Hmmm, interesting. So even your black manliness provides no protection against Captain Tight Pants' aura of devastating charmingness.
Nobody can hate Nathan Fillion.
I come pretty close.
Why, he's an excellent actor and awesome with his fans.
He does voice-work too. Maybe Freehold is hating him in advance of an eventual anime to english dub?

You can't hate the voice of God!

Yeah, sorry, i prefer to hear the actual version with the original actors, not some half baked piece of crap, strung together at the last possible moment with the people they had to pay the least.

That doesn't really describe any dub done in the past decade, and it's a good description of the VA process for lots of shows in Japan.

Pretty much all VA work everywhere is done with last minute edits, almost no prep time, at the last minute, for as little money as possible.

Dubs used to be horrible, but so did most subtitles as well.

Nowadays a dub from Funimation, Sentai Filmworks or VIZ is easily the same quality as the Japanese audio and that's been the case for at least a decade. Even ADV's old dubs are fairly high quality.

Now, I don't know what Polish dubbing is like, but I assume since we're all writing in English that we're talking about English dubs.

Sovereign Court

We are. Also I'm not Polish :)

Anyway, I've watched dubs, and I VASTLY, VASTLY prefer the original VA work, and I can actually speak Japanese a little. Maybe it's just me, but in all the English dubs, VAs sound like they are doing the dubbing unwillingly.

I speak only a word of two of Japanese, but when I watch subs I often run into what I call the 'whisper voice' used by female VA's. To me, it sounds flat and emotionless. Oddly enough, I adore Japanese singing.

Thankfully for fans of both versions, the days of VCR tapes and having to choose one (and maybe not being able to get the format you want) are over. DVDs and Blurays can fit them both on the same disk.

My main point of contention with sub fans is so many of them come across as if the mere existence of a dub (which no one has forced them to watch) somehow ruins the sanctity of the subtitled version for all time. I can't have a good opinion of someone who comes across thinking that things they don't personally like should not be available to anyone.

Sorry, I know that. I have no idea why I thought Polish... I blame working twenty hours this weekend.

I think we have some subtitle fans who are from non-English speaking countries (perhaps one mentioned a while back was Poland?) who has stated that their dubbing studios are still trying to reach where the US ones were 30 years ago, often using the same VA for multiple major characters in the same program.

You don't want to hear Serbian dubs for dragon ball. God, you don't want to hear them, especially if you speak serbian xD.

I just prefer everything in its original form if possible. Also, to me, dubbing is connected with illiteracy of a country (I assume I am wrong on this)

Cannot wait for tomorrow.

Loving this series.

Is the second season only 9 episodes (not including the Siege of Lothar)?

No, I think the show just on holiday hiatus. Also, Disney is weird about their show scheduling. {continues waiting for some vague rumor about when Gravity Falls finale will air}

Ok cool. I bought the season on iTunes just wanted to make sure that wasn't it.

Vader was amazing in the 2 hour one.

Hellsing is better dubbed than subbed.

Let's not start this again.

Dubs vs Subs is a matter of taste, much like preferring one drink over another.

However, the opinion that the existence of one somehow ruins the other despite no one breaking into your home and forcing you to watch, Clockwork Orange style, deserves to be ridiculed at every opportunity.

I agree wholeheartedly.

But the Hellsing dub is terrible. I mean Hellsing Ultimate Abridged has better voice work. And those guys are semi-amateurs.

Funny, the only people I have heard complain about the Hellsing dub are people who complain about all dub jobs. Find me someone who actually likes dubbing to say that it is bad and I might be tempted to listen.

Sovereign Court

I generally avoid dubs because I enjoy listening to Japaneze. But there are some excellent dubs out there. Record of Lodoss War is one of those, aside from the main character who sounds like his genitals are in a vise.

Well, Deedlit DOES lead Parn around and get him involved in all sorts of dangerous dealings because she's interested in his magic sword...

A Princess on Lothal

Since Leia is part of the Imperial Senate I wonder if the group will be wary and how they will interact with her her at first, and if the Jedi recognize her as Force Sensitive.

I was thinking that too, her art seemed like she was a little older though.

I use that term at least once a day, typically to mess with co-workers any time they use even the smallest amount of vacation or sick time.

