I'm here; for some reason it didn't show that I had new posts, then suddenly 20 gameplay posts and 9 in Discussion to catch up to.

I will be going to work at Gen Con Aug 1-4 and DragonCon Aug 29 - Sep 2nd. Not sure how much time I'll have to post then.

Alright! I tried something new in this scene. If you disliked it or can think of a better way to handle mechanics like this, please let me know!

Basically, this monster has Suggestion. He uses it to lure you to the edge of the acid pool. So, I wanted you all to interact with the scene. That allowed me to see who got in range for the spell-like ability as well as get everyone's placement prior to the fight without tipping my hand too much. Those are all good things that I liked about it. The one bad thing is that it requires Retconning after the spell went off. For example: Davrin saw the trap door in the center of the map but got redirected by Suggestion. That left Lenny and Pippimi heading for the acid pool with him.

If you disagree with any of that, please let me know!

Also, to pre-clarify the scene. The acid is waist deep on the edge (5 foot) squares, and gets deeper from there. So you can stand in it if your character is on the edge, otherwise you will be submerged. In acid. You can swim, but you'll still be submerged. In acid.

The ledge on the south-east side of the pool is three feet tall. It gives Soft Cover to the Skreesire against most ranged attacks. You could climb or jump over/onto it, but I would require a DC 15 Acrobatics check to Balance on it successfully.

Currently the Skreesire is ten feet into the pool, with five feet of empty space between it and Davrin/Lenny.

Ahh, Shadowrun is/was my first RPG love in the 80s and 90s. Cyberpunk meets magic and dragons.

I'll always have a soft spot for it and still maintain 3rd edition was best. Though I stopped playing before 5th or 6th

I love the feel and concept of Shadowrun, but I've only ever played the recent PC games (Shadowrun: Hongkong primarily). Ever since that experience, I keep hoping that Starfinder will scratch the corp-raiding itch, but the system isn't *quite* right for it.

Yeah, starfinder is still very D&D and doesn't really catch the style or rules style. I was hoping it would scratch that itch myself as well.

Then again not everyone likes the lethality, at any level (though Shadowrun doesn't really have levels) that Shadowrun sometimes had. Back when we played it was pretty common to get wasted on a run, especially when everything inevitably goes to hell and we had to shoot our way out of some corporate black site, then escape into the Barrens while dodging the cops and gangers.

Good times.

Then again, in 2nd or 3rd edition my buddy made a troll that could literally kill a tank with one punch. Sadly, he wasn't so good against a swarm of rotodrones with miniguns

Yeah... The problem with breathing toxins is that everyone has environmental controls. Which... would stop most breathing effects. I think that's why most authors write their way around them.

Though.. your robotic bonus against mind-affecting effects was the difference about whether you passed or not!

Also, I'm going to ask you all to use your imaginations a bit more in this section. I am really trying to lean into this section's horror/creepy/unsettling vibe, but that's not my normal writing style. So, I encourage you guys to throw in any extra details or pieces of description that your imaginations provide! This is a creepy abandoned(?) base of an insane cult and it should feel that way! Ha.

Zoran doesn't care about looting but does usually stay close during breach situations to defend the others from an attack in the room.

Back to Shadowrun podcasts. The Arcology Podcast (I use I heart radio) has a long actual play campaign that is pretty good as well. Sometimes the audio is a bit hard to hear on some characters and a few annoy me, but on the whole it's pretty good. They definitely trend more toward the pink mohawk "kill everything" side of Shadowrun which makes me smile as that's the way we played it way back when.

Never been to a con, but I don't like crowds or lots of people in general.

Which is odd since I was perfectly fine in college at sporting events with 80,000 in the stadium and as many in parties all around the stadium (where I lived).

But these days? More than a few hundred and I get itchy. I blame living in rural bush Alaska for a few years.

Secret GM commentary:
You can make this fight a lot harder (which I did when I ran it :P) by having the Sniper not try to snipe at all. His operative cloaking field lets him hide in plain sight every time he takes a move action to sneak around. So I had him shoot and move in that order each round, avoiding the -20 sniping penalty to stealth checks (though not getting the +10 for staying still either).

FYI: I'm going to be out of town without access to a computer starting next Saturday (9/14) morning (US/Pacific time). I return the next day (9/15) in the early evening.

Given that I can post Friday evening before I leave and Sunday evening when I get back, I hope this will keep disruption to a minimum or non-existent.

I modified this fight. As written, it has two Level 1/2 Necrogliders. Seeing that it was going to be no challenge, I upgraded them to Level 1! Big, risky move there! But... turns out they should have been Level 2 or 3! Ha!

Yeah... the only reasoning I've been able to come up with is that the adventure path authors are told to only include one starship combat per book. So maybe the author compromised with a diplomacy-able fight and an easy fight?

A player in the Androids and Aliens podcast came up with a paranoid theory during this fight that was so much better than as written. They imagined that these two were only scouts for a much bigger and scarier mother ship. Alas, the mother ship never appeared.
