I'm pretty sure if this is GM credit, the scenario gold/credits is calculated based on the character you are giving credit to, not the level the scenario was run at. Otherwise it would be too easy to load up credits/gold on low level characters who were assigned a chronicle from a high level table.

I just finished GMing a pbp game of a 5-8 scenario that was played in low tier. I wish to assign this to a PC of seventh level. Does that PC get high tier or out of tier gold?
Want to make sure I get this right.
GM chronicles are based on the assigned character not on what the table did. So your 7th level character receives a chronicle appropriate for 7th level.

And in keeping with GM Numbat's phrasing, any boons on the chronicle (from older season scenarios) are available to the GM's character regardless of the players' actions that may have denied them certain boons. In those situations where there are two mutually exclusive boons (e.g. You get one for saving the numbats, or a different one for saving their mortal enemies the drop bears), the GM may choose which boon they get, again not based on what the table did.
I'm sure phaeton knew this, just adding to the discussion in case someone new to GMing reads it.

Please take a look at the Blog link below as it has a few changes for Starfinder as Year 4 kicks off. Namely a new ship as well as the Max table cap has been set to 6 Players.
Ceolor Xusha |
I've been trying to play Ceolor here through all of the Scoured Stars storyline, and was wondering if anyone here would be willing to run of of the mid/high level scenarios from it.
In particular I'd love to find a table of:
#1-17: Reclaiming the Time-Lost Tear
#1-31: Treading History's Folly
or #1-34: Heart of the Foe
I'd be down to GM trade as well, but after PaizoCon Europe in August.
Shokil |
I'd be up for playing 1-34 and 1-17 - though I already have GM credits for them, I've not played them.
XperimentalDM |
I also be willing to run any of those I've played but not run 1-17 and 1-34 and wouldnt mind getting a change to put them on one of ym earlier characters

Please join us in welcoming Bigrin as the new PbP VA for the Roll for Combat Discord lodge!
We also want to thank Stephen (Stonesnake) for his outstanding service and hard work getting the Roll for Combat Play-By-Discord Lodge into the wonderful community it is today!
Farol |
Hey Ceolor, I would also be interested in playing those scenarios with my Hellih. I am fine with cross GM'ing as well, so GM'ing one and play two others. Especially since my android is currently is Shifty's game that just started so most likely will be busy for the next... two weeks (probably 1.5 month) :P
p.s.
Congrats Bigrin!

I could still use credit for 1-17 Reclaiming the Time-Lost Tear. Once Nomadical is almost done running 1-31 Treading History's Folly contact me and we can probably arrange something.
I do need to finish up before we can no longer spend fame though.

I have a Mechanic ('Flush' Gurdon) or a Fashion Designer Soldier/Envoy mix Icon (Jimaa Whitehorn) that could do both Reclaiming (1-17) and Treading (1-31). Both are L7. Both scenarios are left 'to play'.
I can try to provide resources and materials for running 1-34 Work schedule being the way it is I cannot in good conscience commit to running it, unfortunately.

In case my player-aspect was unclear, to clarify I am willing to purchase for a GM what is needed for a GM to run 1-34 and provide other things I've come up with along the way running it.
In no way, shape, or form was it going to be illicit/illegally obtained material.

Gameday X Announcement has just been posted. GM's please go ahead and begin submitting the games you would like to run.

As promised, I've opened Recruiting for a run of #1-31 Treading History's Folly. Recruitment page is here.
Preference being given to Ceolor Xusha, Wei Ji the Learner, and Farol if they’re still interested based on their posts above.
Yeah, yeah, I know, this is the Discussion thread. But this is also the thread where I offered to run it based on Ceolor Xusha's request, so I'm closing the loop on it here.

I commented in the Discussion of the Campaign -- I'd done some checking of my old notes from before my old computer fried.
Scoured Stars Done:
1-05 The First Mandate (1-4)
1-11 In Pursuit of the Scoured Past (3-6)
1-13 On the Trail of History (3-6)
1-31 Treading History's Folly (3-6)
1-34 Heart of the Foe (3-6)
1-29 Honorbound Emissaries (7-10)
Scoured Stars Left to do
1-17 Reclaiming the Time-Lost Tear (5-8)
1-39 The Herald's War (7-10)
Apologies for the confusion, and thank you for the consideration GM Nomadical!
This does NOT change my offer for the ones I *do* need to play (1-17, 1-39).

