That is exactly what I meant.

I am thinking I will pump more money into it as I want more than one trait. I will figure out what traits I want and post once I have the money that is needed for it.

As far as I can tell, the traits don't cost more money, though. I could be mistaken, but as soon as the plane is permanent, the traits still stick around, no matter what they are.

Anyways, I think we're jumping a little ahead of things at the moment, as there's still a boss fight to finish before we entirely cement the details of our demiplanes.

I realize a fight is at hand. Still waiting for others to post though.

I feel like tumbler's just waiting on us all for buffs.

Katja doesn't have but a couple buffs and those are low level. The only thing she would do if anything is cast mage armor.

May want to cast Battlemind Link with any other dedicated casters. Just need to hear from everyone else and we'll be good to go.

Hey, tumbler. I am getting ready to write a short story for my next post, but I have one last question to ask before Nagato is truly finalized.

I want to take Improved Natural Attack (Bite) because she is a Vital Strike build, and the guidelines say to ask the DM if taking Monster Feats is alright. I can put it as one of my post-Level 20 feats to meet the requirements. At Level 23, Nagato could basically Wild Shape at will (as a swift action if I move her Quick Wild Shape earlier) into many different things with a natural bite attack.

That is fine.

Speaking of getting ready, has anyone heard from Gobo since he said he still had to get ready with Ralph? How should we deal with his absence in the game?

Also, I'd like to cast a buff with Validk when I write my pre-battle post. Exactly how far away do we think he is from the vanguard party?

Based on a quick profile-stalk, looks like gobo horde hasn't posted anything with any of his aliases since August 10th. I'm hoping it's related to GenCon, and he'll be back and posting soon. This is pure speculation though.

As for distance.... hmmm... based on how long ago Sir Orrin started off, casting spells, discussions, and such, assuming Validk and Nagato were not moving, probably around 1500 feet. This is assuming there have been no morphing of time to bring us closer to the edge of the storm (for example: "casting energy immunity once X distance away from the edge"). I'm not suggesting tracking every round on the way there, but the 1500' approximate distance does assume that every couple of posts was only one round (mostly based on when I posted an update on Sir Orrin's speed changes and what those exact speeds are).

(normal moves = 120' / round done a few times)
(running = 300' / round done a few times)
(enjoying the burst of speed from haste = 450' per round done once)

...give or take several thousand feet for morphic plot time. ^_^

Yeah, things do seem to be highly variable at this point of time. Ideally, tumbler could give us a number. What I'd like to do is cast Battlemind Link between Jacob and Validk, but they need to be within 95' of each other for it to work. Nothing says that the spell can't be cast when Validk and Nagato show up to the eye of the storm, but if they were close enough, it'd be useful to take care of immediately.

Either way, just curious. I don't want to have it seem like I'm dropping too many buffs on top of us or to cheese anything, just want to keep things from going south when we actually face the beast.

Well, my characters are about as finished as they will ever be. Feel free to look over them. I will be posting shortly. Expect it to be nice and long as Pirate and Fnord know. :)

Male Advanced Halfling Cavalier (beast rider) 20, Fighter (dragoon) 1, Ranger (skirmisher) 2, Inquisitor 1

Here is a first rough of Sir Orrin's addition to the Ghujod demiplane.

It should be noted that Sir Orrin prefers to live on Golarion, seeing the world, living in the world, sleeping out in the open with stars overheard an animals (peaceful and dangerous) in the distance (or even nearby). This demiplane home is more like a summer cabin to him. A haven in case he needs to get away, but not his actual home. It's also a good place to rest when he visits Validk and/or has dealings with the Odysseus foundation and such.

Area One
Area Two

Descriptions for each area:
SONS Field
Sir Orrin Neville-Smythe's Realm within Ghujod

Normal Gravity
Normal Time
Alterable Morphic
Mildly Positive Dominant
Mildly Good Aligned
Enhanced Magic:
Spells and spell-like abilities that use positive energy (including Conjuration: Healing spells) are enhanced (+2 caster level).
Impeded Magic: Spells and spell-like abilities with the Evil or Death descriptors, as well as those that use negative energy (including inflict spells) are impeded (DC20+SpLv to function at all).

