Ray Guns and Rocket Packs!

It’s one thing to face a dragon armed with a longsword and a suit of magic plate mail, but what if you had an atom gun and powered armor? How many zombies could you blow up with a rocket launcher? What happens if you’re standing next to a graviton reactor when it explodes? All of these questions and more are answered within the pages of the Technology Guide—an invaluable manual of items, hazards, and character options for use in science-fantasy settings like Golarion’s Numeria, land of savagery and super-science!

Within this book, you’ll find:

  • Rules for dozens of new technological items, including weapons, armor, force fields, hologram generators, grenades, cybernetic implants, nanotech devices, remote controls for robots, and more!
  • New feats, spells, and archetypes for technologically savvy characters, along with rules for how your skills interact with super-science.
  • Extraordinarily powerful scientific items and artifacts, such as extinction wave devices, powered armor, and nuclear reactors!
  • The technomancer prestige class, which allows you to use magic to command robots and power your technology .
  • Rules for artificial intelligences, the effects of the passage of time on technological items, the dangers of radiation, the seven skymetals of Numeria, technological traps, and more!

The Technology Guide is a must-have for GMs running the Iron Gods Adventure Path or anyone looking to introduce super-science into any Pathfinder adventure or campaign setting.

paper quality is bad

4/5

Nice book with a lot of sci-fi items,, something like Wizardry in Golarion .. I woud like to give this book 5/5, but I cant. Reason why I cant do like that is simple, the quality of paper is just terrible. Paper Quality of Paizo books is going down, what is sad .. for me 4/5

Essential for Adding Tech to Pathfinder

4/5

Read my full review on Of Dice and Pen.

The Technology Guide provides gamemasters with the information and items they need to add technology into their fantasy games. It's not particularly exciting or innovative, but that's not really its point. Instead, it forms the necessary baseline for other books to build upon, much like the Core Rulebook provides the baseline rules for the entire game. If you want technology in your games, it's a book you really can't do without.

Meh

2/5

There are some interesting items in here but having sci-fi with magic breaks the immersion for me.

Pretty damn cool

4/5

I picked up this as a pdf because it looked interesting, and I was not disappointed. I used it to write an adventure (crashed UFO in a fantasy setting), and it led to the most fun I have ever had running a game. It would be useful if it had suggestions for other books containing some of the referenced monsters (such as certain types of monsters which I found on the pfsrd), but all in all it does exactly as promised.

Yes. Get it.

5/5

If you have any interest at all in genre fusion in your adventuring, this book is a must buy.

Also, love that cover.

Also also, Lirienne is firing blue lasers and red lasers and not hitting anything. Which sounds about right for those particular weapons. ;)

edit also- If Lirienne fights anything like how I played my Commander Shepard, she won't really need to hit considering she could probably just pistolwhip that guy to death.

I may have been playing that game incorrectly.

As a Vanguard player, I'm going to go and say that is exactly the correct way to play.
There's another way to play? 0.o

Or Nova + Charge, sure, but both are for newbs.

+1 returning grenade??

Seems kind of useless if it returns, it'll blow up next to you no matter how far you throw it :P

Actually that could be a good cursed item

+1 backbiting grenade. :)

Cute... but no. The grenade blows up after you throw it (and would gain a +1 to hit and damage!), but once it's blown up, it doesn't exist anymore and thus cannot return.

Sounds like there should be a cursed grenade that arcs back to the thrower before blowing up. :)

Maybe you should write it up for the inevitable(?) Iron Gods-/Numeria-themed future issue of Wayfinder? It's never too early to start writing, scalpel-ing, and polishing.

Sorry but no. I already tried submitting material multiple times to Wayfinder only to get my material rejected every single time. The last time I submitted original artwork along with a bloodline AND a stat block to boot only for that to get completely rejected. So, yeah, no f'ing way. I'm done trying to get into that little club.

MUAHHHHHAAH! Now my evil robot minions that live on the lost volcano isle near Azlantis can arise! ARISE!

I've been waiting for this book since i know the numerian setting!!! I defenitly NEED that book! But i have only one extreme fear about it... Please just tell me that technological armors will give some kind AC against firearms bullets and laser attacks. Or else, they will have no big diffrences between them and medieval armors... I'm waiting for bullet proof armors since firearms have been integreted in the setting. I really love firearms, but they are kind of little bit abusive vs heavy armored characters. (exept guntank). Sooo.... Yep! I'm waiting to build my space troopers with big heavy techno armor and laser or plasma rifle with a techno blade as a secondary weapon! ^^
Oh By the way; The cover made by The Artist Kerembeyit is just more than EPIC! That guy and War ares some of my favorite artists! ^^

Hmm, are there rules in here for an approximation of Intelligent Magic Items, in the form of AIs inhabiting things?

Can haz Cortana?

I would hope/prefer not only technology, but also the ability with magic and alchemy to actually alter items and raw materials in some way. For instance, alchemy on adamantine, to make it harder, denser, etc.

