Here are my RP samples. Work keeps getting in the way of my posting.

RP Samples:

Ro bribes Karmid with some dating advice. As usual she gets a bit bossy.

Ro and Karmid in RotRL

Emi tries to weasel information about Blackjack's identity out of Trinia Sabor, and winds up apologizing to her.

Emi and Trinia in CotCT

Amandine cons a manticore to get out of a deadly situation.

Amandine and the Iron Lash in War for the Crown

Expanded stuff:
1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?

The increasingly bizarre laws that serve no purpose other than to stroke egos and grift the populace. A picture in every business is mere vanity, but charging for spilled grain? And the capture of dogs? Bah! Such things are an insult! Especially to my patron, the magnificent Madam DecClaur, why here animal rescue has suffered under these laws! Why she was about to begin rescuing abused farm animals but now she must desist! Ah, the lack of trained piglets who fetch like dogs and would endure wearing frocks is such a loss.

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?

Alas, with the misfortunes of my patron and the sad state of Kintargo, I sadly lack the funds to travel. ALSO leaving the city without fighting for it is shameful! I shall be staying in any event.

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?

My heart is heavy, but I shall refrain from aiding any of my allies goals for a time and will draft a full confession for them and indeed, brainstorm a plan for my loved one to be secretly rescued with me as a mysterious patron!

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?

I am stunned! My shipment of Abrigail Thrune pictures with secret compartments that can be used to pass secret messages to the resistance is in danger of being found! Fortunately, I have hidden them underneath a shipment of Andorian Halfling Pipeweed. Such a vice brings a good price from interested parties such as exhausted workers and even guardsmen. When questioned, I plead with them to allow such a small pleasure past and agree to pay passage fees and even grant a gratuity of a box to each guard so they can bring back a success story to their superiors of being diligent guards!

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?

Duty to my allies to very important, but so is relaxation and enjoying life. I beg off the meeting, explaining I have a date with my muse and ask their understanding.
6. Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby beg for his life. Do you spare him? Or is some other outcome more favorable?

Mercy is a sign of greatness so I am inclined to listen to the pleas of his family. But as a quote goes, 'Put your faith in the gods, but first tether your horse.' I know that hate can last a long time and as a sign of willingness to put the feud aside, I require a magical oath to be spoken that neither of us shall continue this vendetta.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.

One who aspires to stride back into the theatre and perform in a play that will show that love and truth still burns bright in Kintargo.

Love to see you again TarkXT! I will get something up this weekend for both campaigns.

Now all we need is the rat and his monkey to join.

@Jerax Where did you get your antipaladin training?

In the background, Jerax was shipped off to Egorian to the Temple of Asmodeus there, where the tiefling got his scholastic education, later with direct mentorship under Baron Artax Vangel, a antipaladin of Asmodeus.

Questions for Rebels:

1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?
Things were grim already, but they've gone too far. Those @sshole guards chopped my arm off when i defended my girlfriend against the guards' abusive behavior. Any leader giving his subordinates this much freedom to do as they see fit, aught be removed from power.

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?
I fell in love. With a tiefling girl. As much as i'd like to be somewhere else, i can't leave her to her fate at the hands of these b@stards.

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?
I am convinced their promises are worth nothing. I'd get one of the street urchins i know to deliver a warning message to my comrades, and trust they will relay to me a message on how we will turn it into our advantage.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
Come on. It won't be that difficult, my cart's load will be covered in stuff they wouldn't want to touch. Could be trash, jagged metal for smelting in smithies, might get them tetanus if they're not careful.

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?
I'd excuse myself and say i have other obligations that preceeded the meeting. Of a meeting i can get a summary afterwards from a comrade. A date with her i can not, obviously.

6. Your lifes nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby bega for his life. Do you spare him? Or ia some other outcome more favorable?
That guard captain finally got the beating that was coming to him. I tell the family they wouldn't beg if they knew even a quarter of the brutalities and death he's inflicted upon the city's people. I know he'd continue if i let him live. I'm doing everyone a favor, and end it with a sharp knock to the windpipe.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.
A rowdy person if need be, but in control of myself. I will not tolerate people humiliating those close to me, but i am called a big softy, in a good way, by my girl.

