Giving the hounds a wide berth, Agate rushes to the entrance to the room to see what the ruckus is.
Knowledge (Dungeoneering): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Not recognizing anything useful about the oozes, she holds out a candle stub on one hand, waves a tiny bag above it with the other, and chants. Casting Summon Monster IV.

1:00 Round 2
Conditions: Aura of Fury (auto effect all 20' around Thurismund; +2 to melee atks, -2 to AC); Raging Song/Inspired Rage (+2 morale Str & Con, +1 morale Will, –1 AC, no casting or other concentration-based actions, must declare whether accepting each round); Bless (+1 morale bonus to attack and saves vs fear, started round 1)
Roni - dmg; antitoxin (1:40);
Troi - dmg;
Loxx - dmg; DR 2/-; Deadeye's Lore (6:05); Barkskin (2:05); Lucky Number 3; Shillelagh (1/10);
Fetch - dmg; Longstrider (6:05)
Alaric - 34 dmg; raging song (started round 1); dorn-dergar set to 10' reach; grappled; 19 acid dmg to clothing and armor; swift action used on escape artist attempt;
Thurismund - dmg; From before (possibly healed before fight started?): 11 dmg; 21 non-lethal dmg; 2 con dmg; Aura of Fury; ectoplasmic;
Red - 73 dmg; grappled;
Blue - 73 dmg; hypnotic stare (-4 will, -3 attacks); psychic inception (+2 vs saves & 50% chance to ignore each round);
Sindelle - 18 dmg; Life Link (Agate, Alaric, Loxx, Troi); Compel Alacrity trick; Deathwatch (1:05); poisonedx2;
Agate - 1 dmg; 1 CON dmg; 1 DEX dmg; See Invisibility (1:30); Lucky Number 8; summoning 1 dire bat;
Roni sends another blast of flame into the midst of the slimy creatures... I assume you can target this in such a way that it doesn't hit your friends?
Red Reflex DC 19, grappled: 1d20 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (4) - 2 - 2 = 0Blue Reflex DC 19: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 3
... doing full damage to both of them.
In the heat of battle and her urgency to rescue Alaric, Sindelle forgets about the trap that the group had discovered just a short while ago, and blunders right into it. As soon as she passes between the hound statues, both sculptures turn with startling speed and lunge forward on a moving plate, attempting to bite her... :-(
Hound 1: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (14) + 20 = 34
dmg: 1d8 ⇒ 5
Sindelle Fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Hound 1: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (10) + 20 = 30
dmg: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Sindelle Fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
... both hounds manage to bite her. As she does so, she notices that their stone jaws seem to be covered in some sort of paste. She doesn't immediately notice any negative effect from this, but it is worrisome. I'm pretty sure that this is a mistake in the scenario, but since it's to your advantage I'm going with it.
Rushing past the stone hounds - which appear not to be any further immediate threat, as the chains to which they are attached begin to retract - Sindelle continues with her mission of mercy, casting Liberating Command on Alaric...
Alaric, Immediate action Escape Artist: 1d20 + 2 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 12 = 16
... unfortunately he is not quite able to wriggle free. Let me know if I've missed any modifiers here - you are very close. It's possible that Red's CMD should be reduced by 2 due to being grappled, but I think that Alaric possibly has an armor check penalty of -3 as well, neither of which I've counted here.
Seeing all this, Sindelle calls upon the Gods themselves to aid her party. Bless is in effect. Note that Bless and Inspired Rage *do* stack, since the former is a morale bonus to *attacks* and the latter is a morale bonus to *strength* (which of course has the effect of boosting attacks).
Agate realizes that the group could use some assistance and begins to summon a Dire Bat.
Beginning of Round 2
The bold may act!
Roni the Flame Alchemist |
It's just 10ft radius burst, 40ft high cylinder, at a point in ground in a range of 120ft, so, easy enough. I'm sorry for the ugly drawing, I couldn't figure out how to make it just the lines, or how to change the colour of the lines! Sorry! Feel free to remove it.
