Nagato the Eternal
Guess what idiot forgot to give her stupidly underequipped cohort a Ring of Freedom of Movement, basically knowledge of the spell, or the foresight to Paragon Surge it a head of battle?
Well, at least poor Mira is immune to acid.
Nagato the Eternal
Nagato's about ready to take the kiddie gloves off. Normally, she would just go for another Vital Strike, but... the thing has Mira. Even if she is "immortal" (unless this thing can snap her silver chain), the sorceress' current body is basically a carbon copy of the one resting miles away. She bleeds and feels pain just as she would if she were actually there. As such, Nagato might forget that Mira is currently under Lesser Astral Projection.
I shall hopefully be able to show you all why this is Nagato's Berserk Button.

Hmm, is a concentration check technically a skill check? I'm thinking that the only way I'd probably escape from the grapple is burning a Moment of Prescience in effect and casting Dimension Door.
Sir Orrin Neville-Smythe
When you make a concentration check, you roll d20 and add your caster level and the ability score modifier used to determine bonus spells of the same type.
It is either a Caster Level check (much like how penetrating SR is a caster level check), or an Ability check (much like how Initiative is a dex check and pulling rope apart by pulling on it (not using a weapon) or breaking down a door by smashing it out of its hinges (not sundering it) are both Str checks), or it's own unique thing (non-of-the-above).
ALSO: I'm not sure how much of a difference it will make, but anyone who is adjacent to another character on our side (like Nagato and Mira) have a +4 bonus to their CMD. This is due to my Tactician ability. It lets me grant everyone near me when I use it two teamwork feats that I have. One was coordinated charge, the other (as no one gave input as to which one they wanted) was coordinated defense (+2 to CMD, +4 if enemy is larger than both of you).
I'll try an be more clear with the bonuses I'm giving in the future.
ace: do you already have Moment of Prescience up? I don't recall you casting it, but I may have missed it. If so, you could use it to negate the hit entirely (+25 insight bonus to AC vs one attack should bring you up to AC 60 vs that one tentacle attack). If not... good luck? ^_^
Concentration while grappled is 10 + grappler's CMB + spell level. So it looks like in this case it would be 68 + spell level (aka: 72 for your standard Dimension Door)
Don't forget that with your Fiery Body you automatically take half damage from acid (so you're probably taking quarter damage with that save).
Anyways, by initiative it's Sir Orrin's turn! Time to do my thing. *starts working on post*
EDIT: to clarify the grapple condition regarding spells. Just being grappled does not bar you from casting, but it does require a concentration check. It is when you are "pinned" (the next step in the grapple chain) that you are limited to spells that have only verbal components (ones with somatic or material components simply fail/cannot be attempted). Think of "Grappled" as being simply grabbed by the shirt, scruff, etc. "Pinned" is the full on bear hug.
Sir Orrin Neville-Smythe
If the ground from about 5' below Golthanos to about 10' below Sir Orrin's final (current) position IS all difficult terrain, the Acrobatics check (which is technically Sir Orrin's Ride check, as it is 1 point lower than Carolinus' acrobatics to jump) is actually enough to clear that entire distance (if I counted it right).
...and just to keep it slightly more visible (rather than going back to find the post it was first posted in), here is a re-posting of the battle map link:
^_^
This just popped into my head (and it may be because it's 4am)... did we house rule Vital Strike? I thought it was a standard action to use and only doubled the damage dice (no modifiers) and is also not doubled on a crit.
Regardless, we've still done about 1824 damage to it (before DR). Assuming DR 15/epic, it's still an impressive 1419.
...Assuming, of course. Darn assumptions being dangerous!
aceDiamond
Thanks for reminding me, Orrin, I forgot Fiery Body's buff for acid resistance. I was only thinking of Blink's ability to cut area damage by half. Holy crap, that means I'm taking an eighth damage from the acid. That's pretty nuts.
And as for Moment of Prescience, I have it up, but it does say that caveat of "You must choose to use the moment of prescience before you make the roll it is to modify." Though now that I think about it, it's near impossible to do that for the AC bonus in a PBP game. I guess that if Tumbler would let me add it to my AC post case, I'd do that just to avoid becoming irrelevant, as there's no way I could cast ANY spell with a CMB so high. Even a cantrip.
