Countless Peoples, Countless Techniques!

The boundless continent of Tian Xia features innumerable peoples, each with their own rich history and practices. Bring your character to life with this 136-page guidebook crammed full of everything a player might need to build a hero hailing from or journeying through these vast lands, including:

  • Six new ancestries, including the reincarnating samsaran, trickster tanuki, and shadowy wayang, as well as Tian-inspired additional feats and heritages for existing ancestries, like the peachchild leshy, bakuwa lizardfolk, and gandharva sprite!
  • Feats inspired by Tian Xia’s diverse arts and practices, from new elemental medicine to alchemically fortified cuisine to how the zodiac can guide your character’s path.
  • Spectacular magical and martial techniques to vanquish the toughest opponents, whether that's through weightless sword arts or by borrowing the ancient power of magical familiars.
  • Dazzling new magic items and weapons to forge or find, from the subtle kotodama whistle to legendary artifacts like the staff of Sun Wukong.

Some of the data is terrible

3/5

I can forgive the strength of spirit warrior and fan dancer. But I can't forgive wandering chef's poor stats. Can you imagine the pain we felt when we saw this archetype while dreaming of being a gourmet adventurer? It's not even weak, it doesn't work in the game! I'll give it 3 stars in honor of the wonderful ancestries and art, so please fix wandering chef as soon as possible.

Great Themed Addition to Golarion and Player Options

5/5

Found myself enjoying this book much more than I expected as a dug into it.

At first glance, it felt light (partly because it followed the core and Tian Xia physically heavier books) and partly because when doing a first pass, I skipped over the "people" section because I assumed it was just world-guide type survey of people with smattering of character options that I'd look at later.

That was a mistake soon rectified by a deeper read. There are some nicely written options that expand and illuminate the Tian Xia setting and aren't just simple reskins of existing content.

The authors did a great job of providing colorful, interesting expressions of Tian Xia for a PF2E setting, a place that should be and is very different from the Inner Sea region. Definitely some areas I'd like to try out and will keep an eye out for more APs set in Tian Xia

Well done.

My understanding was that this is going to be an ORC book.

I'd be shocked if it wasn't ORC. Three of the four main Remaster books are out and the APs going forward will be ORC. Also, I don't think it was pushed back so far just to make room for the Remaster books. I think some things had to be reworked.

Using OGL for new books seems ridiculous now.

Since Rage of Elements already was made under the ORC license, I'd heavily doubt that the next hardcover out will still be under OGL, even if it is in the partner line of setting books.

Aaron Shanks posted earlier in this thread that books printed after Player Core and GM Core will all be ORC license.

Small correction here. Rage of Elements is published under the OGL license, as can be seen by checking the license agreement in the back of the book and it not having the green trade dress of the ORC books.

The only indicator I see that the Character Guide might be OGL is that the cover art still uses the old trade dress (parchment PF2 logo, not green), which could just be a sign that they haven't updated the cover art on the store page.

The rules were actively called out as being made with the remastered rules on page 3, though.

Which licence the book is published under is somewhat more technical than whether the rules it uses count as remaster or legacy. Rage of Elements is the last OGL rulebook listed on the wiki--albeit the LOTX Character Guide isn't from the rulebook line so it's not listed relative to its licence at all (yet?). Of course, as mentioned, all books after Rage should be ORC licence, and all APs after #200 should be Remastered

Both Tian Xia books use Remastered rules and are under the ORC license.

I feel like this is where we could or should of gotten ninja and samurai. As an archetype at least

Actually, it was confirmed today in an interview with James Case that there won't be any option, archetype or otherwise, that's meant to be the PF1E's "Samurai" or "Ninja" equivalent. The company feels like you can play those options with the material already provided (and doesn't help that both Samurai and Ninja have several different interpretations in media, so everyone's version might be different). They rather wanted to provide options that couldn't be done with the system right now, like with magical girls and the upcoming Starlit Sentinel archetype.

James also spoiled a good few things for Tian Xia Character Guide and Howl of the Wild, which I detailed in this Reddit post RIGHT HERE!

Given a choice between transforming warriors of power and racially-charged stereotypes of fighter and rogue, I'll take transforming warriors of power, please.

It's too bad this book is releasing so long after the Tian Xia World Guide. A more coordinated release would have been nice so we could play around with the world guide lore using Tian Xia character guide characters.

It's less a problem of coordination, and more a problem of "oops, remaster *throw plans all over the place*". xD

Four months is really, really brief from a production point of view.

The original plan was to have this book and the World Guide in place for Season of Ghosts. The Remaster threw a wrench into things.

Each 2e Kineticist subclass is several pages long. I wouldn't expect to see more of them too often.

I am very much looking forward to this!

Has there been any prievew or spoiler posted about the elemental medicine or alchemical foods? I'm planning a character based on MaoMao from The Apothecary's Diary, and I think those would give a more accurate and authentic flavor to the character. I'm super interested in any info I can glean.

