Elephant in the room ??

My work computer blocks links, so if someone could please explain it

Elephant in the Room is a third party re-imagining of the feat system to reduce the feat taxes in the system eg needing to have Point Blank Shot for Precise Shot. It is downloadable as a pay as you want product. Google "Elephant in the room feat taxes" to find it for download.

Elephant in the Room:

By all metrics, Pathfinder is the most satisfying pen-and-paper game I’ve ever played. The class balance feels good, the math isn’t overwhelming, and the community support is outstanding. However, it suffers from one syndrome that haunts the creation of every new character: feat taxes.

Many veteran players lament that you need three feats to go to the bathroom in Pathfinder. It’s a cheeky musing, but one rooted in truth. Pathfinder’s feats are arranged in sprawling tiers, often requiring an investment of three or more feats to unlock a single more advanced one. While it’s satisfying to work towards a goal, many rungs on the feat ladder are considered either undesirable or overtly mundane. These are feat taxes.

Below I’ve highlighted a number of revisions to Pathfinder’s feat tree to help ease the situation. I’ve focused mainly on combat feats, arguably the worst offenders. Feel free to incorporate these changes into your own house rules or make your own suggestions in the comments.

Martial Mastery
Gone. Combat feats like Weapon Focus now apply to weapon groups instead of a specific weapon by default.

Weapon Finesse
Gone. The “light weapons” category has been renamed to “finesse weapons.” Characters can choose to use either their dexterity bonus or their strength bonus to hit with these weapons, no feat required. “Finesse” is also now a weapon attribute like “brace” or “trip,” allowing a weapon in another category to be finessed (like the rapier).

Agile Maneuvers
Gone. A character adds their dexterity to the CMB if they’re wielding a finesse weapon and their strength otherwise.

Combat Expertise
Gone. Now simple a combat option for any class with at least +1 BAB.

Improved Trip, Improved Disarm, Improved Dirty Trick, Improved Feint, Improved Reposition, Improved Steal
Gone. Replaced with Deft Maneuvers.

Deft Maneuvers
New. You do not provoke an attack of opportunity when performing a trip, disarm, dirty trick, feint, reposition, or steal combat maneuver. In addition, you receive a +2 bonus on checks with these combat maneuvers. Now a prerequisite for the relevant greater combat maneuver feats.

Power Attack
Gone. Now simply a combat option for any class with at least +1 BAB.

Improved Bull Rush, Improved Drag, Improved Overrun, Improved Sunder
Gone. Replaced with Powerful Maneuvers.

Powerful Maneuvers
New. You do not provoke an attack of opportunity when performing a bull rush, drag, overrun, or sunder combat maneuver. In addition, you receive a +2 bonus on checks with these combat maneuvers. Now a prerequisite for the relevant greater combat maneuver feats.

Point-Blank Shot
Gone. Precise Shot replaces it as a prerequisite for further archery feats.

Deadly Aim
Gone. Now simple a combat option for any class with at least +1 BAB.

Mobility
Gone. Merged with Dodge.

Dodge
Revised. You gain a +1 dodge bonus to your AC. This bonus increases to +4 against attacks of opportunity caused when you move out of or within a threatened tile. A condition that makes you lose your Dex bonus to AC also makes you lose the benefits of this feat.

Improved Two-Weapon Fighting
Gone. Merged with Greater Two-Weapon Fighting

Greater Two-Weapon Fighting
Revised. Prerequisites now Dex 17, Two-Weapon Fighting, BAB +6. In addition to the standard single extra attack you get with an off-hand weapon, you get a second attack with it, albeit at a –5 penalty. Once your BAB reaches +11, you also gain a third attack with your off-hand weapon, albeit at a –10 penalty.

Thank you. That does explain a lot.

The summary provided is useful, but not completely accurate.

