@Phylotus, I see that you made a character anyway, but I'll answer your questions in case anyone else is curious about them. 1. I'm fine with most paizo legal animal companions, although if something is obviously overpowered I might be less likely to invite the character to play in the game. 2. My intention with the dark secrets is two-fold. First, for this campaign, I see darkness as something inherent in Ustalav, and so it's people and heroes should have some darkness in them as well, regardless of alignment or intention. Second, I tend to find stories more entertaining if the protagonist has some sort of flaw(s), tragic or otherwise. So, my advice would be to come up with a dark secret that conceptually fits with the character while making him or her more interesting.
@Dmitri, Your background and sheet look good, your application is accepted.
@Riuk, Everything checks out now, your application is accepted.
@Brother Ivan, Thanks for the clarification.
@alsoBoris, You're welcome, I thought that would work better.
@Wiles, Thanks for checking in.
@Ezez, The background information for those two characters is good, although I'd prefer Griffin's mother to be older. Feel free to submit character sheets.

I haven't looked at the playtest document before, but skimming the product page shows that there's an archetype for Inquisitor that might fit my PC. I'll give it a look and may revise his sheet to include that archetype.
edit: I downloaded the playtest document and it doesn't have the archetypes mentioned on the product page. Oh, well.

I honestly want to love to occult classes, but they currently just seem so... blech. Especially seeing how the psychic spell list isn't totally fleshed out, and the mesmerist relies a lot on illusions which vary in efficacy from gm to gm. I really want to like the occultist, but only one spell per school per level per implement sounds like a bookkeeping nightmare and seriously limiting. I dunno, i WANT to love them, but currently, i just can't... though maybe I'll rethink my position before the deadline, we'll have to see

Sergio Calavantes. To some the name reminds them of good times, to others, well, let's just say that many who would never have committed murder give thought to it when the name is mentioned.
Born of gypsy parents, and born is used with tongue firmly planted in cheek, Sergio seemed a normal child till about the age of 16. About the time he really started to notice he was able use charm and beguilement to his advantage. He used what readily became apparent of his heritage to his advantage as well. His deep black hair gives way to small pinpoints of light in low light, and when someone pays close attention they can tell that the pinpoints mimic the starscape, until Sergio causes the long skein of hair to move and the illusion is lost. And the eyes. Deep blue, and in the right light, you'd swear you see the reflection of the moonphase in them. Ask Sergio about it and he'll laugh and tell you he has no idea what you mean.
Life amongst the gypsies suited Sergio well. Their travelling way of life suited him, as well as their fierce protection of one another. His parents were merchants, and performers, and Sergio learned the art of the violin and song from a very early age. As luck would have it, a wandering noble (or more accurately a wandering noble's wife) took note of the lad's violin and voice and stated a desire to have Sergio perform as a house musician. His father and mother struck up a bargain, and Sergio was "loaned" to the noble family for a term of 2 years.
Sergio performed admirably for his allotted time, but things came to a disastrous end, when Sergio was ready to leave, and the nobleman's daughter proclaimed her love for Sergio, and claimed that Sergio loved her. This angered the nobleman (and infurated his wife), who accused Sergio of beguiling his daughter. Sergio simply smiled and said "Beguiling is what I do. I'm a performer, m'lord." The nobleman couldn't be rid of Sergio quickly enough, and arrangements were made for the gypsy to leave the next day. That night, Sergio was interrupted by the wails of the nobleman. Quickly shooing his daliance out of bed, Sergio hurried to see what was the matter. Coming upon the nobleman's bedroom he was shocked by the sight. The nobleman knelt, slumped and sobbing over the form of his wife in a pool of blood. Not ten feet away stood the daughter with a bloody knife in her hands. When she saw Sergio, she smiled a wide, empty eyed smile, "Now I've done away with the whore. We can be together." Sergio choked on the words in the empty air, and stood, mouth agape.
The nobleman turned around to him, rage building on his face. "You...YOU!! You are to blame for ruining the two most beautiful women I know." He stood slowly, his wife's blood staining both the arms and legs of his nightshirt, his face so full of rage giving him the look of some avenging spirit. An accusing hand pointed to Sergio, "Get out, get out now...and may you be cursed with never knowing the real love of a wife or child!"
Sergio made haste to leave that night, with no idea of where to go, and having to leave behind many of his belonging. He was in the streets of the city when he happend to run into, quite literally, a bookish man who was getting ready to leave by carriage. Professor Lorrimor, Sergio would come to learn, and the man was happy to lend Sergio a hand in departing, and did so only on the promise of two things. The first, that Sergio would provide entertainment on the ride with his violin, and two, that Sergio would come when the Professor called to even the debt.
It's been years now, and Sergio had all but forgotten about the debt to the Professor, but the image of the nobleman standing like some apparition of vengeance haunts him, even now...
His dark secret is first: He actually did have a tryst with the nobleman's daughter and *may* have lead on that she could run away with him, and was semi-serious about it. Second: The whole incident of the daughter killing the mother and going crazy. And finally, being a gypsy he is very worried about the curse the nobleman laid on him while the nobleman was standing in/near that much blood. Blood curses are serious business to gypsies.
And all good horror stories should have some gypsy in them, right? ;)
Sergio is going to concentrate on battlefield control and granting boons to his companions, either from spell or song. He can also be the face of the party, and try to defuse situations through bluff, diplomacy and charm before things get out of hand. He'll also offer some modicum of ranged combat. So really the skilled or wild card spot would be best for him.

