I remain seeking counsel, for wisdom is ever a high goal. In return for thy excellent counsel, I offer my own: do not be so quick to raise up arms against us before hearing what we have to say. The consequences for both of us for starting a confrontation shall be...severe."

Shot Putter Funkmeister

No matter what you say, she is going to go after her astrolabe. So, if your goal is to have her stop, so that Zairiah or one of the others can get their hands on it first. It won't work. If it is just to de-escalate things, maybe after she retrieves it, she might be willing to speak with you. I guess. Zairiah chasing after the astrolabe has not made your case any easier. If it is to talk after she gets it, sure roll another Charisma. I hope that helps.

Yeah, agree that I am not helping a peaceful solution, but I really don't know if there was much chance of that to begin with. Our opponent kidnapped someone. In any case, Zairiah doesn't know that she can't catch it without magic. She is fast and has good hands, so she thinks she can get it, and that getting it is the whole point of all of this. I am sure that she will learn differently soon, but she's still trying to do as the Genie asked.

Sorry, I was away for the weekend and apparently Stuff Happened.

Since the gambit is up, Fadilah says, "You know as well as I that to imprison geniekind is a gross violation of our guarantees of friendship with them, and that such actions carry consequences. Our very presence here is such a consequence!"

"But I am not here to moralize at you. The gifts of the genies that you have taken in this way cannot and will not remain yours forever, and so we are at a crossroads. You may freely give up the genie that you have bound and put this at an end. I know that this creates hardship and it is an undesirable path, yet the alternative is the enmity of genie-kind and their allies—such as ourselves."

"Have they not given to us the aid and assistance of gens to bring us whatever wondrous magic we might wish to pluck out of the ether? Is not this bounty enough for us to create our own paradise, without needing to throw shackles upon the very same genies who have made this bond with us for the sake of friendship?"

"If you will not be swayed by the misfortune that you have wrought upon genies kept by means of a binding prison, then consider that the consequences of attracting the ire of genie-kind are fierce. Even if you should find the means to drive us off, the genies now know that you are a keeper of prisons and there will be others. Again. And again. You will spend your days on the run, always fearing genie-craft, wondering who among the people you meet are strangers and who are foes. Even sending forth your gen for spell will risk retribution as other genie-kind might follow it back to you. Pragmatically, this situation cannot persist."

Fadilah plants her staff in the sand as if to punctuate her point, but really it's in case she needs to call upon it to blast the other sha'ira if she does something inadvisable.

Most of the party is fighting near the entrance of the tent and the other two are at the back

Insnare do you want me to just jump in or wait for the narrator to give me a cue?

Write an introductory text about how you saw the fight and the guards chasing chipluck and orvan and you decided to dive into the well.

stat: 5d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 3, 2) = 18

stat: 5d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 3, 3, 1) = 18

stat: 5d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 6, 2, 5) = 20

stat: 5d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 2, 4, 5) = 18

stat: 5d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 2, 5) = 15

stat: 5d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6, 1, 3) = 17

What type of character does this group need really?

An extra Warrior would not hurt.. Maybe a Faris.

I was thinking a elven warrior Archer kit build if I was to go that way. I am not familiar with Faris, where do I find it as I have most of 2nd Ed books

It is in the Al Qadim setting book. We have one outlander. I think one is better than two. Please use one of the Al Qadim kits.

what god is Nabila worshipping? I could as a Faris be following her to protect her depending on the god.

The great god Najm, he (sometimes she) is the god of adventure, courage, and curiosity.

Silver Crusade

here is my half orc Faris Maudril Sandcaster.

Hey Everyone,

Have you ever wanted to play an Arabian Nights themed character?

Well if so, my Al-Qadim campaign could use two or three new characters.

I am looking for 2nd level AD&D 2nd Edition characters.

Would anyone be interested?

Come and join us! We need some new blood!

I’d be interested in an Arabian Knights themed game! But to give you fair warning I have not played 2nd edition in over 20 years and do not have access to any of the books (I’ll see if I can find a cheap pdf somewhere). If you are willing to guide/help with the build process I’d love to play.

Let’s roll some dice:

5d6: 5d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2, 6, 5) = 22 =17
5d6: 5d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 3, 4, 2) = 12 =9
5d6: 5d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 1, 6, 6) = 19 =17
5d6: 5d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5, 1, 6) = 19 =16
5d6: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 5, 5, 5) = 25 =16
5d6: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 4, 3, 1) = 17 =13

Yep those are keepers.

