Starfinder Masterclass Miniatures Partnership

Starfinder Masterclass Miniatures Partnership

Three flaming skeletons with mouths open wide attacking a 4-armed, bipedal alien with grey skin and an angular face and dark pits for eyes. The alien's upper left arm is wielding some sort of yellow energy bolt. The silhouette of another adventurer looking on in horror can be seen in the foreground.

We have some really good news to share about the Starfinder Masterclass miniatures Kickstarter! Paizo is pleased to announce that Archon Studio will be taking over the license to produce Starfinder Masterclass miniatures, formerly produced by Ninja Division. As part of the agreement, Archon will fulfill backer rewards from the Starfinder Masterclass Kickstarter.

About Archon Studio: With their Unicast technology, Archon Studio has published several board games with miniatures, including League of Ancient Defenders, Vanguard of War, and Chronicle X. Recently, Archon Studio advanced its technology to hard plastic, which resulted in even more highly detailed miniatures.

Archon Studio also recently moved into the production of tabletop terrain with Rampart Wargaming. In August this year, its second tabletop terrain project, Dungeons & Lasers, is being launched on Kickstarter.

There are a few areas we want to highlight:

Archon Studio will be producing plastic miniatures instead of resin. They will also be starting over with Kickstarter fulfillment; this means that backers who have already received resin miniatures from Ninja Division will receive those minis again from Archon, this time in plastic.

Archon Studio plans to ship Kickstarter rewards in waves. Approximately every 6 months, the pledge rewards produced during the previous 6 months will be shipped to backers free of charge. Additionally, any time a Kickstarter backer purchases any Starfinder mini from Archon Studio—whether that’s a new mini or a duplicate of a Kickstarter mini—they will also ship any released Kickstarter miniatures due to that backer for no additional charge. Details of which minis are shipping when, and how to purchase other miniatures, will be posted on the Kickstarter page.

Archon Studio will be fulfilling backers in Europe, and Ninja Division will be shipping to the rest of the world. Paizo does not have specific answers to fulfillment questions: if you’re a backer with a question about your order, you’ll need to post the question to the Starfinder Masterclass Kickstarter page.

Thanks for all of your patience as we worked with Ninja Division and Archon to get this done. We’re looking forward to some epic minis!

Those posts are both very old at this point. The latest one on 8/26, over a month ago. And neither provide anything of value. There is still no indication of when anything will be received.

Yep...same post as on the kickstarter, but nothing new from anyone in over a month. Also it was pointed out that 2 weeks ago paizo poked them to post an update...so far goose egg...maybe I should go back to posting daily updates on the lack of communications again.

43 days and counting...

An update. In my feels I've written this off as a loss. As a customer I won't let it go and will come back from time to time to remind people that there are real people behind the numbers and where I could have sunk just as much money into Starfinder as I do into Pathfinder it is now a loss of revenue because of a failed project

Thanks for the info, and I feel the same way. Over $400 was a very expensive lesson.

Can someone confirm this....

As per a post from ninja division on super dungeon kickstarter.

- Starfinder is now fully moved over to Archon and no longer pulling attention and resources

If this is true are we getting our shipping fees back as they seem to be done with this project...cause if not that's frad strait up...

Great product piazo...crap licencing partners....and will the love of God someone give us a non smoke screen answer about wtfbbqsauce is going on with this project and where my money has gone.

No, don't you see? It isn't fraud so long as you say you have every intention of fulfilling the project, even if you know you can't, even if you take steps to ensure you won't. All you have to do is say you have every intention of fulfilling the project, and you are golden on grifting hundreds of thousands.

Oh, before I forget...44 days and counting.

- If you are a Kickstarter backer, all you have to do is purchase any one of these minis and we will send you all of the original Starfinder ones. For example: order Zo! And you will get the other 6 minis for free. More info about Kickstarter fulfilment can be found.....

All I have to say is WTF...now I have pay more to get my order...

Time zones are wonderful things, but it does make it harder to synch messaging. You should see the an update on the Starfinder Masterclass Miniatures kickstarter page soon. For now, you can read about it on at Archon:

Starfinder On Sale

As revealed previously, Archon will be releasing miniatures monthly, along with one brand new mini. If you're a backer, you can purchase the new mini and they'll send you any others from your pledge that are part of this month's release. Full details on how that process works are here:

You don't have to make a purchase to receive your miniatures. The minis will be sent out in waves (roughly every 6 months) after they've produced enough of them to make the shiping viable.

