Starfinder Masterclass Miniatures Partnership

Three flaming skeletons with mouths open wide attacking a 4-armed, bipedal alien with grey skin and an angular face and dark pits for eyes. The alien's upper left arm is wielding some sort of yellow energy bolt. The silhouette of another adventurer looking on in horror can be seen in the foreground.

We have some really good news to share about the Starfinder Masterclass miniatures Kickstarter! Paizo is pleased to announce that Archon Studio will be taking over the license to produce Starfinder Masterclass miniatures, formerly produced by Ninja Division. As part of the agreement, Archon will fulfill backer rewards from the Starfinder Masterclass Kickstarter.

About Archon Studio: With their Unicast technology, Archon Studio has published several board games with miniatures, including League of Ancient Defenders, Vanguard of War, and Chronicle X. Recently, Archon Studio advanced its technology to hard plastic, which resulted in even more highly detailed miniatures.

Archon Studio also recently moved into the production of tabletop terrain with Rampart Wargaming. In August this year, its second tabletop terrain project, Dungeons & Lasers, is being launched on Kickstarter.

There are a few areas we want to highlight:

Archon Studio will be producing plastic miniatures instead of resin. They will also be starting over with Kickstarter fulfillment; this means that backers who have already received resin miniatures from Ninja Division will receive those minis again from Archon, this time in plastic.

Archon Studio plans to ship Kickstarter rewards in waves. Approximately every 6 months, the pledge rewards produced during the previous 6 months will be shipped to backers free of charge. Additionally, any time a Kickstarter backer purchases any Starfinder mini from Archon Studio—whether that’s a new mini or a duplicate of a Kickstarter mini—they will also ship any released Kickstarter miniatures due to that backer for no additional charge. Details of which minis are shipping when, and how to purchase other miniatures, will be posted on the Kickstarter page.

Archon Studio will be fulfilling backers in Europe, and Ninja Division will be shipping to the rest of the world. Paizo does not have specific answers to fulfillment questions: if you’re a backer with a question about your order, you’ll need to post the question to the Starfinder Masterclass Kickstarter page.

Thanks for all of your patience as we worked with Ninja Division and Archon to get this done. We’re looking forward to some epic minis!

Thanks for regularly updating here!

I'll consider ordering something from Archon in the next months, but everytime i think of Starfinder or play it i think of this Ninja Division Mess.
While i am able to move on, it still is highly aggravating, especially considering the level of enthusiasm i met it with.

Honestly, I'm bypassing Archon and the legacy of this mess entirely and holding out for Starfinder Battles full release.

This is what I’ve done. I’ve written off what I spent at Ninja Division. I ended up with about eight figures through them, I guess, so that’s about $75 each. :o

By keeping tabs on it, I found it made me enjoy Starfinder less. By moving on, it’s back to my (current) favourite system.

I’m not confident Starfinder Battles will last long term, but I’m hoping for three sets in the next couple of years.

Hey folks! Wanted to let you all know that we've had some good conversations with Archon and things are starting to move forward on their side again. Look for a post from them in the next week or so outlining where they are and what to expect in the coming months.

Archon has released their Wave 3 miniatures on their site and they include the Lashunta Envoy, Android Mechanic & Mechanic's Drone, Halfling Pilot, and the Human Solarian.

Jeff the last 2 waves had allowed Kickstarter supporters a method to order their exclusive mini and get the rest for free. Is there a method again this time for Kickstarter supporters to get some of the minis for free?

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I hope there is! I went all in and have nothing at all yet. Thought of waiting until they finish, but at this speed?

Hi guys!
I'm Kamil - Social Media ninja sent by Archon Studio. If you have any questions about the miniatures - feel free to ask :D

Thanks for showing up, when might backers see a shipment without ordering something new?

Also, will all the completed be shipped if someone orders something new this time also?

What timeline do you expect for completion? I realize this may be an impossible question.

