"Arise my brothers and sisters! Arise! At long last the Inheritor has come to topple both the pretender monarch and her pretender god! No longer must we suffer the depredations of the damned and the depraved!

So take up your swords! Lock with our shields and march! March for the heart!!!!

~unknown author, found on propagabda posters seized from a hideout of the Glorious Reclamation.

The Glorious Reclamation is at hand! After a decisive blow over the seemingly invincible Order of the Godclaw in Isger hundreds of hidden cells of freedom fighters, exiled malcontents, and regular citizens with a chip on their shoulder took up arms and brought their grievances in the form of riots, revolts, and pitched skirmishes, to the House of Thrune itself.

Though tenuous in the extreme this offers the first real hope for Cheliax to shuffle off the infernal chains that bind it to hell.

Yet, Abrogail is not without her own champions. Thrunes power and stability was hard won and earned. Asmodeus's first mortal empire on Golarion will not be given over so easily to upstart gods and ungrateful peasants. There are those who stand for order and sanity that will take up arms and stomp this rebellion back into the muck of chaos it rose from.

The only question is, whom do you serve?

So, as stated in interest thread this will be an unorthodox recruitment. I have two ap's and I only plan on running one of them. Hell's Rebels and Hell's Vengeance specifically.

This won't be a majority vote as the majority of people won't be playing either. Rather this is a vote by quality type thing where I pick the book and group based on the quality of characters I get. I have no particular feelings of one over the other as either way I'll be writing for glorious infernal bastards.

The difference is the nature of the group. Rebels is about a group of adventurers not really associated with the reclamation taking it upon themselves to overthrow the new appointed lord mayor and his tyrannical reign.

Vengeance is decidedly the opposite. Rather than rising up to throw it down the villains climb the ladder to be on top. The House of Thrune is your patron and, by extension, the dark prince himself.

So let's get to it.

Basic Submission Guidelines

~20pt buy. Max gold for your class at 1st level. 2 traits one of which must be from the relevant ap's players guide.

~No BPA(backhistory/personality/appearance) yet. Based on the nature of this recruitment it would encourage people to be wordy and work real hard just to be rejected. I'll save you the pain. You may include it if you want just bear in mind it will make no difference in if you're chosen or not.

~Do answer the questions in your submission post from the spoilers below. This will subsequently tell me which ap the character is for.

~You may submit one character per AP if you think itll increase your chances.

~Summoners must be unchained.

~Elephant in the room feat rules are in effect.

~Please avoid intentionally annoying or abrasive characters. And while the stoic silent type is perfect for movies and tabletop its an awful choice for PbP.

~My goal is to ultimately finish this AP with all players still onboard. To that end please ensure you can commit the time.

Here are rhe AP specific questions you need to answer in your submission post.

Hell's Rebels Questions:

1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?

6. Your lifes nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby bega for his life. Do you spare him? Or ia some other outcome more favorable?

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.

Hell's Vengeance Questions:

1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaws failure at Isger?

2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government?

3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep their word of feast on the tears of absilute sadness?

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?

5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do?

6. Your lifes nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.

One last thing. Link for me an interesting piece of rp interaction from another game you are or were in so i have a measure of what im in for. If you haven't before give me a very short prose piece detailing such an interaction with a touch of dialogue.

And that's it. Recruitment will be up until Sunday or sooner if the number of participants warrants an early close. I look forward to your choices.

Dotting for now

Dotting for interest, I think I have a character in mind that might fit well with the Hell's Vengeance AP.

I'll mull over these questions.

Dot. I have a family thing to attend to tomorrow, but will have something ready on Wed/Thu.

Dot. Rather interested if it's Rebels.
Need to think on this a bit.

A tentative dot. We'll see depending on how some things go on the boards.

Interested in both. Definitely have to think about those questions.

Definitely interested in Rebels. I'll have to think about what kind of character I want to play, though.

1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?
As a covert bodyguard of young Lady Vaxilla Sarini, Nym once accompanied her mistress on a trade mission to Augustana. Through a series of circumstances that are unimportant (or else, perhaps very important) she found herself alone on the city streets for almost two hours before her handler found her. There, she met a young priest of Milani who showed her that it is possible to care about a stranger, and that there's another way to live besides total hell, which is all she had ever known. He gave her a rose, which she carefully pressed between the pages of her mistress' spare spellbook, leaving her a dried, preserved memento of a beautiful afternoon. She had no intention of striking out against the government, of course, since that was far above someone of her station, but the morning of the protest, Nym went to gaze at her dried rose and found it had regained all of its bloom and moisture. In a move completely out of character, she gathered her few meagre belongings and snuck out of the manor before her mistress could awaken. Once on the streets, she realized she could never go back.

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?
While forced to return to Kintargo, Nym vowed to herself that she would find a way to escape, somehow, but despite it all, she still loves her mistress, as cruel and selfish as she is. With all the anger within the resistance movement against the city's nobility, she can't bear to leave in case Lady Vaxilla should come into some sort of danger.

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?
This is hard for Nym: loyalty will soon become everything for her. Would she betray the party to save Lady Vaxilla? Maybe in the beginning, but after she is truly part of their group, probably not. Now, if it were the handsome priest of Milani she met in Augustana...nope, still no betrayal, since she knows he would never respect her if she betrayed to save him.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
Calistria is vile. Nym hates the goddess with every fibre of her being. The things she did and was forced to do in her service sicken her to the core. But, she did learn some useful skills in that time, so if a little time in a dark alley convinces the guards to ignore her cart, it's a sacrifice she can make. Not like she hasn't made it before. Of course, after Nym has grown into herself a bit more, those two guards might not find the romp in the alley as pleasurable as they had hoped for...

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?
A date? She has a date??? Nym??? Any man who actually cares about Nym will have to understand her fierce loyalty, and if the Resistance has a meeting, it has a meeting. The whole date thing was probably just a ploy anyway: it's not like any guy would actually be interested in her. Unless it's the handsome priest of Milani from Augustana...

6. Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby begs for his life. Do you spare him? Or is some other outcome more favorable?
In her role as a bodyguard, there were many nights when Nym laid awake dreaming of having her hands around the neck of Lord Vaysla Sarini, usually in the moments after he had just left her bed (there are reasons the man insists on young, athletic women serve as his daughter's covert bodyguards, after all). Crushing the life from his vile, evil, sinister body and then crushing the viscera from his vile, evil, sinister corpse would be so cathartic, but if his daughter were to be there, pleading for his life, she would relent, drop him down to the floor, and then shove a shuriken so far into his junk that he never even thinks about another young girl again.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.
Nym is a victim. She has always been a victim. But now she's done being a victim.