Mr.Sandman |

Ok, third times the charm, I hope.
And said secrets could return one of the greatest darknesses in existence to this world.
Thirteen years ago a Paladin and a Witch met by chance, the witch searching for her cousin who had run away after her parents had died, and the paladin investigating a rash of disappearing orphans in the area. Through their research they discovered that similar things had been happening for hundreds of years, all over Ustalav. They eventually catch wind of a vampire of the rare Vetala breed, called the Daughter of Nightmares, who acts as a recruiter for the shadowy Whispering Way. The foul creature disguises herself as a young girl, no more than the age of six, and befriends the children of the streets before taking them 'somewhere safe' to be inducted into the dark organization themselves.
Reluctantly using a gnomish ally as bait, the two snuck into the vampires hideout to destroy her coffin and rescue the witches cousin, but what they found with it shook them to their souls. The vampire wasn't just pretending to be a six year old girl, she was one. Her parents had been followers of the Whispering Way themselves and, when she had been caught in the crossfire between their sect and a group of Paladins, they had her turned and offered her to their dark masters for the rest of her incredibly long existence. She had been forced to locate children to induct into the evil cult for eight hundred years, commanded by powerful magic compulsions and the need of a child to obey their parents wishes.
Tears in their eyes, the two women turned to leave, only to be stopped by two figures blocking the doorway. The Daughter of Nightmares looked at them, their gnomish friend held dead in one hand, and pleaded for their forgiveness before brutally attacking. They defeated her, with difficulty, and with her last breath the girl thanked them for putting her to rest, and ending the darkness that she had become.
But an ancient Vetala does not die so easily. The stored consciousness of centuries of grief instinctively lashed out, and would have killed them in their victory, but Eliza, the witches little cousin, took it into herself and clensed it. Eliza and the consciousness that calls itself Margret now share a body, neither knowing the truth of what they really are, as the dark memories were locked away by the power of their merging. This is the true history of Eliza Valderas, and one her mothers hope she will never experience again.
Eliza Valderas, NG human Spiritualist (OA playtest) level 1
Still needs some tweaking, and I have to redo the sheet, but I wanted to get her up before going back to work.