The EitR rules were written ignoring much of the expansive library of material. As examples: The EitR rules as published never mention Reposition or Combat Steal. The third (and final?) version of the EitR rules brought PBS back, but made it FOLLOW Precise Shot, and be a dead-end feat with nothing else requiring it, ever. Apparently, 1 feat providing all the benefits of PBS and Precise Shot became one of those feats that everyone HAD to have. It was too good. <shrug>

Ok got a character, roughed up and ready (In my mind)

going to do the prose first, both because it kind of leads into the questions, and because I have a hell of a time with creating links.

Prose:

Four months ago in the high kings mountains a dwarf works at a forge in one of the temples to the maker.
He was rapidly approached by another.
Shoddy work Grunyar, but that is not why I am here. Your Brothere Odol is waiting in the foyer
The red headed dwarf looks up at the one that just criticized his work.
Aye Stigur, I will be working at improving over time, but I best be seeing what he wants.
He leaves the axeblade on the anvil, and then walks to the foyer.
Odol, what brings you here.

The brown haired dwarf turns around from where he was admiring the frescoes of time past.
Ah Grunyar, I come bearing bad news. My wife Lupp was taking a load of goods to Kintargo and never returned. I was worried that she was waylaid by bandits, and then I got this.
He passes a note over
Odol, things in Kintargo are worse than I thought. The house of thrune trumped up a charge against the caravan. As I was in charge, I was put in the prison, and the caravan exiled. I need help and don't know if this will get to you.
He takes a deep shuddering breath. I got our kids to feed, and I don't know where to turn.

Grunyar throws an arm around his brother. Leave this with me. Go back look after the kids, and throw a prayer to Torag for me, For I will get her back come whatever may. and know this, the only way she will not return is if I lie dead.

That evening, he finishes off the axe that he was working on, goes to the market district, and makes purchases of items that he figured he would need.
Torag, grant me the strength to complete this for I know it is a big task and oath that I set myself.
With that he walked out following a well trodden road that was frequented by caravans.

3 months Later he walked into the city of Kintargo and established at a tavern.
Where he was approached by a fellow

questions:

1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?
I got my brothers wife to find and release from prison
They will not be hanging onto her just because of a trumped up charge.

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?
Loyalty lad, Loyalty, to Kin, Friends and then to others. If your word is your bond, then you best be following it.

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?
He laughs into his ale.
A promise to betray friends, Lad, do ya think a dwarf with an axe to grind with the current regime will betray kin. This would never happen by me. If they set her free, I would go to see her safely returned, but then Upon my return, there would be the gawds own troubles

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
Well, I would invite them to see some of the wares of my cart in a nearby alley to see if they want some, and once in there, they would not be coming out again.

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?

Another chuckle into his ale
Well, I would ask the organization if they would be willing to postpone by one day, if not, I would break the news to the other and ask for a days grace for the day on the town.

6. Your lifes nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby bega for his life. Do you spare him? Or ia some other outcome more favorable?

He pauses for a moment.
Well, I might be sparing of the man, but I would not be sparing of his parts. He would be missing his sword hand, and I would be advising him that If I were to have to see him again, there would be no second chance.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.

A solidly build traditionalist dwarf, that is both loyal, and stubborn to a fault.

Questions & Answers:

1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?
Kintargo has long been a thorn in Cheliax's side. Tolerated, until recently, when Barzillai Thrune arrived to enforce martial law in the city. During the Night of Ashes Rosamonde's parents, Milani sympathizers, were swept up by the Dottari never to be seen again.

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?
Leaving would be the easy way out, but life would be no better for those left behind. To stay and fight against the regime is the only way to secure the safety and liberty of all.

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?
Rosamonde would offer information, some actionable, some not, just enough to to seem legitimate in exchange for their release. Once they are safely released she would smuggle them out of the city and quickly turn on her handler(s).

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
Greet them openly and offer to proactively pay any fine and fees, directly to them, if only to be allowed on my way. If they do not accept the bribes then the world is better off with a few less Dottari.

