Starfinder Masterclass Miniatures Partnership

Starfinder Masterclass Miniatures Partnership

Thursday, July 25, 2019

Three flaming skeletons with mouths open wide attacking a 4-armed, bipedal alien with grey skin and an angular face and dark pits for eyes. The alien's upper left arm is wielding some sort of yellow energy bolt. The silhouette of another adventurer looking on in horror can be seen in the foreground.

We have some really good news to share about the Starfinder Masterclass miniatures Kickstarter! Paizo is pleased to announce that Archon Studio will be taking over the license to produce Starfinder Masterclass miniatures, formerly produced by Ninja Division. As part of the agreement, Archon will fulfill backer rewards from the Starfinder Masterclass Kickstarter.

About Archon Studio: With their Unicast technology, Archon Studio has published several board games with miniatures, including League of Ancient Defenders, Vanguard of War, and Chronicle X. Recently, Archon Studio advanced its technology to hard plastic, which resulted in even more highly detailed miniatures.

Archon Studio also recently moved into the production of tabletop terrain with Rampart Wargaming. In August this year, its second tabletop terrain project, Dungeons & Lasers, is being launched on Kickstarter.

There are a few areas we want to highlight:

Archon Studio will be producing plastic miniatures instead of resin. They will also be starting over with Kickstarter fulfillment; this means that backers who have already received resin miniatures from Ninja Division will receive those minis again from Archon, this time in plastic.

Archon Studio plans to ship Kickstarter rewards in waves. Approximately every 6 months, the pledge rewards produced during the previous 6 months will be shipped to backers free of charge. Additionally, any time a Kickstarter backer purchases any Starfinder mini from Archon Studio—whether that’s a new mini or a duplicate of a Kickstarter mini—they will also ship any released Kickstarter miniatures due to that backer for no additional charge. Details of which minis are shipping when, and how to purchase other miniatures, will be posted on the Kickstarter page.

Archon Studio will be fulfilling backers in Europe, and Ninja Division will be shipping to the rest of the world. Paizo does not have specific answers to fulfillment questions: if you’re a backer with a question about your order, you’ll need to post the question to the Starfinder Masterclass Kickstarter page.

Thanks for all of your patience as we worked with Ninja Division and Archon to get this done. We’re looking forward to some epic minis!

My first order went smoothly and I got the mini I paid for plus one of each of the other six released in wave one.

I've placed a second order for one mini and sent in my backer information again however I haven't received it yet.

The only complaint I have about Archon is that there's no acknowledgement that they've got your kickstarter info and will be acting accordingly. I think I would have preferred if they'd handled it via a NDKickstarter coupon or similar. Presumably this works best for their systems, but given the previous experiences with this project, sending money off and then waiting makes me a little more nervous than usual.

I worry too that I will not get everything I pledged for as well as the add-ons I added. So far, ok, but we will see in the end. I will say that I thought they released their 2nd set quicker than I imagined, so I am hopeful I get everything before I’m retired.

So unfortunately Archon has confirmed that for the encounter packs, we will only see one miniature.

This is obviously disappointing as I was hoping a gang of Space Goblins infesting my gaming table would motivate my group to give Starfinder a second chance, not to mention getting what I backed.
I don't blame Archon and appreciate the fact that they are st least communicating with us regularly on Facebook.

I've reached out to Archon's CEO for a clarification on this. I'll let you know as soon as I hear something back.

Hi Jim, I realise we are in the holiday period, but any news?

Nothing yet. I'm not sure what they're doing for the holidays, but I've followed up on that email again and will do so again next week after we've cleared the holiday madness.

What about the encounter packs that had 4 different minis (like the outlaws and protectors) or two different types (like the formorians workers and warriors)... also the fleet packs?

So Archon Studios sent an email today asking for us to go to their website to take a survey. They are asking us, with a 100+ mini release, here's the test:

As you know, Archon Studio is manufacturing and releasing Starfinder RPG miniatures in hard plastic. We are producing models from Starfinder Masterclass Miniatures Kickstarter. We have over 100 miniatures to make, and we manufacture them in waves.

To deliver most demanded by the community models first, we have created a survey on our website. It's anonymous and allows you to choose multiply models. Just point us which minis YOU need released first.

Results of this survey will shape our release schedule.

Yes, Archon created a thread about this in these forums.

So got the second wave in. Once again got the extra from the Kickstarter for free but had no idea if it was coming in the package since Archon never told me.

Unsure if Archon-Studio is making the Dragon.

I don't know if you know already (haven't read all the replies), but I noticed in Archon's survey of what they should put out first DOES have the dragon on the survey list.

From an email from Dave at Archon

"At the minute yes, we are currently looking into the matter, this ismainly down to the way that the minis were tooled. As this mini was printed on the same tool as all of the other wave 2 mins, this would mean that extra wave 2 minis will need to be printed to facilitate all of the Skittermander minis."

This to me is really bad from a planning perspective as they knew in advance that to satisfy the kickstarter they would need multiple of some minis.

I noticed that as well.

I have tried to tell Archon that a few times. When I posed the problem on Archon’s new thread, Michal said it was “Irrelevant “.

I got my first and second wave while buying Elzebo and Zo!

I like the miniatures and Archon has done well so far.
Thank you Archon-people and thanks to the Paizo team that made a solution.

I hope it will continue being nice.

Has anyone received any package from ND so far ?

Ha! Good one.

Edit: Sorry. It occurred to me a second later that your comment might not be intended as snark.

well, i am one of those backers waiting for ND to send me the minis, no word from them since Archon took over.

So snark Yes and no, i bet ND isnt fulfilling his obligations...

