"Well, no--" began the cultist, and this time the interruption was in the form of a fist that knocked him flat. "In that case, I'll be going. Tell Lama whoever thanks for the gifts, but as we know, a gift with an obligation is no gift at all." With that, Ishingka left the alley and headed home.

Ishingka had inherited a fair amount of her mother's unearthly beauty, although no talent for the harp, and not a small amount of her father's doughty strength. She found them tuning up harp and polishing weapons, ready to perform for the nobility. "Papa, Mama, I think demonic cultists are looking for me. They said I'm demon-touched." "Well! Some fellow in Belkzen--or in Taldor--must have done something very improper a few hundred years ago," said her father. "It's probably your side," chided her mother, "Why, that uncle of--" At that moment, a dozen cultists sprang into their apartment. A few minutes later, covered in the blood of a dozen cultists, her parents beamed at their daughter. "Marvellous gifts indeed! Why, I've missed the excitement of melee. Praise Sinashakti!" said her father. "Take care you clean your claws and hands, dear," said her mother, "Oh bother, we'll have to change again."