Roni the Flame Alchemist |
Nah, can't do PVP, I will ask for permission first if situation arises that really, really needs to include friendly fire.
Your boy, Troi |
@Troi, the way I read Psychic Inception it a) causes your hypnotic stare to work on the creature (not 50% of the time, but all the time), and b) gives it a +2 save bonus and 50% chance to ignore each round vs your (other) mind-affecting spells and abilities. Is that also how you read it? Implications: c) it does nothing to make it susceptible to other PCs mind-affecting stuff, and d) you still need to e.g. cast a spell on it and *then* it gets to make a 50% roll to ignore. No need to retcon for this round but fyi for future rounds and let me know if you think I've got the interpretation wrong.
No, you're definitely right. Just got this ability, so looks like I didn't read it as clearly as I should have.
So it is affected by my stare (-3 attacks, -4 Will), and if I (but no one else) wants to try and use a mind-effecting spell or ability on it, it has a 50% chance to even possibly effect it, and then its save is at +2Troi rushes forwards towards the molten mass Alric is stuck in. Gross bro! Let's get you outta there. Fair warning though, pretty sure you're gonna need a long shower or three after this.
He stares at this other blob, then strikes out at it.
Move, swift action to change the Stare to Red, then strike. It has a 50% to ignore the painful strike damage (though no save) and regardless is taken a -3 penalty on its attacks (and its CMB!)
Also, accepting Raging Song
Attack: 1d20 + 11 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 11 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 33 for damage: 1d6 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 1 = 7 plus Painful Stare?: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 1) + 4 = 10
Loxx |
I'm waiting to see if Thurismund moves up. I can attack if I can move forward 30 feet and enlarge myself so that I have reach. Otherwise, I'm too far away.
Thurismund Ir'Ganak |
So I'm guessing this is a bad time to have one's project kick into high gear and a local con to prep for huh?
***Previously***
"I will accept your... Healing. Only so that I might DESTROY more dirty fey..."
***Now***
"YOU WISH TO FIGHT? I WILL REND YOU ASSUNDER!" howls Thurismund as he steps up to his target and begins to pummel it.
Slam, PA, Raging Song (Aura of Fury): 1d20 + 10 + 1 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 10 + 1 - 2 + 2 = 22
damage: 2d6 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (3, 6) + 3 + 4 = 16
Slam, PA, Raging Song (Aura of Fury): 1d20 + 10 + 1 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 1 - 2 + 2 = 14
damage: 2d6 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3) + 3 + 4 = 11
Alaric ir'Ganak |
Alright, so insofar as Alaric's items worn, The breastplate is made of iron (Hardness 10) and has an enchantment bonus of +3 which bumps it up to 16. So it takes 3 points of damage, which is nowhere near enough to break the armor. However, all of the expensive jewelry on Alaric is now fairly slag-ish. Does it retain its value? Somewhat, but I'm not sure how much. What matters here though is that Alaric is now sickened (see the "Shards of Sin" chronicle sheet for playing/running Shattered Star book 1).
This is fine.
Alaric begins to hurl as his fine jewelry is ruined by the acid. Tears in his eyes, he attempts to escape the creature's grasp!
CMB vs Red: 1d20 + 9 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 9 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 21
OK, I'll start looking at my prestige total.
Loxx |
Loxx hears the raging song and gets angry.
Then he advances and gets more angry.
Then he gets big and angry.
So he decides to smash one of the oozes.
Red would be the primary choice if still standing, then blue.
Quarterstaff (Vital Strike): 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (1) + 19 = 20 Damage: 6d6 + 19 ⇒ (5, 6, 1, 1, 6, 1) + 19 = 39
And manages to somehow miss the big, slow ooze.

