GM Eddv |
Grev shakes his head Adil? No that's Wate's father! But...if Wate is dead and Vegazi has been to the town...oh no! That could be trouble Her mother is some kind of pact witch, deriving her powers from a dark deal made with devils, back in the day the Hell's Fury Tribe wasn't anything to worry about but under her leadership...
Grev collects his notes and begins to rush out the door.
Let's go sort things out
---
The group of you heads off back for Arwyll's stead where Grev goes and meets with Proum and Vegazi and begins to try and explain things.
About halfway through this meeting someone pulls the mayor out and he comes back.
I think we have to put this down on lockdown. No one in or out for any reason. There have been a lot of strange things happening about town since you left - we suspect invisible devils. So we just have to shut everything down and wait out this invasion. Travelers I am sorry, but you'll just have to wait here.
Hali Silverforge |
"I wasn't going anywhere anyway. What invisible devils?"
-Posted with Wayfinder
Thael Silverstep |
Thael nods in understanding. "I think we have proven that we are here to help without the lockdown. Regardless, tell us what leads you have. We will investigate."
GM Eddv |
There have been a number of disturbances - the biggest one is at the library! Proum exclaims Apparently there is some sort of disturbance over there, but I am swamped with the defenses. Perhaps you could go?
Tae |
"I'm sure we could look into that for you." Tae turns to his companions. "Sound okay to you?"
Jag Koszonommonsk |
"A hero's work is never done," Jag says with misplaced enthusiasm. "Besides, if there's invisible devils, Ussur will smell them coming. Maybe."
GM Eddv |
Well.... I am not really sure. Something about the stocking girl doing weird things but given the state of things...people suspect devils. Maybe go there yourself and find out?
Assuming you do so, you head over to the library you hear the sounds of maddening shuffling as you walk in as one of the town elders watches helplessly as the a blue haired gnome woman that works there moves wildly.
Books, scrolls, and arcane miscellanies litter this expansive, cylindrical library. Floor-to-ceiling shelves cover the walls of the three-story repository, and a few hallways branch off to other chambers. Chairs, couches, and other furniture are positioned throughout the room, except in its very center, where several stacked piles of tomes have been precariously assembled.
Oh no, that book goes there, not there. No that's not it either The little gnome carries another stack of items, more than it could even comfortably carry and begins to search through them.
Tae |
"Oooh, I like this place.. it looks interesting!"
Thael Silverstep |
"Excuse me," Thael says to the gnome. "We are here to help resolve any problems the library might be having. We heard something about the stocking girl. Could you tell us what is happening?"

"Can't one of you blighters detect magic here? She could be possessed or something," hisses the tall half-orc in a decent library whisper. Ishingka keeps her hammer in its sling. "This is not a good place to fight...we'll knock everything down and burn it down. If there's something in here, we should draw it out."
Jag Koszonommonsk |
"Let's not claim the pretty lady is crazy just because she's trying to climb to the ceiling," Jag says, flashing a smile at the librarian gnome. "What exactly are you trying to find?"
GM Eddv |
Ishingka notices the master librarian, Gallus Crevak, the proprietor looking over the stacks...
Dear lord...nearly all of these books belong to my collection on Diabolism - which Lilli had never shown an interest in before. What is she doing - this girl has gone daft , she just started running around the archive grabbing these items almost indiscriminately.
GM Eddv |
You are picking up an aura of enchantment coming from the subject.
“These books,” she cries, motioning to the dozens of books on Hell and its agents, as if this statement says it all. “This book!” she practically screams, gripping a compendium of devilkind before tossing it on top of one of the piles. She mutters something about “green eyes” as she calmly continues her task.
Ishingka Thulkarian |
"Right, there's something here, then." Ishingka prowls around. "Can anyone help her get out of that spell? All I can do is yell at her--that won't help."
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Arileth |
Arileth's attention is drawn back to the problem at hand by Ishingka's prowling. "Right," she says. She intones a prayer for protection to Calistria, and the dagger-and-wheel shaped birthmark by her navel briefly flares with yellowish light.
Casting protection from evil on the gnome.
Thael Silverstep |
"She is under the influence of some kind of enchantment. We will need to figure out how to release her without harming her," Thael says.
GM Eddv |
Casting protection from evil on the gnome has seemed to do nothing to stop her pain.
She looks over at your gratefully but she suddenly winces and moves back to the books muttering something about green eyes - her face darting in a particular direction Perception checks please