SONS Field is a small, Self-Contained demiplane connected to Ghujod. For most of the plane, the sky is a mere 20' up, and is a swirling mass of silver and blue that shines brightly like daylight. The weather is constantly as if it were a vibrant morning in Spring, and the land itself is Bountiful. The land has a gentle, virtually unnoticeable curve to it, just enough for someone less than 5' tall to not be able to see themselves when looking beyond the looping edge (S7)... but those taller than 5' may be able to.

S1: Portal: A permanent Portal sits here in the form of two 8' tall stone slabs leaning against each other. The portal itself is underneath the archway created by these large stone slabs, shimmering with a swirling light of fuscia and white. Beside the portal is a large tree, nearly 15' tall. This portal leads to the main concourse of the Ghujod demiplane, the otherside being a simple doorway of the same shimmering light on the outside curve of a hallway there, with a plaque overhead the open doorway reading "SONS Field".

S2: Grassy Fields: This large field (bright green area) of wild grass also holds a number of wild flowers. The grass never grows more than 3 inches in height, and the random patches of flowers only an inch or two higher than that.

S3: Neville-Smythe Hill: On the left side is a round door some 5' in diameter. The inside of the Neville-Smythe Hill is described in greater detail below (starting at S10).

S4: Jungle: This whole area (dark green) is a thick tropical jungle. While some light from the sky above does manage to penetrate the canopy, this area is full of shadows. The canopy seems to start at about 12' in height here, and in fact the top edge of the SONS Field demiplane is only 15' up in this area. Climbing a tree to its canopy will simply bring you to a tangle of branches and leaves too thick to move through, yet the swirling silver-blue sky can still be seen beyond, and it's light still shines to the forest floor below. A fair number of wildlife live in this jungle, though there are no large predators.

S5: Field of Wheat: This is an immense wheat field. The stalks never grow past 2 feet in height, but are rarely ever shorter than 1 foot.

S6: Creek: This creek runs gently and continuously. Half of it travels through the grassy fields while the other half feeds the nearby jungle. When it splits into three small streams in the jungle (marked a), it is only 6 inches deep at it's deepest point. In contrast, when it runs through the grassy fields, it can get up to 18 inches deep, except for the small pool (marked b), where the flow slows and the depth increases to almost 2' deep.

S7: Infinite Loop: This marks the side borders of the SONS Field demiplane. There is nothing physical marking this spot, and one standing on the edge can continue seeing fields or forests beyond this point. What they are seeing is actually the other side of the demiplane, and when they step forwards, they ends up on the other side of the demiplane, and may thus continue to walk forwards forever, constantly looping back to the other side. Those taller than 5' in height may even be able to see the backs of their own heads!

S8: One Way Loop: This marks the top and bottom edge of the demiplane. As with the sides, one can see beyond the edge, and what they see is simply more jungle or fields (as is appropriate for the top and bottom). When one travels beyond this point, they end up at S9, facing the direction they were traveling (the arrow). If they continue to travel in this direction, they will continuously loop back on seem to go forever into an everlasting jungle or wheat field.

S9: Turn Back Point: This line marks the point one appears when traveling beyond the line marked S8. However, it does not bar travel back. If one travels opposite the direction shown by the arrow, they simply pass by without any effects. Even if one spends hours traveling in the direction of the arrows, turning around and passing this point will bring you back to the edge of the jungle/field as if you had just entered it.

~Neville-Smythe Hill~

S10: Foyer of Banners: This grand hall is accessed from the entrance to Neville-Smythe Hill at S3. A flight of stairs comes down from that entrance into the earth, descending 20 feet to this hall. The floor is polished marble, though this transitions to simple earth at each of the four main exits, which each slope gently up to other areas. These exits have rounded tops, and are 5' wide and 7.5 feet high at the apex of the arch. The ceiling of the foyer is domed, ranging from 8' up at the edges, and 15' up at the center. Numerous banners hang near the walls. Most prominent is a large on opposite the stairs of the Neville-Smythe Coat of Arms. To either side of it (on the other side of hall exits that flank the Neville-Smythe banner) are banners showing the Heraldry of Andoran, one for the nation itself, and the other for the Eagle Knights, specifically for the branch known as the Steel Falcons. The rest of the walls showcase banners from all over. Included among the people and nations represented are the Knights of Ozem from Lastwall, the Purple Dragon Knights of Cormyr, The Mendevian Crusaders, several tribes of Shoanti from Varisia, and more.