Unfortunately this wave doesn't have a brand new mini associated with it so it's just the 4 from the crowdfunding campaign. And it's a little unclear whether they will have brand new minis associated with waves 4-6, so your best options are to continue to wait for wave 6's release and then you will get everything up to that point shipped to you or you can, at any time, make a purchase on their site of anything and get everything up through wave 3 shipped to you.

Here's your answers...

You would need to wait for the release of wave 6, and at that point you would be sent the minis from waves 1-6 that were in the crowdfunding.

Also, will all the completed be shipped if someone orders something new this time also?
Yes, if you make a purchase on their site and supply them with the appropriate info so they can confirm your status, they will ship everything from the crowdfunding that's been released that you qualify for along with your purchase.

What timeline do you expect for completion? I realize this may be an impossible question.
We have no idea as we are not the ones manufacturing these.

That last answer... confuses me a bit.

Yeah, I thought they were the manufactures... If they are not then I am confused about the business relationship between them an ND.

Yes, they are the manufacturers of the minis but I work at Paizo, so I don't have access to their production schedules. So I don't know.

Nope, just trying to do my part to keep you all informed as best I can. There is an Archon person on here, Kamil_ArchonStudio, and they should be able to give more specific answers from their side of things. But be forewarned that production sounds like it's pretty fluid there still and concrete dates are not likely.

Silver Crusade

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the update. I have continued to play Starfinder.

Due to the length of time that most have waited, Archon should do an annual shipping of backers minis. At least that would help to see that there is some progress on the manufacturing. I am one of the mid-range backers and am expecting my minis by 2030 at the current rate.

Quiet week so no new updates.

Just posting a comment to see if I start getting notification of these updates (or lack thereof), since I don't see a way to follow a thread without returning here constantly.

You can list the thread and to receive notifications you have to create a list and then list the first post.
There's this button "list" between flag and reply in the upper right corner of every post, right over the + to favorite them.
You then only have to check the lists.

Paizo forums aren't that bad, they have some usability :P

Well...its been a wild and jacked up few months for me...thanks for that btw...

But I see we are now about a year since wave 3 was announced / released? Just wondering if this is the trend so I will stop hopeing to see any minis before the year 2023

Kamil_ArchonStudio will have to comment on this as we have limited insight into their production and release timing.

I love that an Archon rep literally makes a new profile, posts one time offering to answer questions, and then just pulls a 'peace out', never posting anything anywhere in this entire forum again.

I understand that Archon effectively offered to 'rescue' a lot of backers from something that would have otherwise been a total wash, but the communication could certainly use some work.

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I'm starting to think that Ninja division should have stl files or models from the kickstarter and those should be released to the backers, so we can print them ourselves. Or have them printed.

Not sure what Archon is actually doing, wether the models need more work, aren't finished or they give them an overhaul.
Those published so far do look different than the pictures on the kickstarter a bit.

ND did not have all the sculpts done when the deal with Archon was made, and a lot of those that were 'done' had to be redone by Archon.

Have to wonder if we will ever see these outside of buying them.

The WizKids Planets of Peril line is truely beautiful. Still sad that this was a gate for me not to play the game, but ah well. At this point I doubt I will ever play. Would however bring these to Paizo Con and trade/give to people who look like they would enjoy them more than me if they ever do deliver.

Paizo Employee President

Hey Folks. Apologies that I missed posting last week but the days just ran together and it was already Monday evening of this week before I realized I'd missed commenting. Has this kickstarter been lost in the Gap?

I have an all-in pledge amount, and at this current rate of release, wonder if there will ever will be fulfillment...

What should I expect? The kickstarter campaign closed on Oct 17, 2017, with stated fulfillment May 2018.

Well, if we do some figuring...

At present Archon has 16 Miniatures from the campaign available for sale (I am counting the Drone as a separate miniature and not counting the named NPCs).

The Kickstarter has 103 individual miniature designs (104 if you count Ryophorians as 2).

In the 21 month space of Archon's involvement of the project they have completed 16% of the project (rounding up from 15.5).

At present pace they could be completed as early as Christmas 2025.

That would even work for me.

In hindsight i have to say though, compared to a lot of others, this kickstarter was very expensive right from the start.

