Sara Roswell |
I'd like to submit this character, an Aberrant Steelblood Bloodrager, for consideration.
There's probably a few errors in there, it's late here and I've caught myself writing nonsense a few times. I'll fix anything I can find tomorrow.
I see Sara functioning well as a frontline tank, slicing charging foes apart with her glaive then smashing them with her armour spikes when they get close.
Marko Grey |
This is Guru of the sands submission.
I present Marko Grey. I have a few touches left to finish in the gear but the backstory is there. I just hope I didn't get carried away.
I see Marko as a melee skirmisher and a guide. Likely some interesting ties to others as well but those can wait until selections are made.
Good luck to everyone! :)

Quite a lineup! Oh and I just thought I would mention that I have a fair number of skills, so while I'm not as deadly as a fighter I will have more out of combat uses.
Also, I forgot to ask this question. Are eastern weapons ok? I took proficiency with the tetsubo, which is basically a baseball bat with metal studs. The imagery of Zed smashing undead with a glorified baseball bat seems awesome to me!
Tetsubo is fine, as you say it's essentially like a studded greatclub.
Sarabian |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
It's not just the combat itself though Sarabian. Say that zombie you put down had only recently been raised, and the family are still expecting their husband/dad to come home. But wait, you just caved his head in?
What effect might that have on the brave warrior who, quite rightly, was battling in an 'it or me' situation. I'm quite keen to look at the horror aspect of this AP not just in the messed up monsters you fight, but the implications of your actions, the attitudes and suspicions the people of Ustalav harbor, the really effed up sh*t that can happen to people in a land where undead are rife. And so on.
All I'm saying is, don't expect the horror to be limited to "man, that ghost was scary!" hence when I say mature themes.
I'm well familiar (and quite a fan) of the psychological horror aspect of games as well. My partner loves to run Changeling: the Lost, and very much gets her kicks on helping her players dig their own graves and watching us squirm as we do so.
I also like how it really gets you to take a look at your alignment, in the Pathfinder setting. If you're good, how do you maintain that in an encounter where evil (or sometimes, Evil) doesn't leave you any good outcomes?
GM-JZ |
Hello, GM. Considering the unique relationship with Petros Lorrimor that I put in my background, I was wondering if you would allow the custom campaign trait that I put in my profile.
If not, that's okay -- I'll do Teacher's Pet instead. Just let me know which I should build my sheet with.
That custome trait seems fine to me Lillith.
Fiendish Zen |
Think the roster is full enough of rogues, unchained and normal, so changed gear and have gone with an urban ranger. Pick for race was a skinwalker, risky as non-core yes, but I feel thematic for Carrion Crown. She's a front-line melee combatant with an urban skill set.
Natalya Artemisa
Background
Natalya grew up in the care of one of the local Sczarni crimelords, just another otherwise homeless orphan learning to pick pockets and act as lookout for her gang, her life was laid out before her as an ever increasing escalation of criminal activity until she was either caught or killed.
In her twelfth year, she was tasked with breaking in to an expensive looking mausoleum, her first job in charge of a team. They distracted the guards long enough for her to get inside, but as she was liberating the trinkets within, she was attacked by the reanimated corpse of the tomb's occupant. Abandoned by her supposed family even as she cried for their help, she was barely able to escape the filthy talons of the creature. As luck would have it, as her life was bleeding through the fingers she clutched desperately to the wounds in her chest, she collapsed in the doorway of one Professor Lorrimor.
Without question or query, judgement or subtext, he sheltered her and tended to her wounds whilst she healed. Each day he would sit with her and just read, treaties on history, anatomy books, great atlases of places and people far away from Ustalav. He gradually earned her trust, and she finally opened up to him with a torrent of questions, mostly about herself. She had always known she was different to the others she knew, but until the professor started to teach her about the creatures of Golarion, she hadn't understood just how different. When she had fully recovered, showing no desire to return to her former 'family', as something of an experiment the Professor introduced her to a friend in the city watch.
For the next ten years and more, Natalya has walked the line between criminal and law, using her skills and underworld knowledge to make a living both as a cat burglar and an informant to the watch, as a means to rein in those who would try to hide in her shadows, those who she deemed dangerous or truly evil. Over the years, whilst the professor has had cause to hire her both officially and unofficially to pursue his interests, Natalya's greatest secret has been her monthly dinners with him, where she would disguise herself and go out to meet him at an upper-class inn or eatery. When she heard news of his death she was devastated, yet despite his guiding presence now being absent, she wants nothing more than to continue serving the light from her home in the shadows.
Personality
Natalya is a survivor at heart, valuing life and freedom above all else, despising those who would deprive others of them. Although she has never had much respect for the law, she does try to do the right thing, usually working outside of the law when (in her opinion) it proves insufficient with regards to the greater good. She is protective over both her territory and the people in it, trying to make it a better place however she can. Whilst she has a strong sense of loyalty to those she calls friend, that position is hard to earn.
Appearance
Never a slim girl, Natalya has a well honed physique she keeps as hidden as possible. Her clothes are drab and dull colors, all the better to blend in with, and she shows as little skin as possible. Whilst she maintains this is to stop moonlight from shining off her pale flesh and making it harder to hide, it also minimises the chance someone will see the network of scars that cover her body, keepsake from the night in the mausoleum that changed the course of her life. Keeping her black hair short and tied back out of the way, she wears the barest trace of khol around her eyes and on her lips. Moving with confidence and no wasted effort, she seems at ease in any urban setting.

