Awww... Let me get back to you. I'm at a convention this weekend, and may get to play it.

An announcement from the PaizoCon Organizing Committee:

Hi everyone!
PaizoCon 2023 will have Play by Post (PbP) games again this year, which means the call for PBP Game Masters is also on. This includes both Play by Discord and Play by Forum.
Starts: May 29, 2023 and with a hard cutoff of 6 weeks for all games.

▶ To apply
Please fill in the Volunteer Application Form >>https://forms.gle/NKRKs5FyKCq1wmio9<<

"I have previously applied for VTT GM, what should I do?
No problem. Please email the PaizoCon Organizing Committee paizoorgplayhq@gmail.com that you want to GM PbP (Forum/Discord) and the number of tables you want to GM. You can also find the email in the beginning of the form / at the blog.

Once the committee has processed everyone's applications, you will get an email for the next steps.

Thank you and see you there!

p.s.: The PaizoCon VTT GM application is still open. You can submit it too, if you haven't.

When will we know if we've been selected or for sure what blocks to run. I know this is a while from now, but hopefully this will be longer than a one week notice for us to prepare, not just prepare for the scenario, but to also make sure we don't make plans during that day. Like make plans on May 30th cause someone finds out he/she is only dming on the 29th and 31st, might be hard to do if it was only a week notice.

Venture Lieutenant, Play by Post (online)

Thank you to everyone who expressed their thoughts on the lodge headers, both publicly and privately. I've put those ideas together and put something together. If you find it doesn't work, please let me know.

To my understanding, they're supposed to start emailing out assignments starting March 1st.

Just to be clear, I don't need to fill in the tracking form if the game's a "private" game (i.e. not advertised openly in the Recruitment forums)?

Can I still register a game for Outpost if I'm not requesting scenario support?

Do I just fill out the GM registration form as if I had thought about this more than a week from the beginning of the convention?

Assuming it's like all previous cons, you should be able to. I did that last time.

Yes.

So back to Bounties: I like to use them for four reasons:

1) At in person gaming conventions as a way of drawing in new gamers / families with kids, etc, and get them to try out Pathfinder 2.

2) To test out a new character - not just a mechanical build, but their voice as well. Do I feel good roleplaying them? What is their personality? I'd rather correct problems at Level 1 than have a character that becomes unplayable for me because I cannot get a grasp of who they are.

3) To try out new players and GMs. A lot of PBP games are recruited privately, and it would be easy to keep playing with the same people over and over. But with a publicly recruited bounty, I can find out if there are new GMs or players that I enjoy playing with. (And if I don't enjoy playing with someone, the experience is mercifully short.) A bounty will let me find new friends.

4) To even out my experience points if I've GMed at a Convention and left one of my GM Babies with uneven XP.

★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★

They're also good as a starting point for new GMs learning the system. That said, I think our ratio of bounties to full scenario offerings is too high. That's why I'm glad that we have conventions that encourage the offering of full scenarios, and help to mix us up with new people.

I hadn't thought about that, though from what I understand it is 6 bounties to 1 level vrs 3 scenarios to 1 level? Am I understanding that right? And I didn't realize they were repeatable. I have some I've had but have not run yet for PFS.

Also, your 3rd point isn't something I was all that aware of and that is a GREAT point that I'd love to try at a later time. Thanks for the feedback!

Not quite right.

It is four bounties to a normal scenario. The bounties are intended to last about an hour, while a scenario is expected to take between 4 and 5 hours.

Bounties give 1 XP, Scenarios give 4 XP.

It takes 12 XP to level.

While we have more bounties than regular scenarios, they play so much faster they create a "feel" for more time.

I suspect if you looked at the XP and time put in, we would still be weighted toward scenarios.

And most bounties are only level 1, so as folks characters level up, there is less interest in them.

I have one character who I've purposefully played as a bounty hunter (if you will pardon the expression) - partially to get a feel for the bounties and partially because I much prefer low level play.

Bounties are short, sweet and fun. If you know you are going on holiday in a couple of weeks, you probably don't want to sign up for a scenario, but most bounties will finish well within that time.

Yeah, the one-shots to try out a new character and to field out players for potential home-brews are both great ideas. I was on the fence about getting some of the bounties for trying out DMed games. I'll have to do some math and see how long it takes to run some of those bounties, may try that going forward.

I’m finding scenarios are really trimmed these days and 3-3.5 hours is the norm.

"Doom Girl" // ♫ // ◇ ◈ ↺ // PbP Events // // PbP GM Kit // Salt of the Ocean // ★ DA Duology Maps

There are four scenarios in the current season that run pretty long, but I think they've started correcting that!

On that topic, do Outpost games get reported there?

"Doom Girl" // ♫ // ◇ ◈ ↺ // PbP Events // // PbP GM Kit // Salt of the Ocean // ★ DA Duology Maps

Nope, because OutPost games are tracked separately. However if you did (like I did) a pre-OutPost game with players recruited here for OutPost, then you would count it on the reporting above.

She probably means the B10 I ran which came dangerously close to Outpost. :)

Nope.

She is running two of the Dark Archive case files as part of Outpost.

Once we had the group together and ready, she decided to do a different DA case file before Outpost started with the players she would have in Outpost.

"Doom Girl" // ♫ // ◇ ◈ ↺ // PbP Events // // PbP GM Kit // Salt of the Ocean // ★ DA Duology Maps

Yeah, I do that a lot, since usually online play is scarce before a convention, and I run fast. Come to think of it, I did that for the very first PBP game I GMed for PBP Gameday IV. We were going to do Overflow Archives, but we all were revved to play, so I asked everyone if they wanted to do a fast bonus scenario right before the convention started.

Someone suggested 'Risen from the Sands' because it was free... OMG, that was a TERRIBLE adventure. But we had an absurd amount of fun with it, and we managed to finish it right before the convention was due to start.

Run fast is putting it mildly. It's practically a VTT game at times. I'm beginning to dread getting up in the mornings :)

For the record. I was kidding (note smiley face).

GM Hmm runs a tight ship and it is a distinct pleasure to be playing in her game. I happen to be in a different time-zone as the rest of the players, so a lot of stuff goes down while I'm asleep. The first thing I do when I get up is check to see what new mess we've gotten ourselves into. I have yet to be disappointed. It is then up to my Jayma to clean things up.

Prilla is a pixie sprite cosmic oracle with Evanescent Wings. At what level of curse would enable her to use those wings to fly as she gets lighter. If so, what would be the flight movement speed?

It would not unless a feature specifically granted a Fly Speed.

That's exactly what I'm planning on doing. Maybe the wings won't be helping with flight but they might provide stability - besides, a pixie with flapping wings looks more normal.