Also, what does your party need class wise?

Regardless, good luck with your recruitment!

We're a pretty casual group in the midst of a big caravan journey, though we just got shortcut to a corsair encampment and there's about to be a big throwdown!

I'm playing a sha'ir, a kind of genie-themed magic-user. Nura (above) is a corsair, a nautical-themed fighter. We also have a cleric. We could probably use some kind of thief, because our beggar had to leave!

Sounds good. I just purchased the pdf I’ll take a look at the options.

I think I’ll go with a barber.

Dinars: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10 (10x10) 100 dinars
Station: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

I'm interested, if you're still looking for another. I've still got my old 2E books, but I don't think I've got any of the Al-Qadim setting material. I'll check tonight.

And start thinking up concepts.

Can't resist....

5d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 5, 4, 5) = 23 = 15
5d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 4, 6, 2) = 22 = 16
5d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 1, 2, 5) = 18 = 15
5d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 1, 1, 5) = 15 = 13
5d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 3, 4, 5) = 21 = 14
5d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 3, 6, 3) = 17 = 13

Solid...I'll grab my ok 2nd Ed books and see what inspiration comes...

I don't know if we still have our holy warrior or not, but I'm the other active character at the moment, an elven priestess of Najm.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

A barber... that is awesome... shoot I need a haircut actually :)

I just need to iron out some odds and ends. How much experience are we starting with?

Everyone else is just turned second level give or take.

So let's see what we get:
5d6 - 1 - 2 ⇒ (6, 4, 1, 6, 2) - 1 - 2 = 16
5d6 - 1 - 1 ⇒ (6, 1, 6, 2, 1) - 1 - 1 = 14
5d6 - 1 - 2 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 6, 2) - 1 - 2 = 16
5d6 - 2 - 3 ⇒ (2, 4, 5, 3, 5) - 2 - 3 = 14
5d6 - 1 - 1 ⇒ (6, 1, 1, 3, 3) - 1 - 1 = 12
5d6 - 1 - 2 ⇒ (2, 1, 5, 3, 3) - 1 - 2 = 11

Since all the bases seem to be covered, I'm thinking multiclass to backup a couple of them. An Elemental Mage/Matrud, probably half-elf, possibly gnome.

I'll try to work up stats and background tonight.

For level it's convenient to have an xp number to work with in AD&D, since xp needed can vary widely. For multiclass especially, but there's wide split - thieves are usually about a level ahead in particular.

This is Mr. Hebeme's submission, Wahleed the Barber, all the information is in the alias. I still need to buy equipment and determine hit points.

Which leads to my next question; are you rolling or taking average hit points (or some other method)? I am assuming max hit points at first level.

Any feedback or advice would be welcome.

Hi, all of the other characters rolled for their original HP from level 1. XP should be about 2200. I hope that helps.

As usual once I think I have settled on an idea a million others pop into my mind. Thinking about changing to dual classed. Changing his strength to 17 and starting as a fighter (not sure which kit) and dual classing to thief. So I would begin as a fighter 2, thief (barber) 1. After looking at the amount of damage a razor does (1d2) the better strength and weapon specialization will make it bearable to use in combat. I realize he would not benefit from Weapon specialization until he reached 3rd level but I’m fine with that.

Also I’m thinking on taking the animal training non weapon proficiency and starting with a small monkey. Thoughts?

EDIT: Also, I am not sure how non weapon proficiencies are handled with dual class characters. Would I not get any new ones at the thief 1st level and be able to use ones earned as a fighter or would I earn new ones as a thief and not be able to use the ones taken as a fighter until 3rd level.

The Askar kit looks most appropriate as the fighter levels with a few tweaks to his background.

I am a bit confused. Your character should start at second level. Not third level.

A dual-classed human fighter with 2,200 xp would be a second-level fighter (from the xp total) and then switch to a first-level thief with no experience points (changing class).

Fadilah is correct. Here is a link https://advanced-dungeons-dragons-2nd-edition.fandom.com/wiki/Multi-Class_a nd_Dual-Class_Characters explaining dual class. It is seldom used because you must be human and have pretty good stats (I’ve only done it once before).

Fair enough. Would Mamluk make more sense for you instead of Askar? If you were a Mamluk, it will be really easy to get your character in the game quickly, because the characters are being escorted by a group of Mamluks, so one of them could be you.

I can make a Mamluk work. I will need to make some changes but it leads to another question are half orcs allowed ( I’d go f/t). The half orc racial bonus to strength would allow me to roll for exceptional strength.... I can’t remember the last time I got to do that!!

