Mirianna Tangier |
I typically only have one Magic weapon prepared, but assuming I knew we were planning to spend the whole day at the festival activities I could have prepared a second.
Artival Brisboir |
Artival decides to trust his own abilities (and better armor) and engages the opponent.
Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Damage from heavy mace 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
If that mace isn’t okay, then substitute whatever weapon would be provided to me, please, GM.
GM Qstor |
Before striking the man introduces himself as Munvaln.
"Well met..." he says.
- - - -
He is staggered from the blow from Artival's mace. He tries to swing.
attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
But he is clearly staggered and misses.
The rest of the party sees Talla's father's man clearly beat his opponent.
Her father walks over and whispers something in his ear and pats him on the back.
An older female halfling sits near Singol and nods to him.
"Good morning young man" She sets her cane on her knee.
Artival Brisboir |
The warrior offers his opponent the opportunity to yield. ”Is the battle over,” he pauses, waiting for a response. Assuming the man stands down, Artival accepts and shakes his hand.
If the opponent elects to continue the battle, Arty responds in kind.
Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Michael Lyons 953 |
An older female halfling sits near Singol and nods to him."Good morning young man" She sets her cane on her knee.
Singol is enjoying the contest. Cheering and clapping when Artival spears the rings, and again in his melee combat. Singol does appreciate Artival's skill at arms and his sense of honor. Perhaps he can make a good tomb exploring companion.
"Good morning, grandmother." He stands as she sits down, then sits back down himself. "I am Singol. Are you enjoying the festival?"
Duraz Carron |
Duraz looks to the elderly halfling and says a little annoyed to have his attention taken from the duel "We've been traveling together, sure. HAHAHAHAHAHA, look at your footing fool!", he yells at the contestant.
GM Qstor |
Artival misses and the warrior swings back.
attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
----
The crowd yells at Artival as Duraz incites them.
"Finish him!"
The older halfling appears a bit annoyed.
"Hmph"
One the sidelines, Talla's father paces as his champion waits for another opponent.
Duraz Carron |
Realizing he isn't being the most diplomat as he could be, Duraz recomposes himself. He says to the elderly "Forgive me, my lady. I was once held by orcs, I suppose their savagery imprinted on me." He thinks She can be a good ally. Maybe she has influence here. The Stormlord would not approve of me distancing from a potential ally.
Realizing a nearby half-orc looking at him somewhat cross, he says to him "no offense, of course". He focuses on the halfling and says "I promise I will be more pleasant after the duel." He hopes this is enough to make her let him enjoy the duel. Maybe the time as an orc slave did, in fact, rub off on him an enjoyment of watching two people fighting in a ring.
Singol of the Black Mesa |
The opponent says. "Do your best! I am ready to still face you!"
- - -
The old halfling turns to Singol.
"Oh yes...Are you?" she leans in towards him. "I heard you and your friends are adventurers?"
"Yes I am. Much more pleasant than what we've been doing the past few days."
"We are adventurers. Duraz here, I think he is our leader. Grandmother, are you in need of adventurers? Or are you looking to join us?"
GM Qstor |
Artival misses and the man swings again.
attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
"You won't best me!"
- - -
The old halfling pats the cleric's hand. "Yes dearie let's talk afterwards." She then turns to Singol. "Yes young man, but your friend says we must talk later!"
In the crowd a vendor calls out, "Fresh cinnamon rolls! Get fresh rolls!"
Duraz Carron |
Minding his weight, Duraz refrains from buying a cinnamon roll. He screams at Artival "You're terrible! Give up sword fighting and start working as a rat catcher!"
Artival Brisboir |
The ‘warrior’ was now contemplating a change in his lifestyle, since battle obviously wasn’t a strong suit of his. He wasn’t ready to quit, so he returns an attack.
Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Possible Crit 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Mirianna Tangier |
Mirianna watches the contest chuckling, nodding to Duraz, "Yes, I think I could have handled this as well if they weren't against watching a woman fight."