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?
I would beg off, that something important has come up last minute, and hope that we can reschedule the date. If not, then it wasn't meant to be.

6. Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby begs for his life. Do you spare him? Or is some other outcome more favorable?
Unwilling to start a blood feud, Rosamonde would spare his life in exchange for guarantees, magical or otherwise, that they would never interfere in her life again or else their life and their family's life would be forfeit.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.
A zealot for the cause, willing to sacrifice anyone, including herself, to ensure that Kintargo is free.

Hey all. Hopping in as Pollux's alignment has become an issue.

First off let me say this. There will be no war in the party. Again no war in the party. Pollux would have no issue working with LG Paladins/Inquisitors.

Pollux is evil. Pollux is also not stupid. With the choice between the Ravens and Thurne He will choose the Ravens every time. Thrune's power structure is full, no room for our hero. The Ravens are a developing power-base with lots of room.

Pollux wishes to burn the world down, hence the evil alignment, and Pollux is rather mad, so chaotic evil. But you cannot effect change without power. The Ravens are the path to that power and Pollux thinks in the long term.

A recent example. Pollux was given the chance to poison a not-too-annoying NPC. No chance of blow-back, deniable inaction was all that was required. The NPC is hale and hearty.

Killing them might have been entertaining but removing a useful tool would make it that little bit harder to burn the world. Pollux keeps their eye on the prize.

Think of P as a supervillain in training. This AP is the backstory for the AP where the next party of heroes has to stop the mad witch.

He is majorly entertaining as well!

For clarity:

I do not oppose anyone playing and enjoying the game how they wish.

When he declares his character to be evil within the mechanics of the game, I trust him to understand what he is saying and to mean it.

I will not play a game where good and evil are intentionally designed as actual absolutes, where the PCs are supposed to be shining heroes of good, with evil PCs.

I won't do it. It is part of how I wish to play the game.

He's already in the game. The game belongs to the group already playing it. I hope they are enjoying themselves. I hope they continue to enjoy themselves.

I won't be joining them.

Edit: Thought while I was loading the dishwasher . . ..

Please, let me clarify an important point. The ONLY ONE who did anything wrong here, was me. I failed to pay enough attention before applying to a game. This is all my fault, no one else's.

Go forth. Play the game. Have a blast.

Still tweaking the mechanics a bit but have the questions answered

Questions:

What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?
That’s the wrong question. It’s the rulership that turned against Kintargo. House Thune doesn’t understand the city’s spirit, so it seeks to unmake it. If they aren’t going to leave, they should’ve just left us alone.

What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?
Sasha points to a well-dressed couple in the corner, sharing a bottle of wine.
“That red is from Terverius Winery in southern Cheliax. It’s marvelous; 300 gold a bottle and we’ll probably be raising prices again next week.”

She holds up the in her hand. “This is from a winery not far from here. It was founded by a nephew of Tiverius, he took some cuttings from the original vineyard to set up his own operation.

She sips. “It’s … fine.”

Sasha puts down the glass. “You see what I’m saying, right? Same grapes, different land, worse wine. Everything has a place where it belongs; everything has its home. Kintargo is mine.”

A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?
“They’re lying. They probably already have my brother — he hasn’t been seen since the riot, so I pray they’ve got him — and if I could get him back safely in exchange for a few names? Maybe, sure.”

“But you know what I really love?” She points to a barstool. “I love the people who sit down sad and stand up singing. I love the smell of Yolubilis, and the first crier on the street in the morning. House Thune’s captured all that, and they’re not giving it back, no matter what I give up.”

You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
“It depends on whether the guards are locals or not. If they’re really of Kintargo, I don’t fear them at all. They’re family. Family helps each other out. Sometimes help means a few extra coins to keep their families fed. That’s fine.