Answers for Vengeance:

1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaws failure at Isger?
They were too devided with their focus for their own good. Obviously they lacked in the department of preparedness. Contingency plans..

2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government?
Either intelligence, or as high in the inquisition as i could get.

3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep their word of feast on the tears of absolute sadness?
Depends on the individual. An average soldier? Share secrets of his unit's hideouts, movement patterns, key figures.
Paladins & clerics? Force them to do something opposite their vows, to disconnect them from their gods, have them serve whom they came to destroy. As for their SO, i'd 'condition' her into foiling any schemes the former mentioned individual might attempt, to free themselves.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
A few words, and a glare that has them backing off. I am part of the inquisition, not a peasant.

5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do?
I tell them they do not want to have anything befall me. My mere presence will have them doubting anything else.

6. Your lifes nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech.
(stands over nemesis)
"Well well. This whole 'i am protected by my god didn't work out, did it? You were weaker, i am the stronger. Your god did not save you."......"Kill you? I have no desire to, killing is too easy, they'd merely need your corpse and revive you. See, your devotion is somewhat endearing."......(lean into their ear) "You'll be my personal project. When we're done, you -wouldn't- even have wished i'd had killed you. You'll be entirely devoted to serving -me-."

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.
I appreciate order, but i enjoy not being too strictly bound to it.
Killing? Any low thug can do that. Turning my enemies to my own side, now -that- is a true victory.

Example of RP #1
My PC joined a group back in 2015, up until 2 months back, everyone thought her to be a guy, being masked. Both as PCs and players/GMs. She confesses to her friend after her friend saved her from the brink of death.

RP bit #2, Way of the Wicked

Although I don't have a name for my barbarian/pain taster yet, I think he'll be either a Kellid human or a half-orc from Kellid origin.

Still thinking for a better background for his youth, but he has lived his adult years the way of the mercenary. He had 4 followed the ways of Gorum, or at least the Kellids way of Gorum that his tribe maintained.

Rumors:
Sometimes the brute who lives for battle, blood and carnage, other times the meticulous planning and execution of a sadistic killer. What makes a man like him? What has given him his drive for pain?

Rumors aplenty. Some say he was tortured into madness, with glimpses of his normal self mixed in there. Though which part is the more sane then? The killer or the brute? The answer might be even more terrifying.

Others say he was already a sadist as a child. Or perhaps experimented on in his childhood by one of the gnomish inventors residing in Cheliax.

Perhaps something in his heritage that drives his love of pain? Demon-blood that can't be seen? Influenced by Zon-Kuthon himself?

Though one loon says he got the thirst for painbecause his first lover was a porcupine. No-one believes that though.

I'll make a profile for my character if I get selected. Same with buying all her gear, right now she just has weapons, clothes, and a backpack.

Rissa Whitfield, halfling sorcerer (rakshasa bloodline)

Answers to Rebels Questions

1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?
Barzillai Thrune is a brute and a menace. Have you heard how he executes people? It takes a sick mind to come up with that. And he took over the opera house! UNACCEPTABLE. I'm out of a job now!

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?
Halfling liberation! I heard Barzillai got the Silver Ravens, rough luck there, but I'm sure the Bellflower Network is still active somewhere. Haven't heard from my contact in a while, though...

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?
I'll spin the authorities a convincing lie, grab my loved one, and run before they find out the truth. I can even beat detection spells... sometimes. If the law doesn't believe me, I'll run and get my comrades to help me stage a jailbreak.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
Good day, honored guards! These goods are bound for my owner's home, the Delronge Estate. I really can't let you search the cart without the Archbaroness' permission, she beat me so badly last time. She did give me some coin to buy hardworking guards a drink or three, though...

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?
Apologize to the man and ask if we can go out the next day. I'm only attracted to halflings, so I would drop a hint or two that helping slaves escape might be involved. If he tells the authorities, eh, at least I'll know he's not worth my time. I can lie to the guards more convincingly than some people can tell the truth. I'll just tell them I refused his advances and now he's trying to get revenge.

6. Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby begs for his life. Do you spare him? Or is some other outcome more favorable?
Hmm... I would spare him under the condition that a spellcaster I trust put a geas on him to leave the continent of Avistan and never return. Let him try his luck across the ocean in Rahadoum or Sargava.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is. A mostly cheerful person who enjoys telling stories, playing tricks on big folk, and a halfling abolitionist. DOWN WITH THE OPPRESSORS!