But I'm not exactly a kid. At least, not physically......

Exactly.

Sovereign Court

Mid season trailer.

Got me stoked!

Spoiler:

Kylo Ren's sword? Oh give me a break

Scarab Sages

Very interesting trailer.

Spoiler:
The overhead shot of the inquisitors surrounded by lightsaber wielding foes makes me wonder if more Jedi survived Order 66 than anyone thought.

And who was the dude with the white mask? Maybe the original Ren? As in, maybe he started the order after the downfall of the Jedi, and we'll see how that order became corrupted into the Knights of Ren. Maybe Ezra is the future founder of the Knights.

And who was that old dude, the one who told Ezra to call him "Old Master" (if I was hearing correctly)? Could that have been the past version of Supreme Leader Snoke?

Can't wait to see Vader take on Anakin? Sounds like he's gonna get in her head and use his fall against her, a sort of "you could have stopped this but you left" type of mind game.

Either way, it looks pretty cool.

I was watching that from a taxi cab the other day and the cab driver heard it and we had a 10 minute conversation about The Force Awakens.

Really, Sabine?

Spoiler:
You want to kill the lead Mandalorian for hurting Hera, but not for killing the two other members of your fighter squadron? Taking redshirts to a bit of an extreme there.

Oh. My. God.

This most recent episode was the most amazing thing I have seen on American television in years. Years.

what clay pot do you keep your soul in? It was amazing!

It was ... ominous.

Spoiler:

The overuse of what should have been a dead Darth Mal... I didn't like when they resurrected him for Clone Wars, and I didn't like it here either.

Also the lame endings of the Inquisitors... these were the people being built up as a major challenge for our heroes and they get cut down like Red Shirts on a TOS episode.

Ominous of course because we now have confirmation of Ezra turning to the Dark Side.

Aranna wrote:

Spoiler:
they were a major challenge for our heroes. Not for the person they fought.

And just about every Jedi has flirted with the dark side outside of the main three light side extremists. A good number turn to it permanently, but many do not.

The frequent use of MaryPoppinsabers almost ruined it for me.

There was very little that was amazing about it from my point of view but I dont begrudge you your enjoyment of it. I dont watch it normally in real time but since it was an hourlong season finale I tuned in.

Star Wars Rebels Spoilers:
Aside from Kanan being seemingly perma-blinded?Which admittedly I dont think anyone saw that coming *RIM SHOT* We knew that Maul was going to pull a heel turn. He's MAUL. The three inquisitors getting wacked didnt matter to me one way or another. The only person I was worried for was Ashoka and her fate wasn't definitive. Same with Maul. No bodies? NOT DEAD. Long fall from great height? PROBABLY NOT DEAD. So all in all the episode was *IMMORTAN JOE* MEDIOCRE!! *IMMORTAN JOE* for me.

You all make me cry.

Oh it had good moments... it just wasn't ALL good.

Spoiler:
I've stated my bad points, these are the good ones:

I for one love the lightsaber battle between Anakin and Ahsoka where she finally figures out who he really is.

And in a meta sense if this is a way to exit those two characters without making any final decisions about them then great, well done.

I also like the game Maul is playing the whole time. Even if it would have been better done with someone else.

The series also has yet to explain where the Inquisitors fit into the universe and dark side. There are always two Sith a master and an apprentice. They aren't Sith but clearly dark side trained... they did something similar in Clone Wars with Asajj Ventress and Savage Opress. What is the difference here?

If they aren't trained enough to be full Sith then maybe they don't count? Evil people aren't always likely to follow rules - they're just another thing in the way between them and what they want.

Sovereign Court

A master can have many hopefuls and pick only one apprentice.

In both shows there already was an apprentice. In Clone Wars the apprentice was (secretly?) training a dark side assassin to do his bidding. They haven't explained the Inquisitors yet or why there are so many.

I imagine their master (Vader? Or someone yet unseen?) would train them up, and then graduation would be "all apprentices fight to the death, keep the last one standing." It still isn't clear if they are Sith or something else.

It's interesting though that Ahsoka doesn't self-identify as Jedi either. Maybe they're building to more complexity in the Force than just Dark Side vs. Light Side, Sith vs. Jedi... since that old outlook has too many shortcomings/problems (imbalance?).