GM Harker |

@Kelarith, Is your character a human or an aasimar? Also, I believe that the term gypsy isn't used in Golarion, but Varisian caravans are analogous to that. Just let me know your race then your application will be good.
@Corsario, I'd prefer all characters start at the minimum age for their race which I believe for humans is 15-16. Otherwise, you're good.
@Mr.Sandman, I am completely satisfied with your new background, I look forward to seeing the character sheet.

Mahorfeus |

Ah, I forgot to address two of the points for character creation.
As far as Kardas' role, I think it can go without saying that he would be a frontline fighter, primarily focusing on damage. The spells he ends up taking down the line would be more for support, since the save DCs would be a bit lackluster. Not entirely certain what feats to take, so it might be a little experimental; barbarian-types do not exactly need many to be really good.
As for posting habits, I am generally capable of posting multiple times on a daily basis, depending on how quickly things in the game advance. There are only a few exceptions, which I try to inform people of before they happen.

Cassandra Blackmoore |

Cassandra's role would be that of Healer, of course, but also Buffer.
Cassandra was attacked by a Shadow in the woods but only after meeting her "Mother". She refused the Hag's offer to join her nad her coven and fled. The coven sent the Shadow after her to weaken her and return her to them. They didn't count on awakening her potential, although that has only made them more intent on returning her to the fold.

My Changeling Mesmerist, Alenza Taliani, can be found here
As far as posting goes: At least daily, more if the game allows it. I'm very much against posting just to meet a count though, so if there is nothing to add I might just pop in on the discussion instead.
While Alenza doesn't know all the details she does know that her mother hunts her and that she has to keep moving if she doesn't want to get caught. She also knows that as long as her mother lives her mother forms a threat to her and everyone around her.
As far as her real father goes she knows very little. From the time she spent with Professor Lorrimor, who studied her after learning she was a Changeling that some how learned to completely block out her mother's calling, was that she apparently looked a lot like an old colleague and friend of the Professor who had gone missing roughly a year before Alenza's birth. It still is nothing but conjecture, but the thought her father actually was a good and smart man is somewhat soothing to her.
Alenza grew up to Varisian parents. The woman she regards as her real mother is a Harrower while her father makes shoes. She grew up in a warm family with four other siblings, all boys and all older than she so as a result she lived a very sheltered and protected life until the moment she heard the Calling. At first unclear what it was it was her adoptive mother who figured it out as the Harrow spoke to her. Knowing her family could not keep her safe from this threat she started to figure out a way to deal with it on her own. She quickly came to the conclusion that by focusing her mind she could completely negate the normal effects of her mother's calling but could still hear it. She hoped this would be enough.
Sadly it was not. One night, when walking through her home town with a friend, she suddenly saw an enormous, crooked form coming at her. Instantly realising that was she saw was the hag responsible for the sounds she heard, so her mother, Alenza and her friend turned to run but the hag effortlessly caught up with them. With a single smack of her clawed hand Alenza's friend was flung through the air until she crashed against a building, instantly killing her. Alenza herself managed to escape, but only barely. At the time she had very little control of her abilities but somehow she manifested a cloud of fog around herself which allowed her to escape while at the same time implant a thought in her mother which sent her scrambling through the cloud and in the wrong direction.
It was that moment though that made Alenza realise she wasn't safe and that doesn't around her weren't either. In order to prevent her family from getting hurt she ran. She moved from town to town, always moving on the moment she heard her mother's calling.
It was this behaviour, combined with sightings of a hag after Alenza had passed, that eventually attracted the Professor's attention. He requested she'd join him at Lepidstadt University, sure that Alenza's mother would not follow her there. There they talked about what she did to evade her mother and the burgeoning skills she was developing. It only lasted for a few months though as Alenza heard her mother again on a very misty night and actually saw her standing outside on the university's grounds. With the help of the Professor she fled again and evade her mother.
After fleeing for several years Alenza eventually settled in Caliphas. For some reason unknown to her her mother did not come near to the city. She could occasionally hear her mother calling but it was distant and weak, never so close that it was threatening.
Then came the letter about the Professor. Alenza knew she had to go there to pay her respects. She also knew that this threatened to expose her and she was taking a risk. Eventually her mother would notice she left Caliphas and she would come after her again.
As far as party role goes, Alenza obviously is of an Occult bend. In combat she's mainly a support character. Starting out as a controller and a debuffer she can also dish out some damage. At later points she'll also be able to help buff allies.
Out of combat she'd be great as the party face and can also function as a scout, to a certain extent.