This actually made me laugh out loud which isn't good considering how late it is where I am right now.

At heart, perhaps? They wouldn't mind actually being one, but that'd require a profane gift or wish.

That aside, would you allow variant multiclassing?

Very likely some sort of forward scout in a military unit, yes.

The summary we didn't know we needed.

I really love the idea of a sniper Aussie elf. Maybe the Necromancers could play the medic... "And anyway, that's how I lost my license."

Liberty's Edge

Dot. I've always wanted to play evil. I'd go for a Tyrant Antipaladin that's a no-nonsense judge, jury and executioner, as well as a fearstriker. And I'll re-read the Evil Overlord list in case I'm chosen.

I'll add the rest of the stuff later, for the moment here are the questions.

Questions:

1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaws failure at Isger?
"Their syncretism of beliefs was their downfall, letting doubt infiltrate them. No unit can function efficiently if their minds are not in unison."

2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government?
"Lictor of the Order of the Scourge, taking care of criminals and subversives."

3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep their word of feast on the tears of absolute sadness?
"Consign themselves for dignified, but secure, imprisonment for both. Refuse, and it's their head. And of course I will keep my word."

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
"Trick question. I would not be transporting contraband."
"Oh, it may be in enemy territory. If so, I would pay the proper fees, explain the urgency and secrecy of the delivery to some powerful people who would not take kindly to delays. And I will say so with a hand on the sword."

5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do?
"Prepare a quick way out, alerting allies and purchasing, if possible, magic ways of escaping."

6. Your lifes nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech.
"Villain speeches are timewasters while reinforcements arrive or the enemy looks for a way out. I would just kill them on the spot and gloat later."

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.
"Commonfolk are too inept to have a voice in how the world is run. I will make it better with as much of an iron fist as needed, and it will all be for the greater good."

Loyalists:

Jerax: The BBEG in other games.

The towering tiefling chuckles in his deep booming voice, "Ha, now your just trying to get in my pants."

In seriousness, I realized I still need to de-level Jerax back to Level 1 still. I'll do that today.

I love both these AP's, though I have a slight preference for the Rebels.

For the Rebels game I would like to submit a Duskwalker Swarm Monger Druid named Crow. He would have grown up on the streets of Kenabres.

Rebels Questions:

1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?
They placed a bounty on his friends, the pigeons and ravens of the city. That and the Dottari have become even bigger bastards than they were before.

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia? Where would I go? I have no home, no protection no nothing. Besides, who would protect my feathered friends?

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take? None. When your only loved one is your familiar they'd only capture it over your dead body.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do? It would be an odd day indeed when guards would approach a pauper with questions instead of weaponry. Still, the easiest way would be feigning a horrible, hacking cough followed by smearing your nose on your dirty sleeve. No guard will want to catch whatever you are spreading.

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do? Herbert, my Raven familiar, will attend the meeting. Afterwards he can relay everything to me.

6. Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby beg for his life. Do you spare him? Or is some other outcome more favorable? I would spare them. Then again, depending on their transgressions I might not spare all of them. There is some truth in the idea of an eye for an eye and Herbert really likes the eyes.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is. Outcast among outcasts finding a home only among his feathered friends. Kind soul with a big heart who cares for the little guy.

For Vengeance I'd also be looking at a Druid but in this case a Devolutionist and servant of the Infernal Lord Bartabos. He'd be a halfling with his "animal companion" being a former stable boy who liked to beat him and his fellow halflings.

Vengeance questions:

1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaws failure at Isger? They were too weak to succeed so why pay them any attention? Just another reminder that the strong dominate the weak.

2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government? As High Priest of Barbatos, advisor to the Queen like Barbatos is to Asmodeus.

3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep their word of feast on the tears of absolute sadness? Fairly simple: end their own life. That way their soul is sent straight to the realm of my Lord. Then I'd release their loved one to cry over their dead body.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do? It's fine, let them search. It's not like they'll insist when they smell the offal I'm using to cover it.

5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do? I would not go. Why submit yourself to those you know will overwhelm and betray you? Better to wait until you have the upper hand.

6. Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech. "Whose a lovely little pet? Yes you are!", while petting them. All after I have reduced them to little more than a slobbering beast of course.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is. ex-slave out to claim his spot at the high table while stripping away the thin veneer of civilization.

As for the RP example, I'll have a look for a good one.

NotEspi wrote:

Because we have to be evil now, it's the rule!! :P

Jerax has been re-leveled to Level 1, and I added some elements of his past in Egorian that was brought up in his previous HV Campaign to his background.

I'm excited for another chance to play Jerax again; getting hyped for the campaign!!

Virgil nods in approval at the symbol of Power, as the Mesmerist plans his next heist....

Here is Sapiens' Character, an Aasimar Tyrant Antipaladin fiercely convinced that the best way to help people is to enforce order at any cost. You said not to go with Background, Appearance and Personality so they are not here, but I have a good idea of them. In case it didn't filter properly from the questions, her main belief is that people should not have the power to influence decisions they are not fit to take, and that the best governance is one of enlightened dispotism.

As for RP samples, here are a few. I don't have much material on evil characters but here are a few RP moments that I have had:
A discussion of philosophy
On the subject of human experimentation ethics
The drow are not to be trusted
Intimidation and celebration
A paladin offering redemption

So let me take the time to illustrate how my selection process is going as things start winding towards their end without revealing any of my current biases.

The first part is to take each group and separate out the archetypes from the characters.

What I mean by archetypes are entries that are essentially some tropes attached to a personality but little else. Think like the trope of the Silent Alpha Male. You see this guy in a lot of adventure type shows and books. He exists purely for when something is in need of a good punching, a blunt instrument wiwlded by the plot to appeal to our monkey brains that want to see blood.

However what turns this from an archetype to a character is how this person ended up where they are, how they are dealing with it, and if their are some obvious paths they will go in their character arc.

An archetype is ultimately just a hook. And some archetypes will make it past this because i trust the players or the AP to turn the hook into a character which in and of itself is interesting. And some archetypes are just fun to react to.

From here I figure out who can go the distance. The above plays into this but to get a bit meta it's about if the player can keep it interesting enough for themselves to keep it going and to be as efficient as possible through combat so we don't spend weeks between good bits.

If anythings left I try to balance the group. Forget about standard 4 or 5 mans you already know what im about. This may take some adjustment before the game but that'll be between players. I seriously doubt anyone will be eliminated on these grounds but one or two might be added back in.

So i'll let yall stew on that to consider. Obviously you won't know anything concrete until sunday. But it gives you an opportunity to alter your entries a bit if you feel they lack something.

If you need an easy example of the differences I'm talking about, look at the cast of The Next Generation vs. Deep Space Nine.

Given that my characters are only really in the "archetype" phase of development and seeing as how several other stellar players have concepts very similar to what I was initially planning, I'm going to bow out of this one. Have fun saving Cheliax everyone!

Silver Crusade

Is there a set deadline for completing the application for the first part? I'm interested in the rebels path mostly, but the last few days have been a bit hectic and I still need to read up on the setting before being able to answer the questions. It'd help me plan a bit if I knew how much time I had left.

Paquen: Overthinking will probably kill this guy.

Well never say never, but the idea I'm trying to get across is different. It's about two of Paquen's characteristics.

First, she's a planner and organizer by nature. It's less she thinks too much about things in the moment than she thinks about things ahead of time. She likes precision and backup plans because something will always go wrong in some way.

She's also a smart tiefling without many ways available for her to express it. What she can do is use a very florid stye of speaking to show she isn't ignorant. It's a little vain, she'd probably even admit it, but it can sometimes help to get a foot in the door and not be taken for granted or dismissed.

The Q&A is meant to do all that. Way I see it it should be relatively obvious. Even with just a basic outline in your head of all the long stuff in your head you can give or infer a lot of information with very little. The archetypes or tropes your character falls into just help flavor the information.

Basically, show don't tell.

Woop, nevermind. My friends would never forgive me if I played in this instead of running it with them :D

Here is Slayde's submission for Hell's Rebels. The crunch is in the profile. There is also quite a bit of backstory as he has been played in a Hell's Rebels game that died out. I am still working on a submission for Hell's Vengenace, just having a harder time figuring out who that character is.