“If they’re outsiders, well … hopefully they’ll take a bribe. Nobody wants a riot. “

Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?]
“You’re looking for commitment, is that it? Worried I’ll fall for the right set of eyes and run off for my happily-ever-after? Well don’t be, because there’s no ever-after for any of us while Thune is in charge. ”

Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby bega for his life. Do you spare him? Or ia some other outcome more favorable?
She chuckles. “I don’t think ever had a real nemesis before. Suzy Windermere, maybe, but I don’t think it’d ever really come to blood with her.
I’m not a violent person. I’m going to do what it takes to free my city, but If I can do it with a minimum of hurt that’s all the better. I’m not looking to leave any suffering families. They can just leave.”
Her face grows harder then. “But the new Lord-Mayor doesn’t have any close family, so they say.”

Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.
She’s the most popular person at the bar, and would be even if she wasn’t the one pouring drinks. Affable, blunt, a bit of a smartass. She’s one who starts a song that others join, or pokes fun at the other regulars without leaving any hard feelings behind … … usually. Sasha isn't as clever as she thinks she is, and she's let her mouth get her into situations where she's over her head. So far, that hasn't been a real problem: She has yet to meet anything that actually scares her. But it's early yet.

Well, there are already plenty of people vying for this single spot, but nothing ventured, nothing gained, so how about an Elysiokineticist with Kinetic Healer? It's not a divine caster, but it's close, and I can put the mechanics together pretty quickly.

Questions:

1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?

They didn't have to do anything in particular. It's just that when you play the villain long enough, somebody has to show up and be the hero.

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?

Easy. Better places don't need my help.

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?

Promises don't mean anything, actions do, and my action is going to be getting them back on my own terms. I'd rather fail than give up without trying.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?

Appeal to their better natures. Maybe give them a little flourish, flash a coin or two. If all that doesn't work, grab what I can and bolt!

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?

Oh, well this is easy. I bring my date to the clandestine meeting!

6. Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby begs for his life. Do you spare him? Or is some other outcome more favorable?

Of course I spare him. Anyone can do better, but maybe we don't trust him with power again.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.

A friend, a hero, a healer, a conduit to the outer planes. A smile when you need it, and an explosion of power when you deserve it.

Here are my character's answers to the questions. She's basically done, but I sent her by PM to the GM for approval of the 'Not Annoying or Problematic' character concepts before I post here here.

Hell's Rebels Questions::

1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?
Answer: The Church of Calistria in Kyonin sent her to investigate and possibly help the local worshipers of Calistria there who sent a secret message for aid. Anything to stick a thumb in Thrune's eyes is seen as a plus here as far as Calistria’s church is concerned. Merelda knows she’s being sent on a possible suicide mission, and she understands success is unlikely. Sounds like fun!

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?
Answer: To take vengeance upon the uptight Devil-Worshiping rulers of Kintargo, for the minor Calistrian congregation in Kintargo is something she relishes the challenge for! Helping the rebels is just a huge fun bonus!

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?
Answer: ‘Love’ is a construct to Merelda...and anyone who loves Merelda must understand her own wants and needs come first. However, she won’t hesitate to try and turn the tables on the enemies involved in some way too with her comrades, giving them the Calistria ‘kick’ of vengeance she often desires. Anyone who ‘loves’ her is just taking their chances...and will end in inevitable heartbreak in almost all cases. While intentionally cruel, Merelda is always upfront with her lovers. Nothing is permanent with her, except her faith.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
Answer: Ask if the men wouldn’t mind ‘taking it out in trade’ instead in the alley nearby...then try and turn the tables on whichever one is alone with her! She then...well...you get the idea.

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?
Answer: She goes to the meeting. Again, to Merelda...’fancy’ is about all she wants in the end really and there are always others to look forward to. She will attempt to ‘ask for forgiveness’ or ‘punishment’ later in a very physical sense if she can.

