civilian guards (not Mamluk) lounging around and may talk to
them if they wish.
You can try to gather information about the caravan and such
Chipluck grabs a few stones and tries to get the civilian guards attention and win their favor by juggling..."Ahoy there, ever see a Muluk Triad?" before attempting his signature street move, where upon three stones are tossed upon his forehead in a neat stack...

A gull wheels above Nabila's head and she turns to gaze at it a moment as it's cries echo. She moves to the edge of the deck to watch the cargo being loaded and thinks about her own words regarding the teleportation magic recently used on her and her new companions. She finds herself relieved she isn't on one of the triangle-masted dhows. "I haven't traveled over water before..." she says to no one in particular.

guards on board. You figure out your work assignments with you sergeant and you go below decks for chow and you can tell that the food is amazing.
What part of the deck do you plan on keeping watch?

Chip smacks down the food eagerly, licking his dirty fingers clean. "So if I'm a guard, where's my weapon, my armor? You offering me some equipment?" After all, he had nothing more than a few rusty old daggers he typically concealed from would be donators.

The cook shrugs and says, "I just cut vegetables and slice meat. I do not know anything about fighting. I guess you should speak the armorer and see what you are best at using."
After the meal, Chip speaks to the armorer and tries to get some advice about possible hostiles they might encounter, and which weapon he should choose. If they don't have a specific recommendation will just take another dagger. At the same, Chip inquires about possibly trading the free weapon for a free armor, pointing out his stinky loincloth and bare-chest.
Fine doing that 'offscreen' or not at all and starting the adventure, dont want to hold stuff up was really just chitchatting earlier.

To answer both of your questions, let's say you can have a set of 3 darts. They do not have bows but arrows, you could probably get ten arrows that give you that extra damage. On used arrows we can do the standard lost arrow roll but then you can reset an arrowhead on another shaft when not in combat.

Chip looks through the selection of weapons with a discerning eye. He had kept his current arms always on him, his only 2 real possessions for more than 3 decades. They were quite rusty from the sweat of his body. He wanted an easy to conceal blade that was simple in make, one that none could ever guess came from the Grand Caliph's arsenal. He had to keep his street game from erroding, after all.