So Tumbler, would you let me burn my prepared use of Moment of Prescience?
aceDiamond
Alright, cool. I'll make an IC post soon about the whole reaction to the event and an updated stat block with HP. Just gotta take care of a couple things around the house, first.
EDIT: I noticed I have Jake squint a lot in posts where he notices things. Maybe his Arachnid Goggle/Lens of Detection combo item need a stronger prescription.
Validk Ghujod
I've thought of a few over the ages.
Like teleport other. Hostile juxtaposition is great, but I don't want to move. Something that lets me port an opponent from where they are, to the middle of where we are.
Instead of fireball, coldball, electricball, acidball, soundball.
More of the fluff side, I have a cantrip that turns a holy symbol into the favored weapon and vice versa.
aceDiamond
Hmm, cool to think of. I might go about making some in the future. And of course, I'd run them by here first.
Also, how about custom items? I was thinking of a piece similar to the Otherworldly Kimono, but instead of getting bonuses based on mazing, it would be by killing evil extraplanar creatures or some such. Would have to be incredibly reworked, but I've been thinking of the concept of a "Hungry Bag of Demons" recently and may need to think up a way to implement it. Hmmmm...
aceDiamond
I was also curious why Katja kept attacking the Beast. Assuming it has similar regeneration to a Tarrasque, it should still be down for long enough. Plus, if we open a Gate to a dead magic demiplane, I could get Jake to push the thing in with a spell that would further cause damage (25d6 force damage, if I'm right).
Validk Ghujod
Validk has a better understanding of how magic works than i do.
A prismatic sphere is unaffected by an anti-magic field. Spells can't pass 'through' a PS.
What about plane shift? This spell isn't going through the sphere, just to another plane.
Therefore, I could:
Create greater demiplane, recast to start adding planar effects, save dead magic for last.
Cast prismatic sphere, which I can walk in and out of without harm.
Cast greater demiplane from a spell trigger item to add dead magic, which effects everything in the plane except the area inside the prismatic sphere.
Enter sphere, and plane shift.
aceDiamond
Sorry, GMV, guess I just missed where someone asked Katja for that. But it does remind me of a gif. I'll link it here, soon.
Also, Fnord, I have a particular idea about a dead magic plane. If that thing acts like Antimagic Field, would that mean that effects that resist that spell would function on that demiplane? Jake has a spell active called Spellbane, which can negate Antimagic Field in a 10' radius. If Spellbane could resist the Antimagic effect of a dead magic demiplane, it could allow for mages to enter and exit unhindered.
Validk Ghujod
That spell would work better if cast before the final casting of the greater demiplane deadmagic.
Couldn't cast it after the fact though.
The demiplane isn't perfect, but it's pretty close. Another wizard would need to know where the demiplane is, and since deadmagic makes it undetectable by divination effects...
Sir Orrin Neville-Smythe
If Katja and Nagato didn't continue to beat on the beast, Sir Orrin was going to. And if things take long enough, he probably will. (and may do so soon anyways)
The storm is still going, this thing is still alive and regenerating, and as such still dangerous, and in character I don't think any of us know what "Hit Points" are, so really who knows how long it will be until it gets up again. Besides, what if the last hit only brought it down to -1? We don't know. So yeah reiterating GMVs thoughts: better safe than sorry.
aceDiamond
Well, I have Jacob cast it every morning to protect against antimagic and dispelling effects. It says so on his sheet. Here's another link, in case you want to check out the details for yourself.
Also, GMV, forgot where the gif was. Here's a youtube video instead.
Sir Orrin Neville-Smythe
Oh hey! Random thought...
Do we have a preference or even care about text in different fantasy languages? For example, I use google translate to change my english into non-english languages based purely on what I feel may sound similar to a said fantasy language. Some of them use different alhpabets/symbols for their letters and words, so the question would be: do you prefer the different characters/symbols? Do you prefer the phonetic spellings? Would you prefer one simply post instead something like: speaking X-language "text in english"? Do you even care?
For example, Sir Orrin/Carolinus have spoken draconic a few times already. In another game it was suggested to use Traditional Chinese to represent Draconic speech. So the phrase "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women." could be shown as...
Language specific characters: "為了粉碎敵人的進攻,看到他們在你面前驅動,並聽取他們的女人哀歌。"
Phonetic: "Wèile fěnsuì dírén de jìngōng, kàn dào tāmen zài nǐ miànqián qūdòng, bìng tīngqǔ tāmen de nǚrén āigē."