The green eyes creature, who is invisible but not truly hiding continues to feed books to Lilli and cracks the whip causing her pain any time she slows down.
Tae |
"Somethings with green eyes - invisible, except for the eyes apparently is handing books to the girl and using a whip to cause her pain everytime she slows down... anyone have any idea what it might be and how to stop it?" Tae has no 'knowledge planes' but maybe someone else does?
Thael Silverstep |
Thael tries to determine where the creature is, and once satisfied he has pinpointed the location, casts glitterdust. DC 19 Will

Tae will move forward and aid Thael's attack however he can.
aid Thael's attack with helpful halfling trait, dc 10: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
that gives Thael +4 to hit on his next attack on the thing.
Thael Silverstep |
Wouldn't it be better to aid a melee character? I won't be hitting it and don't have many attack spells that need a dice roll. ALSO, wouldn't that be my action for this round? Or was that a surprise round?
Jag Koszonommonsk |
I think I got left off the list...?
"That's what's controlling the lovely lady? I expected something less shiny," Jag remarks. "Ussur! he shouts, pointing at the shimmering devil; the bear begins his charge seems before the words are fully spoken.

Tae |
sorry that was supposed to be 'aid Ishingka'... i just got a little confused. heh. but it might be a moot point with Jag's attacks in there.
GM Eddv |
oops yeah, left Jag off the list. Thael, that was your surprise round

Ishingka springs into action, roaring as black talons sprout from her fingertips. She claws at the devil, looking mighty infernal herself. Or Abyssal.
I assume going Large in the library would be difficult...sounds like a place full of narrow stacks of books...
GM Eddv |
And that's that
The creature, before it can even react to being blinded is crushed by Jag, Ussur and Ishingka and falls to pieces on the floor.
Instantly, Lilli is roused from her stupor and begins to clen her mess as the Archivist makes his way to you, offering a boon
Thank you so much for your help - but I wonder what he was even trying to accomplish? Take this - you might find it useful He hands over a Page of Spell Knowledge, Level 1 which any of the spontaneous casters can use to learn an extra level spell.
As the party makes it's way back to the inn, they are stopped by Terrin who pulls them aside into a private alleyway.
So, I take it by now, you have heard that Proum chose to shut the gates - this is a real problem because I had planned to go back out there to find my scouts, since I assume you didn't find them on your journey either. No one here wants to defy Proum and I don't really want to undermine his authority given how tenuous the political situation is here but...
Terrin looses a key and drops it This might come in handy if you wanted to escape the city walls and go find my crew anyway. There is an old door outside the Arwyll manse - the storm cellar. This key will get you in and there is a tunnel that will lead you out. I hear that no one watches that area in the early morning...
Ishingka Thulkarian |
"The gates won't matter to devils that can teleport or fly anyhow," says Ishingka to Terrin. She looks at the group. "But what is our plan? Keep trying to find those scouts, or stay and defend? I suppose offense is best. I am rather good at being offensive." She chuckles with exposed tusks at the last comment.
Don't we need to know what the spell is on the page?
GM Eddv |
You would think? but it is written in as a generic item, so feel free to use it on whatever spell you like, since I believe youre the only spontaneous caster in this crew
Tae |
Tae is also a spontaneous caster...
GM Eddv |
Well by all means, decide who gets to use it among yourselves
Thael Silverstep |
Thael nods as Terrin gives them the key.
"I agree we should support Proum as much as possible. But this might be an extra help if we could find them. Perhaps we have found our next plan for tonight," the wizard says.
GM Eddv |
Go ahead and get a good night's rest....
Then level up.