All the walls are lined with a deep royal purple curtain. Hidden behind these curtains on the walls directly behind the stairs are two small passages only 2.5 feet wide and 5' high.

S11: Gymnasium: This open area has a floor mostly covered in a very fine sand over compact earth. The walls are lined with racks of weapons, armor, and a variety of training equipment and combat dummies. The ceiling is 7.5' high.

S12: Hall of Trophies: This hall is mostly hardwood, giving it a rustic look. The walls are adorned with trophies of all sorts: Small sculptures of silver, gold, ivory, and other precious materials; hunting trophies of preserved animal parts; ornate weapons; pendants, and more. The ceiling is 7.5' high.

S13: Art Lounge: This hall matches the Hall of Trophies in style and make, but contains more workable space for arts and crafts. A number of musical instruments line the walls, allowing guests inclined to music to practice and perform should they desire. The ceiling is 7.5' high.

S14: Dinning Hall: This curved hall features a bar with stools along the inside curve (with a shelf filled with a wide variety of drinks, alcoholic and virgin), and a slow table with chairs along the outside curve. The far end holds a small kitchen of sorts, with an oven built into the wall.

S15: Personal Bed and Bath: The hidden halfling sized passageways leaving the Foyer of Banners goes for about 10' into the earth before reaching another set of purple curtains. These open up into a circular bedchamber. The center of this chamber is dominated by a large circular bed that appears to be mostly pillows and extravagance layers into a slightly sunken floor. The far wall is curtained as well, but the curtains seem to be separated by pillars of marble. The left and right curtains lead into closets of a sort, while the center curtain opens up to a lavish walk-in bath. The pool of water is about 18 inches deep, and is fed by a gentle and beautiful waterfall on the far wall. The ceiling of this whole area (bed and bath) is only 5' high.

If we ever end up gaining gold during our adventures and also ever gain the luxury of free time, I may commission Validk for expanded space, increasing the area of the Fields by widening it a bit before looping, widening and deepening the pool behind the hill into a small lake (aka pool for swimming and relaxing in good for everyone instead of only a single creature halfling sized, aka Sir Orrin), increasing the height of the area (ground to solid sky), so that larger creatures can fit more comfortably, and those who can jump high and/or fly can do so more freely as well... but that is for another time.

question: should I keep it as a gentle curve that loops infinitely (meaning really tall people could see the backs of their own heads, but people Sir Orrin sized will only see horizon)... or should I strengthen the natural curve, causing it to become more like King Kai's planet?

EDIT: GMV: Planar traits do not cost extra. Only extra space/area costs extra. The casting of Greater Create Demiplane to add/modify traits has an instantaneous duration, so is inherently permanent. The casting of Greater Create Demiplane to add actual area to increase the size of the demiplane has a duration of 1 day/level, so that must be made permanent with a Permanency spell, costing 22500gp. So yeah, modifying and adding "traits" do not cost anything but time (to cast the spell). This was my mistake earlier as I mistook the 500gp focus for a consumed material component, but it is not, so there is actually no extra cost.

HUZZAH!

...that actually reminds me of another question: should I make a second alias for Carolinus (useful for conversations involving only him)? Or keep him as a component of Sir Orrin's posts (making conversations between him and Sir Orrin internally smoother)?

I just made for Mira because she is basically an end game character in her own right. I did not need another ten tabs on Nagato's sheet. Moreover, she is probably more talkative than Carolinus. She already is more chatty than Nagato most of the time.

Twenty seven?! That is some major investment right there. Though I guess I should add some similar tabs for backstory reasons.

Also, good to hear, CDL! The anticipation is killing me. I can almost taste that boss battle.

Random tidbit of information:

According to the Beyond 20th Level section of the CRB, we as 25th level characters should have 68,700,000 exp. In order to gain a level, we'll need:

  • 26: 135,900,000
  • 27: 270,300,000
  • 28: 539,100,000
  • 29: 1,076,700,000
  • 30: 2,151,900,000

(Yes, level 30 is Two Billion, One Hundred and Fifty One Million, Nine Hundred Thousand even).

This is assuming that +CR templates and monster CR act one a 1 to 1 conversion to levels (which is what we did during character creation), keeping us all at the same exp level.