Hell's Rebels Questions:

1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?
A missing father figure/mentor. Rutilus has a mentor who goes by the name Patch. Recently he has gone missing and word is there is someone at the protest that may have some information. Furthermore, things have gotten rough for his adopted family. As such, he is looking to make things better for them.

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?
Rutilus is a street-urchin. As such he is laregely penniless minus the small stipend that was supplied by Patch. He is also deathly loyal to his "family" he has created for himself. There is no way they could leave and he couldn't imagine leaving them unless it was for their own good.

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?
A double cross. Loyalty is the trait that probably defines Rutilus more than any other. As such he would never betray his comrades. Isstead he would work with the comrades to make it look like he was betraying them before turning the tables on the one who has captured his loved one.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
Distract the guards and lead them on a chase through the city while the rest of the crew makes the cart disappear.

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?
I think Rutilus would at first attempt to pull a Mrs. Doubtfire and attend both the meeting and take the young lass on a day out of the town. However, if that is not possible, he would be upfront with the one he fancies and let her know that something important has come up and that I unfortunately need a raincheck.

6. Your lifes nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby bega for his life. Do you spare him? Or ia some other outcome more favorable?
I would spare him, but I would make sure that he is no longer a threat anymore.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.
Rutilus is loyal. He is the guy that if he calls you a friend he will always have your back. He will attempt to move heaven and hell to protect those he cares about.

I've given this a lot of thought for a character and i have found INSPIRATION.

Basic statistics:

name: Flynn Elric... or Johnny Anderson, Michael Spencer, Thomas Filch, just to name a few.

Human Lamplighter Investigator
Str : 7
Dex : 16
Con : 14
Int : 16
Wis : 12
Cha : 12

Without a Past
You knew you were going into a world where none go unscathed, and there is no turning back, so you decided to forsake your past in order to protect your loved ones. You have no old friends or family to go in times of need, yet at least they remain safe from your enemies finding and taking their wrath out on them.

Benefit: You earn +1 trait bonus to Bluff and Linguistics when used to forge documents, and choose one as a class skill

Child of Kintargo -

You gain a +1 trait bonus on Knowledge (nobility) checks, and Knowledge (nobility) is always a class skill for you. In addition, you start play with a noble’s outfit, a signet ring, and a single additional nonmagical item worth no more than 200 gp.

Hells Rebels Questions:

1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?

I do what's best for my family, my companions and the common people...I've seen dictators and the current issue is one and well... I'm a sucker for an underdog.

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?

My mother and brother are still alive, though they don't know i am, someone has to protect them. and if my identity came to light they'd be in further danger.

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?

A very convincing one, pretending to betray leading them into a trap and at the last minute stabbing the true enemy in the back.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?

Guards hate paper work, they don't get paid enough to read stacks of Falsified documents stating my goods are top secret.

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?

Try to make both appointments, but ultimately work and the job come first.

6. Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby begs for his life. Do you spare him? Or some other outcome more favorable?

Spare him, i'm not a killer and he has a family. Of course he'd owe me a favor for the future.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.

A Man without a past, but with as many enemies as he has faces

Ammon is me, the beginning of our campaign and the group. There's a few choice moments -

Some modifications:

Hell's Rebels:

Spoiler:

To put it in a nutshell, I'm replacing Litsy's classic vengeance story ("you killed my family, prepare to die") with a more nuanced one ("you've been a threat to my life and the lives of those who have had it rough and are under my protection, prepare to die").

More details here:

a) I took the time to mull over Litsy's backstory for these past few days, and could think of another reason why she'd be so against the currect rulership of Kintargo. The introduction of martial law would have no doubt led to a stricter justice system with more severe and punitive measures against criminals. Trials under military law, for instance, require fewer evidence to incriminate the defendant, and sentences can be far more punitive.
I'm guessing that Litsy would have witnessed some of her street urchins pals (or even rivals) suffer sentences that she would have found disproportionally severe considering their crimes- perhaps even minors being trialed as adults.
The way this all ties in to her backstory, I think she lost people from her gang in recent years. One in particular was her closest partner in crime, someone she left the orphanage with. They would have been a good duo, coordinating the gang's activities together (as they would have been older than the rest of the kids) and orchestrating cons.
This person would have got caught and received a severe sentence, fueling a lot of Litsy's resentment towards the current mayor, House Thrune and martial law.
It would have probably isolated her within her own gang, as she would have found it much harder to sustain her authority on her own. It would give her a solid motivation for joining a party of adventurers.