On the subject of mesmerists, will you (GM or player, or both) be going strictly off the playtest document, or will you be incorporating the changes in the playtest forum as well? I remember that Jason put forth some changes for the playtest that seemed to make it stronger as a class (in my opinion), specifically adding its own kind of sneak attack (painful stare) and making the hypnotic stare slightly better

There already was an ok to this on page 2. The precision damage part still isn't that good thing, mainly due to the once per round thing. It's the buffs to Hypnotic Stare and to Mental Potency that do it for me.

This man is obviously not purely human, with his skin having a reddish hue and features seeming to be oddly angled. Jet black hair and dark brown eyes do seem quite human, however, and there is little other to distinguish him from his fellow man. His equipment is immaculately kept, each piece well tended and in place, and his weapons and armor are well kept and ready for action. However, he doesn't have the manner of a warrior about him. There is an oddly pensive and evaluative method about him, almost as if he were studying his surroundings more than experiencing them.
Teilaenthis Arcanos was born Teil Blackburn under rather unfortunate circumstances. His mother had been taken by force by a dark wizard who offered her as a sacrifice to a daemon he was attempting to ally with. The wizard had no further use for her, and cast her out once the daemon had raveged her, but she was a strong woman and survived the trauma. When she learned she was pregnant, many of her friends encouraged her to do away with the child, but her husband, a local tradesman, supporter her and promised to care for her. When Teil was born, he was named after his paternal great uncle and both his mother and father treated him well despite his daemonic abnormalities. His elder brother took him on as well, and he lived a childhood that few could have expected, surrounded by love and attention as well as any of his birthright could expect. He flourished under the upbringing and it was clear from an early age that he possessed an uncanny intellect that surpassed any in his family. However, it wasn't much of an issue, because all that Teil wanted to do is follow in his elder brother Staelin's ootsteps. As they grew, his elder brother took to the more physical skills and excelled at martial games. As he matured, it seemed clear he would be a soldier or a guard. Teil tried to do the same, but it was clear his talents lay elsewhere.
Despite this, the two were close and looked for opportunities to be together. One such was arranged by their father, who had done some work for Professor Lorrimor in the past saw the Professor's adventures as a way for the boys to each excel and spend time together. On a local trip out into Ustalav, Staelin was hired on as a guard/porter and Teil was brought along as an archaeologist's apprentice. The young man's keen eye and mind were well suited to the task and the Professor took a liking to both the boys. While digging in a ravine, the two boys were assisting the professor, when Lorrimor uncovered a skeleton of a warrior who still bore a wand, a battleaxe and shield. The boys were certain that the wand, axe and shield were magical, despite the Profesor's insistence that it was a recent find and not that likely to be of special occasion. The boys argued with each other as to the value of the items, while the Professor processed the scene and eventually told the boys to start back up the ravine, carrying the shield, black-oak wand and axe back up to camp.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck and the ravine caved into the large excavation they were making. Teil, Saelin and the Professor were all falling into the cave-in as the ravine gave way beneath their feet. Teil lashed out with his tail and secured himeslf and stretched to grab the Professor's hand. He gripped tightly and held the Professor safely while the cave in claimed his brother's life. The Professor ensured Teil, his family, and all others that Teil was a hero for saving him, but the loss of his brother effected Teil deeply and he withdrew into himself. The one thing he would do to keep some semblance of his former happiness alive is work and study with the Professor. Lorrimor conviced Teil to continue with his magical studies, though Teil's talents were hardly that of a wizard. Teil was remarkably good with magical artifacts, and Professor Lorrimor encouraged him in that direction. Teil eventually changed his name to Teilaenthis Arcanos as he became adept enough to invoke magical energies out of the wand and sword he found on the day his brother died.