Dotting for interest. I 've never actually played an adventure in Cheliax, I believe, and the tidbits about it from the inner sea guide do sound interesting. I'll read up a bit and get to the questions somewhere in the next two days.

Here's my character application for Hell's Rebels:

Character Sheet:

Spoiler:

“Tiny” Litsy
CN Human Rogue (Charlatan) 1
Age: 16
Hair: Black
Eyes: Brown
Height: 5f 2 inches
Weight: 96 lbs
Deity: None
Init: +4 Perception:
Favored Class: Rogue (+1 HP)
Languages: Common, Infernal, Sign Language
Special Abilities:

Bonus Feat: Humans select one extra feat at 1st level.

Skilled: Humans gain an additional skill rank at first level and one additional rank whenever they gain a level.

Sneak Attack: If a rogue can catch an opponent when he is unable to defend himself effectively from her attack, she can strike a vital spot for extra damage.
The rogue’s attack deals extra damage anytime her target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when the rogue flanks her target. This extra damage is 1d6 at 1st level, and increases by 1d6 every two rogue levels thereafter. Should the rogue score a critical hit with a sneak attack, this extra damage is not multiplied. Ranged attacks can count as sneak attacks only if the target is within 30 feet.
With a weapon that deals nonlethal damage (like a sap, whip, or an unarmed strike), a rogue can make a sneak attack that deals nonlethal damage instead of lethal damage. She cannot use a weapon that deals lethal damage to deal nonlethal damage in a sneak attack, not even with the usual –4 penalty.
The rogue must be able to see the target well enough to pick out a vital spot and must be able to reach such a spot. A rogue cannot sneak attack while striking a creature with concealment.
Natural Born Liar (Ex): At 1st level, when a charlatan successfully deceives a creature with a Bluff, that creature takes a –2 penalty on the charlatan’s Bluff checks for the next 24 hours. This ability does not stack with itself.

Questions time!

Spoiler:

1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?
She lost both of her parents at a very young age, and had to spend most of her childhood in an orphanage. She eventually left to form a gang of street urchins with other children to make a meagre living.
On her sixteenth birthday, she spent most of her savings paying a detective to find out more about her family. She discovered that they were part of a minor noble house that was burned to the ground, because they were hostile to the Thrunes' martial law.
Suffice to say that, while she would much prefer to keep her distance with the crowd of protesters and watch from afar (peaceful protest as it may be, it doesn't take a pessimist to anticipate how that might go), she has an interest in it that goes far beyond trying to make a profit out of the general distraction.

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?
She has known Kintargo all her life, and the street urchins she's doing heists with desperately need some coordinating. They'll be lost without her.
Besides, leaving for another nation only to rent a room in a dingy inn and try to make ends meet by cutting a few purses sounds a little bit too much like home. Moving out isn't cheap, and she's got neither the savings nor the connections that could help her outisde Kintargo.

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?
She'd probably rely on manipulation, making efforts to ensure that they believe her to be on their side. She'd then find some way to use the trust they have placed in her to lure them into a trap- like an ambush, with their enemies ready to capture or kill them.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
"Ah, gentlemen! How serendipitous, I was precisely looking for you. You see, I've just stumbled upon this cartload, and it simply seems filled up with contraband. Abandoned by some thiefs after a heist, no doubt! Good thing I've found it. You need to be vigilant, you know, in such a big city. It's simply ripe with illegal activities- and yes, thank you Constable, I do know about the laws, otherwise I wouldn't have alerted the authorities. You'll bring it safely to the police station, won't you?"
And then she'll probably try and ask for a reward, or pocket the most expensive piece of contraband from the cart if she thinks she has a chance of not getting caught.

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?
"Wait, since when do I do dates?! You know there's plenty more things important to do, like heists to plan, houses to case, loot to sell - and help me Gods, Anton is one lousy fence... Fine. Let's say, hypothetically, that I met someone- I'd probably make up some pretext to reschedule. Business first. I was never the romantic anyway."

6. Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby begs for his life. Do you spare him? Or ia some other outcome more favorable?
The temptation to get rid of such a threat would be evidently tantalizing... But perhaps she can find it in her heart to spare whoever gave the order to burn her parents's home down, against large, and large piles of money.
Oh, if it turns out to be Lady Thrune herself, she can throw in her crown as well, for good measure.

Can you guys do me a favor and spoiler your answers to make the thread easier to navigate on mobile since thats when i look at it most of the time. Also, dont forget the last bit at the end of the recruitment post.

1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?
Her Eidolon is an Agathion disguised as a Devil. He's actively trying to turn her good because he thinks that's the key to returning him to his true form. She is hoping to develop her powers enough to gain autonomy from her family which is harder to do under the current regime.

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?
Prysta's mother is a relatively powerful conjurer who would likely scry, teleport to and sevrely punish her were she to escape.

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?
Prysta might be tempted to turn in information but her Eidolon will refuse to participate maybe even revealing her duplicity to their comrades. He will offer and alternative (pretendng to betray only to rescue the loved one themselves)

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
Try to turn on the charm and bluff my way past them. Maybe convince them that the contents are magically sealed (with the help of a fake aura)?

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?
Prysta wilil be tempted to go on a date but if she's truly invested in the organization she'll still go. Depending on ho the date is with, she might spin in as a chance to gain intel!

6. Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby bega for his life. Do you spare him? Or is some other outcome more favorable?
Just kill 'em.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.
Lots of stifled potential, socially adept and a secretly decent person.

Sorry, I did miss that last bit AND filled the thread up with a small novella.

RP sample 1
RP Sample 2

This is for my Hell's Vengeance character. (sorry for not spoiler the Q&A part earlier!)The second vignette is from the Eidolon's perspective.

vignette:
It was two hours past midnight before Prysta summoned him. Making sure that the rest of the household were asleep, she focused causing the tattoo on her forehead to glow red. He appeared in a puff of smoke and brimstone: the Nadir of Ruin. He looked every inch the Devil from the horns curving over his ears to the forked tail extending from over his buttocks. Maybe the cliched appearance should have tipped her off. There were no pleasantries of salutations, their souls were practically one. So Prysta cut to the heart of the matter.

Mother was so pleased with her. She was planning to apprentice Prysta to the Conjurer whom she herselfhad trained with but this was even better. Bonding with a Devil! When the Nadir of Ruin came into Prysta's life she began to dream of a powerful figure with terrible claws and thick golden mane framing his leonine face. Beautiful and terrifying he called out to the heavens in a mighty roar.

