I'm essentially ready to start at any moment's notice. The only thing I might change with Sir Orrin is some collaborative back-stories in order to justify cooperative crafting at 75% as he himself does not have the Master-Craftsman feat or sufficient caster levels to take creation feats normally. However - even without it - he is ready to start the adventure at the drop of a hat.

HERALD: regarding the ruling on the Lord's Banner: As the Hallow spell and a number of the potential "tied to" spells are on the Inquisitor spell list but Sir Orrin himself is not yet high enough level to cast them except via scrolls, would it be possible to spend a bunch of money on scrolls and consume them to affix the 4th Hallow power to the banner? I'd make all the necessary rolls here (or in game when we start, if you prefer), and all failed attempts would permanently subtract from my available starting gold, of course. Or I could simply purchase X number of scrolls and keep trying until it works or I run out of scrolls (bringing all leftover scrolls into the game as regular gear).

EVERYONE: It seems the 4th effect of Hallow can only affect:

  • everything
  • creatures of the same alignment as Sir Orrin (Neutral Good)
  • creatures of the same faith as Sir Orrin (Chaldira Zuzaristan with DM approved overlap with Desna and/or other good aligned deities)
  • every creature with an alignment OTHER than my own (non-Neutral Good)
  • every creature not faithful to the same god(s) as Sir Orrin (so not Chaldira Zuzaristan and with DM approval Desna and/or other good aligned deities)

...so with that clarification, does anyone still (or even to begin with) care about what the 4th effect is and who it affects? Otherwise I'll just go for Freedom of Movement to creatures of similar faith.

~P

Wait, Would I be able to play a minotaur??? If so, that would be awesome!!!
K that I can work with :)

Though, I just looked over the Minotaur entry on d20pfsrd and it says they're all CE. So I'm not sure how it'll play with the rest of the group.

aceDiamond wrote:

I personally feel that the player should be able to choose their alignment regardless of what the race says. However, I also feel a good background should explain why they have other than their racial alignment.

As I've said it a hundred times before, I think I'm done with creating Jacob. Now I only need to go over his gear and spell selection a dozen or so more times before I figure out whether or not he's ready :P

But in all seriousness, I think I'm relatively good.

I was also curious if someone other than ourselves could implant Ioun stones. Just curious, is all.

Anyways, Gobo, GMV, how are your things coming along?

Still hanging around...

I do hope everyone can keep sharp on this ASAP. I'd really like to start soon.

On a technical note, I can drop another heft of change to grab a Page of Spell Knowledge for Spell Resistance. How's everybody's protection on that sort of thing? Should I go in on it, or are we all good?

Pirate Pirate Pirate

Yar!

I'm still here. I think I'll put the above question about imbuing the 4th boon of hallow in the FAQ DOC as well, so it's all in one place.

As for Spell Knowledge... Up to you. While Sir Orrin and Carolinus do not have spell resistance, Sir Orrin's saves are fairly decent. As long as we're not overwhelmed, Sir Orrin can essentially negate either a physical or magical attack on Carolinus once per round as an immediate action anyways (Carolinus is Sir Orrin's mount), and as long as Sir Orrin is able to, he can also grant any ally nearby a second save against any ongoing effect once per day as well.

For everyone else: since Herald ruled that characters can craft for other characters but at 75% instead of 50% (which is what crafting for yourself gets you), rather than simply assuming all my gear was crafted by you guys (a bit presumptuous in my opinion), I've been PMing aceDiamond/Jacob about our character's past interaction in order to work the teamwork/relationship/crafting into our back-stories, so that him crafting for me makes sense and I could have given him something in return for the services. As such I have also only had 3 of Sir Orrin's items crafted by him, and the rest paid for at full value. (it also makes sense to due to the time associated with crafting. one day per thousand gp value adds up!).

Does anyone else with the ability to craft magic wish to create interwoven back-stories via previous relations, services rendered for trade (Sir Orrin makes an excellent guard/defender/soldier/knight), the eschange of information (Sir Orrin has travels through the void and to other worlds), the goodness of your heart for the benefit of the team should we have gone on a quest together, or something like that? If not, that's fine.