1:00 Round 2->3
Roni - dmg; antitoxin (1:40);
Troi - dmg; raging song; 3 acid dmg to swordcane (less any hardness);
Loxx - 26 dmg; DR 2/-; Deadeye's Lore (6:05); Barkskin (2:05); Lucky Number 3; Shillelagh (1/10); raging song; enlarged; grappled; 12 acid dmg to clothing and armor (less any hardness);
Fetch - dmg; Longstrider (6:05)
Alaric - 29 dmg; raging song (started round 1); dorn-dergar set to 10' reach; 3 dmg to armor; fancy jewelry destroyed; shaken;
Thurismund - 23 dmg; 2 con dmg; Aura of Fury; ectoplasmic; DR 5/magic, 5/slashing; 9 acid dmg to clothing and armor (less any hardness); grappled;
Red - dmg; hypnotic stare (-4 will, -3 attacks); psychic inception (+2 vs saves & 50% chance to ignore each round); grappled;
Yellow - dmg; squeezing;
Blue - 100 dmg; grappled;
Sindelle - 28 dmg; Life Link (Agate, Alaric, Loxx, Troi); Compel Alacrity trick; Deathwatch (1:05); poisonedx2;
Agate - 1 dmg; 1 CON dmg; 1 DEX dmg; See Invisibility (1:30); Lucky Number 8; summoning 1 dire bat;
Troi rushes forward to help the grappled Alaric, changing the focus of his hypnotic stare to Red and stabbing out at the huge creature with his sword cane. He easily hits it, but unfortunately it does not have the effect he expected. Instead of harming the monstrosity, it splits into two equally huge, equally hungry, beasts! Now indicated as Red and Yellow on the map. I'm going to say that Red still has the grappled condition with Alaric and the hypnotic stare from Troi.
Potion of CMW: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4) + 3 = 11
Potion of CMW: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (1, 6) + 3 = 10
This heals all the lethal and non-lethal dmg Thurismund had taken earlier. He still has 2 Con dmg.
Thurismund angrily slams into Blue, hitting it twice, and causing it to shake the massive quantity of jello it resembles.
Meanwhile, the Kellid hero begins to feel nauseous as his prized collection of bejeweled trinkets dissolves in the ooze's acid embrace. It's difficult to say whether he is more concerned with his necklaces, or his neck.
@Alaric, by my reading of your boon you are permanently sickened, at least until you replace the jewelry and fine clothing.
Inspired by his own angry song, the aura of rage that surrounds his phantom, and his own fury at seeing his prized finery turned into corroded chaff, Alaric amazingly pulls himself free from the hulking mound. Neither Alaric nor Red have the grappled condition any longer.
Into this chaos, Loxx rushes forward and swings his Shillelagh like it is the bottom of the ninth inning of the seventh game of the world series, but he somehow manages to catch only air.
Red hungrily, and mindlessly, reaches out, clearly not yet satiated with its small snack...
target 1 Troi, 2 Alaric, 3 Loxx: 1d3 ⇒ 3
...It seems that it wants a larger meal.
slam, aura of fury, hypnotic stare: 1d20 + 8 + 2 - 3 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 2 - 3 = 16 @Loxx, I think this hits you? AC is normally 19 but I think with enlarge, raging song, aura of fury, and barkskin it is now 16? Let me know if this is wrong and I'll retcon.
dmg: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 3) + 4 = 11 + acid: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9
Grab, aura of fury, hypnotic stare: 1d20 + 16 + 2 - 3 ⇒ (10) + 16 + 2 - 3 = 25 @Loxx, CMD is normally 24, but with the same modifiers as above it is 22? As above, will retcon if needed.
The hungry ooze grapples Loxx and squeezes him.
Constrict dmg: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 3) + 4 = 10 + acid: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
-2 for DR/- for total dmg of 31
Ref, Loxx, enlarged, corrosion: 1d20 + 9 - 1 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 9 - 1 - 4 = 18 @Loxx, your clothing and armor take 12 points of acid damage. Let me know what this translates to after reductions for hardness.
Forgot to roll this before...
Ref, Troi: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
acid dmg: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3
Although Troi's swordcane was unable to harm the ooze, he could not pull it back quickly enough to prevent at least some of the acid from getting on to his weapon. 3 points of acid damage to the sword cane, less any reductions for hardness
With Red dining on Loxx, Blue attempts to devour the corporeal phantom before it.
slam, aura of fury: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 2 = 18 With Aura of Fury I believe this is a hit unless there are any buffs I'm missing
dmg: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 1) + 4 = 8 + acid: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
Grab, aura of fury: 1d20 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 16 + 2 = 36
Constrict dmg: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 6) + 4 = 11 + acid: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6
Blue grapples Thurismund, making him even more angry.
-5 dmg for DR, for total dmg of 23.
Ref,Thurismund: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 [ooc]If Thurismund has clothing or armor they take 9 acid dmg less any hardness
Finally, Yellow squeezes between its two siblings, seeking the only morsel it can reach: Alaric.
slam, aura of fury, squeezing: 1d20 + 8 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 2 - 4 = 11
But fortunately the wounded Kellid warrior is able to dodge out of the way.
dmg: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 3) + 4 = 9 + acid: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11
Grab, aura of fury, squeezing: 1d20 + 16 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 16 + 2 - 4 = 34
Constrict dmg: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 4) + 4 = 12 + acid: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4
Sindelle's life link again activates, healing Alaric and Troi of some of their wounds, and transferring them to herself.
Pathfinders are up!
Roni the Flame Alchemist |
In a hurry, Sorry.
Roni snaps his fingers again, catching all three with the blast.