ND isn't behind on this step yet. Archon is at present almost months behind their stated plans. Ninja Division is to ship minis come mid-April if we're being charitable.

I fully expect Ninja Division to fail because a man swollen with denial like Cadice will inevitably run aground of reality. When he fails again we'll see what Paizo does with this albatross.

Feel like it's been a minute since the second set of figures were released. Interested to see what the next set will be.

6 months ago yesterday us KS backers were told that every approximately 6 months the pledge rewards produced in the last 6 months would be shipped to us, free of charge.

When did that 6 month timer start? What happens if there is failure to deliver at that point? Is giving us the option to cash out for Paizobux an option Paizo would ever consider in all this?

So far, I've still received nothing.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Pathfinder Accessories, Rulebook Subscriber; Pathfinder Battles Case Subscriber

I've received nothing as well. I've been hesitant to order directly from Archon but I am also oddly intrigued as to whether or not ND can hold up their end of this agreement....

I believe that's a foregone conclusion.

Wow does time fly....so we are coming up on 3 months since any offical update on the kickstarter page...only on wave 2 of minis...maybe if I'm really lucky I'll get what I paid for years ago...plus shipping will arrive before I have to file taxes in 2021...

Deadlines are already passing by, Archon have clammed up at the Encounter Pack Question, and Paizo is wild shaped into an Ostrich.

It sure would be nice to get some kind of progress update.
Hello Paizo...are you there?
Archon folks, we know you visit these forums, do you have any update?
Ninja Division? Just kidding, we know you have nothing to add.

Apparently there will be news on Monday.

https://www.facebook.com/archonstudio/posts_to_page/

"Jarek Ewertowski Yes, wave 3 will be announced Monday"

And another Monday has come and gone....so much for keeping to that dead line....

It’s only 5pm Monday here.

Hopefully it's just delayed a day or two.

This entire project has been nothing but delays or shell game events...this is a huge reason I'm not buying any PF2 stuff or any new starfinder products till I receive what I was promised

So...hows that two day delay treating everyone.....at this point I think I have a better chance of finding toilet paper here in the US today than hearing any update on wave 3...

I've heard back from Archon Studio, and they're working on the Wave 3 announcement now. They estimate it will be a few days before they can release all the details.

Thanks Jim!

Until they are up to Wave 6 and shipping me something, I don't care.

Appreciate you digging into it for us.

Will we be getting the shipment now that we're 6 months in as promised, or is the chain of falsehood getting another link?

technarken wrote:

I'd be shocked if that were the case. IIRC the initial announcement was that they'd be doing monthly releases and they're obviously behind on that already. With them footing the bill for shipping, it doesn't make financial sense for them to ship out stuff to backers entirely on their own dime. I'm not defending ND's horrible handling of the project but backers are unfortunately at the largesse of Archon and in no position to demand anything. Getting anything ever at this point is a win due to the initial incompetence surrounding this project and it has to be worth it for Archon to do so as they have their own history of treating their AVP backers and project with disdain when it suits them.

How about maybe don't make promises until you know you can keep them, or maybe make gaining control of the line of communication so you can keep people in the loop a priority? Archon voluntarily took on this task, likely as part of getting the IP license. Am I out of line for having a expectation of mere competence here, as someone who has literally hundreds sunk into this?

Staying quiet doesn't work either because then we complain that we're out of the loop and that there is no progress. I fully agree with not making promises that you can't or don't feel like keeping though but that ship has sailed years ago for Archon. One of my first posts on this forum (not that I have too many outside this thread) was to warn people not to get their hopes up too high with the announcement that Archon/Prodos were taking over for Ninja Division due to my following their AVP debacle and the aftermath. I don't think you're out of line at all and I've been there myself with another project (the first I ever backed and the reason I don't back projects anymore). I'm simply trying to post realistic expectations/answers to questions like the one you posed. With them already being behind on their "monthly" miniature releases, my opinion is that you shouldn't expect a free catchup shipment until probably the end of the year at best. YMMV.

Just checking in. Appreciate technarken keeping people honest.

See that still no news and no confirmed change in plans/deadlines even though it is apparent that time frames have shifted. Believe this horse is a skeleton but we can keep beating it. Information up front goes a long way to keeping customers..... informed. Lack of information has a tendancy to turn into pitch forks and no one wants that.

Greetings, all. I heard back from Archon Studio today.

All shipping has been stopped from Poland as they wait out the coronavirus. In addition, they're also out of the masks they use in the production of miniatures (so tooling of the next wave cannot begin). Everything is on hold for now, and they'll update us when they have news to report.

Good Gaming!

-Jim

I’ve not had any emails, KS updates or product. Who should I contact?

Checking in after several months and still seems like a big fat nothing. At least I've stopped blowing money on Paizo stuff after this debacle.

In their defense, Covid-19 has happened in some of those months. Granted:they were behind on fulfillment before the virus, but the past couple months they at least have a good excuse for not getting anything done.

As for now? Ninja Division lack the baseline intellect to operate an electronic device of higher complexity than a pager, so there's been no update from them on the KS page about any delays whatsoever. We're now 5 months away from their last communication with us, and 3 months out from the last time they even logged into the site. If they delay much longer, I might just do my civic duty and file missing persons reports for 'em.

FWIW, they said on facebook that they had reduced capacity due to the postal shutdown in Poland and then later announced that they switched over to manufacturing facemasks and PPE for domestic use for the time being. It's frustrating but until the pandemic is over tabletop gaming production takes a backseat to other stuff.

Checking in, Appears that there has been no movement in over a month, going on 2.

I get that poland shut down international shipping. Not alot can be done about that, but 2 months and no update.

It gets frustrating that we have to prompt for any kind of information on this.
