GM Eddv |
You flurry of attacks downs the remaining orcs Since I dont feel like playing out the one remaining blind orc at my disposal and soon all are unconscious. The family of settlers seems overjoyed and they ask
So do you want us to come with you or go back to the town on our own?
Ishingka Thulkarian |
"We intend to go forward and check on the remaining settlements. That is dangerous. I recommend you head back to town."
Ishingka looks over the orcs for clues and gear.
Perc: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Thael Silverstep |
Thael nods. "I believe the way back will be safe, since we had just come from that direction. Gather what you will and head to the safety of town," he agrees.
Jag Koszonommonsk |
"Once everything is safe, we'll come let you know," Jag adds. "We gotta go save your neighbors."
Tae |
Tae nods... "Best follow our path back to town, so we can see to your neighbors... don't stray off the trail."
GM Eddv |
You arrive at the second farm and notice that it's probably the least...green you've ever seen a farm. You see dozens of different colored patches where the soil is twisted and broken and looking gnarled.
You arrive at the farm and you see frazzled looking dwarf and a bored looking woman with a big axe. The dwarf appears to be battoning down the hatches of his home and appears to be winding down his farming operations judging by the empty barrels and the way a lot of the tools are put away during what should be harvest season.
"Oh ho there strangers. If you're looking for same farmhouse ale and a place to sleep, you can stay but only if you work for it"
Thael Silverstep |
knowledge nature: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Thael examines the different colored patches of soil to try to determine if the farm is simply unkempt, or if there is something else going on.
He addresses the dwarf absentmindedly as he looks at the farm. "You realize this is not a safe place to be now, do you not? There has been an invasion of orcs and devils. We have come to urge you to seek the shelter of town."
diplo: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7
GM Eddv |
Thael, you don't know what terraforming is, but if you did you would think this was a terraforming accident of some kind. It looks like the Dwarf has been trying to alchemy to change the soil quality - to incredibly disastrous effect. You suspect it will be some time before this farm can bear any sort of yield.
The Dwarf looks concerned when you tell him that "Oh is that so - well we were just getting ready to wind down on this farm anyway..." The woman looks delighted and starts packing her bags.
"Well if we're leaving right now, I need to finish setting up all these traps on my property - I am leaving a lot of proprietary alchmical mixes here since we're leaving so soon and I won't have anyone STEALING them, is that ok with you?"
Hali Silverforge |
"I don't care iffen ye set traps first, but a band of orcs fell on us at the last farm; if a delay on yer part brings an attack on yer head after we leave, we'll nae be responsible fer yer deaths."
-Posted with Wayfinder
Ishingka Thulkarian |
"Can you show us where the traps are, so we don't step on them, and the orcs do instead? And...traps...and um...oh, nevermind."
She glares at Hali. "aren't you going to say something about the fact that this dwarf is insane?" she hisses in a stage whisper.
GM Eddv |
Well iffen you want this to go faster start setting some traps yourself to help me
Jag Koszonommonsk |
"As long as they're not bear traps," Jag insists, agreeing to help.
Thael Silverstep |
"I suppose it might be helpful if the orcs feel the farms around here might all be trapped. Let us set the traps and then continue on."
Any rolls to help set traps?
GM Eddv |
Rest assured they're PEOPLE traps, young man
craft checks, knowledge engineering or dungeoneering, disable device all applicable checks, DC 10 for the craft, 15 for the others
Hali Silverforge |
"Are we really taking time to help this dwarf? There are other farmers we need to warn..."

