How do magic bows and crossbows work?

Rules Questions

How does magic crossbows and bows work?

If you have a +1 bow/crossbow does it do +1 to hit and damage. Or does it only get +1 to hit and the arrows/bolts have to be enchanted to get the extra damage?

Grand Lodge

+1 to hit and damage.

So a +1 bow/crossbow should also effect a creature that needs magical weapons to hit?

I forgot to ask that in my original post :)

That's correct. A magic bow or crossbow grants its bonus to its ammunition.

So a +1 flaming crossbow shoots +1 flaming bolts that overcome DR/magic and deal fire damage.

As Avalon said, while the ammunition is in flight, it is as magical as a magic arrow. Before being shot and directly after impact, the ammo ceases being magic.

Thanks for the answers guys (excluding Kthulhu). It was very helpful.

Happy to be unhelpful.

So what happens if you use a +1 bow to shoot a +1 arrow?

Enhancement bonuses don't stack. However, if you used a +2 Flaming Bow to shoot a +1 Undead Bane Arrow, you would get +2 Flaming Undead Bane. That is, the effects of the bow stack with the effects of the arrow, following normal stacking rules (i.e. like bonuses don't stack)

Thank's for the input.