Singol of the Black Mesa |
The old halfling pats the cleric's hand. "Yes dearie let's talk afterwards." She then turns to Singol. "Yes young man, but your friend says we must talk later!"
In the crowd a vendor calls out, "Fresh cinnamon rolls! Get fresh rolls!"
"Fresh cinnamon rolls!" Singol turns to locate the vendor.
"Okay, after the fight."
He cheers after Artival's critical hit on the warrior. "Yes! Yes! You can do it!"
Duraz Carron |
Duraz replies to Mirianna "Well, those fights are interesting too. Often a little slower, but the females have usually much more durability than males, it ends being more tactical."
GM Qstor |
The man falls under Artival's last swing. Aides throw water on him and he gets up in a minute and looks dismayed.
"Prepare for the next round" the announcer calls out. Someone ways Artival forward as there are only four people left.
The crowd erupts in cheers for the next round.
one round to prep
Mirianna Tangier |
Mirianna watches eagerly, hoping that their new companion acquitted himself well, and listening to the halflings talking nearby.
If I'm following correct this is the semi-final and if Artival wins there's one more match? If so I'll use Magic Weapon before the final.
Singol of the Black Mesa |
Arty calls out in pain after being sliced through by the wicked weapon. He returns the thrust in kind with his Longsword.
Attack with PA 1d20+5
Damage 1d8+5
Singol cringes at the mighty blows struck by the two combatants. "Those two are laying into each other hard. Have they met before?"
"Duraz, Mirianna, is Artival going to be in any shape to fight after this duel?"
GM Qstor |
Mirianna watches eagerly, hoping that their new companion acquitted himself well, and listening to the halflings talking nearby.
If I'm following correct this is the semi-final and if Artival wins there's one more match? If so I'll use Magic Weapon before the final.
Yep, ok
Artival easy dispatches the gladiator with one swing. Gruthal also easily beats his opponent and the two appear the last ones standing.
The announcer cries out. "Congratulations! Two left! Get ready for the final bout!"
Talia's father Frompir can be heard boasting "That country lout is NO match for my man! She's to marry whom I say...or not at all!"
Talia appears worried for her future.
Jerand Talia's farmer boyfriend heads towards Artival. "Are you SURE you can take him! He appears SO strong! Let me try!"
Mirianna Tangier |
"They aren't fighting with lethal blades- I'm sure after a good night's rest he'll be good as new."
just before the match starts i cast magic weapon +1 attack and damage
Duraz Carron |
Duraz says "Finally, Jerand is standing up for himself. I will help you magically if you choose to fight."
Duraz says "You're holding yourself pretty well for someone you don't know. The Stormlord blesses your strength."
CLW spontaneous from Command: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Artival Brisboir |
Artival raises an eyebrow at the burly fellow offering to take his place. ”Nonsense, I’m fine. He just got a lucky blow in there. I’m battling for the love of both of you. That’s worth a quick slash with a blade!”
The fighter is quite pleased when Duraz magically heals him. ”Ah, basically as good as new! Thank you ky friend...”
Artival Brisboir |
Artival nods. ”I’m ready!”. Once the participants were prepared, Arty took a strong swing with his enhanced weapon.
Power Attack with magic weapon 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 1 = 15
Damage 1d8 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 1 = 13
Artival Brisboir |
Made the change
Arty got smacked solidly. He says a quick prayer, and activates his Smite Evil ability. If the enemy isn’t evil, it wouldn’t have any effect. He swings again.
Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Damage 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
If this person is evil, add +3 to hit and +1 to damage. Thanks.

Mirianna stands, drawing her sword and waiting to see if Duraz' words have forestalled the situation.
Singol of the Black Mesa |
Singol cheers at Artival's victory, only to stifle a shout when the father rushes in with a naked blade.
He stands, placing himself between the older halfling woman and potential trouble. Singol's hand is on his weapon's hilt, the blade still sheathed.
"Do not fear, grandmother. The big folk can handle this."
GM Qstor |
Talia's father, Frompir curses at Duraz.
"Dammed priest! Take this!"
And stabs. The dagger hits the cleric of the Stormlord drawing blood.