I. WANT. THIS. SO. MUCH!

I have only one complaint on this and that is when it comes out. I bought and loved the Numeria book and that was in June. Nothing for me to grab in July and this will be one of 3 books I will be picking up in August with the other two being People of the Stars and Iron Gods book 1. If I had my preference this or the People of the Stars book would drop in July so I can spread out my spending and give me another taste of what Iron Gods is going to be like. I do want this. I am planning to make a campaign based in part on inspirations of Spelljammer and Eberron in D&D and for other media a lot of the 80s cartoons like Thundarr, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, He-Man, Spiral Zone and Thundercats among other series.

If it's a question of budgeting, buy a gift certificate this month. You will be able to apply the credit to your August order.

Obviously if you're not buying direct from Paizo, that won't help, but if you are, it will spread your spending out.

I support my FLGS. I know they will carry this and the whole Iron Gods AP. I am going to reward them by buying through them as much as possible but I appreciate the sentiment none the less.

If it's a budgeting issue, does your FLGS do gift certificates? You could always give yourself a gift certificate in July and use it in August.

If it's a timing issue, then there's nothing to be done, short of hi-jacking a TARDIS.

So is this coming out before Fires of Creation? I would think not, at least for non-subscribers, since FoC is coming out the 14th of August, which is considerably early in terms of releases.

It's being the released the same time as "Fires of Creation," as the 14th of August is the first day of GenCon, which is serving as both the day it releases to subscribers and the retail release date.

Luckily for you however in 23 days the last chapters of MM will be released along with people of the rivers which have goodies and traits for iron gods. :)

...oh man, oh man. Traits for Iron Gods, followed only 15 days later by the sweet, sweet rush of technological goodness that is the holy trifecta of People of the Stars, the Technology Guide, and Fires of Creation... And that's not even getting into the fact that all those come out the same month as my birthday happens. Plus the release of the Advanced Class Guide.

August is the raddest month.

True, but not all local retailers carry it then. My local store usually doesn't get the book until I bug them to order it for me. Then, every time it comes in, other people come and buy all the copies so I have to wait longer :(

The store won't hold things as a matter of policy because they've been burned by unreliable people in the past. The owner of the store is my best friends uncle, also a close friend of mine, but, despite that, he won't hold things for me.

Which is exactly what I expect of him. I don't want him playing favorite for myself or anyone else because it just lowers the integrity of the store. If they are going to introduce a store policy, then it needs to apply to every one, or it might as well not apply to any one.

I'm perfectly fine with them not holding stuff for me. Most of the time, I get the book I asked them to order, but there have been several times where someone else got there first. It just means more people have to book and the store is making more money, so I'm cool with that.

I understand that I pay more through my store, and I could get it cheaper from Paizo, but Paizo doesn't provide me with a place to play and a central location for all of the players to meet and join up with others. I'd rather pay more and give my money to local suppliers, than get it cheaper through Paizo.

Fair enough. The FLGS here has a policy of ordering stuff in for people, holding it for a specified length of time, and then put it on the shelf. Means that what people ordered is what they get, so long as they get there reasonably quickly. I guess I just don't get how holding a book someone ordered for a week is going to cause problems, but that said, I'm also not a business owner, so there's likely a logical reason I haven't thought of.

One thing they have stopped is their old policy of allowing people to run up an account. A lot of people, like myself, could be trusted to keep things within reason, so if I wanted to secure a spot for a pre-release tournament or something I'd do all my registration, then come in and pay for it next pay day. Same deal with if I needed a book they had but it was off payweek. Unfortunately some other people racked up huge accounts, then just stopped showing up to the store. Others put huge amounts on their accounts and just kept buying more stuff, but never cleared the account... So yeah, stopping that kind of behaviour I totally understand, even though it's an inconvenience to me.

Anyway, back on topic. I just keep getting more and more excited for this book... even though we're not going to be playing Iron Gods for a while, I can't wait to get this and start incorporating stuff into my other games. Must... have... technology!

No, they don't do pre-paid because that means they need to keep track of anyone that pre-pays for any thing. They've had issues with this in the past of someone wanting to pre-pay for a book to be released (I think it was Warhammer) and then months later, when it came out, every one forgot and paid the full-price, and then months after, the customer remembered, forcing them to go back an verify and then issue a refund on the pre-pay amount...

There was also issues with people pre-paying for an item, then possibly moving away and then they have to sit on the merchandise until they can refund the money so they can sell it on the shelves. Or miscommunication amongst the employees and selling a pre-paid item.

The owner decided it was just better to opt out of doing that stuff at all because it avoids confusion, hassle, and worse, upset customers. I live in a small town of ~3,000 people on a peninsula that has ~20,000 people living on it, so a few bad transactions have really harm the stores reputation via word of mouth. The store is also the only hobby store for ~150 miles, so while people may be willing to forgive some stuff, I'd rather not push the store's luck on that.

Pessimistic it may be, but people are more likely to remember the times they got bad service, than the times they got good service and they will focus on the bad.