So, the Paizo Twitch stream this past Friday revealed:

2 of the new Kobold heritages are the Heaven Scribe Kobold and the Mighty Vault Kobold (I don’t know if I heard that name correctly?) A kobold feat they talked about is the Imperial Dragon Potion feat, which lets you brew a potion once per day that grants the energy breath of an imperial dragon that is your kobold’s benefactor. For example, water bludgeoning for an imperial sea dragon, a psychic roar for a sovereign imperial dragon, a cone of venomous insects for an imperial forest dragon.

2 of the new Leshy heritages are the Peachchild Leshy, which looks like a very, very human-like child, and the regal Chrysanthemum Leshy, which looks more human-like than most leshies, but less so than the Peachchild. Peachchild Leshy have abilities focused on animal companions and are inspired from the Japanese legends of Momotaro, ranging from talking to animals to an ability called Unassuming Heroes that lets them create a snack that can grant an animal companion the effects of a striking rune or the ghost-touch rune. Inspired by the Japanese stories of Kaguya, who was cut from a bamboo stalk, the Chrysanthemum Leshy has the ability to Bloom Proudly that can help your allies to not get knocked out. They also have the ability to call Kodama spirits.

There was more, but it has gotten late…

Was there anything about the spirit warrior? I've been a bit confused on what exact kind of character option they are - a new specialization for an existing class, an archetype with different branches of further specializing, or what? And I want to know if the Kaiju defense one is both defending FROM defending people from kaiju, defending kaiju from people, or "all of the above, and defending WITH kaiju(-themed abilities)".

This book isn't out yet.

Yes, I'm asking because there was a twitch stream and Ashanderai said there was more. I'm asking if there was more in that twitch stream about the bit I'm interested in. I'm very sorry if that was confusingly worded.

I did not hear annything about Spirit Warrior. Mostly, the other mentions were of Monk and Martial Artist Stances: Rushing Goat Stance, Twisting Petal Stance, and Kaiju Stance. These can upgrade into abilities such as The Five Gods Ram, Whirling in the Summer Storm, and World Breaking Footfall. I can’t remember much else at the moment.

Thanks for the information anyways!

I wonder if the remastered Phoenix bloodline will be in this book given that it didn't make it into Player Core 2. I hope so as it was in a Tian Xia based AP. It's obviously not a solely Asian concept, as many cultures had legends regarding a fire-bird capable of rebirth. But this book comes out the earliest, lol.

Couldn't say for sure, but I would put money on "no". Books have a long lead-time, and so having two books releasing in the same month reference each other like that would be pretty tricky to pull off.

I would prefer Samurai and Shinobi be a Background rather than Class, myself. I am happy with this choice...

What's the deal with the alchemical cuisine? Do we get an alchemist specialty out of it? -hopeful noises-

I'm interested to see if they do a heritage for Vanara, considering Sun Wukong's a deity and there are vanara in Tian Xia (albeit, very culturally different from the ones we're more familiar with).

I've very excited for this book, I've got two characters lined up already:

- An unfurling brocade Magus, gonna use Intelligent Weapon from Battlezoo, and be a cursed sword that attacks with the seal wrappings on it, basically protecting my wielder who is totally gonna be descended from a family that has me in their safekeeping.

- Tanuki Ranger, we have a houserule level 6 advanced weapo ntraining feat for every class, so I'm going to have them take a barricade buster and mount it on a tripod, then flurry people with my standing turret, and keep a backup weapon on hand to whip out whenever necessary, it's a very cool aesthetic I've got in mind... assuming I don't choose to use them to playtest the starfinder soldier instead.

I too would hope that the Phoenix bloodline is part of this remastered book.

Oh! Just got contacted about my subscription going through!

Shipping have not started yet, it's only the Authorization step that started to went through for people.

Shipping is estimated to start only on Monday, and they have released a message that there could be some delay becasue of the backlog of orders from the previous delays and GenCon.

Got my PDF tonight, and after first skim wanted to ask:
I haven't found any info on traditions and stats for imperial dragons as sorcerer dragon bloodline

Any hope we can get this info somewhere?
I can find breath form and damage type in old books, but they don't have anything about imperial dragons traditions.

I think I found an error in medical feats. P 107, 109

Spoiler:
"Prepare Elemental Medicine" feat says "You can diagnose and treat up to 6 creatures during your daily preparations, making a separate check for each patient."

But "Pei Zing Adept" allows you to administer 2/4/8 Elemental Medicine based on skill level.

It seems that either original feat in the wrong and you can treat only 1 creature, or "Pei Zing Adept" is not needed.

Anything fun or notable about the new Magus Hybrid Studies or the Samsaran, Yaoguai, Yaksha, or Tanuki Ancestries?

I was going to say, would anyone be willing to divulge anything about the Ancestry stuff? Like, bonuses, heritages, fun feats, the like?

I've been a bit confused about the Spirit Warrior and Cultivator archetypes - it seems like they have two mutually exclusive specialties, but within the same archetype (kaiju defense vs trickster bane, good cultivator vs death cultivator). How does that work? (Also, do the Kaiju Defenders get any particularly fun, kaiju-themed abilities, like atomic breath?)