One morning, Prysta summoned a lesser fiend for practice. Her control over the larva falters and it lunges towards her. Instinctively she called out to the Nadir of Ruin who appeared by her side dispatching the little beast. He helped her up and looks at he rand immediately she saw the same stare as the figure from my dreams. Thinking of of that moment now, several days later she had to ask:

"Who are you, really?" she asked.
"I am the Nadir of Ruin...," began the Eidolon. Meeting her eyes he sighed. "Alright. I am from the plane of Nirvana. Greater powers have seen fit to bond me to you in servitude,"
"Oh This is perfect!" said Prysta laughing bitterly. "Is this a punishment or something? Have you fallen from Grace?"
The Nadir of Ruin's eyes flared a bright golden hue. For a moment, Prysta recalled the figure from her dreams, a tall mighty Leonine figure, his mane shining like the sun as he roared towards the heavens. How many fiends met their end at his claws? Now he was trapped in the form of one.
"I do not know what this is in aid of," said the Nadir of Ruin, "But I believe that our ... match serves a higher purpose. What I cannot say. But we may find out soon,"
Prsyta considered his words. The idea of a celestial being forced to wear a mask of EVIL was strange enough but for it to not be a punishment was strange to say the least.
"But why place you under my dominion?" asked.
"First of all I am not under your dominion!" said the Nadir indignantly. " Second. I believe this city has ... elements who wish to secede from House Thrune?"

Prysta almost fell out of her chair. She moved to her vanity and began combing her hair.
"Were you sent here to get me executed?" she asked. "Because inducing me to insurrection will do it,

vignette:
I have served the forces of Good with loyalty and dedication for millennia. Why then, am I being punished so? To be bonded to a Devil-binder is bad enough, but every time I manifest in the Prime Plane, I look like... Aargh, I can't even think it!

But this woman is not evil. At least I see no evil in her aura. She is not good either but I see the potential for it. I feel her doubts about the toxic norms she was raised with. Could this be my task? To guide a lost soul on the path to redemption? I cannot see what use I can be in this diminished form. With time I may grow stronger but even then, I am trapped in this diabolical disguise.

For that matter, what assurances have I that she will help me return to my true form? I am not completely under her thrall but we are linked. Her life is effectively mine as well.

Atrios casts a sympathetic glance at Miles. In his own reality, Miles had confided his past trauma. That he never had a chance to heal from it was an extra layer of to the tragedy of his death.

"Ah, let me explain," he said "I didn't do this. I'm not even sure what this is. I am Atrios. But from another reality. For whatever reason, of all the possible versions of us, we have been in contact. I think maybe a higher power has given us a chance to switch places,"

Were they doing the right thing? He remembered seeing the rift open, feeling it open. What else could he do but go in? Impulsiveness was a multiversal constant in all versions of Atrios.

"Atrios," he put his arm around his other self brushing aside stray lock of hair. "It's time. Don't worry, my friends will take good care of you and I'll be in touch. Our connection should still hold. if not I'll find a way to contact you."

He looked at the rift. It was ever so slightly smaller than a moment ago. As a reality-warper, he could sense that the rift would close soon.

"Quickly Atrios!" he cautioned There cannot be two of us in the same reality for too long,"

Hello! I have great interest in Hell's Vengeance!
I have played (and completed) Hell's Rebels with my before covid home group a few years back.

I shall use the remaining days until Sunday's cut-off to familiarize myself with both the setting and AP (Player's Guide) for properly answering your questions.

Researching is fun!

Thank you for running!

Edit: I would be submitting Virgil here. I shall work on your questions this week.

Any questions, concerns; please let me know.

Here is who I shall be submitting for Hell's Rebels; Dario Zuz, The Azata-blooded Swashbuckler of Cayden Cailean. Crunch is in the profile, questions are in the spoiler.

Q&A:
1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?

Grandma and Grandpa were originally innkeepers many years ago in Kintargo and loud and proud followers of Cayden Cailean. When the Chelish Civil War ended and the Accidental God's church was burned down to the ground, my family took to worshipping him privately. They were betrayed by a patron who was desperate for coin and my family's home and business burned to the ground and Grandpa and Grandma were executed. We fled the city soon after and we suffered from destitution until I alone remained. Vengeance burns firmly in my heart.

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?

Leaving won't bring me peace. The bastards who led my parents to suffer, who claimed the lives of my grandparents, and have made countless others endure torments and pain, will still live if I do not do my part. Kintargo is my home and with the Drunken God's blessing, I'll take it back.

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?

My betrayal is two-fold. I would lead the most competent and dangerous of my comrades into the trap, the one I suspect would never suspect my betrayal and can fight fiercely by my side. Then I would betray the betrayal; I would let my other comrades set up a counter trap to capture the enemy so they could be interrogated and we can learn where my loved one is or a trade could occur.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?

I would first try to convince them with a little bribe; bored minds lead to dry throats. A bit of Cailean's finest drink could help ease any tensions and get them to relax around me. I would then either try to convince them to just let me pass this once or, failing that, move to the nearby alleyway to stay out of foot traffic. If it comes to the latter, I'd gut them both if I had to.

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?

I would craft a beautiful song of love and admiration to sing to my beloved outside of their home or place of work. After I woo them, I would apologize that I would have to reschedule our blessed time together but I would understand if they did not want to wait. My organization, if it is the Resistance, is most important.

6. Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby beg for his life. Do you spare him? Or is some other outcome more favorable?

Did Grandma or Grandpa receive mercy before they were burned? Did my father receive leniency from the cutthroats that left him out in the rain to bleed? Did my mother receive kindness while she begged for food and coin so we wouldn't starve? No, he will pay for his sins but only him. His family will be spared.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.

A wandering minstrel who always has a good tale or song to sing. As quick with a blade as he is with his wit, others find themselves gravitating towards him, his beauty, and his leadership. Dario is a man of greatness and even greater potential.

As for an example of writing, this post will always be one of my favorite. We were playing Shadow of the Demon Lord and my character, being level 0, discovered a holy book and received a vision of the Martyr, the New God, and began to discover his faith. Dario is a fervent believer of Cayden Cailean, enough so that I am considering the Evangelist prestige class.

Accidentally missed question 7, so here it goes:

Spoiler:
7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.
In her imagination, she likes to think of herself as some kind of thievish mastermind. In reality, she's a scared and scarred kid who likes to think she's in control of the situation way more than she actually is.

I'll see if I can come up with a character concept for Hell's Vengeance as well...

