Thank you for considering me; it is always fun to make new characters.

Hey there!

Once again, our team of valiant heroes (and me) are GM-Less.

We are seeking someone to pick the adventure up. We've just arrived in Trushmoor, and got ambushed in a barn.

(At the start of Book 4)

Let me know what you'd like/prefer in a frontliner. Happy to build one to suit.

I've been toying with tripping builds and would love to build one for this. Would that help everyone get their licks in? Or are there too many ranged combatants?

Would love to craft a character that synergizes with the group's combat style/tactics, etc...

I'm not much of a divine caster.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Here is Sonny Wright He is a channeler and spell casting cleric rather than a more martial one. I have played him in a couple of Carrion Crown games. Between them I have played up into book 5.

While a Paladin seems an obvious fit, I think I’d be interested in offering an orc ranger dual wielding an orc double axe as a front liner.

Does the party have a rogue? If not, I could do Urban Ranger to cover some of the Rogue skills, otherwise I might look at some other archetypes.

Vivian is a Rogue/ Inquisitor, an interesting combo

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16

I had noticed that, but I didn’t know if she is responsible for doing the “Rogue Stuff.” I was considering a dip into Rogue myself for some Sneak Attack damage. We can be flanking buddies.

Question: Not having played Carrion Crown before, I am clueless here. What major cities are we talking about? I'm asking for the purposes of the Urban Ranger's Favored Terrain choices.

Thank you.

Might do this as a non orc build.

Alright, Zahir here.

I ended up meshing the ideas I had flowing in my head. A half orc U-Rogue/Ranger dual wielding daggers. I de-emphasized the non-combat Rogueness, however. Only putting 1 skill point into most of the standard Rogue skills, expecting that Vivian has that covered. Likewise, I moved away from Urban Ranger, since that's more of a Rogue build.

Without flanking, sneak attacking, favored enemy, bard song, or bane bonuses, he is hitting for 1d4+14 damage maybe 4 times per round with a +11/+6 bonus on those attacks. With buffs, flanking, favored enemy bonuses, etc. I imagine he can tear down some undead. I'm sure he'll have the chance to try!

I need to put down a background, and a dirty little secret for him as well. Does everyone need to know his secret, or only the GM?

Anyways, with a 25AC, and the damage dealing ability Sabola has, I hope he can make a credible effort at backfilling for your lost frontliner.

Re the secret, it varies. I think our bard/investigator's secret is obvious to the rest of the party, but Pontia's hasn't really come up yet.

I'd like to submit Selene here, a Dhampir Undead Scourge Paladin of Sarenrae. There's still a few things I want to ponder over (Unsanctioned Knowledge spells for 3rd and 4th level mostly, which won't be relevant for this level anyway). Hopefully she can also be a decent option for a frontliner to your party. The Con penalty hurts a bit for a tanking role, as does halving lay on hands healing, but I'm hoping that Mirror Image and the Injured Mercy will help compensate for those.

I'm also planning on getting Ultimate Mercy by 11 or 13, which would bring Raise Dead to the table - I won't be able to cast Restoration to go along with it until level 13, unfortunately, but scrolls would be an available option until then.

Descended from undead nobility, perhaps from Geb, Nidal, or Ustalav, some dhampirs inherit a bit of their ancestors’ ability to control living beings. They can use command and charm person each once per day. This racial trait replaces the spell-like ability racial trait.

Backstory:

Selene knows very little about her origins, knowing only what her adoptive father told her: Her mother wondered into town in a weak state, and died giving birth to her, as is typical for her kind. Her adoptive father, Elric Iluzr, a priest of Sarenrae who took her in and kept her shielded from the reproachful looks of the other villagers. While clearly unhappy having such a cursed child around, they never did anything to get her to leave, out of respect for her father and the help he had given them over the years.

Disaster struck when the vampire who was responsible for her birth found out about her and her foster father. In a sadistic display of cruelty, killed most of the citizens, including Elric, but proposedly leaving Selene alive, letting her live with the loss and forcing her to face the world alone - sure that she would soon come to despise the humans who feared her and would eventually return to his side.

Lost and devastated, Selene wandered aimlessly, until she turned to Sarenrae for support. Bolstered by the Dawnlight's strength, she has dedicated herself to follow her foster father's path, vowing to protect the innocents and rid the land of the undead scourge that plagues it - including the vampire monster that sired her.

During her travels, she encounter the late professor as he was being ambushed by a group of undead beasts, and she managed to jump in just in time to protect him. They spoke at length as she escorted him to his destination, and he was particularly surprised and interested in how Selene still managed to call upon her goddess's power to heal herself, despite her heritage. And while the deed and following trip apparently left a mark significant enough for the professor to include her in his will, she unfortunately did not get the notice in time to be there, as Selene tries to never stay too long in one place - even when she's not ran out of town for being an abomination in their eyes, she knows most still find her presence unsettling.

Dark Secret:

Spoiler:

While her vampire 'father' is indeed responsible for the town's residents deaths, Selene herself was the weapon he used to do so - by dominating her and ordering to kill and feed on her neighbours. And while she knows, at some level, that this was his doing, she can't help but blame herself for letting him control her. Especially as she only managed to try and shrug the mental domination when her foster father interposed himself between her and another victim - it was if the deaths of the others who shunned her all those years meant nothing besides the sweet taste of their blood on her lips.