Roni lets loose another blast of fire in the midst of the trio of ravenous oozes...
Red Reflex: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (4) - 2 = 2Yellow Reflex: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (12) - 2 = 10
Blue Reflex: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (15) - 2 = 13
... and all three are reduced to charred piles of ash and ooze.
Combat Over - Pathfinders are victorious! (Reporting a success)
Go ahead and heal up and do any other buffing you wish. Also, those of you who took acid damage to your possessions, please calculate if any of it gets past the item's hardness.
As the Pathfinders revel in their relief at defeating these monstrous creatures, Sindelle feels a wave of discomfort reminding her of the poison she received from the stone hounds. The poison will onset in another 8 rounds. Let me know if you want to do anything before that to try to negate or reduce the effect of the poison. Once we get the poison resolved we'll move on to another portion of the scenario.
Loxx |
I try to keep my AC up to date. 19 was Loxx's current AC. With barskin active his base AC is 25. (-2 enlarge, -2 rage, -2 fury = 19).

Retconning to reflect that the Black Pudding's attack on Loxx was actually a miss. No damage to Loxx or his clothing/armor. Sindelle gets 5 hp back from life link.
Thurismund Ir'Ganak |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Thurismund's clothing is but a figment of the imagination. No extra damage there!
Sindelle Lifewater |
Sindelle will first approach Alaric and channel to heal both of them (excluding any downed enemies who are unconscious but not dead yet).
Channel positive energy: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 5) = 16
Sindelle heals +6 on top off that, 2/7 channels used now.
(Sindelle only has 6hp damage on her now)
Next she will cast Neutralize Poison on herself (versus the dc of the poison. If she failed both saves and it's the same poison then the dc just goes up by +2 since it's not two seperate things)
Caster level check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
While this happens she'll absorb more damage from Alaric so Alaric has now been healed of 21 points from the 28 he had taken. If she still feels the poison is in her veins...
Heal check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
She'll try Neutralize Poison again (if she got it already, skip this roll)
CL check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
During which time she'd take another 5 from Alaric (so he would be only missing 2hp now and she would be at 16hp down).
She'll follow that up with using her CLW wand on herself until she's fully healthy.
Wand charge 1: 1d8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 2 = 6
Wand charge 2: 1d8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 2 = 8
Wand charge 3: 1d8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 2 = 5
Sindelle's first CLW wand is now empty so she will discard it.
She's either used 1 or 2 of her 3rd level spells depending on the results of her CL checks and heal check and what you decide, GM. Thanks!
Roni the Flame Alchemist |
Ron rushes over to the frontline. "Damn! That looked painful, are you alright? MEDIC!" He turns towards Sindelle. "The man looks rather disraught. I don't think throwing up is a usual reaction to near-death experiences. Did he get poisoned maybe? Do you have anything that might help him?"
After examining the damage done: "It looks like you took a good beating. Good thing the acid didn't quite bite through your armor, though I don't think we can salvage those clothes. If you don't want to walk around in such tatters, though, I should have a spare set of clothing in my backpack. It's... Not really suited for dungeoneering, but at least it's better than going around but-naked, am I right?"
From his bag, Roni pulls out and presents a set of clothing that would be right at home in a royal court, coupled with some rather expensive looking jewelries.
"Uh, you don't have to wear the shiny bits if you don't want to. I think were roughly the same size, if you want to give it a try? Try to take good care of it, though - I received it from Princess Eutropia herself as a reward for services performed for Taldor, and I'd hate to see it ruined."
Obviously, Roni doesn't know what's the matter with Alaric, but it should be apparent that his clothing has largely melted away, and that outfit is literally the only other set of clothing Roni has.
Boon from Honor's Echo: Noble of Taldor: "As a reward, Princess Eutropia herself granted you a Visbarony. [you gain some bonuses, etc]. In addition, you gain a free Noble's Outfit amd several pieces of Jewelry to complete the Ensemble."
After Sindelle is no longer in danger of dying from poison, Roni asks for a couple more taps with Lucky Number (Until he gets 6 or less :P This adventure is the first time I've used it for a damage buff, and I have to say I like it, pretty good chance of rolling a lucky number when you roll 4d6!)
Lucky Number: 1d20 ⇒ 7 Eh, close, but I'll try again
Lucky Number: 1d20 ⇒ 12 Nope
Lucky Number: 1d20 ⇒ 1 -> NICE. 13 charges left

