Ha! I'm stoked that you're reading along with it and like it, too! It's funny how quickly you come to make judgement calls on the various players as they join in on a game like that.

Some ask questions that show they clearly haven't read the guide, and that annoys me. Some post using formatting that doesn't match everyone else's or the guides at all, and that annoys me. Some ask questions that are answered in the OP, and that annoys me even more.

... but I have to put all that aside (if I can) because they're new to PbP and the whole point is to help them out with that kind of stuff. It's really hard. On the very positive side, at least two of them have found the 'secret' question... unlike some (who take a year or more).

Funny you say all that -

I found myself annoyed at the players who asked questions that had already been answered.

Oh, another thought...

Some of them posting in the gameplay thread already have a pretty good knack at storytelling. I have been cracking up at several posts already. It's really good stuff. If you get more than 6 finally posting in the gameplay by the time your deadline rolls around, you might have a tough choice.

I also found it encouraging that there were several people who mentioned they would need to restrain themselves. I was in the same boat when we first started, though I had no concept of restraint :) Hence the 5-10 posts per day madness that was trial by machine :)

Seriously though - Good on you that you are doing this. I think you are going to win quite a few people over to both PFS and PbP - even if they don't make the proper game.

Yeah, the quality of posts has me quite encouraged. I'm thinking about running a second Confirmation group if I get 10+ quality recruits. I'm also thinking I need to be f*cking committed to an insane asylum for such thoughts.

Stop! Stop!!! Just slow down!!!!

You might need to be committed... Or your wife might stick a pencil in your ear.

:)

I was soooooo tempted to post when that guy was frustrated from getting Cyrus'd. That was cool that you mentioned our group (read: me) :)

I may need to restrict my reading of that thread down to once or twice a day, instead of incessantly following it like I do our own gameplay threads. Ha!

Don't know if you're reading the recruitment thread, Steve, but if you are, I think you know what I wanted to say to CorvusMask. His question could have been answered by properly reading the OP. Or any of the other replies to similar questions on the main recruitment thread.... OR my answer to a previous question of his on the recruitment thread!

I don't care if he finds the secret question. He's gotta do something f*cking amazing on the gameplay thread to get recruited.

Yes, I have been reading. I facepalmed that one.

Edit: Now that I have time to post more... seriously, did he just see that it was a recruitment and then scroll to the bottom and ask random questions?

I have wondered if I shouldn't throw my hat into the "guide" ring and write a guide to being a better PbP gamer - It would focus on interaction, both in character and out of character. It would be modeled primarily from this group, but a good chunk would be lessons I have learned.

One of which is to READ FOR CRIPES SAKE!!! I know I have been guilty of failing to read, reading to fast and missing important details. One of the lessons I have learned though is that if you want to ask a question, take a moment to make sure it hasn't already been answered somewhere. Maybe it has, maybe it hasn't. But at the very least, if it has, you are smarter for it, and haven't asked someone else to give up their time researching/searching/answering something you had the power to do yourself.

Bored? Well, have a read of MY F*CKING INSANE POST HERE and see if you can get the riddle!

Spoiler your answer to me here... and don't open any of the riddle spoilers for an appropriate amount of challenge to Golarion-ites like yourselves. Either it's obvious or far too obscure. I can't tell. I thought of the answer before I made up the riddle.

Male Level 1 Human Commoner

My guess...:
Starstone!

And awesome job, that is so cool!

Thanks mate and... try again! Maybe reveal a spoiler or two if you're stuck.

Chris L:

It's definitely a "she" not an "it". The starstone is involved somehow, though.

my answer:
Iomedae.... Thigh I wouldn't have gotten it had I not read about her extensively for Ishbaad.

And I'm a bit of a freak... I didn't see that post before I read the riddle. I read the riddle, then ate dinner, stewing on the answer. Then texted Damien as soon as I could...

Didn't we just talk about reading and following directions? Oi...

You had stew for dinner?

I know CorvusMask. He's a local player. Even without context I know what you are talking about.