RP piece

Spoiler:
here it is.
For context, this takes place after a pretty chaotic but ultimately swift fight involving my Iomedean fighter, a troglodyte being downed in only two attack, and the other fighter in the group throwing up.
It led to a pretty funny RP moment with the cleric of Caidean Caylean asking both characters where they had learned to fight, and offering to write a ditty about the whole event. I improvised an anecdote based on my character's martial training at the Fiercely Virginal Order of Blessed Exoneration convent. I really enjoy contributing to a little bit of casual banter between PCs!

Hell's Vengeance Questions:

1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaws failure at Isger?
"As simply as it is tragic: The veneration of five aspects of gods over The One True God, Asmodeus has lead to all the Godclaw defeats. You can't pick and choose what you like best about certain gods and call it a religion. Asmodeus has the One and True Plan for the Universe, which is why where Asmodeus walks, Order Follows in His Wake!"

2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government?
"High General Jerax Hellfire. Has a nice ring to it, don't you think?" [rolls Intimidation]

3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep their word of feast on the tears of absolute sadness?
"An intricate map of at least two strongholds, highlighting security soft points, and guard rotation. I'll keep to the letter of the word of the agreement. For now I can blackmail the 'hero' into doing what I want or expose their treachery."

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
"Through the uses of guile, intimidation, and monetary compensation, I would safely transport my goods to their destination. If I could guarantee a silent execution, the bodies of the guards would be found the next morning."

5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do?
"Make it very clear that I am in control, forcibly if need be. If done correctly, I would be the New Master."

6. Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech.
"You fu<king Iomedeans! Your talk of inclusion and fairness under the law is meaningless! I was a hungry orphan on the streets of Longacre, yet you shunned me, never inviting me into your homes and hearts, unless my presence taint your very souls. I will suffer no fools or hypocrates. Iomedeans worse of all!"

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.
"I was once a motherless orphan on the streets of Longacre. I lashed out at others who I saw better than me: the authorities, children from loving families, and those who had money and power. Eventually I was forcibly shipped off to Egorian, and underwent a 'reeducation'. I have found meaning in supporting the systems I once rallied against. My life was blunt weapon, now honed into a razor-sharp edge. All will Obey and Suffer or Die!"

Jerax Hellfire RP:
This is from Jerax's last stalled Hell's Vengeance campaign. Lots of RP to experience.

This is KingHotTrash once again, offering another character but this time for Hell's Vengeance. I remember seeing the unofficial "Houndmaster" archetype for Cavaliers and thinking how neat it was. Now they have an official one. Like before, the crunch is in profile and the questions will be in a spoiler.

Evil Q&A:
1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaw's failure at Isger?

All that fancy armor, training, and snobby attitude and they couldn't keep a relic out of someone's hands? Pathetic. Oh well, at least it means that business will be starting to pick up. War is always a good time.

2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government?

Somewhere important enough that I have money, women, and power but not so damn important that when things go bad, it is my fault. It is a careful balance between leading things and being the leader, you know?

3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep tour word or feast on the tears of absolute sadness?

Look, I don't really like using civilians that much. Things always get messy and my contractors don't appreciate the bad look sometimes. If it came down to it though and I had to use a loved one? I would make them spill everything. I would demand every bit of information, influence, and whatever else I can get my grubby hands on. They utter one "no" and that's that. If they comply, great. Then? I'd take the hero captive to and return their loved one to their jail cell. I'm a man of my word, after all.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?

Guards...I hate guards when I'm not on the right side of the law. Usually a heavy handed bribe will do the trick, maybe some intimidation, or just talking to the folks. Most just want to deal with drunks and pickpockets, few really want to deal with a killer.

5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do?

Attractive and they come with a risk of death? Please, I can only maintain professional composure for so long.

6. Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech.

"Well, well, well..." Draco murmured, slamming his greatsword into the ground and leaning on it. Rufus growled as he held their foe by the neck, growling at any movement while watching his master for the command. "Here I thought you were going to be more trouble. A damn shame, a damn shame indeed. I'd say I'd remember you but...you're just going to be another body on the ground. Rufus?" The dog tenses before the master clicks his tongue twice. Instincts take over and sharp teeth dig and rip. There is a wet sound and a snap. A life ends. Draco chuckles and retrieves his blade, walking away with his loyal pup by his side and a cheery tune whistling from his lips.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.

A scent of blood follows an almost cheery smile and a grizzled face. His eyes glistened with a mix of intoxication and a deadly cunning while his steps are the practiced gait of a killer. Danger emanates from him along with opportunity. No one knows which they'll receive.

While I already gave a writing sample with my swashbuckler up above, I'd figure I'd give a sample of me writing for an evil character. I'm currently in a Way of the Wicked campaign and planning an antipaladin has been super fun. I got to start Hell's Vengeance and would love to pick back up on it again.

Hell's Vengeance Questionnaire:

Hell's Vengeance Questions:
1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaws failure at Isger?
Those law-abiding blowhards? Serves'em right; pushing that obedience of the Law crap! Haha! Suckers!

2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government?
Well, let me tell you, that being a Target is not good for one's health. I see myself as the Man manipulating the Target. Ha!

3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep their word of feast on the tears of absilute sadness?
How much is she worth? To Him? On the slave block? Can I use him as leverage for a bigger score? There are plenty of lucrative possibilities here!
Will I keep my word? What kind of sissy-pansy question is that?

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
I smile. And, I allow them to give me a proper police escort to my destination. I may even allow them to return--unharmed mentally--to their lives too.

5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do?
I stop by the fanciest wine shop on the way; convince him to deliver the case to her with my apologies for my sudden cancelation. I then follow the carrier; see what she does; and surprise her with either flowers, a knife, or a prime opportunity.

6. Your lifes nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech.
Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight? No? This should be interesting then!

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.
There was a Rune Lord of Greed. He was just a bit possessive....!

Virgil quotes:

1.
Virgil laughs.

I was just juggling rubber balls, as I was disarming those traps. We each have our own talents.

2.
Perhaps, we may garner a bit of information prior to violence?

The charming 1/2 orc bows.

I have been known to be...persuasive.

3.
Virgil stands stunned; mouth agape, vivid blue eyes starring, as the group challenges the goblins to a dance off.

He starts to laugh!

Absolutely famous! Challenges to you Goblins! It's a dance off, bro!

I'm thinking a halfling sorceress with the Rakshasa bloodline, aiming for Veiled Illusionist later on. Heavy use of illusions and enchantments, since it looks like I can use those on most of the enemies in this AP. @TarkXT, is Rakshasa all right? I have a backstory in mind (most of which Rissa herself wouldn't know) to explain it. I could probably make Maestro work if I had to, but given that this is primarily an urban adventure, I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of bard submissions. Plus Bad Powers, Good People is always a fun dynamic to roleplay.