A pair of enormous brass doors blocks the way forward.
Numerous plates are missing from the doors’ surface,
exposing complex clusters of gears, sprockets, springs, and
other confusing clockwork innards. Every second a thousand
gears twist, click, and whir. For all its complexity, the doors
seem to be missing any means of being opened.
GMs, please move your players immediately on to Act 4. Please continue to run F2 until the next announcement.
GM Redelia |
Kreighton Shaine paces back and forth in front of the doors for a moment as several Pathfinder agents tinker with the doors’ complex machinery. Satisfied, he steps up on a piece of debris to address the crowd.
"Congratulations to those of you who have survived the dangers of our expedition thus far. Some of your fellow Pathfinders managed to interrogate a demon lurking here. This beast reports that the Throne Room is the domain of one Yealek-Vor, who we have surmised is a kalavakus demon-priest of the Chained Maiden, the ‘Horned One’ our duergar spoke of. He reportedly possesses something called a ‘Key of the Sky’ and is attended by many fellow demons. We’ll have quite a fight on our hands. But first we require those among us with the skills to find a way through this clockwork portal. I imagine some finesse could persuade them to open."
As the elf finishes his declaration, one of the Pathfinder agents cries out in alarm as the doors begin clacking wildly and grind a trapsmith’s tools into tiny shards. The portal shudders and begins violently sloughing off gears and scrap metal that animate and begin attacking the crowd.
"Or force," shouts Kreighton Shaine above the din. "Brute
force may be in order!"

I assume another 15 minutes of travel time.

Could maybe wedge this in to pry loose a few gears... Troi says, lifting his adamantine cane as the party looks at the doors.

Sorry - didn't have any time to post yesterday. Catching up now!
@Sindelle, healing noted. Don't forget that you also have a stash of healing potions that you all picked up during the very first fight - they are noted on the loot tracker linked on the campaign header for this game. Feel free to use them for future fights if you want to save your channels for in-combat healing.
After channelling to heal her comrades (I've assumed that the channeling also applied to Thurismund unless I'm told otherwise - he had 23 dmg at the end of the fight), Sindelle attempts to cure herself from the poison that is afflicting her. Unfortunately, after casting Neutralize Poison twice, she can still feel the poison flowing in her veins. @Sindelle, do you want to try again? Please decide before looking at the spoilers below
Caster Level check vs DC of the poison: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 Whew, success. Poison is negated before it ever has a chance to do any damage. Total of 3 castings of Neutralize Poison - I think you have 1 3rd level spell slot remaining
After a minute has passed, the poison finally begins to affect the oracle, once each minute.
Fort, Sindelle: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Dex dmg: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Fort, Sindelle: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 However, after two minutes, Sindelle manages to fight off the poison and is cured.
Total of 2 castings of Neutralize Poison (2 3rd level spell slots remaining). 1 point of Dex dmg.
@Sindelle, note that Deathwatch has now expired.
Roni tries to dress up Alaric in some fancy new clothes. While they are not quite as elaborate and expensive as his former garb, at least the angry Kellid is not walking around naked.
With the death of the hungry Black Puddings, the group is now able to proceed through the doors that they had managed to unlock.
@All, go ahead and do any out of combat actions you may have wanted to do before the next portion begins.
Once awe-inspiring with grand statues and an impressive vaulted ceiling 40 feet overhead, this great hall is now a ruin. Most of the statues are badly cracked or broken into fragments, with stone and metal littering the floor, though a few scarred specimens still stand defiantly. Most striking are the two pairs of giant statues that frame the entrances to the hall: dwarven brothers whose now broken arms must have once clasped hand to form archways. All of the surviving statuary bears crude graffiti and profane script written in blood.
If that information was revealed:
By the time the group arrives in this chamber, they see that other Pathfinders have managed to dispatch some demons, and capture another, who has divulged: "Through the great Clockwork Portal is a winding staircase leading to the Throne Room, where Yealek-Vor holds court. He has the Key to the Sky, and he alone can open the portal. Interlopers such as you will need to find another means through those doors. Even then my lord will peel the skin from your flesh and feed your organs to the worms of the Abyss." Just to clarify: the above is story text you would have gathered if we had continued on to the next encounter. I'm including it here just for story continuity purposes, even though we are technically skipping over that encounter and on to what follows below...
As the party stands before another set of enormous doors, with a complex mechanism, Kreighton Shaine speaks to the assembled Pathfinders. (See two overseer posts above)
The doors themselves appear ready to fight you, as various animated elements begin tearing themselves from the doors and attacking you and the gathered assemblage of pathfinders. The rain of mechanical debris coalesces to form a wide range of bizarre shapes. Most of these are only vaguely anthropomorphic and many take even more bizarre shapes.
The party finds itself facing a faceless creature that has a crystal wand set into its chest, bristling with arcane energy.
The door continues to whir as it creates increasingly complex locks to seal itself against the intruders. (The doors occupy the left-most portion of the map. During each encounter, a PC can attempt a Disable Device or Knowledge (engineering) check as a full-round action while adjacent to the door. On a success, this counts as one additional success the next time the table finishes an encounter. A table can gain no more than one additional success in this way per combat.)