It's a good thing the backers gave Ninja Division over half a million dollars then, isn't it?

I'm definitely not happy with that decision.

Jeff - Ninja Division hasn't updated their KS page in over 10 months. As a US backer, I have absolutely no confidence in their ability that they can or will be able to ship Wave 1 out once (or if) Archon completes it.

You haven't received any updates from ND or Archon 'lately'; Archon's 'social media ninja' hasn't posted anything since their first intro message months ago.

This project is beyond dead - don't know how you can disagree given that you say you don't know more than we do based on your 'no news this week' posts.

Appreciate you trying to update us, but no news is still no news. I get Paizo is trying, but the others aren't.

Any chance the backers can get access to the STLs or anything? Is there something Paizo can do to help Archon be more successful with their StarFinder minis sales (ex: allow direct orders from your store) so they will be able to afford continuing working on the KS?

Thanks

Archon is working on the next wave of figures as far as we understand, but COVID hit them really very hard. Our main contact there had COVID and was very, very sick. He also lost both of his neighbors to it, so you can see how that might put a bit of a delay in things.

As for doing anything with the STLs, that's not something we've really discussed because Archon is still committed to completing the minis project.

While I don't have a resin 3d printer, and I believe the majority of people who buy physical mini's like the quality of physical minis? I think getting the original STL's out into the wild would do quite a bit to show good faith for the people who backed the project. I think at this point most of us assume we will never see anything from our investment.

If people who have resin 3d printers had the chance to print their own from this campaign I personally would feel like at least SOME of us got something out of it.

At this point I wish Paizo had absolutely nothing to do with Ninja Division. With Wizkids putting out quality mini's I hope you guys pull that license as quickly as possible. I see red when I go through the mini's on the site and see the Ninja Division listings posted...

I appreciate what Archon is doing, but even if they do manage to get a wave ready to ship? I have NO faith that Ninja Division has any intentions of spending their stolen cash to ship them to the backers.

Hey, Paizo doesn't want to breach contract, even if Ninja Division is actively flipping off the contract and spitting in their face, Cadice might suddenly become competent enough to pursue legal action if Paizo so much as sneezes back

Not to defend them, but ND didn't steal the cash—they misappropriated and mismanaged it. No one from that company (using the term loosely) enriched themselves and several of their officers claimed to have taken on additional debt to try to keep their enterprise afloat.

That said, I also have very little faith that ND will be able to ship what Archon eventually sends them. What little faith there is is based on the fact that they have continued to make and sell other products and so may have some funds available when the time comes.

Archon has produced a few original Starfinder minis that are pretty nice. I may just order those and, since Archon is willing to send kickstarter minis with other purchases, bypass ND altogether.

While taking pressure off ND pains the revenge-minded side of me, this would have multiple benefits:
-Supporting Archon. They've had a rough past, but really stepped up for this kickstarter when they did not have to.
-Reduced pressure on ND may mean that one other person actually gets their minis
-I won't have to see ND's name or logo on a box on my doorstep and risk smashing or burning the contents

Going to have to agree to disagree on the thieving aspect. When they create a kickstarter, take the money from that kickstarter backers with every intention of using that money to try to complete previous kickstarters and fail at all of them? That is falsely representing your intentions and stealing money from investors to try to fund a failing pyramid scheme of failed kickstarters.

Agree about Archon, I had my reservations about them but over the last 2 years they have proven to me that they will follow through on their commitments. Even if at a much slower pace than any of us would like when it comes to these minis. I would never recommend anyone ELSE back any kickstarters though after getting burned on a few it is a pledge at your own risk. But I backed Dungeons and Lasers 1 and 2. 1 delivered flawlessly for me and 2 is in the mail on the way to me now.

Oh, as I've stated before in this thread, ND committed fraud, but (to me and most legal systems) that's different from theft.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Pathfinder Accessories, Rulebook Subscriber; Pathfinder Battles Case Subscriber

Misappropriation is a big word for theft. It just allows people who have privilege to get away with it.