It seems unlikely that we'll gain another level, but I won't dismiss the possibility outright. Who knows what we gain exp for and for how much, and who knows how long this campaign will last? It may last a few months and a few thousand posts (I hope it's not that short lived), it may evolve into an extreme super campaign lasting 10+ years with hundreds of thousands of posts, seeing these characters through an untold number of adventures, world-wide power shifts, interplanar politics between powers, and numerous plot twists unimaginable (this may be realistically stretching it, but I have seen online campaigns on other sites go close to this long before without loosing steam)... who knows?!

...anyways, I just though I'd put the actual EXP values out there for anyone interested in knowing. ^_^

Oh! Any thoughts, critiques, or questions on Sir Orrin's little slice of demiplane? Anything that was not explained clearly or needs further clarification? Any details I should include or add?

That is a LOT of EXP. I'm starting to wonder if I should change a spell or two now before being stuck with the current loadout for a long, long time. But I'm hoping the game doesn't fizzle out and all. As long as we keep up the enthusiasm, I doubt it'll drop off that fast. At least I hope not.

Regarding the demiplane, P, what's with the homemade field of wheat? Just curious.

Male Advanced Halfling Cavalier (beast rider) 20, Fighter (dragoon) 1, Ranger (skirmisher) 2, Inquisitor 1

Going with the simple, nature loving, plains loving, semi-pastoral lifestyle loved by many stereotypical halflings. Few things are as pleasant and relaxing (especially for a halfling, imo) as being able to lay down in a field with open land all around and the sky above, and stalks of wheat flowing in a breeze in your peripheral or even in your direct field of vision above you as you lay in it. Not only to contrast their constant persecution on Golarion as Chelaxian slaves, but with Sir Orrin's own background being a noble of a distant Iobarian halfling village that embraces a similar lifestyle, but is at heart slightly more militaristic. For him, this is going back to his ancestors roots. Heck, his Coat of Arms bears the image of wheat on an open field right in the middle of it! The grain is a familial representation of who and what Sir Orrin is.

(of course, the demiplane is still far to claustrophobic for him to truly enjoy it. Another reason he still prefers to live on the actual world of Golarion, and why future expansion will mostly be to raise the sky up).

There is also Carolinus to consider. What free roaming dinosaur, a raptor no less, would not want to have large swaths of land to be able to run freely across, with a nearby jungle to hunt in. In the open on the Grassy plains, or with random moments of stealth in a field of tall wheat, bursting out of it into the open sky with his powerful leaps. He's kind of a reptilian mix between a tiger and a bird of prey. Stealth, the thrill of the hunt, and the ability to run freely across large open expanses (like a happy dog in a park or a soaring eagle in the sky), are essential for a healthy animal companion spirit. ^_^

...or even for a romantic romp with a halfling girl, rolling in the grass, playing hide-and-seek in the wheat, a picknick by the trickling streams at the edge of the forest...

The wheat also provides a basis for much of the food and drink found here should Sir Orrin entertain guests at this "summer home", being the bountiful source of both bread and ale, while exotic fruits (avocados, coconuts, etc) can come from the jungle.

That reminds me, I should put a grinding mill in there somewhere...

But most of all, as I first mentioned, it's the semi-pastoral lifestyle that truly appeals to Sir Orrin. Sure, he is a noble, and is used to the pomp and grandeur of courts, and does not shy away from ceremony or from glorious combat (Valor in combat is one of his schticks, actually), but deep down it's the simplicity of nature and the ability to live off of it with freedom of both space (no crowded cities) and mind (no threats, either physical or political) that truly appeal to him.

I like the way you think, Pirate. In the morning, I'll try putting something for a demiplane together. Hope I can get it half as good as what you laid out with that post.

Currently writing a big chunk of backstory where Nagato muses on how she met Mira, who - if it isn't obvious - was a real Razmiran Priestess.

The story I currently have is that Nagato took a trip to Razmiran to rescue some fellow followers of Irori. She was initially just going to sneak into the temple and teleport them away, but they had so many alarms everywhere that Nagato set one off just as she reached the dungeon. Not really in the mood to slaughter dozens, Nagato just opted to knock the guards out. One thing lead to another, and she ended up fighting the entire temple.

Well, old Razmir himself just happened to be in that part of the country and heard about this masked demon who was beating through his best followers like they were chumps.