Roni the Flame Alchemist |
Roni notices the Arcane Energies and hisses. "MOVE! Spread out soldiers! We're sitting in a classic Pathfinder Fireball Formation!"
Rushing forward, he snaps his fingers. A spark ignites the air like a ball of flame that flies towards the creature before engulfing it in fire.
Empowered Extended Range Fire Blast: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23 vs touch

If that thing is immune to magic, then it's also immune to my fire blast.

Agate, Sindelle, Troi may act!
Roni the Flame Alchemist |
Well, if I can set it on with the Burning infusion, I'll get +2 to hit, DC's, and to overcome spellresistance. Which sounds like a good idea now. But I need to actually penetrate that spell resistance to set it on fire.
Agate |
Linguistics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

Sword cane's adamantine, so it's not even scratched at that level of damaged thankfully (hardness negates it all)
As Roni yells to scatter, Troi takes their advice. Moving north, he ducks behind a piller for cover and concentrates. In a moment 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 more of him erupt around the aasimar's form, each moving slightly askew from the others as he calls out.
Got it: get to the door. Just need to get through that think first!
Casting mirror image. Looks like there's 3 fakes around me (and one me of course)
Lingusitics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Yeah: that 'Yealek-Vor's defintiely a demon. Thinks a lot of himself too, calling himself the king of this place. Not sure if that 'portal' they're yammering about is the door ahead though
Sindelle Lifewater |
Right. I totally forgot about that. Thakns GM! For now I'm okay though since she has a bunch left. She's been excluding Thursimund because of the fey thing but will include him if Alaric wishes it.

Sindelle will not cast for a third time. Better to use lesser restoration wand than my precious 3rd level spell slots.
*opens spoiler*... whew!
Sindelle translates, "It says 'Kneel before Yealek-Vor, King of Jormurdun.'...hm, maybe not the worst thing to kneel in front of, but probably not too much fun either."
Knowledge planes aid another: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 if I'm allowed to aid someone else...nevermind!
Once the fighting begins, she'll once again draw upon her trusty wand and cast Bless (41 charges remaining) on the party, then move up a little.

@Sindelle, it's moot anyway because of your die roll, but for future reference I don't allow aid another on Knowledge checks in combat due to the time constraints. It would be a different thing if you were all, for example, working together in a library to sort through books.
Troi moves forward and suddenly it appears as though there are four of him them.
Sindelle brings forth the blessings of the gods upon the party.
The creature, if it is a creature, turns its head this way and that, its gears whirring and whizzing, before a blast of flame leaps out from its crystal nodule and explodes amidst the party members!

Agate and Sindelle are both slow to react and take the full force of the fireball, while the others are able to avoid its worst effects. Unfortunately for the poor dwarven wizard, this is enough to knock her flat on her back. The other pathfinders can easily see that she is unconscious.
@Agate in general in PbP, I handle initiative in blocks, but this is an instance where your position ahead of Sindelle in the initiative could matter. Basically, you need to roll your stabilization check before her life link kicks in (or at least, I'll resolve it in that order, regardless of when people post).
@Sindelle, normally I resolve the effects of your life link at the start of your turn, but I'm going to hold off for now because if you heal all 4 of your linked comrades for 5 each you will fall unconscious. You can use an immediate action to end the link with as many of them as you wish. I'll resolve the effects of life link after you decide whether you wish to do this.
Pathfinders are up! The bold may act!
Also, don't forget that you have an Aid Token available that any of you can decide to use. It is a free action to use it (i.e. it represents another Pathfinder acting to help you all, so it doesn't use your own PC's actions).
Roni the Flame Alchemist |
Roni's Heat Adaptation gives him 8 Fire resistance, so he took 7 damage. That hurts less than the burn he usually inflicts on himself. >.>
Roni watches in horror as Agate is engulfed in flames while he seems to weather the blast nearly unscathed.
"The power of one man doesn't amount to much. "
He turns his attention back towards the creature, rage in his eyes as he cracks his knuckles.
"But, with whatever little strength I'm capable of... I'll do everything humanly possible to protect the people I love and care about," Roni continues, as he starts walkin, trying to catch Sindell's eyes and making a small gesture towards the nearly-dead-dwarf.
"-and in turn they'll protect the ones they love. "
Air around him starts to shimmer and crackle with heat and fire.
"It seems like the least we tiny humans can do for each other."
Extending his arm towards the thing as he halts, he presses his middle finger and thumb together. "So Come at me!"
Empowered Burning Extended Range blast: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14 -> natural 1, using lucky number