No called again to serve Professor Lorrimor, Teilaenthis has joined the cause willingly and with grand hopes that he can make the professor and his parents proud.
On the day his brother died, Teilaenthis had argued bitterly with his brother over the value of the wand, axe, and shield. Teil was certain that they were important historical artifacts, but his brother insisted they were mundane and that the Professor would give him the axe and shield to use to start off an adventuring career where Staelin would leave Teil and his parents far behind. Teil's anger got the better of him at the most inopportune time, as when the cave-in happened he had a split-second choice where he could have easily reached to save his brother instead of the Professor. Who knows, the professor may have lived anyhow, but his brother had not. Teil's greed at the opportunity to studdy the axe, wand and shield, that he felt certain were important relics, caused him to save the Professor who bore the prizes rather than his own brother.
Racked with guilt for years since, Teil has often questioned whether his daemonic heritage has tainted him with evil and greed and that was why he let his brother die. When he thinks honestly, however, he knows it was a child's foolish greed - but that does not assuage the guilt. To make his brother's sacrifice worth the loss, Teil has sworn to use the axe, sword, and wand to accomplish great things in the world. He has studied and practice the items, and honestly believes that he can invoke the ancient magics within them to great effect. When the Professor's summons came, Teil was certain that this is the opportunity to redeem himself that he has been waiting for. He has vowed that he will do all he can to protect whatever companions join him and to make certain that he contributes well to the task the Professor sets him to.
Teilaenthis is at first quite reserved whenever meeting someone, but quickly attempts to ingratiate himself - almost too much. Social skills are clearly not his forte, but a genuine sincerity seems to be behind his attempts to belong - again almost too much. That said his loyalty to his companions is beyond true, he is always willing to take first watch, be first through the door, take the risk for another. There is clearly something he is trying to prove, but the end result is a companion whose professionalism, loyalty and dedication cannot be questioned. Teilaenthis does his best in defending his allies and is quick to combat, but he is clearly a deep thinker and a student of the mundane and arcane world that surrounds him. His martial skills do not match his willingness to fight to defend himself or a friend, but he makes up for them with is keen insight and minor magical talents. It will be hard to find a more loyal companion, but there is a distance within Teilaenthis that might make it hard to become a true friend.
Teileanthis will fill several roles in a party. With his knowledge skills, occultist skills, disable device, etc - he covers many skills that a party needs to have along. In memory of his brother, he is practicing with axe and shield and can fill a secondary melee roll. With his occultist magic he fills the role of secondary arcane caster, and with his formidable Use Magical Devices, can answer many needs in that regard.
Action wise, the lone feat that Teilaenthis has to offer shows that he is all about teamwork and contributing. He does not intend to let another companion die as his brother died and will do all he can to contribute to the success of a group.

Emyralda |

Just squeaking in under the wire. For your consideration I would like to apply with Emyralda Mvashti, Varisian Occultist. Emyralda's stats and background (including her relationship with Professor Lorrimor and her Dark Secret) are included in this alias. Emyralda is mainly an Occult version of the magus with some skill support, but is anticipated to provide some broader spellcasting abilities as she advances.
I previously played a different character through the Haunting of Harrowstone and the first part of Trial of the Beast in a PbP campaign that ended early last year due to DM illness. I am not currently playing in another Carrion Crown campaign on the boards. I have no problem with separating player knowledge from character knowledge.
I can easily post at least once per day on weekdays, and usually once per day or more on weekends.
Thank you for your consideration. Good luck to everyone!

This is just like a job interview. You got through it and hoped you had all the right answers but you feel you could have done just a little bit better.
Now you wait for that call to see if you got the job. You obsessively check for any message that will give you a clue if you made it or not.
Good Luck to everyone!