To be fair, Razmir gave her the best fight she has had in many ages. However, she was just hard to hit (high AC and spell resistance) and impossible to keep down (high HP and many ways to get Regeneration). Nagato eventually got Razmir pinned and delivered a nasty Vital Strike as an Allosaurus. Even if she was shooting for non-lethal damage, she still nearly bit the guy in two.

Well, it turns out that one of Razmir's elite followers woke up just in time to see Nagato make the Living God bleed...

Mira eventually left Razmiran for two reasons. The first is simple: living a lie for two decades and then discovering the cold truth is very difficult on anyone. It was just ultimately too painful to deal with. The second is a bit more... complex. Mira needed to fill in that void. It is just highly difficult to shake off two decades of indoctrination and being trained since birth to adore one person like they are the meaning life itself. In her eyes, Nagato had proved that she was superior to Mira's namesake, so Mira just kind of latched onto the idea that Nagato was who she was really meant to follow.

Nagato largely accepted her as an apprentice because Mira was so broken when the sorceress finally tracked the Samsaran down. Something about Mira's pleas for guidance and clarity in wake of her great confusion just kind of... struck a cord with the masked monk. On a more selfish level, Nagato quickly began seeing that Mira's ability to use divine scrolls without expending them might prove useful as the Samsaran reached the end of her current life.

Mira has accepted that Nagato is not a deity, but she certainly believes that the druid is something much more than mortal. Her ability to belt out Miracles for starters...

Nagato is Lawful Neutral for two reasons. The first is that she did something really, utterly terrible in one of her past lives, and she has yet to shake off the karma from it. That event was more than ten thousand years ago. The second is that she believes in pragmatic balance first and foremost. If she went around toppling evil nation after evil nation, there is no guarantee that something mostly good like Andoran would rise from the ashes. Plus, because of what she did in the past, she does not trust herself to rule over a population. Mira aside, she largely avoids her small legion of followers who think she is the avatar of the planet.

Male Advanced Halfling Cavalier (beast rider) 20, Fighter (dragoon) 1, Ranger (skirmisher) 2, Inquisitor 1

heh, sweet. ^_^

Nuts. Forgot to ask if that sounds appropriate for this game.

I know epic characters are something else, but I just want to make sure that it isn't overbearing, even for the high tier of a game that largely treats the PCs as the Chosen Ones™.

Interesting stuff. I look forward to interacting with a character like Mira.

And I know what you mean, CDL. Even when I was trying to come up with history, I thought the wendigo thing was too much. It seems like epic level play does raise these sorts of issues, though. I guess maybe we should post what we think would be ideal and then see what tumbler says about it if we get concerned.

Male Advanced Halfling Cavalier (beast rider) 20, Fighter (dragoon) 1, Ranger (skirmisher) 2, Inquisitor 1

I say, there is no way we could get to this stage without having faced off and survived (or even won) against some of the more famous big bads of the world. However, we should also keep it conservative so as not to have already removed them all from the world. Having a large number of famous big bads still unchallenged by us in the world gives tumbler more potential to use them in this game to give us appropriate challenges to face, both directly and politically.

For example: Sir Orrin did fight at the worldwound, but he did not seal it. Sir Orrin stopped the reformation of an underground city of aberrations with the specific goal of invading the surface world, but did not take on the entirety of the underworld Orv. Sir Orrin prevented an alien race from resurrecting a cthulu-esque god (rumored sister of Rovogug) while simultaneously preventing the same alien race from destroying a number of Suns/Stars and sucking a large part of the multiverse into a singularity, but that was just one cult within one alien race, and not only do they still exist, but many other threats are still out there as well. Sir Orrin traveled to a different world entirely (Toril) and battled along side and against some of the epic characters there, then ended up in Hell/Baator and fought of legions of Devils, and any who came to rescue him there would have butted heads with not just devils, but potentially Geryon himself and/or at least a number of his highest lieutenants (named in my writeup of the trip to hell in a previous post)! Yet Hell itself is still there, and all the other Lords and Princes of Hell still plot, and Geryon may very well still be in the picture (even Prince and Hell killed on his home plane has hundreds of backups to ensure that he doesn't actually die... and that's assuming he was killed instead of circumvented by other means, which is a more likely solution) seeking revenge, or perhaps a new plot has taken his eye (his true reasons for his involvement with that part of my history had little to do with Sir Orrin himself... perhaps he actually achieved his true goal, and the "defeat" suffered by Sir Orrin and the few of us involved there was actually inconsequential to his real machinations). In his early career, he spent some time trying to free halfling slaves from Cheliax, yet the nation itself is still strong, and countless halflings are still bound to these devil worshipers against their will. All of this barely scratches the surface of what potential Golarion brings to the table.

