Everyone, We are aware of the logout issues and understand cause. The fix is in the last stages of development and should be ready for deployment in the next day or so.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,
Dean

Dean, I really appreciate that not only are you guys working hard on the fix, but you are also communicating with us about it frequently.

This is what I love about Paizo:

I come to the thread to whine about having to log in again, and shazzam! Staff have forestalled me

New issue for me:

When I click on focus I'm taken to what looks like someone else's focus page (a whole bunch of PBPs I've never looked at, some rules questions and so forth that I'm pretty sure I haven't read). I'm also not seeing any (x new) notifications, nor any dots.

When I then click on "messageboards" at the top, I'm returned to an unfocussed view of the forums with my dots and (x new) notifications showing again.

Thanks, Dean.

Do you have any information concerning the RSS/Atom feeds?

Totally agreed!

Not for whining, but juuuuust in case (as I know the fix was supposed to happen sometime around now) I just had to log in again, after making a post. First time it's happened to me since the previous fix.

You guys are awesome! I appreciate all your hard work! Thank you!

Same feeling here. I'm staying logged in again, so thanks.

Everyone,

The "fix" will be implemented later this morning (PST)... This should resolve multiple issues, one being the logout problem that has been frequently reported.. Steve's problem above might be a similar symptom but we will need to implement these changes first to see. tchrman35, The team will need to look further into that problem...

Any idea and the inability for some to not be able to report games or edit games in our events?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

So, firstly, thanks for the hard work. I know this isn't easy.

Thinky Thoughts On The Issue, of no real consequence...:
Secondly, I know you have your reasons, and I know this has been gone over (in answer to my own questions, even!) in other threads in the past, but I again must wonder aloud why "roll back to the previous stable version, identify and fix the issues, and then push the new version again" is not the standard course of action, here.

Maybe it's over two decades in the tech industry talking, but I am curious.

Not pointing fingers or saying you're doing a bad job (I am not and you are not), I'm just genuinely curious. I've done nearly 20 years in operations work, and six years of support of one stripe or another before that, so this feels like it should be standard procedure across the board.

I get that some issues only show up under load, and then only under the unique conditions that the patch being on the live server brings, but for the bulk of the issues, I can't see why this isn't done.

Again, I know you have your reasons. And I know that it's almost certainly policy not to discuss them. I'm just the kind of person who wants to help fix a problem if he can, and this sort of thing always gets my mind going.

It's all about priorities.

Let's call the site we had a month ago Codebase A. Codebase B—that first launch in this group—was designed to fix some high-priority issues in Codebase A. Unfortunately, it introduced some issues that were even higher priority than the things it fixed, so we did in fact roll back to Codebase A.

At that point, we're working on at Codebase C. We *could* keep Codebase A up while we ensure that Codebase C fixes *all* of the issues that Codebase B introduced... but that's going to take a while, and in the meantime, we're living without the high-priority fixes to Codebase A that Codebase B brought. So instead, we launched Codebase C after fixing primarily only the highest-priority issues that it introduced.

So we chose to live with code that would log people out way too much for a little while—which is annoying, but ultimately not terribly harmful—because it let us implement previous fixes to older, higher-priority problems faster than not doing so.

Urgency-based Resolution is often interesting this way. ^^ Personally, I'm satisfied with the knowledge that progress is being made, and appreciative of the hard work of everyone involved - there are always hiccups along the way, but I know Paizo has waaaaaay too much invested in the site to let it be troubled for too long, so I'm never too worried about it. XD

That actually answers pretty much all of my concerns about what was going on and why, and brother, I do not envy you that scenario. I've been in a multiple codebase scenario more times than I care to remember, and they are never, ever useful or easy.

More power to you all for taking care of it like you have.

So ... I got logged out again.

Has the underlying issue been fixed (and I just have a snowflake-special problem), or are we still waiting for the proper bug fix?

I'm also seeing the "new post" markers on threads with no posts since the last, but only if I was the last person to make the post, as of yesterday. I waited a day to report it just in case it was imaginary on my part.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

On occasion, I can click on a thread with, say, (2 new), then go back to Messageboards and it still says (2 new), although there are no new posts. Usually by the next time I go back to Messageboards, it's been marked read.

Also, one time I was editing the profile for a PbP character, submitted, and the change didn't show up, although when I clicked Edit again, my change was in the text. After I cancelled, the profile displayed my edited text.

I presume this has something to do with me getting called up by a different teller, in Gary's analogy, but I thought I'd mention it.

I have the same problem with Firefox. Incidentally those links are working on Pale Moon 27.0.6, which is what I'm currently using.

I've pushed an interim possible fix for the sessions logout issue while we figure out a better permanent solution. It has definitely logged everyone out BUT that should be the last time for awhile. Thanks for your patience on this one. It was not a solution I wanted to implement over the long weekend without being able to watch it extensively.

Ok I made a new event to report my events as it seemed like a decent work around.

New event made 158589.

I edited the schedule of games played to only Starfinder material.

When I hit report. I basically get every PFS scenario/AP/Module i could ever report on but not a single SFS scenario or AP.

So I re-edit event and deselect the SFS games to see of they add back in.

No Change.

TLDR
New Event made but still can't report SFS games (PFS seems viable)

There should be a dropdown menu below the dropdown for scenarios which allows you to select an organized play type. Does it appear when you navigate to the event reporting page? If so, does it change the contents of the scenario dropdown menu if you select different organized play types?

Hey it worked! I was logged in today when I came here. Thanks Lissa, Dean and everyone involved.

Also, seeing some speed improvements today, could be a result of Firefox's update.

I don't this drop down menu and went back and dug all over for it. I only have SFS material selected and only ALL of PFS still shows. I have not selected any PFS materiel for this event.

I came in via the google link, still no dice, the only link that's working is the Help/FAQ link.

If people are looking to shop at Paizo and they're using Firefox those are costumers you might be losing. I use a couple of web browsers so I can get in with Chrome

Well, that's the thing. I use firefox myself and am not seeing anything like that. I'll look further into it and see if I can see a reason.

Edit: OK. So I don't see any evidence of one of the things that might be. I want to ask for some more information. Are you possibly coming in on a proxy that you wouldn't be coming in on with chrome. Do you have any plugins enabled? Antivirus? Is Javascript disabled(though I don't know that that would cause the problem you are describing. Can you give it a go again and if you see that same pattern, please check your ip with something like https://www.whatismyip.com/ and can you PM that to me? Please don't include it in the post. Also, the rough time you tried it should help me immensely.

I tried again today, apparently there was a firefox update not long after I posted yesterday and I looked to see if it would work today but I still can't get in with Firefox.

I should add that I don't think I've ever added any plugins, 3rd party or otherwise, but Firefox is my default browser. Sounds like the problem is on my end in this case if you're not having issues.

This issue just recurred for me (it hasn’t happened between the seventh of November and now).

It’s no big deal as it’s short term and the unfocused view is fine in the meantime, but just to let you know it’s still happening.

Okay, figuring it was on my end I googled firefox support to see what they suggested doing, and long story short I completely cleared my firefox history and that seems to have done it. Thanks for looking into this for me. I wish I knew what would have caused that bug, I fooled around with my security settings, tried resetting the computer, and was thinking of deleting firefox completely and reinstalling it before attempting this slightly less drastic step.

Again, thank you for looking into this for me and confirming that it was probably on my end, and I hope I didn't take up too much of your time. Have a great Thanksgiving guys!