b) Double-checking the Player's Guide, I noticed that the establishment of martial law was a much more recent event in the AP that I had assumed (woops), meaning it can't be the reason why Litsy's family was killed.
they were staunch supporters of Monarch Carellia, and were a little bit too vocal after she died of a mysterious "drowning" in 4696. Perhaps they moved to Kintargo to try and escape a purge of her political allies, but only won themselves a short respite of about two or three years.
Evidently, no one could ever prove that the fire that burned down their estate had been caused by arson.
As to how that would have impacted Litsy, I think that it would have led to a further feeling of estrangement from her family. Like any kids in the orphanage, she would have had fantasized about secretly coming from a noble family that she would go back to as a grown-up, and the reality proved so much worse than what she was expecting. Who wants to a go back to a family of diabolists, who were simply killed because they pledged allegiance to the wrong corrupted monarch?
At the same time, it would have fueled a bone-deep resentment of house Thrune and their supporters. Not only are they the reason why a life on the streets is becoming increasingly dangerous and precarious, but the circumstances that surround her parents' death further convinced Litsy that life in Cheliax will never improve under the Thrunes. They need to be overthrown. Not that she's credulous or idealistic enough to think that she or her gang would ever get a part to play in it beyond half-heartedly attending protests while staying on the lookout for troubles and/or Constables...

Hell's Vengeance:

Spoiler:
a) Mesriel's character sheet incorrectly states that his Use Magic Device skill bonus is +8. It should be +6.

b) Do I need to provide a different RP sample for this character? I'm currently trying to think of ways I could nuance him personality and goals-wise.

Hell's Vengeance submission
I've made some adjustments as well, after mulling over my character, I already felt the need to tinker with it. I now have at least a name and a better background story in mind for him.
I don't see him as the completely blood-crazed hulking combatant anymore, but more of a calculated man, that uses pain to get what he wants, be it favours or pleasure.

His name is Bargon, he's an half-orc from Longacre itself. Growing up in a foster home under the supervision of a retired Maralictor there, punishment would be flaying with a 5-tailed lash. And Bargon would have had many a transgression to atone for, not at the very least atone for his parents sins and transgressions, according to the Maralictor.
Bargon could definitely have turned out differently if fate wanted it so. The coin of his personality could have fallen the other way around and he could have been a person that swears off the violent, torturous punishment he had gotten in his youth. Turning out as a Paladin/Scarseeker instead

I've updated the questions to fit my new view, the idea of pain-loving barbarian is still the same.

Questions:

1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaws failure at Isger?
Hah, serves them right, their perverted tenets of righteousness through obedience, obedience through force serve hem only so far. The Godclaw lost because they thought they were righteous. The Iomedeans believe they are righteous because Iomedea grants them her blessing. That's why the Godclaw lost. They are weak because they don't have faith, only their five false idols.

Me? I've taken their lessons to heart (and body and mind). Obedience through punishment. There's one difference, I enjoy punishing the ones in my way.

2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government?
I am not so sure one such as myself immediately qualifies for such a thing. I am no lord or politician. Granting an hereditary title to one such as myself, seems out of the question, though if I would be made a Paracount or someone in charge of a fighting force, there's much I could put my mind to.

3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep their word or feast on the tears of absolute sadness?
Safe return is such a broad term, heroes always seem to imply no harm is done, I'd rather think of it as returning them alive, I would never promise unharmed. What's the fun in that? Watching a so-called hero be thrown into a fighting pit to fight in a series of cruel adversaries for others amusement, I might be more merciful then. There is always obedience through punishment though. What if I have already broken the mind of their loved ones? Then the hero is merely a few steps away of working for me as well.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
I'm not much of a talker, if I would have a cartload of contraband with me, I would make sure it is covered in something they would not want to touch. Manure from the stables off towards the fields, trash or refuse with sharp edges or dead bodies. Laugh at the guards if they still try search through and cut themselves on something sharp or pointy.

5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do?
Kinky, I like that. Naturally I would go. There's not much anyone could do to me that I don't already have scars for. If it's something new, well that means a new experience, a new scar and a good story to tell. I do have a high resistance to pain, so if she or he can't crack that, then I'm just bored.