6. Your life’s nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby begs for his life. Do you spare him? Or is some other outcome more favorable?
Answer: Vengeance comes in many forms, and life itself can be punishment to some and death a a gift to others! Sometimes vengeance is the loss of an eye or an ear...or some other body parts! She’s flexible. Very...VERY...flexible.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.
Answer: A woman who appears to always know what she wants, and is never afraid to ask for it. Beautifully joyful in all things, she is both fun and cruel, her laughter is both joyful and unhinged to some. Like an animal stalking prey, she follows Callistria’s will whenever she can, and never lets a truly deserving target get away if she can help it.

Hell's Rebels Questions:

1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?
The Silver Ravens have released me from slavery. Before I leave this wretched nation, I owe them a debt. Also there are many in this underground organization more experienced than me, who know more than me - maybe they can help me understand what are these... Newfound powers that have been manifesting in me. I heard one commenting I had the touch of the divine? what could that mean?

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?
Krezen feels he owes a debt of gratitude to those who have saved him. It is not written in stone, but there is perhaps one of the members of the Silver Ravens he feels particularly attached to? Just an idea.

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?
That is a VERY complicated question :D Trying to transpose this into my RL, I would do ANYTHING for my loved ones. Anything. In game terms, if indeed it would be someone loved by Krezen it would depend a lot - I am not sure he would be able to sacrifice the many for the one. But he would definitely offer himself in exchange.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
Try to Intimidate them into leaving me alone.

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?
Go to the meeting.

6. Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby beg for his life. Do you spare him? Or is some other outcome more favorable?[B]
That would depend a lot on what my nemesis had done - it it was really terrible, Krezen would have the family taken away, and execute him/her on the spot.

[b]7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.
Krezen is grimly determined, and loyal to a fault to a very small group of individuals (perhaps even just one). He has been a slave for all his life, and never knew real friendship apart from that born out of fear, and shared with the other slaves. He has the posture of a Hunter, and even though his weapon of choice (rapier) sometimes causes others to mark him as a flimsy, or witty combatant, usually those ideas are dismissed once he is actually seen in combat. He is also moved by vengeance against those who robed him of his freedom. It is not his priority at the moment, but it will never be forgotten, and it will be repaid one day.

Still open to last minute entries.

Going to go ahead and throw this up. This is He’sDeadJim. Good luck everybody!

Newbonomicon here. Got a proper alias with a character sheet for you.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Recruitments closed. I need to consolidate some things and poke some people and ill get back to yall later this week.

Yessir!

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Right so after a lot of back and forth with my players and some others they decided to take two to fill out our original six rather than bring it up to 5.

So with that said we're taking Sasha Leonid and Merelda. So if they can introduce themselves into the discussion thread that would be appreciated.

For everyone else I appreciate you taking the time to put up with this.

Good gaming to those selected!

Did not think I'd be opening this up again so soon but here we go.

This time I need 2 to 3 more people for the Hell's vengeance game
Same as when I was recruiting to fill in the rebels game save for vengeance including being lvl2 etc.

Also, there's no particular desire for any particular role, the group consists of an inquisitor, an antipaladin and an infrequently poating cleric. So do whatever your wicked mind desires so long as you follow the instructions and answer the questions as before.

I could hop in. Where are you currently in the story?

Currently thye've just signed the compact and are currently starting investigations into the angel knight.

Tempted to give a Kineticist Dark Elementalist archetype a try. Will you have a use for a rogue-ish type in the party, or will I be stepping on the inquisitor's toes?

I dont see any issues with making a rogue like character, no.

Alright, I would paste my original submission for the vengeance game from this thread.

Questions:

1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaws failure at Isger?
Power rules, weakness fails. I guess the Order was not up for the task after all. Time for someone better suited to take their place. What can one sword do in the grand scheme of things? Not much. A sword is only as strong as whoever is wielding it. And I heard of no gods fighting with the Reclamation. I suppose, as a symbol of their rebellion, it is fairly effective. But the sqeuaky wheel gets flailed. Or something like that.

2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government?

How high can ambitious mercenary get on this ladder? A position of power in one of the Hellknight orders will do, I suppose. And then we shall see. Everyone has a weakness. One just needs to find it, and exploit it. On the other hand, one's position does not need to be public to be influential.

