![]() I think the theme of the Thaumaturge is cool, but it fell really flat in play (and I played at levels 1, 12, and 13). Hopefully these changes make it feel more fun. I do hope that the 1e Occultist gets revisited in 2e. It was my favorite 1e class and the Thaumaturge had pretty much none of what I liked about it. ![]()
![]() Yeah I don't think they're done yet. The most recent mention is from the April Organized Play update blog post, which said Paizo blog wrote: We’ll be looking at sanctioning the two One-Shots scheduled for release at PaizoCon next so that they’re ready for the event. After that, our upcoming sanctioning schedule includes the Devastation Ark Adventure Path for Starfinder, Bestiary 3 and Malevolence for Pathfinder, and have started working on Tyrant’s Grasp and Return of the Runelords for Pathfinder (first edition). I am also keeping an eye on it as I want my chronicle as well. ![]()
![]() I think there are a few 1e adventures set in Isger as well. Pathfinder wiki has a list. At the time of this posting that list shows: Doom Comes to Dustpawn
Some of these are higher level adventurers and not a good fit, but it's worth checking out the ones on the list. Converting a scenario to 2e is not that hard, especially if you just reuse the plot and stick to monsters from the bestiaries and NPCs you can reskin from the GMG ![]()

![]() My favorite discord lodge is Find the Path, but I am a member of all of them. I second the advice about muting servers, but you can actually be more selective about how you do it. For some servers I have the whole server muted, full stop--no mentions, nothing. For other servers, I disable desktop and mobile notifications and then mute the categories and channels I don't care about: this way I can still use the "unread messages" inbox in discord (one of my favorite features of the desktop app that I dearly wish they would add to mobile) to browse new messages in those channels without automatically marking them as read. That way I also get the little red notification dot in my system tray for discord, and I can see there are new messages I care about in that server when I'm browsing servers in discord. For the servers that are most important to me (pretty much just my own server where I'm running or playing in games with friends) I allow desktop and mobile notifications (though I often mute the mobile notifications from my phone). Most servers have a bunch of "non-Pathfinder chat" channels, and side from a few on Find the Path, I always mute those. I mute some game system chat channels too if they're too chatty for me, ha ha. -- Regarding the different servers OPO is awesome for getting answers (esp. official answers) to your PFS questions. There are a lot of really active chat channels there as well. I keep this whole server muted all the time. Roll for Combat is quieter and more PbP oriented. At the moment, by default, you have to manually mute every single table you're not in, which I find inconvenient, but the new VC there (congrats again Bigrin!) is working on improvements there, piece by piece. I think I'll be in a GameDay X game here. Cosmic Crittermanders is a very SFS oriented server. It is quiet and well organized enough but doesn't feature the second most important play by post discord quality-of-life feature after a dice bot: the "tupperbot" that lets you use an alias to post as your character instead of yourself. Cayden's Keg is very friendly, and is mostly oriented around VTT games. They do run the occasional PbD game, and I'm in an Age of Ashes game there. They're putting a lot of effort into building up the server and it has a very up-and-coming feel. My favorite, its no secret, is Find the Path. I love the mix of active and friendly community, quality GMs, frequent pbp games... And they are one of the most well-organized discord servers (for *any* topic) I'm a member of, which actually ends up being important. I'm in a few PFS games here at the moment, and in the past I have also played SFS, Modules, and APs here. -- Anyhow, that's probably way more info than anyone wanted about discord servers but I really love them. They're a much smoother, richer experience than playing on Paizo IMO. Also I'll be running Burden of Envy on Find the Path for GameDay X and want to get people excited about the idea of playing there, ha ha. ![]()

So whether you want to be someone who dabbles in archery--like a bard or wizard that needs something useful to do when they have a spare action--or you want to be a badass archer, either way the barrier to entry is lower in PF2e than it was in PF1e. -- I think the heart of your beef with the system is not fully understanding how different it is from PF1e. One of the biggest things that I think people miss when coming from 1e is that doing nothing but attacking is rarely the best use of all of your actions. Counterintuitively, it might be an even worse use of actions for a Fighter Archer than for a Flurry Ranger Archer. In PF2e, shortbows and longbows are not necessarily better or worse than one another. They have different tradeoffs and lead to a different style of play. Similarly, archer Fighters and archer Rangers (and archer Champions, and archer Monks, and archer Bards, etc.) have very different playstyles from one another. The Ranger has at least two different archery playstyles (each distinct from the Fighter style) contained in its class alone! Consider this exchange... Spoiler:

And here my "literally impossible" quote is shown to likely be wrong: Mirror, Nocticulan Herald wrote: Flurry Ranger is also incredibly good accuracy-wise, maybe edging out Fighter in that it can reduce MAP to -2 max. For context, this means that where a Fighter starts with the highest bonus to their first attack, their second attacks are at -5 and -10. Whereas a Flurry Ranger makes those 2nd and 3rd attacks vs their Hunted Prey at -3 and -6. At higher levels that becomes -2 and -4, and then finally -1 and -2. Essentially a Flurry Ranger trades accuracy on the first hit for better accuracy on the subsequent hits. A Fighter using Double Shot steps down to the Ranger's level in terms of accuracy, but doesn't gain any action economy from the process. Meanwhile the Ranger has a level 1 feat that lets him attack the same target twice with just one action.I could go on and on about this but I'll try to wrap up. :) The point is that PF2e supports many more styles of archery than PF1e did. Once a PF1e archer hits that second iterative attack, they become stationary full attackers. Pretty much all of them. In PF2e, you can do the "stationary full attack" style (that's what the Fighter feats lend themselves to), but there are so many other styles:
If you stayed with me this far, maybe you should try it out :) I am running PFS2e scenario 1-05 Trailblazer's Bounty as a play-by-post on Discord starting sometime in the next week or so; the game might appear to be full but throw yourself on the waitlist anyway and I'll take care of you. It's a wilderness exploration scenario with several combats where you could see how a given archer style fares in close quarters vs forested areas vs clearings. I will save you a spot if you would like one (same for anyone else reading this), and can even give you a few tips on a character you build. You don't even need to own any PFS2e rulebooks; everything in the CRB and the Lost Omens World Guide is free to use in PFS2 regardless of whether you own it or not. -- P.S. ![]() So I read this blog and thought "they're going to stop making GMs write fame on Chronicles and then phase it out, neat." I did not understand that would mean I no longer get fame. There are several faction boons I was gearing up to buy, but I was waiting until I actually needed them. Now I *can't buy them at all*? That's... Pretty s*@+ty. I use the faction boons a lot on all of my characters, and even plan my builds around them. I get that at some vague point in the future there will be a new system that gives me access to (some of?) Those things, but not having access to them in the meantime is very upsetting. I'm also not a fan of having to spend my AcP on those boons. Race boons are *expensive* and many of the faction boons are, in my opinion, must have. I don't like having to sacrifice race boons to get cool things related to my faction, and thematically I liked that my fame was tied to my *character's* achievements, rather than my achievements as a player/gm. Is there a plan to hand out more AcP or reduce the cost of AcP things to make up for collapsing the two currencies into one? ![]()

You could also use Drain Bonded Item to recover the spell slot you spent to charge the staff. So even at level 1 it gives you increased versatility: instead of casting one spell 2x and another spell 1x, you can cast three spells 1x each.