Is that true for international backers too?

I don’t want to trust delivery to ND - they still don’t have any money, so how are they going to send me my minis?

If I order one from archon directly, will my half dozen minis bypass ND and be shipped to me directly here in Australia?

Hey Steve. Archon will be shipping to all backers outside of the USA and ND will ship to everyone in the USA. ND has told us they've set aside funds from sales of their current stuff to handle the domestic fulfillment.

Yeah.... but ND has said a lot of things.

Still, here's hoping we'll see some minis eventually.

I asked Archon politely on their Facebook page today this...

“For the Backers of these, if we don’t buy Zo! When will we expect to get the minis?”

After clarifying I was asking when not how and an answer we don’t know yet is acceptable, I got a polite reply.

“Let me start with that we as Archon are not getting paid by Ninja Divison or anyone else to make these models for KS backers. In fact, we even paid for the license to make these models for the mass market. So we are really doing it our of our own free will and financially from our own pocket. At this stage, it's impossible to say by when we will have 1st 6 waves, the plan is to make a wave every month that will include 6 to 7 models per wave, but again it depends on how our internal finances.”

Holy Crap! Technarken they responded about transferring pledges on the kickstarter comments. Took a screen grab of it. You may be able to transfer if you find someone to buy it off of you. Case by Case basis.

edit to add:
After they directly insulted you calling you names. Jebus, they must really want the disdain of our community at this point.

We told you day 1 who you were getting into business with. Maybe next time your customers raise some red flags you will listen to the people loyal to you and actually looking out for your interests.

I have this funny feeling that Technarken will not make it through this "case-by-case" basis should they try to transfer their pledge.

Ok i have to ask....does anyone at Paizo even look at the kickstarter? do you even see what your "partner" is posting to your customer base.

1. Is paizo ok with this?
2. Is Archon ok with this?
3. Your lack of action seems to encourage them to be belligerent to the paizo customer base.
4. I for one due to this blatant disrespect from your "partner" will never purchase a single PF2 item and will for the foreseeable future no longer purchase any Starfinder items till some tangible action and apology happens to this said "Partner"

Note: i wish no ill will on Paizo or Archon but you guys are only as good as the company you keep as they say...and let you tell you one group in your little trinity is dragging you way down and trashing your reps.

When I emailed them I got an autoreply directing me to contact Archon and a doc file explaining how to change shipping address, so I guess there we have it.

I really like that Zo!! figure, and will probably order straight from Archon to get it, and some of my pledge. Just mulling over if I should just wait til next month. I wonder if there is some way to know what else is coming?

Not really. The deal is to get us some other stuff. What we pledged for never eventuated.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate paizo's efforts in facilitating a consolation prize (and archon's for that matter). But we're not "getting our stuff".

From my perspective, this project failed and has been replaced with something else. What I'm getting is different than what I wanted (and worse) but it's more than I expected six months ago.

My opprobrium is pretty much reserved for ND at this stage. I consider the other parties to be victims of their negligence at best and possibly deceit.

Hi Jeff

Just to close this off, Archon just confirmed to me that ND are doing everything outside of the EU, not just the US. (So I’m stuck with them).

I’m even more despondent now - ND are putting aside funds for US domestic shipments and Archon are expecting them to fulfill international orders to Australia.

That’s a recipe for further “unexpected” cash shortfalls.

Okay, Archon don’t know either.

They told me ND would be shipping my pledge to me, even if I ordered Zo!
Then they told me they can ship to me directly if I order Zo!

This is ridiculous.

Ninja Division think they’re only doing US shipping and have budgeted accordingly:

Jeff Alvarez wrote:

With international shipping being what it is, there’s no way they’re going to stretch to cover a whole bunch of unexpected backers.

I emailed Archon about what would happen if I ordered Zo! from them in order to get an interim Kickstarter shipment without going through ND and they replied with two conflicting answers: one saying they would ship to me directly and one saying they wouldn’t.

This was advertised as a feature of the new deal, yet nobody can answer the simple question:

If an Australian orders Zo! and thus get an interim shipment of available Kickstarter minis, who is going to ship them?