3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep their word of feast on the tears of absilute sadness?

Each individual is motivated differently. A paladin and their love interest, for example, could be reunited after he publicly denounces their god and/or patron, with some nefariously juicy, and morally objectionable deed is fullfilled. Publicly, of course. And yes, I am a man of my word.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?

Why would I haul contraband to begin with? I am a loyal, law abiding citizen. Either their eyes are decieving them or I have been set up, and will act as such.

5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do?

Compare the pros and cons of this transaction. A night of passion is probably not worth dying for, however unique it might be. If forced, a nice backup plan might be in order. Find some dirt on this person, and make a contingency plan in case I do not leave said room. And be sure to announce it to the other party before the deed.

6. Your lifes nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech.

Well, here you are. On your self-righteous knees. Was it worth it? We had a nice relationship, you and I. A lovely little back and forth for several years. It is unfortunate that you had to do what you did, but I do admire a man of his word. How many men did you fell before you got to this point? Is your life more valuable than theirs? How many lives is your own life worth? I am sure it is at least a few dozen. What makes you so special, then? Think about that while you are bleeding out.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.

Power and ambition can be combined into something wonderful, if applied in the right places. One should pick their battles, and strike when your target least expects it. A little lie here and there, evidence that suddenly appeared, and someone else will solve the problem for you. Assuming the laws work as intended.

Working on a Vissectionist alchemist who isjoining the group to regain his fortune and influence. I see him as a mix of Preacher's Odin Quincannon(Tv version) and the main character from the game Machine For Pigs.

Out of sheer curiosity, could I put forth a PC from House Arvanxi ?

I've been super enamored with them recently, and would love to make another member of their House(I already have 3, lol).

If not, could I be from one of their vassal houses? House Mhartis, House Ciucci and House Rasdovain.

Sovereign Court

Definitely interested with a sorceress focused on charms and compulsions. Dominated people for the evil win!!!

Will get a character up tomorrow for you.

Got the stats up. Will work on the equipment. Here are the questions

Questions:

1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaws failure at Isger?

"Alas, military matters are not my area of expertise so I am unable to provide a suitable answer. Bad tactics, incompetence, weather or divine intervention could have had a hand in their fall."

2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government?

"To achieve my goal of reclaiming my formor position, I will need to cultivate relationships with those who can provide such resources, so socializing with them will be needed. However, a noble's life is not something I seek out."

3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep their word of feast on the tears of absolute sadness?

"Magical bindings and oaths. I have very little trust on mere words and will seek these out and demand they accept them."

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?

" Such indignaties I will have to tolerate at the moment. But be assured that once the shoe is on the other foot, I will remember the slight and repay in kind."

5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do?

"A dalliance can be enjoyable and provide Oppurtunites. I will however, be sure to take the needed medical precautions."

6. Your lifes nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech.

"Mercy? My dear fellow, if you wanted mercy than you shouldn't have taken things so far to be in this position. I am sure that I can find a use for you."

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.

A broken man covered by a shell of his past self who waits to be able to crack open his shell and let the void spill forth.

Slightly convoluted, but *hopefully* interesting backstory. Spoilered for Tark, as I saw they are often on mobile:

Backstory:

When Ileosa fled Westcrown and moved to Korvosa, she took a handful of rather minor nobles from Houses Mhartis, Ciucci, and Rasdovain. Vassal Houses to Arvanxi, these nobles thought to gain power and influence beyond Cheliax proper.

Among their number was Alessa (Unsure which House just yet), a rather attractive young woman who was fanatically loyal to her 'cousin'. When Sabina formed the Gray Maidens, Alessa jumped at the opportunity to further serve the Queen. She was decently competent with both longsword and bow, and took to her training with zeal. Assigned to Qualins Rachmirol's platoon, Alessa was not in the city when the uprising took place, and Ileosa was 'killed'. She refuses to believe her Queen could be brought low by mortal hands, and truly expects Ileosa to soon return to take back her city.