Can I take the alternate racial trait Shadowplay?

PFSRD wrote:
Shadowplay (1 RP): Characters with this trait cast spells with the darkness, light, or shadow descriptor at +1 caster level. Halflings can take this trait in place of weapon familiarity.

My Hell's vengeance character is a Dhampir, Spiritualist with the Necrologist archetype.

evil Q&A:
1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaws failure at Isger?
He doesn’t find Hellknights nearly as intimidating as they think they are.
2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government?
He isn’t a believer per se. He simply wishes to maintain the tolerance towards necromancy that makes Cheliax such a convenient place or him to live. Rising through the ranks may very well
3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep their word of feast on the tears of absolute sadness?
Having my captive’s loved ones jump through hoops sounds amusing. But at the end of the day, they will receive the hero as a zombie. Why should I deny the hero the gift of undeath to please a few non-entities?
4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
Use my magic to scare them away. Or should I have my Phantom do it? He seems awfully restless these days...
5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do?
Compare notes! Just kidding. My lovers are usually alive when I discard them. Chances are I do not truly care for this person. I shall meet with them out of curiosity and then teach them a lesson if they think to harm me.
6. Your lifes nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech.
I forgive you! I want to help you be your best self. That is why you have been buried alive. Soon you will be reborn as you were truly meant to be. That’s it! Scream! Let it all out, soon you won’t need air or food or anything. Yes...
7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.
Focused, quiet and morbid.

Sure. Just keep in mind Tieflings and Aasimar do not have a good time in Cheliax.

Here's what we got so far.

Rebels
Beorn
Nym
Tiny
Prysta
Dario

Loyalists
Jerax
Draco
Virgil
Dhampir?

Not going for a tiefling, just a sorcerer bloodline. There isn’t a physical manifestation of the Rakshasa bloodline until level 20.

Still no worries.

Does the challenge not lie in that?
Plus there's tieflings that can pass as human.
I recall a high positioned tiefling inquisitor of Asmodeus in a module.

But . For interest.

I won't make a forum alias for this for now. No point to clog the account further if this doesn't pass the pick. I do have a concept, though I am still contemplating a race to use. Would you consider it terribly silly if there was a boar-mounted gnome in the campaign? This is not decided yet. I'll let you know either way.

With all that said, name is still undecided. TBD for now.

I might make another submission for Vengeance, thought I never really did an evil campaign. From a player perspective anyway.

Rebels Submission:
1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?

Myself being sculptor and potter, I have spend may of my days around those with the affinity for arts. For inspiration, idle chat, and later for long lasting friendships. Recently, rumors have been spreading - talk of several of my friends gone from public view, or straight out missing without telling anyone. Ever since the arrival of Barzilai Thrune and the restrictions on Shelynites and their practices, my friends spoke of their discomfort in hushed voices, without curious ears in the area. With the Opera House repurposed and several of my friends missing, it is time to investigate.

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?

I have spent several years with these people and they are my friends. I will not let them rot in chains, if that is their current situation.

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?

Absolutely not. I would not betray neither my comrades nor my family or loved ones. I will not rest until the captive is free or I am dead. We would meet again between the stars if fates would will it.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?

"Do you want to tell me the barrels are not wine? I have purchased it straight from Flebberoth on the other side of Bleakbridge! Curse that scum for taking advantage of a blind man!"

Very likely would try to redirect the attention of the guards in a different direction with a little deception.

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?

"I am terribly sorry, dear, but it seems my friends scheduled a last-minute meeting conflicting with our own. I have to be there. Would you mind if I picked you up afterwards? We could go for a nice evening walk when the noise of the city dies down. Or perhaps we could meet another day?"

6. Your lifes nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby bega for his life. Do you spare him? Or is some other outcome more favorable?

I suppose it depends on the situation presented. When talking nemesis, was this a decade long neighbor strife with broken vases and pots kind of nemesis? Or was this the kind of "killed my brother and his wife in cold blood just to settle the dispute on the topic of the garden gnomes "looking suspisciously into their window overnight"? I mean if it's the latter, surely they'd understand, and probably knew what was coming.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.

Oh, nobody important, just a blind man that likes to work with clay, and dreams of seeing Desna's night sky in its full Glory.

Thanks for considering. Examples of PbP RP below

Nergi has verbal a go at some nobles.

A pilot launches a new ship for the first time, with some follow up chatter with the crew. Eli is my character.

Anibal and Abaal confuse a fruit merchant for a working girl. Anibal is my character.

Malik contemplates the usage of pit traps and their possible downsides

Malik attempts to communicate non-verbally.

Here's my application for Hell's Vengeance, a Neutral Evil Witch Gravewalker:

Character sheet:

Spoiler:

Mesriel Kil'Aielain
Male Half-Elf, Witch (Gravewalker) (1)
Alignment: NE
Age: 28
Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Brown
Deity: Urgathoa
Height: 5ft 7 inches
Weight: 120 kg
Init: +2; Perception +2
Favored Classes: Witch (+1 Skill)
Languages: Common, Elven, Infernal, Celestial, Shadowtongue, Necril

Special Abilities:
Low-Light Vision Half-elves can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light.

Elf Blood: Half-elves count as both elves and humans for any effect related to race.

Elven Immunities: Half-elves are immune to magic sleep effects and get a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells and effects.

Adaptability: Half-elves receive Skill Focus as a bonus feat at 1st level.

Keen Senses: Half-elves receive a +2 racial bonus on Perception skill checks.

Arcane Training: Half-elves occasionally seek tutoring to help them master the magic in their blood. Half-elves with this racial trait have only one favored class, and it must be an arcane spellcasting class. They can use spell trigger and spell completion items for their favored class as if one level higher (or as a 1st-level character if they have no levels in that class).

Spell Poppet: Each gravewalker carries around a gristly, inanimate poppet stitched from human skin and stuffed with shards of bone, fingernails, and grave dirt. A gravewalker’s spells come from the will of evil spirits residing in the poppet, and its ability to hold spells functions in a manner identical to the way a witch’s spells are granted by her familiar. The gravewalker must commune with her poppet each day to prepare her spells and cannot prepare spells that are not stored in the poppet.

Aura of Desecration: At first level, a gravewalker can create a 20-foot-radius aura of evil power. This aura increases the DC of channeled negative energy by +1 and the turn resistance of undead by +1. At 3rd level and every 2 levels thereafter, the radius of the aura increases by 5 feet, to a maximum of 70 feet at 20th level.

