Someone get the CDC on the hotline now! This may be the start of a Code Liefeld.

Why so serious? Thought this was a buddy comedy?

Favreau's character is Bourexa Casper, a spacer who needs one last big score of spice (11 kinds) so he can open his own food shuttle selling KFP (Kashyyyk Fried Porg).

I’ve got a really good feeling about this.

I love the Star Destroyer being built in the opening scene.

I think I LOVE the latest trailer!

Liberty's Edge

Review Embargo lifted on May 15.

Ten days before the official premiere, a good sign.

So, when are we getting a Greedo stand alone movie?

Sovereign Court

Hopefully the rumor that Han did not manage the Kessel run but that girl that Emilia Clarke portrays did it is not true.

I'm fine either way. I think it would be just like Han to imply that He made the Kessel run when it really was'nt him to boost his rep.

I don't think He ever says that he was the one that made that run, just the ship did.

Um, you probably should have spoilered that ...

Sovereign Court

It's a rumor, I don't see why.

Well, it’s just that the movie has been screened for quite a few people by now and the review embargo is off, so there is a decent chance that rumor might by true, and if it is ... you just let a spoiler fly

I will never understand the complaint some people have against spoilers in threads dedicated to talking about the think they don't want spoiled.
It seems to me that if they really want to avoid spoilers about something, they shouldn't seek out discussions about that very thing.

Because sometimes people want to see if the movie (or other thing) is worth seeing or hear unspoiled reviews from community members whose opinions they respect. Or they may be seeking out other information (e.g., links to related media, like interviews).

We have spoiler tags, they're not hard to use.

Alternately one can always make a spoiler thread if desired.

It's also, at least in the corner of the universe I live in, not ridiculous to expect people to abide by basic common courtesy, which includes not wrecking the plot within the first couple weeks or so at least of the thing coming out.

(That said, I don't think rumors need to be spoilered, but discussing the appropriateness thereof is fair.)

Common courtesy could easily be not complaining about people discussing something in a discussion about that thing.

If you’re referring to me, I didn’t complain. I just pointed out that, since the movie has been screened by numerous people by now, and the review embargo has been lifted, there are tons of reviews online, including spoiler-filled reviews. That means if there is a rumor going around about something in the movie, there is a pretty reasonable chance it came from someone who has seen the movie.

It’s pretty standard etiquette and also basic courtesy to error on the side of caution and spoiler text something that might be a spoiler.

You sounded pretty matter-of-fact to me, Marc. But I think given it's about a misinterpretation of a line anyway, I don't think anything got ruined for anyone in this case. :) Hama's a tough kid, he can take it. ;)

I've heard mixed things about this. Someone made me thing it was already out but it looks like it's not out till tomorrow. Not sure I want to go. Thoughts?

Sovereign Court

It's out in my country. People say it's pretty meh. A bad space western.

thanks for the response.

Mmm.

Now I want to run a Star Wars campaign with a western theme.

cool.

I figured the movie would be something like that.

A very good film. Comfortably superior to The Last Jedi, a fair bit better than Rogue One, a bit better than The Force Awakens. It goes in some very surprising directions which I wasn't expecting, although some of them are a bit too obviously setting up a sequel.

The most enjoyable thing about the movie was

Spoiler:
the massive middle finger to the Marvel Universe at the end, when it basically said, "Hey, our TV shows are canon and we're going to acknowledge that right now" in a manner that also made sense by itself in context (and surprised the hell out of about 90% of the audience).

Didn't we already have that? It was called Serenity. But I don't recall it being that bad.

The answer:

Spoiler:
This is 100% untrue. Han does most of it himself. There's one bit of help he has from a droid (but only in programming the hyperspace exit vector, Han has to still hit the jump point) and another guy has to throw a switch in the engine room to give the ship some pep, but that's it. Han does the flying.

A good indicator of how a film is going to do is looking at how many seats are available for early Thursday night showings. I have a few theaters I like to look at when I'm not going to them myself (which for Solo I won't because honestly, it doesn't look that interesting to me). When I checked a few of those theaters there were still more than a few seats available for the 7:00 -7:45pm showings and the later 10:00-10:45pm showings as well.

Solo may beat Deadpool 2 this weekend but it wont be by a whole lot. In fact there's a chance IT MIGHT NOT.

