Hali Silverforge |
Will wait and see if anyone has any buffs for me that might affect the next turn before writing it up. Plan is to knock the nearest devil on the head, but could also swing around to help Thael if needed. Hali still has a ridiculous move speed right now

Thael Silverstep |
Hey guys, we have both devils half-way dead, I'm sure. Let's focus on Red and ignore Blue.
Thael looks surprised to see the bearded devil appear next to him.
"Nice trick...I can do that one, too!" he says and suddenly appears ten feet away. Using Shift as swift action
His summoned big cat continues to strike the back of the red devil, this time hitting it.
Thael casts haste on the assembled group. Should have used this earlier...HASTE IS UP EVERYONE!

Swift action to Shift, move action to move 30', standard action to cast haste.
Jag Koszonommonsk |
"You don't get to hurt anyone else," Jag growls at the closest devil, ignoring the gaavs as he claws the devil repeatedly.

Ishingka Thulkarian |
Ishingka picks up her cold iron hammer and swings at the blue devil...twice.
Rage, Power Attack, Haste, Arcane Strike: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

"Back to Hell with you, privy-licker!" she snarls.
Hali Silverforge |
so that settles what everyone else is doing. Which devils are still standing?

Hali Silverforge |
Arileth is stable. Killing devils seems more likely to help Jag's vitality than casting a spell that will disipate as soon as one of us attack a devil. OTOH, it would give us a chance to heal and buff. Only worth doing if we all stop fighting after I cast, and seems like a waste of Thael's haste. My opinion.

The remaining gaav teleports away.

Tae |
Tae stands stunned for a moment, tears streaming down his face... "That was SO hard! Why is this always so HARD?" he says as the glowing whip of spiders in his hand winks out of existence a few moments later...
Cinders, his cat, walks over to Arileth and licks her a few times, trying to comfort her, curls up by her side... Tae joins her at Arileth's side, though he doesn't lay down, he kneels there, shakes her gently... "Oh she's really hurt... can anyone help her?"
Jag Koszonommonsk |
Jag, frustrated, snaps his longspear over his knee as the last gaav goes away. "ARGH!" he shouts at the now-vacant space, unable to put his anger into words.
Ignoring his own wounds, he moves to Ussur, slowly, his heart forcing the cruelest of hopes onto him despite his mind knowing that the blood seeping from the bear clearly marks a mortal wound.
Th maelstrom of false hope and cold logical assessment running through his mind force him to his knees next to the dead bear. He slams his fist into the ground until he can't feel it anymore, hoping the physical trauma can lessen the strain on his mind and his heart.
It doesn't.
One thought keeps finding itself at the forefront of Jag's mind, seemingly accompanied by the unpleasant sting of tears hitting open cuts.
...he died because of me...

"Who can 'eal Arileth? Anyone 'ave a wand er a potion?"
-Posted with Wayfinder
Ishingka Thulkarian |
Ishingka drops her rage, grimacing, her eyes wet. "They will pay for this. All of them," she says, walking toward Arileth and gently cradling her head while she tips a potion back into the cleric's mouth.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Wordlessly, she pulls out a healing wand and hands it to Hali. "I've another potion. But I don't have enough rage in this bleeding world to bring Ussur back. Those hellspawned bastards, I'll see them flayed for this."
Ishingka Thulkarian |
Ish is currently fatigued and under a Medium load, for the next minute and a half...
And her wand is full of 50 charges, so let's use 'em up...
Ishingka sighs, still sitting with Arileth. All of her usual joking with the Calistrian has fled as she wipes blood away. "These devils have to be stopped. They are in too great numbers, and possess too much power, just to be satisfied with Arwyll's Stead. Who the bleeding b$$##+~s knows why they chose to strike here, but they'll roll over every town in a dozen miles if we don't crush them here."
Arileth |
Arileth groans as her eyes flutter open. She jerks upright, taking in the sight around her. The elven cleric slowly relaxes as she realizes that their enemies are defeated; as she notices Jag kneeling next to Ussur's motionless body, her expression sinks. "I didn't make it in time...." she murmurs to herself.
The cleric slowly rises to her feet, looking around to take stock of the others' wounds. "Who is injured still?"

