Ray Guns and Rocket Packs!

It’s one thing to face a dragon armed with a longsword and a suit of magic plate mail, but what if you had an atom gun and powered armor? How many zombies could you blow up with a rocket launcher? What happens if you’re standing next to a graviton reactor when it explodes? All of these questions and more are answered within the pages of the Technology Guide—an invaluable manual of items, hazards, and character options for use in science-fantasy settings like Golarion’s Numeria, land of savagery and super-science!

Within this book, you’ll find:

  • Rules for dozens of new technological items, including weapons, armor, force fields, hologram generators, grenades, cybernetic implants, nanotech devices, remote controls for robots, and more!
  • New feats, spells, and archetypes for technologically savvy characters, along with rules for how your skills interact with super-science.
  • Extraordinarily powerful scientific items and artifacts, such as extinction wave devices, powered armor, and nuclear reactors!
  • The technomancer prestige class, which allows you to use magic to command robots and power your technology .
  • Rules for artificial intelligences, the effects of the passage of time on technological items, the dangers of radiation, the seven skymetals of Numeria, technological traps, and more!

The Technology Guide is a must-have for GMs running the Iron Gods Adventure Path or anyone looking to introduce super-science into any Pathfinder adventure or campaign setting.

paper quality is bad

4/5

Nice book with a lot of sci-fi items,, something like Wizardry in Golarion .. I woud like to give this book 5/5, but I cant. Reason why I cant do like that is simple, the quality of paper is just terrible. Paper Quality of Paizo books is going down, what is sad .. for me 4/5

Essential for Adding Tech to Pathfinder

4/5

Read my full review on Of Dice and Pen.

The Technology Guide provides gamemasters with the information and items they need to add technology into their fantasy games. It's not particularly exciting or innovative, but that's not really its point. Instead, it forms the necessary baseline for other books to build upon, much like the Core Rulebook provides the baseline rules for the entire game. If you want technology in your games, it's a book you really can't do without.

Meh

2/5

There are some interesting items in here but having sci-fi with magic breaks the immersion for me.

Pretty damn cool

4/5

I picked up this as a pdf because it looked interesting, and I was not disappointed. I used it to write an adventure (crashed UFO in a fantasy setting), and it led to the most fun I have ever had running a game. It would be useful if it had suggestions for other books containing some of the referenced monsters (such as certain types of monsters which I found on the pfsrd), but all in all it does exactly as promised.

Yes. Get it.

5/5

If you have any interest at all in genre fusion in your adventuring, this book is a must buy.

Of course it is...well in regards to Golarion(or in any world where magic does exist). Because Clarke assumes magic does not exist. So the whole law is based on a faulty logic(well in a fantasy setting where magic does exist).

Personally I was kinda of disappointed in seeing the quote in the first page. Now people will be telling me my expert in magic will not recognize tech as a non magical thing. Sigh.

Otherwise the book is pretty cool from my skim through.

I really doubt not using that quote to open the foreword would have changed how people think at all.

I mean.

It convinced me for all spellcasters in my Golarion to hurl globs of grey goo at people instead of magic now. It's not fireball anymore, it's nanomachines! GREY GOOOOOOO

What does the fighter archetype do? Pretty please! :)

Cyber-Soldier (Fighter Archetype):
Cyber-soldiers replace fallible flesh with precisioncrafted machinery. Some seek to exceed the limitations of humanoid flesh, while others become cyber-soldiers through drastic repairs necessitated by horrific injuries.

A cyber-soldier has the following class features.
Cybernetic Combat (Ex): At 5th level, a cyber-soldier gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls with implanted weapons, cybernetic arms, and melee or thrown weapons wielded with a cybernetic arm. Weapons wielded with two cybernetic arms receive double the bonus, except when such weapons are thrown. This damage bonus increases by 1 for every 4 levels gained. This attack bonus does not stack with the attack bonus for weapon training. A cyber-soldier gains a slam attack for each cybernetic arm. These attacks deal 1d6 points of bludgeoning damage for a Medium cyber-soldier and 1d4 points of bludgeoning damage for a Small cybersoldier.
This ability replaces weapon training 1.
Improved Implantation (Ex): At 7th level, a cybersoldier can exceed the normal limitations on cybertech implantation. Her brain and body slots each accommodate one more piece of cybertech than normal. In addition, her limit on implantation points increases by 1/2 his cybersoldier level. She can allocate these points between his Intelligence and Constitution scores as she chooses. At 15th level, her body slot can accommodate two more pieces of cybertech than normal.
This ability replaces armor training 2 and 4.
Resilience (Ex): At 19th level, a cyber-soldier has a reservoir of 5 temporary hit points for each piece of implanted cybertech in his body. Lost temporary hit points are recovered at the rate of 10 points per hour.
This ability replaces armor mastery.