Following Qualins back home to Westcrown, Alessa picked up her daughter, Zelina(my PC), and the two traveled to Egorian together. During the long trip, mother drilled daughter about the greatness of both Ileosa and Cheliax itself. By the time they reached the capitol, Zelina was just as fanatical as her mother.

When Abrogail adopted the former Gray Maidens, both mother and daughter transferred their loyalty to her Infernal Majesty. Oh, they still believed Ileosa would one day return, but they realize that if they can gain the favor of the Queen of Cheliax, perhaps she can lend aid to the retaking of Korvosa.

While Alessa is a proper member of Erinyes Company, Zelina is still very much in training. However, she already shows similar prowess with the longsword as her mother, and her drive and dedication coupled with her fiery zeal may see her surpass Alessa's skill.

Assuming you're okay with all of this, I'll work on the questions tomorrow. I also could use a slight assist as to why Zelina is in Longacre. Was thinking maybe she was sent there for additional training or something?

Class wise, I'm thinking she might just be a fighter who will take levels in the Sanguine Angel PrC.

Hello! Please find my submission of Maximillian Akorius, arrogant Chelaxian nobleman and future army commander. He fancies himself both smarter and stronger than the common peons, and believes that might makes right.

Build-wise, I thought the character concept was best achieved through a heavily armored Bard--one that can fight himself and lead others into the fight as well. Bard of course gives Inspire Courage, while a one-level dip in Cavalier grants heavy armor and some other fun tricks. Two Bard archetypes round out the build--I see Max as leading by being smarter rather than being likable, so got Int to casting. And swapping in psychic (Mesmerist) spells instead of arcane spells allows reliable spellcasting in heavy armor.

In theory, Max qualifies for the Battle Herald prestige class after Level 5. In practice, he also has the option of sticking with straight Bard. The choice between these options will depend on storyline and party composition (e.g., whether to help fill gaps in melee or spellcasting).

Akorius isn't a canon Chelaxian noble family; if it would help to fit into one of those, I would not hesitate to create a new alias with an appropriate family surname. No traditional background yet (thanks for saving me that time), but answers to questions are below and in the profile.

Q&A:
1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaws failure at Isger?
A shameful national failure that only became possible because the nation’s leaders were soft. The rebellion must be ruthlessly crushed.

2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government?
At present, a forgotten son of a minor noble family. In the future, Lord Commander of Cheliax’s armies.

3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep their word or feast on the tears of absolute sadness?
Simple. The hero must stand before those who admire him, swear loyalty to Cheliax, and throw themselves at my feet to beg for mercy. Whether or not the loved one lives depends on how convincing the hero’s groveling is.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
I flash my signet ring and remind the bored guards that Chelaxian nobility are not to be trifled with. And I glance at my bardiche.

5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do?
Finally, I have been invited into the heights of power–and pleasure! Of course, I am not an idiot. Having been prepared for this encounter, I make sure that the powerful person knows that others know who I’m with.

6. Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech.
Max looms over his defeated foe. ”Well, well. Did you really think that you would defeat me because your cause is just? Because you were sent by the Gods?” Dropping down to one knee, Max pulls the head of the broken paladin up by his hair and looks at him eye to eye. ”Take a good look. Now, I am your God! I decide whether you live or you die.” Max leans in to listen as the paladin desperately whispers some final prayer for martyrdom. Then he laughs. ”You’re hoping I just kill you now? So you can die a hero? Oh, no, you don’t get to escape that easily. I am looking forward to making you suffer for all your sins against me.” He grins malevolently in anticipation, before dropping the man back onto the floor. ”Send him to the dungeon.”