(The selfish reason for me would be to get Carolinus' survivability up again. If I can save even 54,000gp, I can upgrade Carolinus' belt/collar from Giant Strength to Physical Might (str + con). Another 54k would mean Physical Perfection. One of my biggest worries now is Carolinus' survivability. Nothing sucks like having a large chunk of your class abilities removed in the first combat because one's mount could survive a standard encounter. Kinda like having a wizards spellbook destroyed before being able to finish memorizing spells for the day, except my class ability is a living creature who is intrinsically/inherently in the face of greater danger on a regular basis, so needs greater investment to protect).

(and yes, I am going to try and get everything I can realistically, legally, and fairly get. Even if there is barely any combat at all, Sir Orrin's whole shtick/purpose and character is about being in the middle of dangerous situations and carrying the day. He is the knight surrounded on all sides by hoards of demons, literally physically cutting a path through them to save the princess, then going back to do it all over again. Even if that never comes up in this game, this is what he is supposed to do and has become famous/epic level for doing, so of course I want to make sure he and his mount can actually do those things).

~P

Pirate, it is your banner. If you have the money, you still have the last call on what the effect is. Though if you need it that badly, I can cover the cost of a scroll and cast the effect during the first session we have.

Might I ask if you have a preliminary build for the new Sir Orrin?

Male Advanced Halfling Cavalier (beast rider) 20, Fighter (dragoon) 1, Ranger (skirmisher) 2, Inquisitor 1

I have the available funds for everything related to my Banner. Now it's more of a "can I use a scroll of a spell on my list that I can't cast yet, or do I have to personally cast the spell (with the option being ther being no 4th power until I get high enough level to cast it)."

The money issue now (which is more of a desire than an actual issue) is simply to buff up my mount: Carolinus (who you can see in the bottom most spoiler tag on my sheet). As I mentioned, I don't feel it would be fair or make much sense to have you do all the crafting, especially considering how long crafting can take.

THIS is the current / most up to date version of Sir Orrin (which is this profile)

EDIT: everyone should check out the spoiler tab titled: Boons to Allies/Banes to Enemies, as that contains the info that effects (potentially) everyone provided they are within a (variable dependent on the effect) radius of Sir Orrin.

EDIT AGAIN: the whole purpose behind asking is (I assume) the same reason you have been asking about spell selections. I want to be, and Sir Orrin is, a team player. Allies are important, and if I can do something that is of greater benefit to my allies, then I want to be able to do it. But given the silence on the one optional boon, I guess it's going to be Freedom of Movement based on Faith (provided it can be bestowed without Sir Orrin personally casting it from his daily spells instead of from a scroll) (note that it is no longer Dimensional Anchor, which would have hit some of you guys, which would not be cool).

I'm really liking Sir Orrin, P. Plus, I hope you don't mind, but I grabbed Fate's Favored after seeing it on you. I haven't seen too many of the faith traits, as I never play deeply religious characters or divine casters, but I really seem to think that that fits. I did a preliminary backstory generation on the d20pfsrd site and came up with Jacob being the first in his family to have sorcerous powers, so I feel that a boost of good fortune fits better than "ready to fight!" like Reactionary does. I don't mean to rip off or disrespect, I just honestly never heard of this trait before and love it.

Pirate Pirate Pirate

Yar!

That's cool, and no problem. Imitation is one of the highest forms of flattery, whether people realize it or not.

The trait itself actually comes from Ultimate Campaign, so it's fairly new, but also completely legal. :D

~P

Thank you very much. I should probably grab that book sooner or later. But the online PFSRD is just so easy for something free.

Though, I do have to ask, did you run the dinosaur mount by Herald? I haven't played a cavalier, so I wouldn't know about what can and cannot be ridden, but it seems like the viability of dinos in the campaign vary from DM to DM and he may want to have foreknowledge of this choice before we start.

Pirate Pirate Pirate

Yar!

That is why Sir Orrin is of the Beastrider Archetype. It specifically calls out the Deinonychus as a valid mount for small characters of level 7 or higher. :D

Also, having settled on us being on Golarion helps, as their are regions - particularly in the Mwangi Expanse in Garund - that do have dinosaurs.