Deussu wrote:

Ha! Good to know that it isn't just me... and that this litmus test I'm putting up for my new players isn't such a bad judge of character. :-)

Just read your EDIT (I'd previously read the original). I'd be happy to read over any guide you write. We need more of them out there! It was very rewarding for me to write my recruitment guide - and I even got to refer to it myself just recently.

I know, right? The case when someone writes something, you read it, and then they edit it later is excepted, though, yeah?

Oh and that riddle?

Spoiler:
"Hundred years she's been alone."
Oh come on. Too easy.

Iomedae. She was the herald of Aroden.

Deussu:
Easy if you know it! Like most such things. :-)

Spoiler:
For a moment I wondered if you had been riddling about Arazni, Aroden's previous herald, who was actually killed by Tar-Baphon.

Not at all. Everyone else is applying to new toons or saving for characters to ding 7. Ibid is the only applying it.

Heck yes, I'm applying it! Ibid was my favorite character until Aoife came along. But he's still a pretty good dude, and one that I can't wait to get up into higher levels :)

I had no idea on that one. I guess I probably should have known it. I did have to restrain myself from making a 'your mom' joke and putting it into a spoiler for you in response though :)

Seriously Lockwood, it is like we are brothers from another mother lately.

Your momma joke

Male Level 1 Human Commoner

Hahahahah! You're hilarious, so I'm taking that as a compliment and keeping it.

Regarding Damien's recruiting thread.

For the record I have only ever been accepted in a game that required recruiting. Once. Ever.

And it happened to be Damien. My letters of rejections are long and distinguished. I even lost out in a game where 6 people applied. And the GM took 5.

Try to give them a break, be patient, one of them might turn out to be the next Ophiuchus. Or Cyrus. Or Lort. Or they might stink. But you never know.

Just my 2 cents, and you can keep the change.

@ Steve you still owe me 67 cents for Glass River Rescue.

I'll give it to you at gen con .... :)

Question for you all, is Inner Sea Races going to be PFS legal? Mighty surprised at the price. $31.99 for a pdf seems, I don't know, excessive.

They use PFS to drive sales, so I'd be surprised if at least some of the content wasn't legal. Unfortunately, races seem to be somewhat of a special case (see the ARG). The only way to know for sure is the Additional Resources, which usually pretty promptly follows the release. Fingers crossed!

As for pricing, I'm completely befuddled regarding the "Inner Sea X" books and their prices for PDFs.

Wild guess here, but I would bet that all of the content pertaining to the currently legal races will be allowed.

Here is the wild guess part, they will change the list of extra legal races next pfs season in order to help boost more sales.

My guess is that the answer may be buried somewhere in the whopping 839 product discussion comments! Woah.

Oh fudge, just saw this. So Finarin has Flamboyant Arcana, and I see that it has been Errata'd

Errata wrote:
The magus can spend only points from his arcane pool (not panache points) to use these deeds and any other deeds he gains from the deed arcana. He can't use points from his arcane pool to use deeds from other classes or those gained by feats, nor can he regain points to his arcane pool as a swashbuckler would regain panache points.

replaces The magus can spend points from his arcane pool as panache points to use these deeds and any other deeds he gains from the deed arcana, but he cannot use points from his arcane pool to use deeds from other classes or those gained by feats, nor can he regain points to his arcane pool as a swashbuckler would regain panache points.

So if I can only use my Arcane Pool Point, and I have to use a Panache point, then I can't use it, and it is now worthless.

Did I read that correctly?

Ugh!

Sovereign Court

Male God Forum Paladin 20

Seems like they errata'd it to be even more confusing. Sure, that specification was to counter the use of a swashbuckler's panache points to use the deeds gained through magus arcana.

They should've have just changed the required point from panache to arcana, after which swashbucklers couldn't have make use of them.

This errata is sloppy. It makes me angry, sloppiness that is. Proof-read, yo.

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, some Inner Sea PDF's are very expensive, at least if you compare them to the rulebooks. I wonder what's the logic there..