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.
Hierarchical–serves those in power (if worthy), expects his lessers to serve, crushes those who do not know their place. Bold–likes aggressive, courageous action, hates waiting unless there's a clear reason. Intolerant–hates dissent, does not suffer fools. Pragmatic–focuses on concrete plans and results, secular rather than spiritual concerns. Extravagant–enjoys wealth, fine clothing, elegant meals.

A long time ago, I played through some of Part 1 of this campaign with a rather different character (chaotic evil gnome)--here's an RP sample of Muziel pranking a poor barmaid. We called ourselves the Sinister Seven and named ourselves after one of the Seven Sins--Muziel was Greed.

All set with equipment, spare gold for crafting and extracts chosen

Here is the background for my Sorceress Selena. I haven't finished the crunch side of things but have the concept done. Basically a daughter of a minor noble that is expendable to the family. The only way they advance in Cheliax is by ruthlessly using and abusing Selena. She is but a tool to be used until broken and discarded or the tool carves a masterpiece. However Selena has learned well from her father and is merely biding time until she can usurp her father's control of the family. She is happy to take center stage and have all the attention focus on her but knows that sometimes it is better to be inthe shadows to let another take the spotlight and the dagger in the back that comes with it.

questions and answers:

1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaws failure at Isger? My opinion is whatever my father tells me my opinion is. As a dutiful daughter and member of a noble family I know my place in the family. Privately it is an embarrassment.
2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government? Being from a noble family I above the riffraff of commoners. Yet my family is not so well off or influential that I can bandy my name about and expect everything to be done immediately for me. Yet with those with patience and cunning there is always a a chance to prove oneself and rise in the courts.
3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep their word or feast on the tears of absolute sadness? Regardless of what action they must perform the result will be the same. I will have increased my power or influence of the hero to a degree that they will owe me some favor in the future. Favors from heroes are the best currency one can have other than a favor from the queen herself.
4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do? Flatter them, seduce them, bribe them, mention my family name. If all else fails charm them magically.
5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do? Numb myself to the horrors that may befall me to gather more power and find a way to repay any depredations 10 fold upon them should they scar me. A sorceress always has a few tricks up her sleeves, enchantments, illusions, and an extremely high charisma can get your far in Cheliax if you know how to play your cards right.
6. Your life’s nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech. Tsk tsk. How is it that one so promising as yourself is ensnared so easily? I had such high hopes for you to actually become more than a nuisance. Instead you are just a fly caught in my web for me to feed upon. Pity, I will take my enjoyment out on your family instead. Perhaps they will give me something to smile about as I explain to them in great detail what I did to you and what is in store for them.
7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is. A young aspiring woman who seeks power above all else and is willing to do what it takes to get it. It is either that or be discarded and cast out from my father’s house.

sample speech::

Kragg sighs with relief at the mention of the villagers having come to some agreement with each other and the leadership. Well even if we are not sure why things changed for the better we can at least appreciate the fact that they have. This doesn’t mean we can relax too much but at least it is not a critical issue that demands our attention immediately. Should something come up then hopefully we are here to witness it and help.
If there is nothing else Ramona I will take my leave of you and go see how everything is coming at Civilization’s Edge. Work should be completed by now and the sailors and crew will likely be hammering for more drinks. Should you need me I will be there.

Kragg heads straight there and let’s Lolito and Alyn take a circuitous route towards the dock. Arriving at his establishment Kragg beams with pride as he sees the smoke rising from the chimney on the new kitchen. True to his words the bar was swamped with sailors while the common room’s tables were holding locals trying out the new food. The tools of the trip through the island and the fight with the hag behind him for now Kragg settled into the business of owner and operator of the Tavern.
As Alyn and Lolito enter with a stranger Kragg nods his acknowledgment of their arrival and finds them a table as soon as possible. Kragg extends a hand to the new arrival and introduces himself, The name is Kragg Stoneheart. Welcome to Civilization’s Edge. What can I get you to eat or drink? We have roast mutton on the spit, fresh steamed vegetables from the garden, tuna steaks on the grill, and scallops in a garlic butter sauce.
