I am having a difficult week. My posting will be spotty for a while. Please bot me as needed.

I did not forget about the campaign. I'm just waiting for Fuìn to post so we can continue. Or I can roll his Will save for him and continue from there.
His "difficult week" implies he should be back by now, but it's been quiet lately. I'll update tomorrow. Do people want an update post in the meanwhile?
Kvit the Ruin Delver |
Since we're failing amazingly at the ritual research front, I'm kind of at a loss on what to do next. Other than trying the more physical route of making Fuìn walk in one direction long enough that the denizen has to follow.

Though I like the narrative tension, I think you're overcomplicating things. I'll try to nudge you in the right direction this evening, once I'm back at my computer.
GM Kwinten |
Quick question: with Fuìn AFK for the moment, what do people want to do with him in combat? Should I just leave him out until he rejoins? I think that's the cleanest option.
On the other hand, the curse makes it so that people's attitudes against him are worse than they would be against the rest of the party, making him get targeted more often. Leaving him out kinda defeats the purpose of him being cursed.
And if some is botting him, should I do that? Or does anyone want to control him for me? I don't mind doing so, but I'm already keeping track of several things. Plus, I might not be entirely impartial. I'll try my best not to play him suboptimally (or play into my own hand), but I can't guarantee it.
Kka Magwi |
I say we leave him.
Then, if player is ready, he comes back.
=)
Sounds good to me.
Kvit the Ruin Delver |
It doesn't seem super fair to target him more while they are AFK. Though story/curse-wise it makes sense for that to happen.
We could say he's in the area/combat but just vaguely, until they come back. That way they are around to jump back in and combat will be cleaner without the botting.

I'm so sorry for the radio silence. The bad week turned into a bad month, but that doesn't excuse my lack of response. Honestly the longer time went on, the more ashamed I felt for not talking to you all, which turned into a nasty cycle. I'm really, really sorry for that.
I'm also sorry because I have to bow out. My mental health has taken a serious hit this month; not because of any one particular event or anything, but my brain never needed an excuse to spiral. For various reasons (none of which are any of you, don't worry) posting has become immensely stressful over the past few months. I have decided to take an indefinite hiatus from play-by-post.
Despite the stress, I enjoyed playing with all of you immensely, especially under the guidance of GM Kwinten. You're easily one of the best GM's I've ever had in pbp.
I wish you all the best, and happy gaming.

Wishing you the best Apoc Golem!
My own hiatus from the game was equally unexpected, and I feel you on the shame bit.
You have been one of my favorite posters to read, and your character’s brand of crazy will be missed.
My favorite post was when you started rocking out to that band a level up - such a fun time.
Best of luck to your and your mental!
Kvit the Ruin Delver |
Sorry to hear you're having a hard time. I know what you mean about noy posting, then feeling ashamed for not posting, and then it's even more difficult to post.
Good luck to you and your mental health. I enjoyed Fuìn as a character and how you played them. They and you will be missed. We still plan on saving him from the Denizen so don't worry!
Kka Magwi |
It's unfortunate how real life sometimes comes out of nowhere and smacks you in the head. I'll be sorry to see you go, but it's quite understandable under the circumstances and should not be a source of shame. We'll power on without Fuìn, but it won't be as much fun. Take care and get better soon.

Thank you for posting and communicating your needs. I know the shame-spiral, I've been there before. You miss a few posts, sure, but then they start to hit the double digits and each one starts to feel like an accusation. But don't worry, it happens. And as I said, thanks for mustering up the courage to post anyway and communicating your needs. I hope things get better for you soon! You're of course free to rejoin whenever you feel like, but there's absolutely no shame in taking time off for yourself. I really enjoyed GMing for you, Fuìn is a fun character and you played him well.
---
To the others: This is actually a pretty good spot for Fuìn to disappear. The Denizen cursed him and he's too ashamed to show himself in public again.
Fuìn has some wealth on him. He dropped in with some amount of "free" money, but I don't think that unbalances things three levels later. Should Fuìn return before the end of the level, he obviously gets to keep all his equipment, but if not, I say you get to sell all his gear at 100% of the price and distribute that over the four of you. Does that sound good?
Alternatively, there's the option of adding another PC to the game, so a dropout won't result in a three-person party (though I'd suggest adding them after this level). They can get all of Fuìn's money for their character. But it'll be difficult to find someone willing to join for the final book in the story. What do you think?

I agreem four is okay for now, Cherry will just have to pull out some more offense.

I'll ditto the going on with just the four of us for the rest of this level. It'll be just like the good (bad?) old days. Who knows, Kka might get to visit with Libitina again soon; something to look forward to.

Hey gang,
(Posting this in all my PbP games)
Going to be travelling tomorrow and through the weekend, meaning my posting should slow and be "lower tech" than usual, and following that, I will be attending Gencon in person (end of July through early August), slowing again. But yeah, gunna do my best to keep up.
Cheers.

3x Spellstrike Arrow Type III
Assume these are empty and ready to cast a spell into.
1x Explosive Ammunition? (Arrow) Its a level 9 item, so not sure this is the correct item.
3x Young red dragon's breath potion AKA Lesser Energy Breath Potion (Fire). 15ft cone, 4d6 fire, DC23 (Basic Reflex)
[Edit] - Also added them to the loot sheet.

Yep, the arrows are empty. And the level 9 item is correct. It's above your level, but a single consumable shouldn't break the game too much.
Thanks for linking!