From the Season 3 Guild Guide, p. 40, as part of the Capstone Boon section:
SEASON BOON (YEAR OF SCOURED STARS)
Throughout the course of the first season of the Starfinder Society (Starfinder Society Scenarios #1–01 to #1–39), players have the chance to collect several unique boons relating to the primary storyline associated with the season. These boons, titled “Journey to the Scoured Stars: Segments 1–8,” each contribute to a single Capstone boon associated with Season 1. Any player can purchase this boon if they meet the prerequisites listed below. A player’s possession of Journey to the Scoured Stars segment boons can be across multiple PCs, but a specific numbered segment counts only once toward the player’s total number of segment boons. (emphasis added)
Year of the Scoured Stars (Slotless Boon)
Prerequisites: All Factions Tier 3; at least four of the Journey to the Scoured Stars segment boons
Cost: 8 Fame (24 on subsequent purchases)
Benefit: When you select this boon for a character, pick one of the following to apply to your character immediately:
• You gain 1 extra Resolve Point. If you’ve collected all eight segments, then this increases to 2 Resolve Points.
• You gain 1 extra Hit Point for every character level you have. If you have collected all eight segments, then this increases to 2 Hit Points for every level you have.
• You can select a single saving throw (Fortitude, Reflex, or Will) and increase your bonus to that save by 1. If you have collected six or seven segments, then you can select one of the remaining two saves to increase, and if you’ve collected all eight segments, then you instead increase all your saves by 1.
• If you’ve collected all eight segments, then you can increase one of your ability scores that is currently 16 or lower by 2.
Special: When you first apply this boon to a character, it costs 8 Fame. You can apply this boon only once to a given character.
Subsequent purchases of this boon for different characters cost 24 Fame.
phaeton_nz |
I did that with one of my PCs who had all eight.
Wait a minute ... it looks like I can do that to any of my PCs even though it was only a few who were collecting the segments.
*ponders*
Is that right?

As long as the character receiving the boon meets the requirements, you can apply this boon to as many of them as you'd like.
Prerequisites: All Factions Tier 3; at least four of the Journey to the Scoured Stars segment boons
Cost: 8 Fame (24 on subsequent purchases)
- You (player) have 4+ Journey to the Scoured Stars segment boons
- The character meets the All Factions Tier 3 reputation requirement as described in the Starfinder Society Guide to Organized Play (25+)- The character spends 8 fame (24 for those after the first)
After that, go for it! I've personally decided that I don't want to use the boon on all of my characters; only those for whom it makes sense story-wise. But that doesn't mean that you can't! :)

I did it for that PC for story reasons too since she had done the whole thing to rescue her family. May do it for her sister who was stuck behind the Scoured Stars as well.
DoubleGold |
Um, if anyone did get 24 fame with all of their characters before fame was no longer handed out, that is quite an accomplishment. Unless that person had very few characters.

Most characters could have gotten that much fame and reputation before they hit level 6. With SFS having been around since 2017, it's possible some people have several options.
Also remember that "All Factions" means your total reputation, adding them up from all the different factions, as per the guide. It doesn't mean that you need 25 reputation with each individual faction.

We may or may not ever see the results of any reported event. Sometimes the campaign is affected quickly, other times something will affect a scenario in a later season. The reporting information is there to be pulled by the development team when and if they desire.

More great news on the horizon! There is a new class coming to Starfinder and could use your help being playtested. Go to the link to the blog on the Evolutionist Class!
Once the rules for the Evolutionist are released you can participate in the Playtest as a PbP Game. Just keep in mind that your game will need to make a decent pace as the the Playtest will end on Sept 24th and your Survey will need to be in by that date.