Change Shape (Su): A skinwalker can change shape into a bestial form as a standard action. In bestial form, a skinwalker gains a +2 racial bonus to Charisma. While in this form, a skinwalker also takes on an animalistic feature that provides a special effect. Each time a skinwalker assumes bestial form, she can choose to gain one of the following features: Bite attack that deals 1d6 points of damage, 2 claw attacks that each deal 1d4 points of damage, +10-foot racial bonus to base speed, See in darkness.
The racial ability score bonus and additional feature last as long as the skinwalker remains in that form, and a skinwalker can remain in bestial form for as long as she wants. While in bestial form, a skinwalker takes a –4 penalty on Charisma and Charisma-based checks when interacting with humanoids that lack the shapechanger subtype.
A skinwalker can return to her humanoid form as a swift action. To change forms and gain a different benefit, a skinwalker must first return to her humanoid form then use her shapechange ability again. A skinwalker can shapechange into bestial form a number of times per day equal to 3 + 1/2 her character level.
fanglord racial skill bonus: +2 perception and acrobatics
Favored enemy (undead): +2 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls, Bluff, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks. May make Knowledge skill checks untrained when attempting to identify these creatures.
Track: A ranger adds half her level (minimum 1) to Survival skill checks made to follow tracks
Wild empathy: (Diplomacy for animals) ranger rolls 1d20 and adds her ranger level and Charisma bonus to determine the wild empathy check result. The typical domestic animal has a starting attitude of indifferent, while wild animals are usually unfriendly. To use wild empathy, the ranger and the animal must be within 30 feet of one another under normal visibility conditions. Generally, influencing an animal in this way takes 1 minute, but, as with influencing people, it might take more or less time. The ranger can also use this ability to influence a magical beast with an Intelligence score of 1 or 2, but he takes a –4 penalty on the check.