I'm a pretty hardcore STAR WARS fan (of the movies at least, not a fan of the EU stuff at all really...) and I cant muster enough interest to get tickets to go see this thing tonight or tomorrow. If I get reviews back from people that I trust and they are good? I'll go this weekend. If not? This will be the first Star Wars movie that I miss theatrically since I was 6 years old...

SERENITY wasn't bad but it wasn't exactly great either. My favorite thing about Serenity is THE OPERATIVE and how Mal solves the problem of defeating him. Otherwise? as a movie? It's okay.

I am finding it really hard to work up the excitement for this one. TLJ was such a disappointment for me, and that followed from a general Meh feeling I felt after watching TFA, I just feel like its just not worth the emotional investment. I am encouraged by what reviews I have seen, but I decided to skip going opening night. Maybe I catch it in a few days.

As someone who liked TFA and LOVES TLJ and am excited about Star Wars in general (I didn't expect a whole lot from Rogue One but wound up really enjoying that one), I find my ambivalence toward this SOLO movie odd. It just doesn't really spark any real excitement for me? I liked the second trailer but the excitement cooled for me considerably.

To be fair the two movies that I'm most looking forward to now that I've seen INFINITY WAR three times are THE INCREDIBLES 2 and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT.

There are a couple of smaller genre films that I'm looking forward to (UPGRADE and THE FIRST PURGE) and maybe ANT-MAN and the WASP and JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM.

Liberty's Edge

I just got back from seeing it. I really liked it. Thought everyone was good in it. I went in expecting a fun sci fi movie and thats what I got. I did'nt expect it to be the second coming, why alot of people expect that with Star Wars movies is beyond me.

Loved how stuff happens not excactly as you expect it to and when

Spoiler:
Darth Maul
showed up I smiled.

I do hope they do another solo Solo movie.

I’m absolutely fine with being in that minority.

I haven’t met anyone in real space who has the pure vitriol for TLJ that people online seem to. I’ve met people who have issues with the movie (as much as I love the movie I have issues with it as well) but not the “Kathleen Kennedy and Rian Johnson should never touch the franchise again” crazies that I see in online spaces. It’s fine not to like a movie, there are plenty that I don’t particularly care for. I simply don’t revisit those films or talk about them. The nutbags who start petitions to remove movies from canon or to have a director blacklisted from working on films again need to be ignored and never mentioned in the same sentence with rational fans. Those people aren’t fans (yes I know “fan” is short of fanatic but to the millions of others who don’t act in such a childish and embarrassing manner, they aren’t real fans?) they’re entitled manbabies who claim ownership in something that is not solely theirs.

TLJ has its issues, then again so does Empire (and I LOVE Empire). Definitely not the type of issues that warrant the online reaction that it’s gotten.

Also I’m looking at the box office and while I’m willing to admit that a portion of the people who saw the movie may not have liked it, you don’t make that kind of money off of single viewings of a film. People (like myself) sat through multiple veiwings of that movie. So I kinda don’t think that I’m really in the minority at all...

Saw it last night it was a fun space heist movie. I don't get the hate...or the empty theater. It is so much better than Last Jedi...great action...a storyline that makes sense...some surprises...etc.

My favorite things were...

:
Han shot first....and no amount of tinkering will change that.

Shinhakkaider, I'm absolutely right there with you--Star Wars fan, liked TFA and loved TLJ...

sidenote TLJ response blather:
..and was totally baffled by its reception online, especially given the enthusiastic responses to the film in the very full theater the two times I went to go see it, until I remembered obsessive Internet fans have their own thing going on. And yes, I even loved the Leia spacewalk. It was my favorite part and people in the theater clapped when it happened, and people who don't like it can go sit on a lightsaber for all I care about their opinion on the matter. I have avoided online discussion of TLJ like the plague because I absolutely just can't with the butthurt fanbois--and, note, will continue to do so, including not respond to responses to this spoiler...

... AND I feel weirdly ambivalent about Solo. The Star Wars Han Solo/scoundrel types are usually my favorite type of Star Wars character too (I almost always play a smuggler in SWRPGs). I mainly want to go see it because a friend does.

I think maybe I just feel like I need more of a break from Star Wars before I go back to it.