I've enjoyed see these posts before, they gave me hope. Hopefully y'all get some joy out of it as well!
We recently completed a PbP run of the entire Dead Suns adventure path that started way back in 2018! Here's some stats and stories from our last three years together.
Mode: Campaign mode
Rules: SFS rules but all races are allowed and characters can have a free rebuild between books to incorporate new options.
Recruitment method: 3 were adopted from a different campaign that met an early end. 3 were found during an open non-random recruitment call (they had all previously GM'd for me, the choice was easy.)
Duration: Three years and two months
Book Length: We were running on a tight 6 month schedule (conveniently, not intentionally) up until the last book where we took our sweet time.
Gameplay posts: 4756
Discussion posts: 1287
Players: 5/6 players made it through all six books. (One dropped out in Book 4 due to real life issues)
Classes: melee Solarian, grappling Soldier, half-dead Envoy, experimental weapon Mechanic, ghost Operative (that's right, no magic after we lost our technomancer in book 4!)
Obstacles: This group made it through a global pandemic, the great Paizo server shut downs, multiple players moving between continents, changing jobs, babies being born, and every day life!
I loved the Dead Suns AP, it had a great overview of the Starfinder system with a decent foot into the different settings across science fiction.
The toughest boss: Boss of book 1. Easily. It's right up their from the infamous minotaur in PFS' The Confirmation in my book.
Easiest boss: Boss of book 3
My favorite book: Book 4
Most unique book: Book 2
My favorite NPC: Waneda Trux, the ghoul office worker from Book 3. I absolutely love the personalities of eoxians and hers was so great.
My least favorite NPC: Literally any Devourer Cult member. Describing their insanity got old real fast.
My favorite items: The artifacts just before the end of Book 6
My least favorite plot point: The gangs and companies in Book 1 never come back! Also, the "package" from Book 1 doesn't come back.
The ending of the AP was suitably epic and very fitting. It wasn't surprising, but it was perfect. I definitely recommend this AP for folks who want to get into Starfinder or who want a standard experience. It's not super unique, can get a little railroad-ey, but it is a great time!
Lenny the human solarian: Our friendly neighborhood human owned a pirate themed gym. He wasn't so good at business, but was great at adventuring. My favorite moment was when he returned to his gym after a few books of travelling across space to find his assistant manager had changed just about everything about the place.
Pippimi the skittermander soldier: This skittermander was a diehard company employee, and every time she got a promotion or marketed a new product to her foes it was my new favorite. This blue ball of death would get a horizontal promotion or attempt to sell a grenade design to a crimelord and I loved it every time.
Z45179 the android mechanic: Our android was the very typical unemotional robot friend but my very favorite moment was quite sweet. At the end of the adventure, when we were wrapping up, the android was content. And his favorite possession, the custom rifle, was left unattended. It was a quiet and beautiful moment.
Zoran the borai envoy: This undead kasatha joined the church of pharasma. His conversion and follow-up visits the various temples where both moving and incredible character growth.
Davrin the halfling operative: This halfling, when he wasn't busy trick attacking the living daylights out of his enemies, had a very adult profession. Every time we entered a major city, or returned to Absalom Station, he made sure to find time for his customers. His PG-13 references to his profession were always a sure fire way to crack me up.
Clank the goblin technomancer: Our local tech brought his goblin culture in whenever possible and it brought us great entertainment without being disruptive. My favorite moment was when he summoned creatures and they came out as ghost goblins.

We did it! Without going into deep spoilers, GM Ewok really brought every character to life and often being the negotiator...it really allowed me to invest into every encounter. Between the NPC and my impressively role-played compatriots there were so many connections made the past few years.
I have never completed a run this long or completed an AP before this. It really goes to show how wonderful the players are here! You can do it too, if you enjoy your games with a player then reach out to them. Before you know it you will have a group that played multiple systems together, saved the universe, and transformed from fellow Star/Pathfinders into true friends!
Tyranius |
Great job Ewok! That is quite the feat.
The key to an AP run on here is definitely in the pacing. Players and GM's alike need to push the story through their actions and daily postings.
GM Ewok |
Thank you! It really takes a community (of 5-7 people) to make it happen. A story isn't made by just the GM, the players push the story forward and expand upon it through their posts. I benefited so much from some amazing players.
And I totally agree, we had several conversations on the pacing. One post a day makes 3 years go by fast, and consistency helps too.
GM Aerondor |
Really? I'd missed you could do that in 1ed.
I thought they got rid of society mode for APs.
Tyranius |

Neither have I. Basically with PFS1E there were some AP's that had a portion of the AP Books that were sanctioned off in a couple of ways.
The first way is that a select few of the APs had a smaller portion that you could play with strictly PFS Characters. THis was generally a Dungeon Crawl within the book.
The second and more common route was Campaign Mode, meaning that the GM could allow you to play with whatever non-Society characters you wanted and houserules. Once the book was completed you would receive a chronicle.
Either way you could only earn credit once as the GM and once as the Player similar to normal PFS rules.