Damage: 4d6 + 9 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 3) + 9 = 20 x 1.5 = 30 dmg, ref DC 20 to avoid catching fire
"AND LEAVE MY SOLDIERS BE!"
Caster level check vs SR: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Edit: I would use the Aid token for Spellcasting synergy, +2 DC and +2 vs SR, but kineticst blast is an SLA, not a spell, so not sure if I can.
Mobile gathering for -1 burn, infusion specialist for -2 burn, took no burn for this.
Your boy, Troi |
I'd say a Burst of Healing aid might be good.
As Troi sizzles from the blast of fire, he hurries to close with the golem-blaster. Speech isn't bad!. Keep it busy: I'll try to close so it can't fire another one off again!
As he nears the creature, the aasimar looks at it close and calls out. Hey: four-arms! Look behind you!
Swift action to stare, then casting Oneiric Horror at it. Assuming it's normally immune to mind-affecting (given it seems to have sloughed off from a door and looks construct-y) it has a 50% chance to need to save, and if it does it needs a DC 18 Will save taken at a net -2 (-4 from the stare, +2 from the psychic inception partial resistance).
Either way, it does have -3 on attacks for the moment, and if someone else hits it Troi will try to trigger Painful Stare for 4 more damage each time (up to twice, each has 50% chance to work)
Roni the Flame Alchemist |
Eh, depends a bit on what Sindelle does. If she channels energy, it's probably enough to heal everyone fully except for Agate and herself (10,5 dmg + 6 for seductive channeling). Aid token for healing would thus be wasted on everybody except herself and Agate. If she takes even just 1 life link and heals for avarage damage (counting in her seductive channel and fey foundling) she'll still in danger of dropping down if we get another fireball like that. Using the aid would ensure that she doesn't fall with another fireball, and it would probably heal her fully or nearly fully depending on the amount of life-links and healing rolls, obviously.
On the other hand, Agate is at... What, -7? With avarage rolls for channel and aid, she's still in danger of outright dying if we get another 9d6 fireball, so the aid token doesn't really make a difference there.
All in all, the main benefit here would go to Sindelle, and she's keeping the rest of the group alive (I hope) so I'd leave the decision to her. Personally, I believe a good offense is the best defense, you can rarely outheal the amount of damage a monster does.
Loxx |
Loxx advances, casting shillelagh on his staff while Fetch moves behind a pillar.
Sindelle Lifewater |
I understand on the knowledge, GM. Also if we get hit with another area of effect spell that allows a save she;ll use her dark archive enduring scholar boon to get +2 on that saving throw.
After taking that devastating fireball, she is forced to cut her life link to everyone except Agate in order to keep herself from collapsing!
Agate heals 5 and stabilizes and Sindelle takes 5 at 36 damage now
Words alternating between celestial and abyssal, Sindelle tries to focus as much of Callistria's grace into her burst of channeled healing!
Like someone already pointed out, once a day you can take advantage of Sindelle's Seductive Channel feat for an extra 6 hp healed. This might be a good time for Agate to take it! :)
Channel positive energy: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 4) = 7
excluding any non-pathfinders, but not excluding Thursimund this time, his fey-hate be damned! <3
well that sucked...sorry all :(
GM am I allowed to make the call to use the burst of healing for an additional 3d6 for everyone? If so please yes!
Sindelle heals an extra +6 from Fey Foundling so she's now at 23 damge taken then moves up behind Agata while using her spring-loaded wrist sheath to draw her wand of cure moderate wounds into her free hand.