Vegazi quietly comes out from where sbe was hiding "No...no Ishingka they came for me. I know what is happening. My mother seeks to collect me to fulfill a deal. As long as I stay here...more will die just so I don't have to. Come on. Lets go to see my mother. We can hand me over and that will save everyone" she presents her words with a quiet resolve.
This has clearly been the thing heavy on her mind this whole time as she looks at the floor in shame

Thael Silverstep |
Thael frowns at the result of the combat.
"I am sorry for your loss, Jag," he says.
Accessing their situation, the wizard recommends they take a rest.
"I expended most of my spells on that extended battle. I will not be able to contribute like that a second time," he says.
Jag Koszonommonsk |
Jag, barely able to hear through his own sobbing, nods to Thael without turning his head back to the party.
"Resting sounds nice," he hoarsely whispers, his voice conveying little expectation that he could possibly sleep. "I can't fight like this." He turns to show a mud-smeared face from wiping tears with dirty hands. "And Vegazi doesn't get to sacrifice herself," he adds flatly, tears again starting to form at the corners of his eyes as he averts his gaze.
"No more," he tacks on, barely a whisper. "No more," he repeats, silently.
A night's rest sounds good, both physically and emotionally for Jag. Tough day. Mourn and move on, for the purposes of the game, but it'll stick with him awhile.
Ishingka Thulkarian |
"We didn't fight this hard to give you over, Vegazi. Arileth, we are all injured. Some more than others." She lays a comforting huge hand on the valiant gnome. "Ussur fought well, Jag. That beast was a better warrior than more two-legged creatures I know."
She dusts herself off and winces at the oozing infernal wounds on her frame. "Aye, rest. Where? Not near the village, and not too far from here. We'll set a watch. I hope they can't summon reinforcements that quickly."
Arileth |
"Hand me that wand, Hali," she asks. Assuming he does so, she uses the wand to heal everyone to full health.
Arileth:
Wand of Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Wand of Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Wand of Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Wand of Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Wand of Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Hali:
Wand of Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Wand of Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Ishingka:
Wand of Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Wand of Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Wand of Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Jag:
Wand of Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Wand of Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Wand of Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Wand of Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Wand of Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Wand of Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
I believe that's everyone that was injured, based on the last initiative order post. 16 charges total.
Jag Koszonommonsk |
"Thanks," Jag mutters, despondent but honest to both Ishingka and Arileth. "I can keep watch. I don't expect to get much sleep tonight anyway."
GM Eddv |
I actually forgot - though this LIKELY won't matter for much other than the exact extent to which you plow through your resources, I need caster level checks (DC 16) on all of the healing that has been provided so far to people who had bleed counters on them. Until that DC is hit, they won't heal - keep track of the bleed. In a particularly unlucky scenario one or more of you could potentially bleed to death so its important we do this.
If anyone other than arileth can use a wand that would be really helpful too since every time you fail to heal one person is another round the others bleed.
And Arileth if you want to use your personal healing/bursts instead of the wand for the better cl I would allow you to retcon that. Otherwise wands are all CL1 so you'll make these checks at 1d20+1.
Presuming the healing still goes off without incident....
After a somber remembrance for Jag is held, the group makes their way out of the caves. Vegazi somberly leads the way. Despite your words of reassurance, grim determination still colors her features. She looks and feels very much like a woman on death row.
She volunteers to stay up with Jag. Helping him tend to a fire but otherwise remains silent.
You stop early despite the fact that your destination - a lone peak that juts out from the plateau here - is within a couple hours walk.
She gives Jag a hug and tears stream down her face This is all my fault...
---
The night passes without incident since the GM doesnt really want to run a potential random encounter and the next morning the group faces their destination. As your group arrives. Bax will be here somewhere - she is the most loyal daughter to mother. She will be defending her to the death no matter what. She and mother together will be very dangerous foes. This is your last chance to turn back. Please let me go on by myself. I will die as was mother's plan and you and the whole village will be safe. Go! For the first time since you met her Vegazi's voice carries something akin to conviction and a raw emotion as her frustration is clearly boiling over.
---
I'll give another few hours or so for roleplaying and final decision on this (though you seem to have already made it).
Arileth |
Wand of cure light wounds caster level check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Channel positive energy caster level check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 1) = 11
Arileth activates Ishingka's wand of curing on herself and frowns as she notices that, while the wand did heal her somewhat, two particular wounds continued to weep blood more than was warranted. When it becomes evident that the wounds caused by the devils continue to bleed, Arileth murmurs a short prayer to Calistria and lightly touches the birthmark on her abdomen. It briefly flares with yellow light, and a wave of healing energy washes over the party, closing the wounds that continued to weep blood even after healing. After having done this, she goes back to using the wand to heal everyone completely.
Keeping the same rolls as before, it should only take 10 charges after the channeled energy.
Ishingka Thulkarian |
"Vegazi. What can you tell us about Bax's and your mother's strengths and weaknesses?" Ishingka speaks the way one would to a full-blooded orc; bluntly. There is sadness in the half-orc's voice, though. "Don't give up your life." Ishingka scowls and snarls after her first soft supplication. "Don't give up your damned life, Vegazi. That's not what orcs do. We die fighting. And I intend to let them die fighting, personally."
Jag Koszonommonsk |
Despite his misgivings, a bit of sleep does find Jag overnight after he buries his bear. Despite the loss, the pain, the grief, the following morning sees a sunrise all the same.
Giving up now would dishonor his name.
-----
When Vegazi mentions sacrificing herself, Jag buts in, "Ishingka's right. There's been enough loss," Jag speaks as if choking on a lump in his throat. "These orcs have taken one friend from me. They will not take another. We fight."
Tae |
Tae goes to bed morosely that night, depressed over the loss of Ussur. sometime during the night, Cinders goes over to the sleeping Jag, sensing his overwhelming sadness and loss and curls up next to the gnome, purring softly until he, too, falls asleep. Tae sleeps alone that night, something he's not used to. His rest is fitful and uneasy.
GM Eddv |