Other examples would be Tamil for Celestial...
Characters: "உங்கள் எதிரிகள் நசுக்க, அவர்கள் உங்களுக்கு முன் உந்துதல் பார்க்க, தங்கள் பெண்கள் புலம்புதல் கேட்க."
Phonetic: "Uṅkaḷ etirikaḷ nacukka, avarkaḷ uṅkaḷukku muṉ untutal pārkka, taṅkaḷ peṇkaḷ pulamputal kēṭka."
etc.
aceDiamond
I like that idea. Makes sense from a roleplay scenario to have other languages in... other languages. There has to be a better way to put that.
Also, the point in the gameplay thread is good, too. If we can get Nagato to make that demiplane posthaste, that would be really useful. It might be wary using a dead magic plane, but Wish or Miracle can be used to transport anybody to any plane. Without a portal, you'd need someone outside the demiplane to Wish/Miracle you out, but it can be done. Food for thought.
Oh, Tumbler, are we full on out of combat? Because Jake's got a Ring of Regeneration and I'd like to know how to keep a good track on his HP total.
aceDiamond
I see. So we seem up the creek without a paddle, then. Unless somebody wants to use Binding on this thing via Wish or Miracle.
Though, we'd need a LOT of opals.
Wait, is just throwing it back into the sea like the Thassalonian Giants did suddenly off the table? I mean, it's crude, but it'd work.
Or if not the sea, a water based demiplane?
Nagato the Eternal
1 person marked this as a favorite.
The giants were only able to punt it into the ocean after a legendary bard of Azlanti or Thassilonian descent put it to sleep with a power magical music. It was also binded up with some magic chains.
I think Miracle and Wish both have a specific clause that let you safely plane travel without consequences as long as you burn that a really expensive diamond.
I say that we create a human sized gate from the dead magic world to Valdik's demiplane and disguise it well from both ends. Unless Golthanos can jam himself through it, this idea should be enough to keep him secure. It would be pretty cool if we could put an on/off switch from Valdik's end.
aceDiamond
New idea. Greater Demiplane says you can't enter or exit a dead magic plane without a portal. Why not make a portal that would be too small for the beast to exit through and then make the plane dead magic? Spawn of Rovagug are immune to polymorph abilities, so it's not like it can be reduced and slipped out. And we could enter and exit as we please. In theory, this aught to work out alright.
Also, that is an awesome description. But it does keep Binding as a possibility.
EDIT: Oops, was on my mobile when I first typed this. Didn't see CDL's post until I hit submit. But yeah, let's do this.
aceDiamond
Alright, so I guess with everybody attacking once, we're one turn in. Though I could have Jacob deliver a tactical Meteor Swarm if we wished to keep it down longer. But in the meantime, we just need Nagato to request her Miracle. I wonder what the consequences are of asking the spirit of Golarion to make a demiplane. Let's hope they're not the jealous type.
Also, I thought this would be cool to have in the background noise in Jacob's demiplane. Or he could make noises like that when he casts spells. I dunno, it seems like it might be interesting fluff is all.
Nagato the Eternal
Before I do that, we should lay out how Miracle works for this campaign. The text says that Nagato will be making a request, presumably to the spirit of Golarion but potentially Irori if necessary, for something to happen.
Does this request automatically happen as long as Ms. N is making one within the guidelines? Or does she ask for something to happen and then tumbler decides the results?
aceDiamond
The wording of the spell says that you request it, but I've usually played with people who said that if you're doing one of the things the sourcebook explicitly says these spells do, it can't be misinterpreted. For example, a wish to be better looking when used for a +1 bonus to CHA wouldn't change one's hair color to a natural blonde if you're casting the spell yourself.
Besides, a loyal servant to Golarion/Irori probably wouldn't get the shaft like that when they're asking for a specific spell to be replicated for a good purpose. I just feel like we should trust Tumbler on this one.
tumbler
On Miracle and Wish: If you are casting it as a spell and within the bounds of what the spell description says the spell can do, you can assume that works. if the miracle or wish is coming from a monster or NPC, then I would expect that it would be manipulated based on the alignment of the creature and its motivations.
Sorry for the delay. Four weeks a year I have high school students performing plays for a week, so that sucks up about 100 hours of my week.
It seemed like it wouldn't be an issue this week, I've been keeping up with posting ok, but next time I'll warn you guys.