Bonethrall: At 1st level, a gravewalker can take control of an undead creature within her aura of desecration by forcing her will upon it (Will negates, using her hex DC.) If it fails the save, the creature falls under her control as if she had used command undead (once control is established, the undead remain controlled even if outside the witch’s aura). Intelligent undead receive a new saving throw each day to resist her command. The witch can control up to 1 HD of undead creatures per caster level. If an undead creature is under the control of another creature, the witch must make an opposed Charisma check whenever her orders conflict with that creature’s.
This replaces the witch’s hex gained at 4th level.

Cantrips: These spells are cast like any other spell, but they are not expended when cast and may be used again. Cantrips prepared using other spell slots, due to metamagic feats for example, are expended normally.

Patron: Occult

Hexes:
1st Level: Misfortune:  (DC 15) The witch can cause a creature within 30 feet to suffer grave misfortune for 1 round. Anytime the creature makes an ability check, attack roll, saving throw, or skill check, it must roll twice and take the worse result. A Will save negates this hex.

Spoiler:
1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaws failure at Isger?
"A pity, really, though it cannot be said that the Order and I have always seen eye to eye. Not that we were ever enemies, of course- nothing so coarse. Something about the art of war and the excellency of a strict life have never touched my soul, I'm afraid. Not quite cut for it, I suppose. But the victory that the Iomedeans have brought home that day, that I consider a problem. And if I can be of use to make the smug smile that no doubt adorn their faces go away... Well, history has proven us that petty philosophical differences simply have no place as far as fruitful alliances are concerned."

2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government?
"Ah. Money and politics. Two very noble purposes, indeed, my dear. But alas, to the man who has no other ambition but to reach the plenitude of a peaceful life, they are mere encumbrances. But if you recall our conversation about philosophical differences, there is something to be said about the pragmatical approach of diabolists to alliances. When a man in my particular line of work intends to establish himself, he may find himself in dire need of powerful patrons. This is exactly what I'm looking for, and what I will hopefully find once my debt to the nation of Chelix has been repaid in full. Make no mistake, my dear: I am fully aware that this might take a certain time..."

3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep their word of feast on the tears of absolute sadness?
Why should they want to return? Isn't the gift of an eternal life the greatest one of all?

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
He'd never accept such a job on his own, knowing the risks he would be faced with as a spellcaster. He'd probably create a distraction for his allies to exploit, by talking their ears off or casting Cause Fear.

5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do?
Go, of course. How could he miss a chance to trade a little death for the grander one? It would be folly to refuse!

6. Your life's nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech.
"At last, Father, I will grant you the greatest gift of all. The gift of eternal life. The one you have denied my mother. For I am nothing if not a man of honour. May your Goddess absolve you before you are torn out from her embrace."

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.
A gracious, though somewhat aloof man, whose affable smile can make one's blood run cold with the certitude that they have just caught a glimpse of something terrifying. A trick of the light, no doubt.

Cure Light Wounds is not a spell he has currently at the ready, but I do intend him to know it and be able to prepare and cast it, because it can sure come in handy!

Dotting for interest. Is it okay to answer both sets of questions if you're interested in either one?

Another submisstion, this time for Vengeance. Again, no name for the time being, just a character concept.

Vengeance Submission:

1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaws failure at Isger?

Power rules, weakness fails. I guess the Order was not up for the task after all. Time for someone better suited to take their place. What can one sword do in the grand scheme of things? Not much. A sword is only as strong as whoever is wielding it. And I heard of no gods fighting with the Reclamation. I suppose, as a symbol of their rebellion, it is fairly effective. But the sqeuaky wheel gets flailed. Or something like that.

2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government?

How high can ambitious mercenary get on this ladder? A position of power in one of the Hellknight orders will do, I suppose. And then we shall see. Everyone has a weakness. One just needs to find it, and exploit it. On the other hand, one's position does not need to be public to be influential.

3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep their word of feast on the tears of absilute sadness?

Each individual is motivated differently. A paladin and their love interest, for example, could be reunited after he publicly denounces their god and/or patron, with some nefariously juicy, and morally objectionable deed is fullfilled. Publicly, of course. And yes, I am a man of my word.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?

Why would I haul contraband to begin with? I am a loyal, law abiding citizen. Either their eyes are decieving them or I have been set up, and will act as such.

5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do?

Compare the pros and cons of this transaction. A night of passion is probably not worth dying for, however unique it might be. If forced, a nice backup plan might be in order. Find some dirt on this person, and make a contingency plan in case I do not leave said room. And be sure to announce it to the other party before the deed.

6. Your lifes nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech.

Well, here you are. On your self-righteous knees. Was it worth it? We had a nice relationship, you and I. A lovely little back and forth for several years. It is unfortunate that you had to do what you did, but I do admire a man of his word. How many men did you fell before you got to this point? Is your life more valuable than theirs? How many lives is your own life worth? I am sure it is at least a few dozen. What makes you so special, then? Think about that while you are bleeding out.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.

Power and ambition can be combined into something wonderful, if applied in the right places. One should pick their battles, and strike when your target least expects it. A little lie here and there, evidence that suddenly appeared, and someone else will solve the problem for you. Assuming the laws work as intended.

I recall a high positioned tiefling inquisitor of Asmodeus in a module.

Sure. Im just being upfront about it. Tieflings in high places are very much the exception rather than the rule. Just ask Westcrown.

TarkXT wrote:

@Dario Cruz

I am thinking a little of column A and a little of column B. I think Dario prefers to go under the radar until he can strike at the core of the enemy. However, emotions could get the best of him at times if he has a chance for vengeance right then and there.

TarkXT wrote:

@Draco

That I'm the best, obviously. :P

Draco isn't just some dumb thug walking around with a big sword on his back. Draco is wise enough to know that he is not the end all, be all. His comrades have unique skills and any unit needs to use their skills to the best. That means being willing to step back and let the specialist do their job. Loaded with social skills while eventually growing into a decent tracker, demoralization beast, and having a nasty dog beside him, Draco comes with a lot of goodness...err...evilness.

@Nazard

So is nym basically on the run from the family shes enslaved to? Im assuming theyre still in Kintargo?

She isn’t on the run YET, since all she’s done so far is leave the manor without permission. They would probably just have her beaten and whipped or something, Lord Sarini would inflict his own brand of domination-establishment, and then she’d be back. But if she goes to this rally and is seen, or doesn’t return within a day or two…she’s a trusted slave as far as slaves go.

