turn ends and you are still in the gas but you can move out next turn.

@All, the scenario doesn't give me any guidance about how far away you have to move to be out of the gas, so I'll just say that the gas extends for 30' outside the room. If you move 35' beyond the room entrance you will not have to save.

Roni easily resists the effects of the gas and holds out a wand of Lesser Restoration and an antitoxin for someone to take.

Some friendly GM advice: unless one of you has Life Bubble, Neutralize Poison, or the like, you will all have to continue saving vs the poison as long as you remain in the gas. I had never realized this before, but unlike other poisons, doses of *inhaled* poisons stack. So you might want to think about ways to get those of you who are already poisoned out of the cloud as quickly as possible.

Alaric, Thurismund, Loxx, and Fetch can act!