You can be epic in your past deeds, greatly influencing and interacting with big NPCs of the world of Golarion, without completely changing the face of it. :D

EDIT: I based the above backstory on an actual real life game that took characters from level 1 to just past 20, so that amount and level of stuff PLUS a bit more to get from 20-ish to 25 is, in my opinion, well within what a potential background of this level of character might encompass. In my opinion (and experience) of course.

Good philosophy. Plus, I feel as though we should be able to keep each other in line to stop one another from going over the top when it comes to deeds/histories/backstories. We're all friends here, right?

Anyways, it's pretty late over on the east coast, so I'm going to hit the sack. I'll try to come up with a preliminary floor plan for a demiplane early tomorrow. May even try to add another feat of adventure while I'm at it. Also would like to post some more in the actual gameplay thread, too. Sorry if I seem like I'm being pushy about that, I just really want to get to the next part is all.

Night, guys.

Exactly! That is why I only have it so Nagato only beats Razmir but does not kill him, and only one person - powerful but ultimately nothing in the long run - found out he was a fraud and left without saying anything. Razmiran is still around, and Razmir still rules it. Razmir goes, and the civil war that follows will be a bloodbath. Nagato was well aware of that.

It would be a simple matter for Razmir to wake up first, clean off his robes with Prestidigitation, and then say that the blood all over the place belonged to that crazed masked thing, which he killed with relative ease. Any witnesses to the contrary are simply silenced. From there, Razmir spends some time researching this odd person who nearly toppled him by accident and begins plotting for a potential next time. However, his arthritis starts acting up, so he goes back to looking for the key to immortality.

The more things change, the more they say the same.

Finally got that thing posted!

*falls over*

Nagato is probably the "oldest" Samsaran on the planet. She first came into being on the day Emperor Xin officially founded Thassilon, and even to this day, she speaks Thassilonian more naturally than Samsaran in every life cycle (she even made Tongues permanent so she wouldn't have to even bother switching to Common). In some regards, Nagato finds this a mark of shame. 10,000+ years of reincarnating, and she has yet to break the cycle.

She has ventured through many lifetimes as great heroes and many more as simple nobodies. However, there was one life that sticks out the most. Unlike all the others, Nagato practically remembers every little detail about it due to the manner she both lived and died. Overall, that cycle was such a black mark on her soul that her alignment still suffers for it. Mira and another one of Nagato's followers know the rough story, but they only discuss it among just the two of them or with the Samsaran herself. In fact, the Masked Monk's only steadfast rule seems to be "Never discuss that scar in any way, shape, or form unless I give my approval."

Well, that was certainly worth the wait. Good stuff, CDL. I haven't even heard of Bestow Grace before that post, but now I think I need to obtain a few scrolls of it in any game I play a sorcerer.

I think we need tumbler around in order to tell us how close and far everyone is from each other. I'm not sure about exactly how fast everyone is moving, myself, but it seems as though Sir Orrin and Carolinus have a way of moving upwards of 300' per round. Besides, doesn't Validk and his embodied spellbook need to get over to the fray? No reason not to have Mira TP them over if that would work.

Anyways, I'll be back shortly to post up Jake's final buffs and then dig into his story and demiplane base soon.

Male Advanced Halfling Cavalier (beast rider) 20, Fighter (dragoon) 1, Ranger (skirmisher) 2, Inquisitor 1

Gooooood morning!

I just wrote a good 5 paragraphs detailing Sir Orrin/Carolinus' speed over time, how long it's been since he's left, and a comparison of that with your speed and how long it would take to catch up. It was 5 paragraphs long because there was so much going on and so many variables, that it simply became not worth it at this point in time, especially as we're not actually tracking rounds or anything like that. So I deleted it and now type this...