Even though Sarenrae herself seems to have accepted her willingness to atone for those deeds, and ensure nothing similar happens again, Selene hasn't forgiven herself, and likely won't. Her journey across the country, destroying undead and other evils is not just about protecting the innocent for her - it is also her way of trying to atone for her deeds.

Appearance:

Like most dhampir, Selene presents a tall figure, normally encased in full plate armor, that hides her beautiful, slender body. She favours wearing a closed helmet, to make it harder on strangers to notice her cursed heritage and judge her unfairly for it.
Her emerald eyes, a stark contrast to her porcelain skin, seem to burn with a grim determination that easily turns to righteous fury when she is faced with undead or other vile, unrepentable creatures. Her long whitish blonde hair is usually pulled back into a tight braid, and while she is typically serious and her smile a rare sight, there's a softness to her that is noticeable whenever she is tending to someone's wounds or afflictions.

Hey folks, seems we've got some frontliner interest.

I do however endorse trawets71's... Sunny Wright. I'm Andjela Daywalker from the game we were in together.

I'm gonna skip this one. Good luck everyone!

Background, including secret, added.

Here is what I have so far. If I am missing anyone, let me know:

Trawets71: Sonny Wright Cleric
Zahir ibn Mahmoud ibn Jothan: Sabola Ranger/Rogue
Pancakes: Selene Iluzr Paladin

What are your current characters?

Bard8/Inv1, Rog5/Inq4, Wiz9.

Let's keep recruitment open until Monday, then we will make a decision. So last call!

Thanks! Always nice to read everyone's thoughts with so many options available. I was already leaning heavily towards Good Hope and Freedom of Movement, so I think I'll go with those choices, unless there's something else not yet covered by the rest of the party that they would rather have.

I could always play Lady Imperia Thrune

My pleasure. One of the many useful threads I have marked as a Favorite over the years, for just such an emergency!

Not sure if this is an open recruitment but I'd love to submit my Aasimar Ghost Rider Cavalier, Alaric Moonrider.

Backstory:
Alaric Dawnrider, an Aasimar, was born under auspicious circumstances in the city of Ardis in the haunted lands of Ustalav. His celestial heritage was evident from birth, marked by his golden eyes, silvery hair, and an aura of divine light that surrounded him. Alaric's parents, both devout followers of Iomedae, saw his birth as a sign of hope in a land shadowed by darkness and despair.

From a young age, Alaric felt a strong pull towards the ideals of justice, honor, and protection of the innocent. He trained rigorously under the tutelage of his father, a retired knight, and learned the ways of the sword and the principles of knighthood. His celestial ancestry bestowed upon him not only an exceptional aptitude for combat but also an unwavering moral compass that guided his every action.

When Alaric came of age, he joined the Order of the Sword, a chivalric order dedicated to the pursuit of justice and the protection of the innocent. His dedication and prowess quickly earned him a reputation as a formidable warrior and a paragon of virtue. However, Alaric's path took a darker turn when he encountered an ancient relic imbued with the restless spirit of a long-dead knight.

The spirit, a ghostly steed named Pharos, bonded with Alaric, granting him the powers of a Ghost Rider. Pharos, once a noble mount in life, became an ethereal companion to Alaric, capable of traversing the realms of the living and the dead. With this newfound power, Alaric took on the mantle of a Ghost Rider Cavalier, vowing to use his abilities to protect the living from the evils of the undead and other supernatural threats.

Though to be fair, I forgot how insanely strong cavaliers can be in 1st edition. When dismounted he is an okay fighter with Longsword and Shield. Mounted it gets a little bonkers. . .

Submissions are now closed and I believe this is the final list. Let me know if I am missing anyone.

Trawets71: Sonny Wright Cleric
Zahir ibn Mahmoud ibn Jothan: Sabola Ranger/Rogue
Pancakes: Selene Iluzr Paladin
Critzible: Lady Imperia Valeria Thrune Paladin
Codanous: Alaric Moonrider Cavalier

So what I am going to do is ask my players to rank the submissions and the two top vote getters being asked to join the game. Stay tuned!

What's the plan here? 15 days and counting!

One of the other players has been slow to respond, and he's needed to break a tie.

I'm also eagerly awaiting the results of y'alls decision, I check thinking I may have missed it. Hope y'alls friend returns soon.

We have not heard from our wayward companion so we decided to recruit an extra player. It was a tough decision and there was no agreement between us, but the best three (i.e. lowest) rankings are as follows (in no particular order):

Sabola
Sonny Wright
Selene Iluzr

Please check in when you can.

Everyone else, thank you for your submissions and we will keep you in mind for the future.

Huzza!

Wow it appears this game has gone through at least 3 GM changes since it began is that actually true DM RichD??

DM RichD is the third, I think--Fuzzfoot took over from Harker, and then RichD and I cut a deal after Fuzzfoot GAFIAted: I took over the RotRL game that Fuzzfoot had been running for Rich, and Rich took this one over.

and... I'm the only one remaining of the original crew of characters. Game started in March 2015..

*is shocked*

Let's see about bringing this thing to a successful conclusion!!!

Wow. A very storied campaign. I'm rooting for you all on bringing it over the finish line.

If Vivian ever has to drop out, it'll become a Campaign of Theseus!

(For those unfamiliar with the reference.)