Ishingka Thulkarian |
Ishingka goes through morning exercises and a prayer to Sinashakti, although her mood is not light and full of humor this morn. After some swings with the long hammer, she feels a bit better. "So, we didn't come across any silver weapons this evening, did we. Gods, we are stupid for not searching for some. Anyhow, Vegazi. What can we expect from your mum and her little friend? How do we hit 'em hardest?"
Tae |
"I... I do have a few silver tipped arrows, but they are very small and I have trouble hitting things that people are already fighting... " Tae says softly... "If someone else wants to use them, I'd be happy to distribute them to those that can hit with 'em."
Ishingka Thulkarian |
Jag has mithral weapons...they count as silver. I sure hope we counted that in the last fight! Ish can shoot arrows, although it's a waste of her strength...
"Let me ponder that, Tae...I'm best with claws and a hammer," says Ishingka mildly. "Thank you."
Jag Koszonommonsk |
Yep, Jag's weapons are silvered for DR purposes. Well, the claw, at least.
"I'm at my best when I'm too close for arrows. And after what they did to Ussur, to Arwyll's Stead, to us..." Jag trails off, leaving unpleasant thoughts unsaid.
Hali Silverforge |
Before going to bed, Hali pats Jag on the shoulder. Not being much of an animal person, he's a little unsure what to say at first.
"Uh... 'e was th' best bear I've ever seen. I'm sorry, lad."
Hali's warhammer is silvered. Unfortunately he does not currently have a way to make anyone else's weapons silvered.

"Protection from arrows, and a savage fighter...well, we are fairly well versed at keeping fighters at bay, Hali and I--if anyone can scare up some wind or shields, that can spoil Mother Dear's rain of death upon us." Ishingka frowns. 'Anyone else have ideas?"

Vegazi leads the group to a single spire of rock just inside the borders of the Hold of Belkzen. As you make your way to this mount and turn the corner a gray skinned woman with horns and a tail and a wicked mask stands side by side with a hellhound, watching you.