How about we just say that we arrive a few hundred feet from the edge of the super-storm at the same time?

fyi: after you cast your buffs, I calculated Sir Orrin and co to be about 2000 feet ahead. And to clarify, Carolinus did not receive Form of the Dragon (yet?). He is still his normal, natural self. His normal natural movement is this fast. He also has the run feet, and uses it. He also has endurance and a high con score. His recent exclamation about magic and running ahead was due to Jacob casting Haste. So now his speed is 90, 180 on a hustle, and 450 when he runs. With my plan to alternate run actions with hustles (and he has to con to make it to the edge of the storm doing this without tiring), if you only hustle, you will be 3000' behind when we get there. If, however, you do not hustle, but instead perform a flying run action (at x4 speed), you will catch up after exactly 1 minute / 10 rounds, placing us as a group about 6000 feet away from the edge of the super-storm. Though that still leaves 14 rounds of Jacob's haste left, during which time Carolinus will pull ahead again unless you either keep running (at least once every four rounds for the next 16 rounds) or boost yourself with haste at this point as well.

(hurray for excel spreadsheets for easily calculating this)

Actually, if you are hasted and hustling, you're moving at 300'/round. Carolinus while hasted and alternating rounds of running and hustling is averaging 315'/round.

Another fyi: Jacob's Haste (assuming caster level 25) will run out exactly 7 round before we get to the edge of the storm.

Tumbler has indicated that something may happen once we get to 300' from the edge of the storm, and given the above cluster of speed comparisons, we may as well just fastforward to use getting to the 500' mark at the same time and moving up from there.

In my opinion at least.

Seems like saying we arrive that distance away at the same time really makes things easiest, I think. If that's alright with Tumbler, of course. Also, P, Jake's got a couple items that increase his CL, so that Haste should be running out exactly 4 rounds before we hit the storm edge. Most the other buffs I'm willing to give have a duration of 1 min./level, meaning that Carol will be a dragon and Jake will be on fire and shielded for roughly 25 minutes after the fact.

Seems like Tumbler's been relatively quiet for a bit, though. Might have to do with the fact that school's coming up for some people soon. Or that we've been mostly theorycrafting for the last day or two. But still, Tumbler, if you're reading this, we love you and want you to come home :P

He also mentioned that he'll leave us to our buffs and interactions, and to let him know once we get to about 300' form the edge of the storm.

*shrugs*

That also works, heheh.

Female Human Sorcerer (Razmiran Priestess) 17

I suppose I will just teleport us over then. It would take two or three Dimension Doors to catch up, and by all accounts, we would just lose you guys again.

Well, catching up once and yelling something at Sir Orrin along the lines of "darn it slow down man! We're ready and can charge together!" or something will probably convince him to stop with the partial run actions.

Though there is also weighing time vs spells. At Carolinus' current speed, it will take about 5.5 minutes to get to the edge of the storm from where he currently is. Only 1 minute for Nagato to catch up via flying run actions, and she has enough con to do so for another minute without risking getting tired, and she only needs to do it for half that in order to keep up.

Or 2-3 DDoors and a Teleport (3 to 4 more spells cast) to get there in half a minute... though would that be a teleport to the edge of the storm, or a teleport into the unknown and potentially violent middle of the storm where the beast supposedly is?

Alright, I seem to be ready with all possible buffs. If anyone else needs any magical assistance, be sure to let me know.

I think I'm going to see if my spell resistance is enough to ward off the more damaging aspects of the storm.

I can also teleport in front of the storm, and if I go high enough, and can see where I am 'porting to, the miss chance should be pretty low.

Of course, I can pull a few shenanigans to be a huge creature, but I'd rather avoid that extreme.

I'm busy turning my sheet into a document with bookmarks and embedded links throughout.

So I guess I can't write in to my background that I made Tarrasque my puppy?

Tarrasque puppy? Now I've seen everything. Everyone knows you can't train them to go on the newspaper.

So, about more backstory, I guess.
___________________________________________________________________________

The Radigan family wasn't terribly well to do in Absalom when Jacob was a child. The family shop was full of trinkets and general woodworking instead of any magical items, and barely making ends meet on the money coming in. Obviously, such a place seems like a tough setting to raise six kids, but if there was anything one could say about the Radigan family, it was that they were hopeful.