~P

Oh, sweet, I was just about to look up the differences in that archetype. Thanks for saving me the trouble with that link! :D

On an unrelated note, when you mentioned the Mwangi Expanse it made me remember that I have a Tengu Drinking Jug full of Mwangi coffee. From a roleplay perspective, how would you think Sir Orrin, a cavalier steadfast in his ways, take to going on a coffee run with Jake?

Male Advanced Halfling Cavalier (beast rider) 20, Fighter (dragoon) 1, Ranger (skirmisher) 2, Inquisitor 1

"That sounds just grand mate! Jolly good! I may have my vows to my order, but I ain't no Paladin. Nothing wrong with finding a good drink. Maybe we'll find some exotic lasses along the way, no? I say, friend, let's go and get us some coffee!"

"TO ADVENTUR-er, I mean, TO COFFEE!!!"

Male Human Sorcerer 25, Archmage tier 1

"Hey, someone's enthusiastic today. But I'm not against a little detour if you're up for it. Could be fun. Just don't expect me to keep up with Carol, there."

fyi: I added one more question to the FAQ DOC. Basically about a real world armor and saddle modification that doesn't seem to exist in Pathfinder yet is implied that it does exist in the rules.

Fnord, how do you think Validk's personality would be? Maybe we can get some characterization in while we wait for Herald.

Just realized that I read the Page of Spell Knowledge wrong. So it looks like nobody's going to know Spell Resistance unless we get an Alchemist, Inquisitor (with more levels than Sir Orrin, sorry), a Cleric, or an Oracle. Seems like it lets you add spells on your class list to your spells known instead of from any spell. My bad. Caught it before we started though, so that's a thing.

Also, Vixen, how do you think your dragoness would act with everyone else? Does she like coffee, too? :P

So despite trying I just can't get behind crash again :( after giving up on him I just can't get back into him. As such I am going to create someone entirely new, so I can get excited about him again :)
So my question is what is everybody going and what classes are they going?
I don't want to double up on anybody or step on their toes so to speak :)

Sorry to hear Crash no longer inspires. I thought he was pretty cool.

Based on what everyone submitted for Herald about ... oh wow, 21 days ago now... and assuming everyone is maintaining those initial submissions, we have:

  • Monkeygod as Zashier: Human (possibly Advanced), Draconic Blooded Sorc 15/Dragon Disciple 10

  • fnord72 as Validk Ghujold: Half-Celestial Doppelganger Wizard

  • Pirate as Sir Orrin Neville-Smythe: Advanced Halfling Cavalier 20, Ranger 3, Inquisitor 1

  • Grand Moff Vixen as Katja: Ancient Silver Dragon (no class levels)

  • aceDiamond as Jacob Radigan: Human Sorcerer 25, Void-Touched Bloodline

  • Lord Manticore as Callant Arakh: Aasimar (angel bloodkin)/23rd lvl Oracle (seeker)

  • Eben TheQuiet as "TBD": lots of unknowns: "Predominantly Monk (17-20 levels), then with a splash of fighter and possibly paladin. Vudrani human will be the base race, with either an Advanced or Half-celestial template tacked on. I want him to be more than human (he is, after all, a fallen Movanic Deva), but the story has him getting his wings clipped, so I'm actually currently leaning back to an Advanced Template. Which template I end up going with will likely help determine the exact class make-up. He'll be primarily a melee combatant with (hopefully) great maneuverability and some unique abilities… no true spell-casting, though."

Cosmic Dream Lord and Westernwolf777 have both withdrawn interest/no longer in the pool of characters.

...and then you as no longer Crash.

In short, that's: 1 wizard, 2 sorcerers, 1 oracle, an actual dragon, a monk hybrid, a cavalier, and your unknown.

Hope that helps!

~P

Seems that we've certainly covered a lot of magical classes. Any ideas on what sounds good to you post-Crash, Gobo?

Also, P, I think a few of those people may have dropped out.