On the other hand, at least Inner Sea Gods was an excellent book. Ended up getting the hardcover, even.

On similar topic: do you know if Dirty Tactics Toolbox just so new that Paizo hasn't had the time to put it into PFS Additional Resources? There's one feat in particular I'm really hoping would get legal.

The good news is, it seems you can generally rebuild in the case of conflicts and/or nerfs, according to John Compton's new friendlier policies:

http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2svgq?Regarding-The-Ultimate-Combat-Errata#1

Also, looks like there'll be an additional resources update soon:

I'll take that. Retrained to This one

I have dreams of hitting a spellcaster with my critted intensified, empowered shocking grasp and seeing him or her make a concentration check.

damage: 22d6 + 12 ⇒ (6, 5, 6, 3, 3, 1, 3, 1, 1, 6, 6, 6, 4, 6, 4, 2, 1, 4, 2, 3, 6, 6) + 12 = 97

Concentration check 15+2x spell level + 97

So, on the PDF prices, remember that what you are really seeing is that the core (hardcover) books are severely discounted in PDF form. The Golarion specific stuff (excepting ISWG) are at a more ... normal price.

The only reason I bought a bunch of the stuff, like ISG in PDF is that I don't want to carry the books. I should really just get a subscription and get both, but I don't actually want all of the books... and it would probably not get past the wife-veto

So, Slave Masters Mirror is starting. We've got four in right now (Damien, Steve, Jyri, John), but no Chris's. Are the two of you playing, or do we just start without you. Please let me know by tonight, I would like this game to be going ASAP.

I'll just commit for Miro, as well, based on no facts at all except that I want him to play :)

So... right out of left field, my Confirmation newbies pulled...

A LOCKWOOD!

I swear, I had not told them about it. They got it (I'm sure) from the maps section of my guide to play.

I really love those guys. I've even warmed up to B.A. "I can't code to save my life" Ironskull. He cheerily keeps trying and keeps plodding along. You gotta respect that.

Actually, still not CorvusMask. Ye gods. That dude reads none of my posts, even (especially?) those where I specifically address him. I know there are a lot of posts out there, but still....

*breathes deeply*

So, so, so f*cking impressed with my first timers. Going to be hard to let the group go - but I cannot GM 3 games ongoing.

Liberty's Edge

Well you do state there quite matter-of-factly: This is known as "a Lockwood"

Hilarious :D

Hahahahaha, let's hope it sticks and eventually others start using it :)

That can be my lasting contribution to pbp... not being able to move my own token :)

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

This is such a wonderful thing in the morning... It warms my heart :)

"...my lasting contribution..."

That line. Laughs. Many laughs.

As an homage, they should construct a large, unmovable structure in front of GenCon.

Inscription reads, Here resteth Lockwood, the piece that cannot be moved but by the hand of another.

Glad your PbPers are doing well Damien, I find myself in a mixed bag myself out there. Goes to show the power recruiting. Then again I might be overly judgmental on other peoples idea of fun. RPing a cheerleader in Pathfinder complete with pom poms and a trampoline is .... well to each their own.

totally laughing out loud.

Remember, kids, back in the day, when we had to "play by post". There was this guy... a legendary figure, it must be said, that could not move his virtual figure. That man was known only as Lockwood...

Male Level 1 Human Commoner

Time got away from me today doing... well, work... But I still had to post and say you guys had me laughing pretty hard about the Lockwood statue and such.

Everyone wants to be remembered and at least now I have a shot at leaving a legacy :)

As I noted in another game:

Paizo is running slower than yo momma tonight. I'm done with it. See all of you tomorrow! I won't have my usual early morning posts, but should be able to get on 10-11ish. Have a fun night.

Male Halfling Bard/1

Thanks for the commitment, Chris. I think I just made it before the bell, thanks to Jack's PM. After 5 days and 70+ hours at work, this conversion is just about in the books. Things should be getting a bit more normal now. Thanks for everyone's patience!

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

Hey guys - work has been nucking futs today... I will make time to post, I just don't know when... Sorry if I am holding anything up!