The unconscious Agate slips a bit closer to death.
@Roni, your blast is targeting touch AC, yes? Roni's blast of flame manages to reach the construct this time... Reflex DC 20: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30 ... but it does not catch on fire. @Roni, nope sorry but you can't use the Aid Token for an SLA.
Troi gives the construct the stink eye and then attempts to bedazzle its ?mind? with visions from its ?nightmares? Troi Caster level check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13 However, the spell barely leaves Troi's mind before it dissipates harmlessly.
Loxx moves forward waving a massive shillelagh threateningly, while telling Fetch to take cover.
Sindelle cuts her supernatural link to all of her friends except Agate. However, the magical healing that she extends to Agate is enough to stabilize her. She remains unconscious but no longer dying. Then Sindelle calls upon her divine energies to heal the rest of the group as well. Note that Troi is out of range. Agate's eyes flutter open as she finds herself once again among the conscious. @Agate, note that you are prone and anything you had in hand previously is dropped at your feet. @Sindelle, note that cutting your life link used your immediate action before your turn, which means that you do not have a swift action available on your turn, so you were not able to retrieve the wand from the sheath.
Just then, another Pathfinder sees the trouble the group is having and adds some additional healing power. Using Aid Token for Burst of Healing To simplify things, and keep the aid tokens moving, I'll resolve it as soon as a PC states that they are using it.
Burst of Healing: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1) = 8
Alaric and Thurismund are up!
Alaric ir'Ganak |
Reflex (Boots): 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 5 - 4 = 21
Reflex (Cloak): 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 5 - 4 = 10
Alaric, still dazed by the recent events, pats down his beloved jewelry. Only to realize it's fine! He smiles, as an old grandmother would as he runs his fingers on the links of gold, silver and platinum. He then stops and sniffs, before turning around to note his acid-charred cape. Thurismund chuckles. "You foolish weakling. Your cloak is destroyed."
It is on that thought that Alaric notices the fireball roaring in his direction.
Reflex vs Fireball: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Not one to let old failings (especially if they do not affect his precious Iobarian jewelry) distract him, Alaric leaps out of the way.
Give me that sweet sweet, non-jewelry breaking fire damage. Alaric rubs it all over his body.
Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4
Narrowing his gaze, he commands, as one would direct a waiter at a party. "Thurismund. Destroy it."
He then rushes up to Agate, pulling out a wand. "You helped me. I help you. You tell us what is, yes?"
Wand of Cure Light vs Agate: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Thurismund Ir'Ganak |
Thurismund might be a little angry at the channeling the fey sympathizer subjected him to. But if there is anything he hates as equally as fey, it is fire.
The memory of the scent of burning flesh courses through the Phantom as he rushes the being. "JUST YOU WAIT THERE MAGGOT! THEY'LL BE USING CAVE-DIVING GEAR TO EXPLORE YOUR REMAINS WHEN I'M DONE WITH YOU!"
The gentlest of double moves.

Earlier, while fighting the Black Puddings... When the gooey black pudding nestled Alaric in its embrace it had the unfortunate affect of destroying his cloak of resistance, though his boots of the cat fortunately survived. As already mentioned, the rest of his clothes also disintegrated, but fortunately Roni provided another set of garb before the angry Kellid had a chance to get, um, too cold.
@Alaric, I already rolled your save vs the Fireball earlier - you passed (on the nose) with a 14. The fact that you currently show no damage is because the half dmg you took from the fireball has already been healed. @All, please note that this approach of me rolling saves for you does not preclude you from using rerolls, immediate actions, etc. It's just a convenience to reflect the quirks of the PbP medium.
Alaric has no idea what this construct is, but he sends his faithful phantom to destroy it. Then he moves over and offers some healing to Agate, who is now looking much more healthy than before.
Thurismund angrily moves forward.
The construct steps forward slightly, whirrs and twirls as it selects its next targets, before settling on the two closest foes, and then suddenly twin blasts of fire come leaping forth.

Sindelle Lifewater |
Good catch on my action economy GM, thanks!
One tiny thing you missed on your tracker is that Sindelle heals an extra +2 per die rolled for magical healing so she would have been only at 9 damage when you had her at 15 and 14 now instead of 20. Thanks! :)
Sindelle takes a quick breath as the situation is a little less horrible then it was a few seconds ago. She gives Agate a smile and wink before drawing her cure moderate wounds wand from her spring loaded wrist sheath while advancing to get closer to Troi. Without deathwathc she can't tell exactly how wounded everyone is, just that several members of her team are hurting. One more time she'll extend her prayers to Callistria to channel healing to every ally she can reach! (excluding enemies but including Thursimund ;)
Channel positive energy: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 6) = 13
Yay better! Sindelle heals +6 on top of this and is now at 0 damage! :)
4/7 channels used so far
Your boy, Troi |
Ha! Missed! Troi yells as the ray hits the wrong 'him'.
...mostly! he adds as he notices Thurismund did not have an illusion around it.
Hurrying forwards, Troi reaches the firey attacker and strikes out with his swordcane.
Attack: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 11 + 2 + 1 = 26 for damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 plus Painful Stare: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 5) + 4 = 13
Painful stare damage above has 50% chance to affect it. Troi would also have triggered it a second time if Roni's blast above hit (another 50% chance for +4 damage to that one).
Sword cane is magic and adamantine
Roni the Flame Alchemist |
Ah, right, the 50% chance.
High is good, obviously: 1d100 ⇒ 4 -> nope, no painful stare dmg for Roni, which leaves the total at 39 if it hits.
