Yes... Thanks for making me hunt for a new map in the middle of a MTS.
My Barbarian is planning to get a ship just so he can make people call him Captain. He's probably going to try to get 2 ships for a more impressive title, but I'm not quite sure what that would be.

Go for Admiral!
Marcus Vulpares Fantailler |
So if I have the title of Admiral and Baron, how would I announce myself?
Admiral Baron, Baron Admiral, or something like Admiral Marcus Vulpares Fantailler, Baron of Ridonport

I'd go with the latter ("Admiral Marcus Vulpares Fantailler, Baron of Ridonport"). Otherwise, if only using one, one always goes by their highest title.
Marcus Vulpares Fantailler |
Doesn't which title you use also depend on context? I mean, I would expect a military subordinate to use your military rank. A lower ranking member of the noblility would probably use the noble title.
Probably... although this character just wants a laundry list of titles, and gives his full introduction, including titles and lineage, as often as possible.

In that case, I recommend dropping 1PP on a Herald (from Pathfinder Society Field Guide):
Herald (1 PP): Egos tend to run strong in the Pathfinder
Society, and some members want everyone to know when
they have arrived. You gain the service of a herald to
announce your presence and accomplishments at any
social gathering, be it a formal ball, theater performance,
or diplomatic negotiation.

I'm in the clear on this one, someone else on our team had the vanity.
That being said, I am looking at some more vanities for my characters where they fit.
My grandma paladin of Andoletta has gotten more roleplay out of having a farm than one might expect...
Marcus Vulpares Fantailler |
Yes... you do have a point. That was Captain Shins's ship.
Out of curiosity, if I were to get the private island vanity, what title would that bestow?
Anyhow, my barbarian has the chronicle sheets from Plunder and Peril and is burning all of his disrepute on the boat and a crew. He has no intention of actually putting more than a token rank in profession (sailor) since this is all about the title. My goal is to get the private island, finish getting his Baron of Ridonport checkboxes, and then go through every vanity I can find that would possibly merit a new title.
Current introduction: Marcus Vulpares Fantailler, son of Marcus Vultulus Fantailler, baronet of Ridonport, heir to the Fantailler family estate.
My goal is to make this as long as possible. When I inevitably get a herald, Marcus will probably insist on introducing himself a second time anyway.

Thanks all! It is indeed sad to see Magabeus step down and I definitely have some big shoes to fill. I will do my best to not let this community down. :)
EbonFist |
It's not a title but I had a character buy the Inherited and Musical vanities so that his Wayfinder could help him sneak around and still have the light.
And I plan to buy him one that makes him a Pathfinder trainer (which he'll probably never use.)

Dunno if this is the right place to ask, but since everyone is discussing vanities... where are those detailed, or are they only in the PFS Field Guide?
I found this list of all the vanities that someone else put together.

Hi, Fromthedepths, and welcome!
When you create a Pathfinder Society character in the website, that character can be used as an alias to play under, which is what almost everyone does. I'm sure one of our wonderful GMs will help you find a seat when they start up something appropriate soon, and please let us know if you have any questions.

Welcome, FromtheDepth.
PFS regular (classic), gets you to build a PC from all legal materials to current date. There is a PDF document, that mentions what options are available.
Link to Additional resources.
Core PCs are made from CRB and its few allowed extras.
Link to Core page.

You can find all the available options under the Additional Resources page. Off the top of my head the only class that isn't allowed is the APG Summoner. PFS uses the Unchained Summoner now. Most everything else is available, with some options restricted.
chadius |
Here's a page that lists all of the legal resources for PFS. You can take a look through here to see if your class is not legal.
Out of the classes you can play, Summoners are not legal for play. You can play Unchained Summoners, though.
Sedoriku |
Anti-paladin. For certain 'no evil characters' reasons. After that the base class (EDIT:minus the summoner thanks Chadius, I'd forgotten about them) is always okay in classic, but some might have a qualification or some class choices might not be legal.

Archives of Nethys (recently made the PRD) is an excellent place to start a search for options as well. They do a good job marking if an option is PFS legal, has restrictions or substitutions, or not legal. However, they are humans (as far as we know) and the site is not 100% accurate. But, the site does an excellent job of listing which book each option can be found in - this makes cross-referencing the Additional Resources page much quicker.

As with many other features, some are and some are not. Archives of Nethys has a little Wayfinder icon that is denotes if it is (and is usually right). That is another thing you can check in the Additional Resources like how Hawthwile mentioned.
That specific archetype, Pistolero, is definitely legal though as I have one.

Nature Magic gives a Druid Orison 1/day. Arcane Talent is a bit more restrictive but gives a wizard/sorcerer cantrip 3/day.
Other than that, there are a ton of super restrictive racial spell related feats. What is this for? Usually a 1 lvl dip into a casting class ends up solving those kinds of needs.
philipjcormier |
My bard, Andy Applebottom, has a wand of Magic Missile, but has to use UMD to activate it (little hard to do at 3L).
I understand that a 1L dip into sorc/wiz would allow him to take the spell, but it will always be at 1L like the wand.
I was wondering if there was a feat/trait/magic item that would add a spell to the Bard's current spell list.
I didn't think so, since it would make the need for certain classes a bit obsolete.
supervillan |
There's a relatively inexpensive magic item that adds +10 to your umd check for a particular spell / wand. Can't recall the name off hand.
Edit: it's the wand key ring, costs 3000gp.
Pete H. |
Bard Magician Archetype would do it for you I believe.
Expanded Repertoire (Ex): At 2nd level and every four levels thereafter, a magician can add one spell to his spells known from the spell list of any arcane spellcasting class. The spell must be of a level he can cast. This ability replaces versatile performance.
SodiumTelluride |
Unsanctioned Knowledge lets you add spells to the paladin spell list. (It makes me laugh that you can use this feat to prepare protection from good, cast the spell, and promptly lose all your paladin abilities.)
As for your bard, Pete's suggestion is the easiest. Alternatively, a bard of any archetype can pick up a ring of spell knowledge and cast magic missile at full caster level, but it would be treated as a 2nd-level spell.
TriShadow |
It might be too late now, but the Arrowsong Minstrel archetype will also allow you add Magic Missile to your spell list (due to the fact it is an evocation spell).
GM Aerondor |
And the Magaambyan Arcanist lets a wizard add druid spells (of reasonably high level too) Doesn't help your bard though.