Thanks for your patience and answering my questions.

I'm going to have to pass. Interested, but I don't know when I'll have any time to even think about a character. Hey Tamago!

I do not mind if you want to be a half ork.

Sweet.

%: 1d100 ⇒ 36

That's usually what happens. Although in 1986 I did roll a PC with an 18/00 str.

HP: 1d10 ⇒ 9

I'll start building my mamluk/barber.

Height: 2d6 + 60 ⇒ (2, 5) + 60 = 67
Weight: 6d10 + 135 ⇒ (2, 7, 6, 1, 10, 1) + 135 = 162

Just need to sort out equipment and add some details to his background and I’ll be done.

Questions
1. Who owns the Mamluks the party is with
2. Name of the commander
3. City the Mamluks are from

Edit:

Forgot barber hit points

HP: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Here the alias I, Mr. Hebeme, will be using. Everything should be in order (except some background details). Let me know if I need to change anything.

Thanks - H

The person in overall charge of the guards is Akila Abd al-Amin (hfF/mk/8), a small, wiry woman whose pride in her unit, The Faithful, is evident. Under her command is a company of mamluks (three 10-mamluk platoons, each with a 4th-level sergeant). The PCs have been assigned to coordinate their duties with the third platoon under the command of Nudar Abd al-Amin (hefF/mk/4). Nudar is well liked and easygoing.

You would have been working in Qudra, which is where you should be going back to. Nudar is with you.

Now I am confused, are you multiclassing or dual classing. It seems like you are multiclassing now.

Multiclassing. Since only humans can dual class.

Is your character ready?

Yes.

Great, feel free to jump in.

This group can still use two more characters... I know everyone secretly wants to fire up some 2e... THAC0 was amazing.

After noodling around with my old manuals..I think I'll go full nostalgia and make an elf fighter/mage/thief....just going through the Al quadim kits to figure out what goes with what

You can make a 1/2 elf fighter/mage/thief. If you want to be a full elf you can make a fighter/mage a fighter/thief or a mage/thief/

Hmm, PHB says both elves and half-elf can take that combo, but if that's your ruling, I'll abide....like the dude :)

Dark Archive

Hi there! =)

Are you still needing a character?

Since the best things to do are to hurt and to heal, and since I think someone said that half-orcs are allowed, I'd like to submit a half-orc Fighter/Cleric.

(Apologies but most of my 2E knowledge has been overwritten with Baldur's Gate data. On the plus side this website seems to have preserved much of the original rules.)

5d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 4, 1, 5) = 19 14
5d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 6, 6, 4) = 26 18
5d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 2, 2) = 14 10

5d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 3, 2, 3) = 13 10
5d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 4, 3, 4) = 18 14
5d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 5, 5) = 21 15

1st lvl hp: 1d10 ⇒ 9
1st lvl hp: 1d8 ⇒ 4

starting money: 5d4 ⇒ (2, 4, 2, 4, 2) = 14

SO which kits are you going to be using?

Dark Archive

Initially I was going to avoid kits, as my recollection was that most were either not worth it, or just lame.

But on re-reading them, I have an intriguing idea taking shape.

Gladiator/Prophet.

Born into the fighting cages, as befits a half-breed from an un-willing union, he fought his way up the ranks, slowly gaining respect, until one night, at the height of his popularity, he was enraptured by a vision, and shouted it aloud.

Unnerved by his behavior, but unwilling to let so profitable an item go, he was held, until the event was repeated several times, with the foreseen events always coming to pass.

As the cages of the other combatants became untenable, he was given his freedom, just to be rid of the tongue-talker, so business could return to normal.

Unused to the outside world, he journeys now following the direction that his visions point him to, wondering if he will find death...or salvation.

Dark Archive

*whew*

Okay, with that out, now for the questions on details.

It says that multiclass fighters don't get weapon specializations, but it says that the Gladiator gets a free one. I've thought of a way where we could still fold the main benefit into the pie without stepping on any toes.

I take the Specialization in Cestus.
Which will actually decrease my damage from just swinging around with a footman's flail. (Mostly. I'm not one for dwelling too deeply, but stepping down from a d6+1 to a d4 has to count for something.)

Also, the image of this big, hulking brute walking peaceably amidst the swinging swords, flying arrows, and gnashing polearms and just fricking PUNCHING people to death tickles me a might. =)

Yeah, um, I suggest you choose one of the Zakharan kits, they are all really good and really puts your character into the setting.
