Trailer for Clone Wars season 6. Looks really good too.

Variety.com: Lucasfilm confirms cast for The Mandalorian:

Pedro Pascal as The Mandalorian, along with Carl Weathers, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog (!!!), and Nick Nolte.

Jon Favreau is executive producer and lead writer for the series. Confirmed directors for episodes include Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates) and Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows & Thor: Ragnarok).

Quote:
The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. It follows the travails of a lone gunfighter (Pascal) in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. It will air on Disney+ in 2019.

Ah, so bikes for A-Wings then? :)

Why couldn't this story be told as a sequel to the DS9 series? I'm just wondering because it seems to be me that they could have saved themselves a lot of trouble by putting the show in the future than the past.

I seem to remember Fuller was originally pushing for a serial episodes where each season focused on a different ship & timeframe. I think when this was originally in development, Paramount 1) was still expecting nuTrek to be a hit, so they wanted something earlier in the timeline that wouldn't directly contradict the Abramsverse, and 2) the different ships/timeframes each season would be too expensive for needing to (re)create new sets, wardrobe, and props.

That depends on whether Star Wars' hyperspace works similar to Cowboy Bebop's hyperspace gateways as seen in "Gateway Shuffle".

There seems to be little middle ground on this movie. Most people seem to either really love it or really hate it.

It's almost as if it's a deliberate Imperial/First Order plot: 1) wrap viewers in copper wire and/or Kyber crystals, b) set half spinning clockwise and the other half counterclockwise, and π) use power generated to power the First Order superweapon appearing in Star Wars IX.

Paramount isn't going to undermine their rebooted movie franchise by setting a new TV show in the "old" post-Kelvin timeline. But they still want old school Trekkers to tune in. That leaves them with few options in the timeline to try and please both sides.

I'm not saying I agree with their decision (I hate the rebooted Trek idea), but that's probably their logic.

How much do you wanna bet the Shireen really tried to take special "single color" orders but then they get on the factory floor and all of those color options and then their compound eyes get really big...

That sounds like the shipyard paintcrew is staffed entirely with dozens/hundreds of Sabine Wrens.

Guy Humual wrote:

I'm looking at this from a former Christian, atheist perspective, and from my point of view, best case scenario for an afterlife is that the religious texts are screwed up. Supposing there is a god and an afterlife at some point in human history the books that we base our religion on got misinterpreted, maybe the Torah was edited while it was still an oral law, maybe the oldest written versions we have were reworked to fit the then modern sensibilities of the time. Maybe the prophets couldn't fully comprehend the message to pass on their followers, or made stuff up when asked about things not foretold to them by god.

Usually I just suspect that all religions in general were just a good stories for entertainment that got out of hand once they were turned into money making businesses. When I get very cynical I think it was always a scam and most religious leaders know it. However there are plenty of preachers out there that seem sincere in their beliefs and most local pastors aren't getting rich. I don't have the answers here and if you're asking the question is there an after life the most definitive answer I can give is that I've seen no evidence of one. If your case is that there is an afterlife my statement is really not a strong condemnation against your beliefs.

Also, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings here. I don't believe but if you're not trying to force your beliefs on others I have no bone to pick with you. I'm not looking to de-convert anyone.

So the Abrahamic religions have picked up all these extra patches/workarounds and funky plotlines/retcons... like the Star Wars Expanded Universe before Lucasfilm/Disney threw it all out? :)

I imagine their master (Vader? Or someone yet unseen?) would train them up, and then graduation would be "all apprentices fight to the death, keep the last one standing." It still isn't clear if they are Sith or something else.

It's interesting though that Ahsoka doesn't self-identify as Jedi either. Maybe they're building to more complexity in the Force than just Dark Side vs. Light Side, Sith vs. Jedi... since that old outlook has too many shortcomings/problems (imbalance?).

The more I think about it, the more I want to see a Star Wars prequel remake. The problem with the prequels is pretty basic when you get down to it. Lucas is very vocal that Star Wars is for children, and did the prequels accordingly. That's why I loved all three as a kid, but dislike them now that I'm older. The Original Trilogy had people telling Lucas to shut it, so it wasn't as childish by far. The storyline of the prequels is, on the face of it, not that bad, it's the execution that ruins it. Get a more competant director looking to make an all ages film, and you can largely salvage the movies. The Phantom Menace? Tone Jar-Jar's clumsiness the hell down (The Clone Wars showed the character himself is surprisingly salvageable), get rid of the pod racing, portray the Invasion of Naboo in greater debth, and link the outcome directly to the later Trade Federation rebellion, and you could have something that's actually pretty good. Same goes with the other two movies. Take a lot of inspiration from The Clone Wars. That was some good stuff. You want it to feel like a war. It's not even really much harder than toning down the kid appeal and putting a bit more effort in portraying Anakin. Also, more savage The Force Awakens style lightsaber fighting instead of all the spinny stuff.

Yes. How is the head held on? If there is a slot all the way around the soccer ball so the head can stay on top, then how does it not roll to the left or right and topple over?

Dumbest thing I've seen in a long time.

Let's ignore, for the moment, the fact that this is a highly advanced fantasy/sci-fi universe with space wizards and planet-destroying lasers, and thus any criticism grounded in, "I can't figure out how it works, technologically, therefore it's dumb!" is fundamentally flaccid.

They actually built the thing in real life. It rolled out on stage in front of thousands of people. No slot in its body, the head stayed on top just fine, and it didn't topple over. In real life. Heck, I bet if you spent a couple minutes thinking about it, you could figure out how they probably made it work, too.

xkcd

The world's largest noise suppressor is currently the prototype built for the German army's M109G 155mm self-propelled howitzer. While it reduced the noise by approximately 30DBa, it never went into mass production; as the suppressor is physically larger than the entire M109G vehicle, it was physically too large to practically move.

I find it interesting the way the author spouts out Spocks attributes like we are supposed to think Spock is 'right'...

Spock was always only PART of the equation. He had logic on his side, McCoy had Passion on his, and Kirk was in the middle making decisions.

Spock always pushed that Logic was the 'right' way to go, but Kirk rarely EVER followed his advice and the ship was better for it. More often then not it was his human half leaking through that showed how his emotions made him BETTER then the standard cold full-blooded Vulcans.