Well, now. That's debatable. If, as Mr. Bonewits contends, magic is just as subject to the laws of physics as anything else, then magic on Golarion would follow the tenets of his theory just as much there as on Earth — unless the laws of physics are different.

Tell that to Isaac Bonewits, author of Authentic Thaumaturgy and Real Magic and the only person in modern history to have received (much to the University of California's chagrin, I suspect) a degree in Magic from a major US university.

Real Magic was Bonewits' dissertation, still available from Amazon.

Authentic Thaumaturgy is an adaptation of the principles in the dissertation to a D&D like RPG environment. It's available on the net as a free pdf, or from amazon.

I have so much to say but I think I'll skip it all and get right to the point. Ba Hahahahaha!!!

But we already know that magic, in Golarion, isn't subject to the laws of physics like everything else, just the rules of magic.

No offense, but if we're going to get into yet another Is Magic Technology Or Not discussion, or a What Are The Laws Of Physics Anyways discssion, can it be in a thread that isn't one for discussing the product? I mean, sure, it's an interesting discussion and all, but when I'm in this thread, I'd like to hear people's opinions about the book, or information about the book's contents, and while 'I think that spell makes no sense' is on-topic, I think we're steadily moving away from what's relevant to the thread. Pretty please? :)

You bring up a good point. Using the Technology Guide, you could literally play Shadowrun using the Pathfinder rules.

MINE CAME!!!!

Last thing I expected was to get my downloads on a Saturday! Also this is not making all my prep for Gencon any easier.

Now all I need to know is if I can have a CHAINSAW in pfs and I am set. I have a 2-handed qlippoth fighter who I wanted to have a chainsaw but was about to settle for the gnome pole.

Come on Mike! Make my dreams come true!

Chainsaw is easy enough I think. It will require some sort of energy source, otherwise it is near useless. 2 handed weapon.
In it's useless state, it should do 1D8 damage and a simple x2 critical.
In it's powered state, it does 2D8 damage and has a 18-20/x2 or 19-20/x3
critical threat range. The powering matrix lasts X number of turns per combat, or 24 hours based on some sort of common element. Or it resolves damage at touch AC or something.

YES! But I have only seen the words I have yet to read them. I also have people of the stars, Iron Gods 1, and ALL THE SCENARIOS I HAVE TO KNOW FOR GENCON that I'm also trying to read. It's like the worlds greatest mental seizure is occurring on my computer.

As for the Chainsaw the damage is dumb high, stupid good crit, and has the deadly and the distracting quality. Seriously it does d12 on the small version it's beautiful. Now it is not cheap but god do I want one now for my pfs fighter.

I believe its actually some sort of chainsaw sword. There was something similar to it in the d20 Modern Future book. Yur right though, it is way awesome. The illustration of the orc holding it is one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

Oh god can someone please send me a pic of that? I cannot wait for the friggin PDF. PLEASE!!!

Wait, the tech guide's going to be on the PRD? I figured it'd show up on the Archives and the SRD, but I thought the "campaign setting" materials didn't show up on PRD?

The Tech Guide will be the exception because the content of the book is necessary to run the Iron Gods AP. Paizo always puts the rules necessary for an AP up on the PRD.

Huh... Cool beans. Though, since they have yet to put Bestiary 4 up... I'm not going to hold my breath too long. Probably be checking the SRD and Archives of Nethys once a day though, lol.

Now I do have a question. How does a chainsaw function when it does not have a charge? Can I still wail on people with it or is it treated as an improvised melee weapon?

James! Quick question about technological weapons weapons.

Say I have a player who picks up an Inferno pistol. Say the player is a level 5 gunslinger.

When he fires his Inferno pistol is it (d6+Dex+deadly aim) fire damage or is it d6 Fire damage + (dex+deadly aim) weapon damage?

Really applies to a lot of weapons and is going to matter in book 1-2 for sure.

An inferno pistol can't deal "weapon damage." It deals fire damage, and any additions to that from Deadly Aim or sneak attack or whatever is the same type of damage as the type generated by the weapon.

So in this case it's all fire damage.