Furthermore, as far as anyone knew, the Radigans had no known mages on any branch of their family tree. This caused quite the shock when a young Jacob discovered his power of cantrips and low level magic without any kind of training. He had heard that sorcerers who took control of the power mysteriously bestowed to them were able to find adventure, and through that gold and knowledge. In his hopes to send some money or items back home to help support the family business, as well as looking to the reason he gained arcane power that felt connected to the night sky, Jake boarded a ship off of the island of Kortos to seek adventure.

Throughout his early journeys, Jacob certainly was able to keep his family afloat. Forgotten tombs and rambling marauders often had enough of a treasure hoard to make sure his family could eat. Most of the answers to the questions he sought were found in universities and scholars, however. From what he had learned, the pull to the Dark Tapestry could have been for any number of reasons, such as the will of one of the denizens between the stars or just blind luck. It was hard to say, but as his skill as a sorcerer improved, so did his business acumen. On one day dedicated to clashing forces against an unknowable aberration or dreaded lich, it could be said that two days would be spent tending to business. Whether it be crafting magic items personally or calculating supply and demand amongst different regions, Jacob expanded the former hole-in-the-wall trinket shop into a franchise that spread throughout a good deal of the major cities of Golarion.

In the height of his business and power, he is certainly one to exaggerate and keep flashy. Out and about, he wears his name like a brand, keeping in the public eye not unlike a celebrity would. Though he still keeps the base of his operations home in Absalom, where the magic started in the first place, open to hear any call for new items or chances to test his abilities.

How does that sound so far, guys?

I like it! Seeing your story is sparking my imagination to do more for Katja's backstory.

I can tell this is going to be relatively scary. Even the picture of this thing has that look to it. Not that Jacob knows what it looks like yet.

Female Samsaran Monk (Qinggong MoMS) 2/Druid (Menhir Savant) 23/Hierophant-Champion 1

I'm just going to say that I catch up to you guys. Knowing that somebody is coming closer, Sir Orrin, Kat, and Jacob would probably slow down as they draw closer while Nagato hustles it over.

I think it is reasonable to say that you are together until someone decides to dash ahead.

I'm thinking for now we can use a clock and distance system. So if now you are all behind the creature, you are at 3:00 40,000 feet away. If someone wants to circle to the other side, they would be at 9:00. That sound good?

Makes sense to me. I'm merely curious if Sir Orrin's banners bonuses cause Jacob to make his save right now, though.

i suspect the do make the difference.

Alright, thanks. Doesn't change the content of the post specifically, but it changes the numerical value and things down the line.

Male Advanced Halfling Cavalier (beast rider) 20, Fighter (dragoon) 1, Ranger (skirmisher) 2, Inquisitor 1

Okay, so, uhm, wow. I either broke something, or there is a character limit for profiles and I have reached it. I was adding the details of the SONS Field (demiplane) into my profile, and start expanding on the specific details of Sir Orrin's backstory, and I can't save changes.

This isn't the usual glitch where if you take to long it sends you to the main page without updating. This is an actual crash with a warning message stating "something has gone wrong. The administrator has been contacted. If you continue to have issues, contact <webmaster email address>"

... so I've emailed them. If it turns out to be a character limit, I guess I WILL be making a second alias for Carolinus, and perhaps finding another method to detail Sir Orrin's backstory/history.

*blinks in disbelief*

In other news... my banner bonuses have already proved useful! YAY! :D

Male Advanced Halfling Cavalier (beast rider) 20, Fighter (dragoon) 1, Ranger (skirmisher) 2, Inquisitor 1

...and a friendly little reminder:

Those within 60' of Sir Orrin gain a +6 moral bonus to saves vs fear effects. Jacob and Katja seems to have already included this, but it looks like Nagato and Mira did not (and where's Validk!?). Nagato's save should actually be a 49, and Mira's should be a 35... D'oh! Still one off!

Also, if anyone does fail the save vs a fear effect, Sir Orrin can negate it completely (for 10 minutes) with a smile and a nod (more like an encouraging word and a thumbs up) as he can cast a single target Remove Fear 8 times a day.

He can also show his banner to grant everyone within 60' a second save against any spell or effect targeting them of their choice, but each of you can only gain this second saving throw once per day, so I'm saving this ability for more dire situations.

Actually, seeing as how Mira still failed (by 1 point! sadness!), I should go ahead and remove that.