Well, if I can get past an alignment issue, I had the neat thought of going stonelord paladin 5and druid 20. Stonelord for access to the earth elemental pet and then I would stay as a permanant earth elemental:) we would be twin elder earth elementals :D I would be melee focused and be very strong (see a theme here :P)
Other then that I am currently looking through the PRCs and seeing what's there.

I see Vladik as being steadfast. AS a wizard he's used to research, which means he knows to take his time and get it right. He isn't into brash decisions. He prefers misdirection and solutions that don't require direct confrontation, though he isn't afraid to get into it when the situation warrants. He isn't above 'cheating' in these circumstances.

He will give people the benefit of the doubt, rather trusting for an old codger, but cross him and he'll carry a grudge against you and yours.

He'll humiliate someone that needs a bit of humbling. He won't hand out coin or food for free. But he will offer that coin and food for minor chores. Children can watch his horse, clean up trash, etc. parents can clean dishes, wash walls, run errands, and he'll pay them.

His world spanning business runs without profit as all the proceeds are poured into the communities through shelters, clinics, and schools.

He prefers to stay out of any limelight and will allow and encourage others to sit in the spotlight for him.

He demands the respect that his position and past and present exploits deserve. He has something of a dry sense of humor, enjoys pulling practical jokes, especially on politicians and bullies.

He's had a few relationships here and there, none long term, no offspring that he is aware of (he uses minor magic to make sure of that) he isn't above having more than one dalliance at a time, but makes no promises of any long term commitment.

A good sob story will often get his assistance. Though a fraudulent story bodes ill for the teller.

Is it just me, or does the bountiful trait in the demiplane make anybody think Validk would be more of a health nut? Or maybe I'm just reaching for a funny confrontation.

"Val, you're one of the smartest people I know, you read spellbooks as thick as my chest like they were nothing, you made a whole plane by that intellect of yours, for crying out loud. And yet when I ask you to pick up some donuts or chocolate when you're heading to the market, you suddenly forget about me. I'm hurt."

Also, Gobo, if you're looking at PrC's, I'd recommend Duelist and Swordlord, but they don't really have a great crossover with druid. Paladin, maybe, but not so much druid. Dissident of Dawn/Dawnflower Dissident also seems fun.

Sorry I haven't posted. This is my birthday week and I am out celebrating today. I will do some more work on Katja tomorrow morning.

No rush, we'd just like to go over stuff with you. Not every day that you get to play with a dragon PC, figured we'd go over characterization and the like. Maybe we should start posting backstories soon or have a few interactions for the heck of it.

Some interactions sounds like fun. I will put together how she would act in human form and when in dragon form.

That dawnflower dissident idea was real neat, made me think of a Rakshasa sorcerer/dissident/veilled illusionist. The ultimate illusionist/liar :)
Except we already got lots of casters... lots of them :) so I will look at something more martial ;)

Unfortunately, Dissident requires the ability to cast Daylight as a divine spell. Maybe with an Aasimar it could work, though, I'm not sure. But all in all, we do have quite a few casters. If I didn't have the itch to play another high level sorcerer, I would've played a martial class myself.

Though, Gobo, I do have a couple of ideas if you'd like to hear them. If you would be interested in the Spellslinger or Holy Gun archetypes, and if Herald allows firearms, you could get quite a few levels in gunslinger to cover some martial ability, while still having some access to casting in the future.

Male Human Sorcerer5/Dragon Disciple1/Dracomancer6

Just finished picking all of Zashier's normal allotment of spells.

Still have 20 more via favored class bonus. Not to mention any I get for epicness.

How exactly do you have 20 favored class bonuses with 10 levels in one class and 15 in another?

Also, can we see the spells you've got so far?