Thael Silverstep |
knowledge engineering: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
"I concur. We must hurry. But I think ten minutes here might help slow down the orcs. If they feel they must be careful with their attacks, we might buy all the farmers more time."
Thael's extensive reading keeps him well abreast of the latest trap designs.
Jag Koszonommonsk |
Jag does what he can, hastily, beginning to think Hali's idea to hurry is a good one.
K:Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
GM Eddv |
With the help of Thael, it takes the Dwarf about an hour and a half to set up the traps after which he thanks Thael and hands him 4 alchemist's fires. Then he and his bodyguard take off.
onward to D3, I presume?
Hali Silverforge |
if we're staying Hali will try to make it go faster
craft, weapons: 10 + 6 = 16 if weapons doesn't apply, please roll a dungeoneering at +4
Hali helps, grumbling about the orcs attacking other homesteads.
yes. D3 is fine

GM Eddv |
Well I was presuming you were staying to help make sure he left at all
You travel across the farmland and take the road. it's more or less dusk time by the time you arrive at the third ranch. It seems to be a livestock ranch of some kind, with a thin but still healthy group of chickens and cows.
The third ranchers don't come out to greet you but the light seems to be on.
Thael Silverstep |
Thael looks concerned. "This could be a trap...perhaps the orcs reached this place first after all," he observes.
The wizard looks for any clues that might indicate that not all is well.

Jag Koszonommonsk |
"Careful, Ussur," Jag says to his bear. "There should be people but there aren't. No cows until we figure it out," he adds, wagging his finger towards the bear. The two of them stroll to where the livestock is, checking for anything out of the ordinary.
Perception/Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
GM Eddv |
There are no signs of unusual numbers of people tracks - just two larger bipeds and two smaller ones alongside all of the usual livestock tracks.
Tae |
"Try the door? You mean knock, right? It could be just the rancher and his family or hands that are here still. We don't know for sure yet."
Ishingka Thulkarian |
"We need to bed down or camp in any case. At least the spell users do. My lovely cousins will no doubt come for us at night."
Ishingka unstraps her hammer and points it at the door. Instead of knocking, she shouts. [b}"Oi! Terrin Shaw sent us! Anyone in there? We're here to check on the homesteads!"[/b]
GM Eddv |
A middle aged elven man comes out and look at you with gratitude "Oh thank goodness...our little girl has come down with a terrible fever. My wife and I cannot leave her side. Please...go into the woods and try to find these specific herbs he says scrawling the names of certain herbs down Please I beg you
GM Eddv |
He gives you a look like 'beggars can't be choosers' and shows you to his daughter. "Oh raiding parties...well if we can get her fever down we will leave first thing in the morning....I think it's filth fever, lady cleric...can you heal her?"
Ishingka Thulkarian |
"Are there rats or sewage about?" says Ishingka, with the typical incredulousness of a city dweller. "Ari, can you do it? We need to stay close to these folk, not wander about in the wood."
Thael Silverstep |
Thael shrugs, not having the ability to cure her himself. He tries to think of any natural remedies for the disease.
knowledge nature: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
"I am not sure if this is fatal, is it?"
GM Eddv |
I was waiting for Arileth to reply but I guess shes not going to.
Thael thinks that the father is correct - there are local herbs nearby that have been used to treat diseases. With those herbs and a modicum of healing skill his daughter should make a full recovery.
Arileth |
Sorry, was going to formulate a reply when I had time and then plain forgot by the time I had time.
Arileth frowns, and rather than fake it, shakes her head. "Injuries, I can handle. Not sure I'd trust me with traditional medicine, though." Doesn't have Heal ranks anyway.
Hali Silverforge |
Hali grumbles about the other farms being in danger as he goes to find some herbs.

"Typically on the High Ice we just rested and hoped for the best whenever anyone would get sick. If you get the girl to town wouldn't that be an option?" Jag asks, unable to tell the difference between any of these different plants.
GM Eddv |
Hali is quickly able to find the herbs needed and the father is able to use his healing skills to apply the herbs.
Your party is able to rest for the night and breaks camp at dawn to continue their work.
D4 or D5?
Ishingka Thulkarian |
Agreed.
"Pfft, what kind of cleric are you, Arileth? Oh wait, I know the answer..." says Ishingka as they tread away from the settlement. "I hope they will stay safe, namely by running the Hells back to town. Orcs don't like elves much."

The next farmstead is labeled as the "Dessar Goat Ranch".
A quick discussion with them reveals that they are more than willing to go - but they are having trouble with their goatherd and want the whole herd gathered and locked in their pen before they go.
They seem like they will not leave until then.