Class Features
I can take on the aspect of an animal as a swift action. I must select one type of animal to emulate, gaining a bonus or special ability based on the type of animal emulated and my hunter level. I can use this ability for a number of minutes per day equal to her level. This duration does not need to be consecutive, but must be spent in 1-minute increments. I can emulate only one animal at a time.
I can also apply one of these aspects to my animal companion. There is no duration on the animal aspect applied to my animal companion. An aspect applied in this way does not count against my minutes of duration per day—it remains in effect until I change it. The companion's aspect can be the same aspect I have taken on or a different one. I can select or change the animal foci on both herself and my animal companion as part of the same swift action.
If My animal companion is dead, I can apply my companion's animal focus to myself. This is in addition to the normal one I can choose, and (as with a companion's focus) remains in effect until the I change it instead of counting against my minutes per day.
Bat: The creature gains darkvision to a range of 60 feet. At 8th level, the range increases by 30 feet. At 15th level, the creature also gains blindsense to a range of 10 feet.
Bear: The creature gains a +2 enhancement bonus to Constitution. This bonus increases to +4 at 8th level and +6 at 15th level.
Bull: The creature gains a +2 enhancement bonus to Strength. This bonus increases to +4 at 8th level and +6 at 15th level.
Falcon: The creature gains a +4 competence bonus on Perception checks. This bonus increases to +6 at 8th level and +8 at 15th level.
Frog: The creature gains a +4 competence bonus on Swim checks and on Acrobatics checks to jump. These bonuses increase to +6 at 8th level and +8 at 15th level.
Monkey: The creature gains a +4 competence bonus on Climb checks. This bonus increases to +6 at 8th level and +8 at 15th level.
Mouse: The creature gains evasion, as the rogue class feature. At 12th level, this increases to improved evasion, as the rogue advanced talent.
Owl: The creature gains a +4 competence bonus on Stealth checks. This bonus increases to +6 at 8th level and +8 at 15th level.
Snake: The creature gains a +2 bonus on attack rolls when making attacks of opportunity and a +2 dodge bonus to AC against attacks of opportunity. These bonuses increase to +4 at 8th level and +6 at 15th level.
Stag: The creature gains a 5-foot enhancement bonus to its base land speed. This bonus increases to 10 feet at 8th level and 20 feet at 15th level.
Tiger: The creature gains a +2 enhancement bonus to Dexterity. This bonus increases to +4 at 8th level and +6 at 15th level.
Wolf: The creature gains the scent ability with a range of 10 feet. The range of this sense increases to 20 feet at 8th level and 30 feet at 15th level. The range doubles if the opponent is upwind, and is halved if the opponent is downwind.
I can improve the initial attitude of an animal. This ability functions as a Diplomacy check to improve the attitude of a person. I roll 1d20 and add my hunter level and my Charisma modifier to determine the wild empathy check result. The typical domestic animal has a starting attitude of indifferent, while wild animals are usually unfriendly.
To use wild empathy, the hunter and the animal must be within 30 feet of one another under normal conditions. Generally, influencing an animal in this way takes 1 minute but, as with influencing people, it might take more or less time.
I can also use this ability to influence a magical beast with an Intelligence score of 1 or 2, but I take a –4 penalty on the check.
Animal Companion: I have an animal companion as though I were a druid. While my animal companion is dead, any animal I summon with a summon nature's ally spell remains for 1 minute per level instead of 1 round per level. I cannot have more than one summon nature's ally spell active in this way at one time.