In off topic news. I finally got around to setting up an RSS feed for the forum posts here. It turned out to be much easier than I thought. I used an app called "Feeder".
Then searched with the direct link to the gameplay tab and was able to add both the discussion tab and the gameplay tab.
It doesn't show me the content in the app (there might be another setting somewhere for that), but at least now I get a notification there's a new post.

I'm totally fine with escorting her out if that's what we want to do. No skin off Kvit's back if she gets in trouble again, lol. Kvit will just definitely be complaining about the stairs repeatedly.
Do we think she can help us or give us any other information? Or be useful later? Maybe we should go back just to warn Caarman and ask why he might be wanted by the underworld?

I'm heading out to vacation tomorrow for the next week. My access, and my ability to remember to access, the internet will be limited.
rainzax |
I'll make him Frightened 1 at the start of combat, including initiative. Also, Lough, I've usually let you get a free attack in, but since PF2 doesn't really do "surprise rounds," that seems maybe a bit overpowered. I'll let you use that 29 for initiative, does that sound good?
Yes.
"Going first" is the "surprise round"!
GM Kwinten |
I was debating letting you roll with a decent bonus, but I thought, a guaranteed 29 on initiative sounds pretty good already. Sure, it could be higher, but the chance of that is slim.
Kka Magwi |
Ysondkhelir easily dodges the attacks with barely any effort.
If Kka's 26 vs Off Guard (-2 circ to AC) and Frightened 1 (-1 status to AC) is a miss, that puts Ysondkhelir's AC at 30+. This is not looking good for us.
Cherry gestures, unleashing a blast of electricity at both the hand and Ysondkheiler before using their staff to shield Kka.
Kka gets a +1 circumstance bonus to AC.
Is that a Shield Other (now Share Life) spell that Cherry cast on Kka?
If so, then there is no +1 circ bonus to AC that I can see. The spell makes it so Cherry syphons off half of any damage inflicted on Kka for the next 10 minutes.
GM Kwinten |
Herp, thank you for fact-checking me (I don't mind, please keep doing it!). Somehow I missed your first attack. That one definitely hits. The natural 1 obviously misses.
And yes, I think it's the Guardian Staff. It does not stack with Nimble Dodge, but it does work for all attacks, not just the first.

So it was a Forbidding Ward spell that Cherry cast from the staff, not Shield Other. Yeah; won't help on the Nimble Dodge, but I'll take it for the rest of the attacks.
GM Kwinten |
No, it's the one-action ability of the staff itself. Forbidding Ward is 2 actions, that can't happen if Cherry also cast Electric Arc.

Ah, gotcha. Missed that part of the description.

Ergh, I wanted to say Lough couldn't move out of the cloud since he's fascinated, but I misread the spell. You still count as fascinated, but you can still do other things.
My take on reading the spell, which I did a couple times, was that it doesn't impose on my choice of action. I also noticed it lacks the incapacitation trait. So...
Kvit the Ruin Delver |
Yeah, fascinated seems not to do much except against a caster. I ran a scenario that had a whole PFS encounter around a big fascinating device. It was kinda disappointing to run since it was set up to be interesting.

Yeah, I think I was confusing things with PF1, where Fascinated was much stronger, and there was a spell that forced you to remain within the area of effect. But indeed, as is, Fascinated doesn't do much, even on a failed save (I mean, it blocks spells and Recall Knowledge, but that's it), and the spell just gives a miss chance.

Functionally it is Forbidding Ward, but only needing one action and having a third the range. Frankly they should have just given the staff that, but I understand that they wanted something a little faster to give the staff wielder something supportive to do with their third action.
Kvit the Ruin Delver |
I think per cover rules he would be visible since parts of their squares can be linked. But he'd have standard or even greater cover (up to you). But since it was a will/fort save spell it essentially ignores cover.
GM Kwinten |
No rush! Real life comes first. Take your time doing stuff that needs doing first. PbP can wait for a bit.
Thanks for keeping us updated, though.
Cherry Berry |
Cherry, you can still roll a will save to see whether you are actually slowed or not. I'll roll for you.
[dice=Will save Cherry Berry]1d20+15
Nope, still slowed.
Didn't I roll will twice at the top of the first post? I even had to hero point it.
GM Kwinten |
The spell calls for an initial roll (whether you're affected or not), then potentially a second roll to see if you resist the effect that turn. With your Hero Point you merely failed the check, but are still potentially slowed. That's what the second check is for.
rainzax |
Lough: you seem to have forgotten to take Frighten into account. Also, there is no Bless, but you did get Guidance from Cherry Berry. Assuming you use Guidance on your first attack, it's effectively a 34. Which is still a hit, but I thought I'd mention it.
My bad, posted in haste.
=)
Kvit the Ruin Delver |
It would be effectively the same number of actions, but the updated interact action lets you swap items.
"...You can grab an unattended or stored object, draw a weapon, swap a held item for another, open a door, or achieve a similar effect..."
Though! While looking into it, the remastered battle medicine no longer says you need a free hand! battle medicine
"Requirements You're holding or wearing a healer's toolkit."

Ah, dang.
For a more direct link/answer.
The FAQ
"248: To reflect the clarification on healer's tools allowing you to draw them as part of the action if you're wearing them, change the Requirements to "You are holding healer's tools, or you are wearing them and have a hand free"
At least swapping still might be better than leaving things on the dirty floor.