There wasn’t room in the Q&A to talk about the orphanage she grew up in nor the special school that she went to that taught her unique brand of unarmed combat designed to create and train these innocuous bodyguards. Come to think of it, the folks at her training school will also probably be out for her—leaving like that reflects badly on their reputation, too, and they’ll want to drag her back in chains.

All that being said, she is just one runaway slave. There might be a reward for her, maybe a bounty of some sort, but they probably aren’t calling in the Hellknights to raze the city looking for her. And yes, her mistress and her father, a minor lordling/glorified merchant of House Sarini, still lives in Kintargo. Her father has several holdings within the city slums known as Devil’s Something (don’t have the player’s guide in front of me), which is why I picked that particular celebrity for her trait.

Submission Questions:

1. What drove you against the current rulership of Kintargo?

The current Lord Mayor Brazzilai Thrune, is just a glove covering Egorian’s hand. Queen Abrogail has decided loyalty isn’t enough, Kintargo must be flattened like the rest of Cheliax. The most immediate reason I resist is because my kind has in the past been able to find relief from Cheliax’s worst abuses in Kintargo, and that will no longer be true. But the same is no less true for any of Kintargo’s residents, regardless of ancestry. Tieflings in Kintargo have asked for more than would be imaginable elsewhere in Cheliax. We may have only received half a loaf in return, but that is far better than slavery and death. Now it’s time for us to give back in return.

2. What stops you from simply leaving for a better nation like Absalom, Andoran or Varisia?

When you look like I do, am what I am, there aren’t many choices. Kintargo sure isn’t perfect. Tieflings aren’t always treated well, but I don’t live in fear. I can walk the streets without being beaten or spit on just because I’m visible. We tieflings have a community here, poor as it is. We have the Cloven Hoof Society; we’re not scattered and alone. These things are worth sticking it out and fighting for.

3. A loved one has been captured. You were promised their safe return in exchange for betraying your comrades. What form will your betrayal take?

Your question is framed in a way that I assume precludes the possibility of a successful rescue. I’ll answer your question within those terms; my choices are limited to compliance or noncompliance. I would agree to feed information to the captors. I would immediately afterward inform my comrades I will be doing so. We would begin the disinformation campaign at that point. I will reliably inform, delivering information that isn’t actionable or misleads. There will of course be some accurate information included so the ruse can be maintained, but the activities or people the accurate information involves will be insulated from significant activities and plans beforehand.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?

I let them search. If I’m driving the cart there was a plan. That plan will assume a high probability of something like a search occurring, and it will be accounted for. Depending on the particulars of the contraband, it will be under layers of mundane items, or disguised as unremarkable things. Maybe a bit of magic is on standby to misdirect the guards, or a distraction like a fight is ready to draw them away. If they’re angling for a bribe, I have the money on hand to pay it. Whatever the particulars might be, anyone who is a serious person will not let themself be caught sitting there unprepared. The contingencies will have been covered.

5. Someone you fancy has finally agreed on a day out on the town just you and them. However an important meeting in your organization is being held at the same time and you found out after the date was set. What do you do?

I’ve never really had a date before and this would be disappointing. But I think if this someone really liked me they would understand when I have to ask the day be moved to another time. If they couldn't understand (and I mean, hopefully they would also be a bit disappointed) I think it would be a sign that we are not actually a good match.

6. Your life’s nemesis is at your mercy. But his close family nearby begs for his life. Do you spare him? Or is some other outcome more favorable?

Hang on, that’s a very loaded question. We need to unpack some things before I answer. Because I don’t have a nemesis and never have, you’re asking me to make a decision about a hypothetical. But a nemesis is a vague term. If a person were my nemesis because they repeatedly claimed credit for things I’ve done, or routinely disparaged me, it would be beyond awful for me to even take things to where they are at the beginning of your question, with family begging for the person’s life. But, if the person were my nemesis because they had murdered everyone in my neighborhood and burned my house down, were absolutely unrepentant and would immediately escape justice, then I certainly may not be moved by their family’s pleas. I won’t allow you pin me to a course of action in this way. If you demand an answer, I will say that I prefer dialogue to violence, justice to vengeance, and proportionality is my rule.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who you're character is.

Despite the best efforts and intentions of all those who had a hand in raising me, a time came when I was younger where I became involved with some people and things I’m not proud of. I picked up some disreputable skills, I’m a fast learner. Fortunately I came to my senses before it was too late.

Now I’m concerned with helping my community. I would never speak ill of the The Cloven Hoof Society or Strea Vestori. The society’s work is crucial and I have the greatest admiration for Strea Vestori. The Cloven Hoof Society can’t meet every need though. I tend to the problems they cannot since those less admirable skills of mine can be put to good uses. Sometimes things or people go missing, so I try to find them and bring them back to where they belong. I keep my eyes open and my ear to the ground. I listen for the latest news and pass it on. When wrongs are done or crimes are committed, I look into them when the dottari will not, which is typical in our part of the city. If I find those responsible, I bring the evidence to the dottari. They seem more willing to take action if the hard work is done for them.

I take payment if it can be given, but I accept barter if not. If neither is possible, good will is still credit for future favors and must suffice. Everyone will needs a favor eventually, being able to ask the right person for it is worth its weight in gold.

Why a charlatan?

"You know, that's a good question. I thought of becoming a medium once. It's ridiculously easy. You just need an old shawl, practice staring vacantly into the void, and steal a crystal ball from a Varisian medium. Alright, maybe not that easy. And do you know what you get in the end? Some guy bawling his eyes out and running away, calling you a liar. All because you told him his mama was proud of him and he knew it wasn't true. Didn't even pay. And anyway, there's too much competition. No, not the Varisians- customers don't like their mediums to tell them the truth. I know- tricky job, innit?"

____

All jokes aside, two main reasons, mostly.

The first is that I haven't been playing a lot of socially adept characters lately, and I wanted to vary my RP experience a little with a less shy character. Although some rogue archetypes would have been a good fit for Litsy and the campaign, such as Nameless Shadow, I therefore preferred a build that was more focused on Charisma.

The second reason was, mainly, what archetype would be a good fit for Litsy's backstory, because I knew that I wanted her to have grown up as a street urchin. She would have had to cooperate with others and rely on them to survive, as well as learning how to talk her way out of a situation that has become perilous to her or one of her allies. Charlatan simply tied in nicely to the character I envisioned her to be: the heavy focus on deception and lies, some rogue talents relying on networking (like black market connections), treating foes as allies in melee range to create new opportunities for flanking... All of which would be pretty fun to RP! (I do hope it's not too situational for the AP, in which case... Well there's still time to choose another archetype, I guess!)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I’ve gone back and forth on this, but I think I will submit a character for HV, too. I wasn’t going to, but then this kernel of an idea for an elven slayer (sniper/executioner) kept growing in my mind. I have no crunch, but here are the questions.