When he arrived at the druid’s circle he found that they already knew of the malady, for it was afflicting them as well. They had a treatment, that would stay the infections spread, and they had recently discovered the source, with the help of a visitor; a man calling himself Petros Lorrimor; Ronan had never seen anyone like him, his cloths were clean, and he smelled strange; Ronan didn’t like it. However the druids seemed to trust him and he claimed to know what was causing the affliction. The strange man claimed that the infection was caused by a creature that had taken up residence deeper in the woods, and it was this creature that was spreading the infection, its very presence corrupting the world around it. He claimed to have studied the creature, but he needed help to stop it as he was not a warrior. After much debate, it was decided that Lorrimor would lead Ronan and a small group of the strongest druids to the creature’s lair to slay it. They tracked the fell creature to a cave, deep in the forest and slew it, however, it was a costly victory; the monster killed several of the druids before succumbing; and the Druids blamed Larrimor for their deaths. He took his leave, but not before receiving a promise from Ronan, that one day, he would call on him for help, and Ronan would answer.
I will make an Alias if I am selected.
Lilith Lorrimor |
I think I'm roughly finished. I haven't got a copy of the final release of Occult Adventures yet, so I worked off the playtest document -- if allowed, I would update to the final version once I've procured a copy of the book.
Short version: Lilith is Petros Lorrimor's ex-wife who ran away with some of his occult items and used them to build a career as a melee-focused Occultist working in the security field in Ustalav.
Shol’a’saul |
This is Eric Swanson throwing my hat into the ring here with Shol'a'saul, my elven witch. I built her for a CC game that died whilst we were exploring Harrowstone, so I did not complete the first book (sad to say, he he).
Her primary role would be a healer for the party and also a backup skill monkey, due to her intelligence and her traits.
Detective Drake |
two posts a day minimum and combat in order of posting to keep things moving, sign me up!
Detective Drake was built for a CC campaign that died from slow play, he needs to be updated to a 20 point build, examples of writing can be found in his posts.
Might multiclass as a Rogue/Paladin as the experiences in Harrowstone mold him?
Javell DeLeon |
I've got Morbury's mechanics finished up. Should be good to go but I do tend to miss things.

No problem, Javell. Don't worry about mechanics too much at the moment, really I'm just looking for the concept and interesting characters and there will be time to tinker with the crunch before the game starts.

When is the deadline? The thing about a minimum of 2 posts per day requirement makes me quite interested. I've also not played this AP before.
I'm thinking either a dirge bard, a magus or a gravewalker witch. Would you allow a gravewalker witch or is it too much against the theme of this campaign? The idea would be to take control over the undead we fight for her own purposes.
I also want to play with Hotaru, though obviously only if he submits a character
oyzar |
Deadline isn't until Thursday so Hotaru (and others) have plenty of time but I'll check out the gravewalker witch and let you know.
It's basically a necromancer version of witch. My idea is basically someone using evil to fight evil, with the character itself being neutral(same flavor as malconvoker, just using undead instead of planar beings). Of course actually using undead might be too evil in the first place...
oyzar |
Oyzar, I'll just let you know now that if both your character and mine are picked there is a 0% chance of them working together. Inquisitor of Pharasma who is all about cleansing the world of undead.
I'll look into other options then. Maybe a wizard of the necromancy school with the ability to turn undead, or maybe just go with the magus idea I had...
Are we allowed to pick a drawback for an additional trait?
Would an Aasimar life oracle be counted as an too uncommon race?
Detective Drake |
For your consideration, Mortimer Drake, a LG Rogue of the Investigator archetype with the intention to multiclass as a Rogue/Paladin
from the PRD: Investigator - Not all rogues work against the law. Investigators use their skills to serve the law, often in the employ of nobles or in the pursuit of noble causes. In some cities cabals of investigators work for rulers or bureaucracies, but often an investigator is a free agent who pursues whatever mysteries come across her path. Of course, not all investigators serve the law. Crime lords and guildmasters often have squads of investigators serving their own nefarious purposes.
Mortimer was shocked when he read the summons. It wasn't so long ago that he and the professor had crossed paths, just a few years, and it felt like those years had passed as quickly as months. Lorrimor had been in Lepidstadt for a series of discussions on ancient tomes. Pursuing a thief that was targeting scholars of ancient texts, Mortimer had attended the same conference for insight on the motivations of his prey. During a break from the lecture, he and the professor were discussing the methods of black market book dealers over a cup of tea when a reckless wagon driver toppled a vendor's cart beside them. Always quick to react, Mortimer pulled the professor to safety as the upended cart crashed into the space they been standing a moment before. It wasn't an amazing display of talent, just a lucky moment, but the grateful professor never forgot him and their friendship grew from that event. Letters and visits had followed, though not frequently, and respect always remained between the men. Saddened by the news, and curious why the professor would summon him, Mortimer packed a few possessions and made the journey to Ravengro.