6. Your lifes nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech.
"Well, sir... Seems finally the tables have turned.", the spiked chain rinkles heavily as it's released from my grasp. "You put up a good fight, even for an old man, your experience still shows. I'll give you credit for that. Are you ready for what's to come? What's that? You don't fear death? Aww, that's cute, whoever said anything about death, Maralictor?"

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.
A lover of fights, collector of scars and dealer in pain. Some say pain is so close to pleasure, for him both terms are often the same thing.

Okay, I think it was just too nice of an idea to not try to answer these questions as a “What if Borgan turned out good” scenario.
He turned to Shelyn after his past with his foster father, letting works of beauty like art and song lift his weary spirit. It is his coping mechanism of dealing with the past.

Hell's Rebels Questions, Borgan the Paladin of Shelyn:

1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?
Kintargo was supposed to be a city where there was more place for arts, theatre. People more able to express themselves away from the influence of the teachings and brutality of the enforcers of Asmodeus. It is why I came to this city myself. Better to stay accustomed to the evil you know, even when it is slightly lesser. Now? It seems like more of the same as the rest of Cheliax. Oppression and brutality. I will follow the law when it makes sense, these new laws do not.
2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?
I've had my fair share of captures and sentences, I know what happens with those who speak up or want the freedom to do so. My foster father drilled that into my head the hard way. I managed to break away where I could have run away or become like him. I wish for others to not to have to make that choice at all. I'll fight for them to have an opportunity.
3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?
I managed to keep my mind under duress, but not everyone may manage the same. I would do anything to keep a loved one out of those conditions. Rescue attempt, kill them if they asked it of me and even give up information about the latest mission.
4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
Convince the two fine gentlemen that I'm just a carter working for the temple of Asmodeus and that my goods need to arrive in time. If that doesn't work I'll cross their hands with silver or gold if needed.
5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?
Try to reschedule the date to an earlier time. If she likes me enough, she won't mind. Though if we hit it off well enough, I might drop a question to see if she's also interested in the ideals of the organization itself.
6. Your lifes nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby begs for his life. Do you spare him? Or is some other outcome more favorable?
My first nemesis is miles away, though I would reckon I've picked up a few more in Kintargo. I would spare him, let him see what righteousness can really be. Though I would send him off with a warning:” This is a mercy to your daughter. Not to you. If you waste this gift of mine, the next time we meet like this, there will be no-one that can vouch for you.”
7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.
A man with deep emotional scars, trying to lift them from his own mind and keep others from experiencing the same. A protector with a troubled past.

Hell's Vengeance submission
Submitting a Lawful Evil Human Cleric of Asmodeus. Crunch is still not set in stone, but given the other submissions, he is likely to be primarily focused on support and control rather than combat. Possibly with the Asmodeus Advocate archetype or building towards Diabolist.

Hell’s Vengeance Q&A:

1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaws failure at Isger?
Unacceptable, yet hardly surprising. Their dedication to the ideal of Law and their battles against the forces of chaos is commendable, but their methods are misguided. Why waste time sifting through the dogmas of lesser gods when Asmodeus already stands as a bright beacon of order and strength? And now we clearly see at depth of their folly, as they let the true disciples of Iomedae infiltrate their stronghold while they were distracted perusing her heretical teachings.

2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government?
As a humble servant of the faith and church of Asmodeus and by that extension of House Thrune and Cheliax herself, I know that loyal service is rightfully rewarded. My station and power will reflect my ability to further the goals of The Lord of Darkness and Her Infernal Majestrix. Naturally, I expect this will carry me high into the clerical hierarchy.

3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep their word or feast on the tears of absolute sadness?
My actions will be guided by the confines of the law. I will not allow a criminal to escape justice, but whatever flexibility afforded me in the intricate criminal code of Cheliax, I’ll use to the full extent. Patience is my ally and I much prefer to gain a hidden informant rather than reap some minor immediate advantage. I’ll honor whatever agreement I make – which will of course be carefully worded.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
Any contraband I might be transporting will of course have been confiscated from undesirable elements. I should have little trouble convincing the guards of that and secure their cooperation through persuasion or intimidation. On the rare occasion where the need for discretion prevents me from doing so, I may resort to Cheliax’s well-established tradition for bribery.