Q&A:

1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaws failure at Isger?
Gods have agendas which may, or more likely may not, be in the best interest of an ordered society. A society which tries to blend the interests of five different gods is pure folly. Society is better off without the meddling of divine beings (including that of Asmodean, of course).

2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government?
Pharice is a cog within the well-ordered machine that is government. Government and the law is everything and everyone has their place. His place is to kill people the state in its collective wisdom have deemed needing to be killed.

3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep their word of feast on the tears of absilute sadness?
The hero must sabotage any and all of their efforts against the state and those of their companions. Then of course they must turn themselves in to the prophet authorities for the crimes theyve committed. Then, of course, the loved one will be released unharmed. If he were to start breaking his word, he would be no better than the hero. Of course, if the loved one was also guilty of crimes against the state, then that’s another story entirely.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
Why would I have contraband? Do I know I have contraband? If I’m guilty of smuggling contraband, then I submit myself to the authorities, pay my fine, and move on. If the contraband is so vile that the state determines I should die for my crime, then death is what I deserve.

5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do?
Assuming this person is loyal to the state, I’m not a machine, I have needs and desires, too. But if these rumours abound, I am not taking any chances: I won’t drink anything or eat anything, and there will be no kinky bondage crap. If I feel I’m longer in control of the situation, I’m out of there.

6. Your lifes nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech.
”Your life is forfeit. What do the wants of an individual matter against the needs of the many? You chose to advance yourself instead of society, and for this, you pay with your life.”
Of course, all that is an internal monologue thought from 50 feet away before pulling the trigger on my crossbow. Only idiots ramble at their prey in person giving them a chance to escape.

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.
I am a scalpel who cuts out the cancer of society with no compunction, weakness, or mercy. I am death to those who weaken civilization with their corrupting presence.

I haven’t played any evil characters in so long (before these boards), but here’s a sample of some villainous NPCs. They’re a group of four Norgorborites who each represent one facet of that god, completely owning the PCs in a social setting before they were finally forced to flee and then butchered out in the wilderness.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Accuracy (Ex) At 1st level, a sniper halves all range increment penalties when making ranged attacks with a bow, crossbow, or firearm.

Crossbow Training (Racial) An elf with this trait can reload a light crossbow as a free action and a heavy crossbow as a move action, provided that she is proficient with the weapon. If she selects the Rapid Reload feat for a heavy crossbow, she can reload the weapon as a free action. This racial trait replaces weapon familiarity.

Ex-Iomedaean (Trait) +1 to attack and weapon damage rolls against Iomedaean and most angels and archons.

History of Heresy (Trait) +1 bonus to all saves vs divine magic.

Silent Hunter (Racial) Elves are renowned for their subtlety and skill. Elves with this racial trait reduce the penalty for using Stealth while moving by 5 and can make Stealth checks while running at a –20 penalty (this number includes the penalty reduction from this racial trait). This racial trait replaces elven magic.

Studied Target (Ex)A slayer can study an opponent he can see as a move action. The slayer then gains a +1 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks attempted against that opponent, and a +1 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against it. The DCs of slayer class abilities against that opponent increase by 1. A slayer can only maintain these bonuses against one opponent at a time; these bonuses remain in effect until either the opponent is dead or the slayer studies a new target.

If a slayer deals sneak attack damage to a target, he can study that target as an immediate action, allowing him to apply his studied target bonuses against that target (including to the normal weapon damage roll).

At 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th levels, the bonuses on weapon attack rolls, damage rolls, and skill checks and to slayer DCs against a studied target increase by 1. In addition, at each such interval, the slayer is able to maintain these bonuses against an additional studied target at the same time. The slayer may discard this connection to a studied target as a free action, allowing him to study another target in its place.

At 7th level, a slayer can study an opponent as a move or swift action.

For a humanoid, all of these bonuses are at +1, and at -1 for everything else.

Kept thinking this after the slayers villain speech.

Hell's Vengeance submission
Initially thought up as a tiefling resembling This Character

But to be honest, I could envision him also an half-orc or burly human.
Starting as a barbarian following Zun-Kuthon in his way and would work up to a Pain Taster.

Questions:

1. What is your opinion of the Order of the Godclaws failure at Isger?
Their perverted tenets of law through force have been taken down a peg. They have zeal, I'll grant them that, but it only carries them so far. Now enjoyment of battle, pain and battlelust, the thrill of joining battle in his name, that's the drive I seek. Those Iomedeans know the power of that and winning that sword back makes 'em even more so aware. That could make them dangerous opponents, but also thrilling ones to face.

2. Where do you see yourself in the high echelons of Cheliax's tangled web of government?
The higher circles hmm? I am not so sure one such as myself immediately qualifies for such a thing. I am no lord or politician. Never have been or will be, though pressuring someone through force or fear, that is right up my alley. A strongarm or hitman to do dirty deeds for an upcoming noble? Count me in.

3. You have captured the loved one of a hero. What do you make them do in exchange for their safe return? Will you keep their word or feast on the tears of absolute sadness?
Safe return is such a broad term, heroes always seem to imply no harm is done, I'd rather think of it as returning them alive, I would never promise unharmed. What's the fun in that? Though watching a so-called hero be thrown into a fighting pit to fight in a series of cruel adversaries for others amusement, I might be more merciful then.

4. You are transporting a cartload of contraband in a public street when a pair of bored guards stop you talking about passage fees, potential fines and a requirement to search your cart. What do you do?
I'm not much of a talker, if I would have a cartload of contraband with me, I would make sure it is covered in something they would not want to touch. Manure from the stables off towards the fields, trash or refuse with sharp edges or dead bodies.

5. Someone powerful you fancy has invited you into their bedchambers. However there are many unpleasant rumors to the fate of their partners. What do you do?
Kinky, I like that. Naturally I would go. There's not much anyone could do to me that I don't already have scars for. If it's something new, well that means a new experience, a new scar and a good story to tell. Hah!

6. Your lifes nemesis is at your mercy. Give me your villain speech.
"So... Finally we got to this point huh?", the spiked chain rinkles heavily as it's released from my grasp. "You put up a good fight, but you lost, regardless of the power of your faith. What's that? You don't fear death? Aww, that's cute, whoever said anything about death?"

7. Without describing their job, name, or appearance tell me who your character is.
A lover of fights, collector of scars and dealer in pain. Some say pain is so close to pleasure, for him both terms are often the same thing.