Male Human Sorcerer5/Dragon Disciple1/Dracomancer6

oh, ha! 15 then, brain is very sleepy.

spells known:
0 Arcane Mark, Detect Magic, Light, Mage Hand, Message, Prestidigitation, Read Magic, Spark
1 Burning Hands, Expeditious Retreat, Mage Armor(b), Magic Missile, Shield,
2 Bull's Strength, Eagle's Splendor, Fiery Shuriken, Scorching Ray, Fiery Shuriken,, Resist Energy(b)
3 Draconic Reservoir, Fireball, Fly(b), Haste, Suggestion
4 Charm Monster, Detonate, Dragon's Breath, Fear(b), Greater Invisibility
5 Fire Snake, Geyser, Hold Monster, Permanency, Spell Resistance(b)
6 Contagious Flame, Sirocco, Form of the Dragon I(b), Greater Dispel Magic
7 Delayed Blast Fireball, Firebrand, Form of the Dragon II(b), Greater Teleport
8 Form of the Dragon III (b), Greater Planar Binding, Incendiary Cloud, Wall of Lava
9 Dominate Monster, Fiery Body, Greater Create Demiplane, Wish(b)

Those with a (b) are my bonus bloodline spells.

Interesting selection. I'm curious to see what your bonus spells and the like shall provide.

Male Human Sorcerer5/Dragon Disciple1/Dracomancer6

Interesting how?

Pirate Pirate Pirate

Yar!

Possibly in the general fire theme you have going. Just a quick little thing I noticed: for 2nd level, you have Fiery Shuriken twice, and an extra comma. So that's at least one more 2nd level spell known for you right there (by swapping out the duplicate).

Second level has some fun fire spells, I gotta admit. Spontaneous Immolation and Burning Gaze are among my favorites.

~P

Male Human Sorcerer5/Dragon Disciple1/Dracomancer6

As a Gold dragon blooded Sorc, my fire spells deal an additional +1 dmg per die. Thus, it made sense to have at least one fire spell per level.

I obviously have more than that at several levels, so I might readjust them later on, but I will keep at least one each level.

Well l have another idea now, I am thinking of a dwarven paladin sacred shield (and possibly oath against fiends) 20, Stalwart defender 4/5. He would be quite durable and make everyone within 20 feet of me very durable. I am talking about everyone taking only half damage, gaining +9 shield bonus and regeneration 10, as well as making them all unkillable against the target of my smite (via regeneration).
I could still have a 1 level dip in there instead of the 5th stalwart level. Not sure what yet.
Thanks to acediamond for the inspiration! keep up the suggestions!

Sacred Shield is pretty nuts, Gobo. And I like it. Now I only fear what Herald can come up with to combat that for us.

In order to provide a more comprehensive look at Katja, I have uploaded a full character sheet to google drive located here.

Using the bbcode output from Hero Lab only shows so much. This will give a more complete listing of her capabilities. I will update this as I go along.

I have also been expanding on a background for her. Katja

Cool stuff, GMV. Are the two ability scores for some attributes corespondent to different forms?

Also, I'll post a more comprehensive background for Jacob when I get back home.

aceDiamond wrote:

As far as I know, the magic items would stay active in both forms. I could be wrong though. She uses them for her human form. Being in dragon form has it's own benefits really.

I believe that you keep the use of your stat boozing items, as well as any item that doesn't need to be specifically activated.

aceDiamond wrote:

That's what I meant. Sorry for not clarifying.

Okay, sounds good. The spell list seems pretty useful, too. Though I'd love to see her personality and how she interacts with everyone else.

Male Advanced Halfling Cavalier (beast rider) 20, Fighter (dragoon) 1, Ranger (skirmisher) 2, Inquisitor 1

hehehe

"stat boozing"

^_^

"Well now, while I do appreciate a good hard drink every now and then, I dare say that may be just a bit too much!"

Sir Orrin gives a jovial - yet almost devious - little smile and a light-hearted nudge of the elbow.

"Saturated like a dwarf." The little halfling shakes his head side to side with wide eyes, then lifts his head in exclamation. "Ha!"

aceDiamond wrote:

I added some additional info on Katja in her alias.

Sorry if it got obscured in the other details

Male Human Sorcerer 25, Archmage tier 1

"If I hadn't seen you down it, I wouldn't think that much booze would FIT in you, much less that you could hold that." The mage chuckled at his companion, slowly sipping his coffee.

"Quick, how many fingers am I holding up? You think you can walk in a straight line?"