5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However, there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do?
Neither power nor pleasure can be attained without risk. But I’m no fool. Before accepting the invitation, I investigate the rumors and take the necessary precautions.

6. Your life’s nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech.
”Believe me, I take no pleasure in this. However, your actions leave me no choice. I will not stand idly by and let the pillars of civilization and order crumble in the name of charity and mercy. You may think me cruel and curse me as a tyrant, but I serve the greater good. Where is the mercy in letting one man live, if doing so will inspire a dozen more to follow his misguided path? If all did as you, the peace and security we enjoy under our benevolent Majestrix will soon be replaced by the opportunistic savagery that plagued our beautiful empire in its darkest days. Now kneel and let the fires of Hell will burn away your sins.”

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.
One of Asmodeus’ faithful, who carries out his Infernal will with true devotion, motivated by a firm belief that the alliance between Hell and House Thrune is the only way to ensure peace and prosperity throughout Cheliax, for highborn and lowborn alike. Those who challenge this belief must be dealt with without mercy, so their childish desires and romantic ideals won’t jeopardize the stability of the empire. Look no further than the constant bloodshed in Molthune and the madness of Galt to realize what is at stake.

Past PbP roleplay examples:
Casimir, Arcane duelist and Spymaster of the young kingdom of Kardas, argues with the Swordlords of Restov in DM Alexander Kilcoynes Kingmaker.

A fun afternoon by the oasis, where Hurgah the Reaver, half-orc Dragon Disciple, has a roar-off with a 10-headed hydra in order to taunt it into charge-pouncing his stoneskin-enhanced chest. In other news, hydra hearts are yummy snacks.

As a GM, I subject my poor players to the nightmare wrath of the Fellnight Queen.

That's awesome! So glad someone submitted a cleric of Asmodeus. If we are both chosen, Jerax would likely defer to your character, since the tiefling would have had respect and fear of asmodean clerics beaten into him.

Modification for Hell's Vengeance:

'd like to change my answer to Question 7, because the initial one (while true) doesn't give much of an insight about who the character is, or what prompted me to create it. So:

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.
He is thoroughly convinced that overly expensive Elixirs of Life and Resurrection spells has led to an unfair system where true immortality remains in the hands of the elite, and that if everyone had the option to become undead (preferably an intelligent undead), the world would be better off. He believes that his powers were endowed unto him by a supreme force to task him with a mission (like a Discount Cleric). He has to find a way to make immortality cheaper and more accessible, as well as free himself from his own mortality.

He did eight years of jail time because of this.

Glad to be of service :-)

In return, Jerax will be treated cordially, but with no uncertainty about where they both are in the intricate social hierachy of Cheliax. Lucien has no doubt that he is one of the good guys, and the defender of the true order of civilization. In other words, he has a strong White Man’s Burden/Gilead Commander vibe going. And he’s still young and low enough in the ranks to not have his ideals corrupted by power…yet

This is the moment that my character began to find his faith in a Shadow of the Demon Lord ga and this one is from a more current game where I am playing a tiefling antipaladin awaiting his judgement while being mentored/haunted by the ghost of his dead great-great-uncle.

I am thinking a little of column A and a little of column B. I think Dario prefers to go under the radar until he can strike at the core of the enemy. However, emotions could get the best of him at times if he has a chance for vengeance right then and there.

Dario has the personality of Inigo Montoya at times but I feel he fits the Count of Monte Cristo moreso. He isn't just interested in personal vengeance; it is the system and society that is wrong. These new laws that are being pushed are only more proof of this.

Draco isn't just some dumb thug walking around with a big sword on his back. Draco is wise enough to know that he is not the end all, be all. His comrades have unique skills and any unit needs to use their skills to the best. That means being willing to step back and let the specialist do their job. Loaded with social skills while eventually growing into a decent tracker, demoralization beast, and having a nasty dog beside him, Draco comes with a lot of goodness...err...evilness.

I am having the idea that Draco is also a family man; a sister that survives by being a prostitute in one of the major cities and is raising a niece and two nephews. His mercenary work helps supports them and he sends them coin back to make sure their needs are good and she places herself in very little danger. Draco could've been a good man if he wasn't damn good at being a bad one.