Sorry Marcus, have now updated my spreadsheet.
Aasimar is fine for that concept oyzar.
What about alternate heritages? Would an azata blooded Aasimar be ok?
Also, I have a hard time deciding between dual cursed and spirit guide for my archtype. Spirit Guide replaces class skills with new ones while dual cursed removes all class skills. I don't suppose I could take both archtypes (removing all class skills as a result)?
Still not sure if I want to actually make an oracle instead of an arcane caster though if both of those things go the way I want I probably will, if not we'll see.
oyzar |
Somebody else asked about variant heritages for tieflings but we are just using standard for this game. Also, when I add both archetype in Herolab it still gives you Diplomacy, Heal, Sense Motive and Spellcraft as class skills?
Oracles normally get Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Heal (Wis), Knowledge (history) (Int), Knowledge (planes) (Int), Knowledge (religion) (Int), Profession (Wis), Sense Motive (Wis), and Spellcraft (Int) as class skills and then several extra ones depending on their mystery. Life for example normally gets Handle Animal, Knowledge (nature), and Survival. Spirit Guide replace those gained by Life with all knowledge skills instead while Dual Cursed removes all those gained from mystery. Hence if you allow both, I believe I would get the ones all oracles get.

I guess you do not have a separate category for it, but I wanted to point out the Beohawk is Ranged and not Melee. Also, with trap finding he is really more a full BAB skills guy than melee.

Dude you don't know the half of it! I think there are something like 25 (excellent) submissions and another 10 or so who have registered interest but not yet put in anything solid.
GM's always say "Man, this has been such a tough choice blahblahblah..." when recruitment closes. But I can genuinely say this has been the toughest recruitment I've presided over so far. Literally everyone has done a good job on their characters and so I have to give you all kudos on the creativity and quality of your submissions.
CampinCarl9127 |
It's because of you and your original post, GM. The more devoted board members can smell a good recruitment starting up, and I haven't seen one this good since a few years ago when GM IB started his WotW recruitment. I don't envy the decision you will have to make, but I do envy you getting to GM a party made entirely of the highest quality members of the boards. I'm sure that whoever you decide to have in the game, it's going to be a blast!
Hotaru of the Society |
@CampinCarl: You must have Missed GM Kiora's, along with a host of other really great recruitments (most of which I didn't get into!). :)
Here is a link to Noah's Profile page. Sorry it took me so long, but many things came up on sunday (so many things). Hopefully that's enough to work with. The prophetic parts are taken very loosely from the background I provided plus the information readily available upon looking at the Carrion Crown AP's page (The little blurbs you'd likely read on the back of a book). I'm not sure how much of the books that gives major tells for, but I really wanted a bit of foreshadowing in there. Noah is a fey-touched human Hunter from Magnimar who favors archery, worships Ashava (Empyreal Lord of Lost Souls) and has a companion wolf who's too smart for his own good. :)
:) Don't forget, Bellona Arc and I are apping together! :)
CampinCarl9127 |
There are many good recruitments. There are many enjoyable games. But a truly great game comes along every once in a long while, and my spider senses are telling me this is one of them.
GM Kiora's recruitment looked pretty good, but I'm already in a WotR game and I didn't like some of her houserules. I'm certain the party is having a blast, as she looks like a very good GM.
haruhiko88 |
There are a lot of good characters, good luck to everyone. I've been checking in and watching the posts, but due to travel I haven't been able to get a post in.
Rission's basic story is that he's a mage (arcanist) that is related to the Thrune family of Cheliax. But there are waaaaay too many people to kill for him to get anywhere so he'd rather just become an adventurer to gain fame and spread his name, not that of the Thrune family. I played him for 2 sessions in a RL Carrion Crown game that was doomed and somehow got the paladin to listen to him even though he blatantly follows Asmodeus.