Or rather multiple people will offer conflicting answers.

Ninja Division think they’re only shipping to thee US, Archon think they’re only shipping to Europe. Augurs well.

So Steve, what you are telling me, is that we have just as much coordination in this project now as we ever have before, and while I feel your pain for the Aussie shipping quandry?

Do we really believe ND set aside any funds to ship anything anywhere?

Just because they say they are shipping to the US, doesn't mean those shipments will leave their offices. Remember all those pictures of packages ready to completely fulfill wave 1 that never shipped? More likely they will say they shipped them with no tracking, take the stock and hawk it at the next convention they go to and use those funds to try to fix previous kickstarters by directly depositing them into their own bank accounts and then be confused why none of the kick starters ever finished.

This is the amount of hope I have. As a US backer I am contemplating ordering Zo just to see what happens.

So, anybody out there still interested in buying an All-In Pledge of disassembled miniatures?

25% off, for $300 it could be yours.

Greetings, all. I reached out to Archon Studios to clarify the questions posed here and this is what they've told me.

What's going on with the store? Why can't I order miniatures?

The plan was to start on the 14th, but now they need to migrate the servers to support the new platform. They expect that process to be complete in the next 24 hours or so.

If a Kickstarter backer purchases Zo, will Archon ship both Zo and their pledged miniatures at the same time? If yes, does this apply to backers worldwide? If no, how does that process work?

Yes, Archon Studio will ship the new miniature, plus all currently produced miniatures produced that match your pledge level.

What if a Kickstarter backer does not purchase any of the new figures from Archon Studio?

Miniatures will be shipped after (roughly) 6 monthly waves. Shipping is handled as follows:

-Archon Studio fulfills EU orders

In addition, If you backed an Archon Studio Kickstarter and are waiting for those items, they will ship any outstanding Ninja Division minis to you worldwide once those products ship.

Ninja Division will fulfill NA and Rest of World

I know there's been some concern about how Ninja Division can afford shipping charges. It's my understanding that they've set money aside from their Humble Bundles and from their ongoing sales to pay for shipping.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks so much for reaching out the Archon on our behalf. It is appreciated.

This may be a stupid question or perhaps answered elsewhere? But...If you do order the miniature from Archon, how do they know that you're a Kickstarter backer to send the rest along with it?

According to Archon's CS guy, you'll need to include a note to that effect when you place your order with them.

My plan is to submit the order (together with such a note) then email their customer service address referencing the Archon order number and spelling out my kickstarter pledge level, plus add-ons, plus confirming that I'm using the same email address on both kickstarter and the Archon website.

That is supposed to be sufficient, although as noted above I have been receiving conflicting statements from them so far. I won't have confidence until after I actually place an order for Zo! and see what transpires.

Is there a way to demonstrate that Ninja Division has the capacity to do anything they claim to? Can you provide some sort of official proof they actually have any money for shipping? If they "run out of bubble wrap" or "can't find the GO button" is Paizo prepared to either shoulder the shipping burden or find yet another company willing to do so?

Please understand these guys are the reason this project is now 24 months behind schedule, it's a little hard for me to believe in this baseline level of competence from ND. It is especially difficult because the main obstacle I've had finding someone to buy my pledge has been the fact that ND IS STILL INVOLVED WITH SHIPPING. Potentially interested people don't trust them to ship a blasted thing at this point.

You might also want to check your secret contract to figure out if intentionally ignoring the backers can be considered evidence of bad faith. We can see how frequently they log on, so we can tell that someone over there does a lot of lurking.

So if you're outside of the EU, but you really don't want your minis shipped by ND, you could buy a single mini from Archon before wave 6 is released, and Archon will ship your first 5 waves of backer minis along with the one you're ordering.

I definitely don't trust ND with delivery I will be doing the Archon offer when you buy through them.

Edit: Now I just need to wait for their store to be fixed so I can order Zo!

Can I get my Kickstarter Shipping Charge refunded if I do this, considering ND would at that point be completely uninvolved in the fulfillment?

I spoke with Ninja Division and they are unable to offer refunds on shipping (even if you purchase your minis directly through Archon to avoid the wait).

I look forward to the inevitable "We ran out of bubble wrap" postings in 6 months, followed by 3 months of ghosting then.

And why exactly? Are the funds already spent on other things?
