A Push of the Fates.... Zakhara... You Jewel!

The Free City of Muluk takes it name from the long, unbroken line ofrulers whose history predates the Enlightened Throne in Huzuz It isknown for its exquisite regal purple dyes produced from local indigo plants.Muluk lies along the shore of the Great Sea at the mouth of the River Al-Zalim. Like most of the Free Cities, Muluk is a fiercely independent martialstate, engaged in unrelenting, low-grade conflict with the savage hill tribes ofthe nearby Furrowed Mountains, the ravaging pirates from the Corsair Isles, and the hostile armies of Umara and Qadib, both neighboring Free Cities

Trust me, we are all a little bit rusty, so feel free and roll 5d6 drop lowest two and see what happens. Al Qadim was always a favorite of mine. I drifted towards it after playing QFG2 back in the day.

Hi all,

This is Issam, Llaelian's cleric character. I went with the proposed link to Fadilah's familly, being a second cousin of her father. I believe my character is ready.

Last roll for HP
level 4 HP: 1d8 ⇒ 6

We should be able to get you in the mix within a day or so.

Anyone else what to try and join?

I've never tried Al-Qadim before...

Perhaps as a reflection of my new-ness to the setting, I could stat up a bard from a far-away land, who's come to Zakhara in search of inspiration for new works?

Stats: 5d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 2, 6) = 18 13
Stats: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 3, 4) = 15 11
Stats: 5d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 5, 2, 6) = 22 17
Stats: 5d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 1, 6, 6) = 22 18
Stats: 5d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 2, 2, 5) = 13 9
Stats: 5d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 5, 1, 1) = 15 13

...well, at least I've got the stats for it! :D

qadib is a good place for that. Konigheim is not that far away.

I don't know much about either of those places. I was envisioning her being from somewhere like Baldur's Gate, but if either of those places would be more appropriate, I'll be happy to do some research on them.

Mechanically, she'd be a foreign-born sa'luk.

And why the heck not? :D

5d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 6, 6) = 22 = 16
5d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 5, 5, 1) = 19 = 16
5d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 3, 4, 3) = 16 = 11
5d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 1, 5, 3) = 20 = 16
5d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 3, 5, 4) = 17 = 13
5d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 5, 2, 5) = 19 = 15

Looks like a very decent stat spread!

3rd level it is - time to dust off my books.

I will be back with a build later today - any tips on a character creation tool? Or should I just go old school on it? :D

New characters here are starting at 3rd level, right? What wealth do we start with?

New characters start at the level that their class would be with the XP of 7600. Each class has different xp requirements to level up. A thief could be a higher level than a Shair.

Standard starting gold x level. I guess.

Regarding where your character would be from, I just meant that Qadib is pretty close to the border with Faerun and Konigheim is a two or three day voyage from Qadib. If you want to be from Baldur's Gate, it is ok.

@I do not know any character creator that includes the Al Qadim stuff in it.

So my character is a 4th-level Bard (Sa'luk).

Wealth: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8 x 10 = 80 x 4 = 320 GP.

Alrighty--lemme get to work on her!

So, this is what I have been able to carve out so far :D

Non Weapon Proficiencies
??

--------------------------------

I am digging through and trying to remember the Proficiencies system - so funny to see druid as a 'specialization' of Priest :D

I believe I start with 4 nonweapon, then add 1 at level 3 - is this correct?

Also, did we have stuff like Concentration in AD&D 2nd ed? (I may be confusing with 3.0 :P)

On a side note - what is the group's composition? I may be better off just creating a more straightforward Fighter/Mage, or just Fighter (Wait. We did have multiclass in AD&D 2nd ed, right? And dual class... Oh my... :P)

Based on that, I suppose I should level up as well.

Ok, I took a second look at the group, and it seems like two things are missing - a divine inspired character, but much worse than that... A dwarf! :D

So I was thinking about an outlandish dwarven fighter/cleric. Since I see you guys are using kits, I would like to use the Champion kit from the Complete Book of Dwarves. Would that be a nice match, or too much disruption in the group?

I think this link pretty much has the gist of it.

You do not have to be an Outlander to be a dwarf. You can easily be a dwarf from Zakhara and use the Champion kit. There are a lot of cool deities in Zakhara.

Zakharan Pantheon

Issam feel free to jump in after my next post.

I like it GMEDWIN! I was planning on going with a nomad desert rider vibe, so I am hesitant between Haku - god of freedom, and Vataqatal - god of war. Any thoughts or preferences?

Also if I go with Fighter/Cleric, what levels would I have? Would that be 2/2?

Yes it would be 2/2 unless you had one class and dropped it for another. Haku is good or Vataqatal is cool too or Najm works. Each god has its own weapon of choice.

I overlooked Najm, it is pretty sweet. But I would like to carry around a scimitar for the coolness factor I think :D

Not sure if archer clerics are a thing in AD&D2e?

GMEDWIN help me out here - weapon of choice is just a weapon you are allowed to use right (perhaps in addition to other weapon proficiencies)? There are no extra benefits associated to it I think?

GMEDWIN wrote:

Thanks, I will get in later today.

For a cleric, that means that weapon is an exception to the not shedding blood rules. As a GM I would allow it to be a weapon your cleric would have proficiency in.

Ok, so how does Aggrammar look?

Aggrammar:

Aggrammar, from the House of Asad (Children of the Lion)
Dwarf Con +1, Cha –1
Fighter/Cleric (Champion of Hajama) 2/2

16 16 16 15 13 11

INT 13
WIS 16
CHA 16-1 = 15

Paralyzation, Poison, or Death Magic 10
Rod, Staff, or Wand 14
Petrification or Polymorph* 13
Breath Weapon** 16
Spell 15

THAC0 19

Bonus Spells 1st, 1st, 2nd, 2nd

Hit points
9+5+2+2 = 18

Weapon Proficiencies = 4
Scimitar weapon specialist 2

Nonweapon Proficiencies = 4
Healing 2
Reading/Writing 1
Riding, Land based 1

Bonus Nonweapon Proficiencies: Endurance, Intimidation, Religion.

------------------------------

Not really sure what to do with the remaining weapon proficiencies - what would be an appropriate ranged weapon? A sling? Or javelin? Bolas?

javelin is good, maybe a sling. Those sound good.

Are you guys almost ready to jump in?

Does that mean Aggrammar gets a spot? :D

Sure, just give me some backstory and we can come up with a way to get you involved.

Some tidbits about Aggrammar's past:

Aggrammar is an adopted son of the House of Asad, having been found amnesic, wandering through the desert.
Once the desert riders from the House of Asad came across the lonely and delirious one, he still balled his fists in defiance.
Nabil bin Najib was impressed by the bravery of the one of diminutive stature, and ordered Aggrammar captured and brought to his father.

The dwarf evidenced multiple marks of violence and all were surprised he was still alive - both the Sheikh Najib bin Kamal al-Asad and his wife Alia al-Jamal umm Nabil allowed their son to keep the foreign one among their midst. Yet no resources would be spent in his treatment, except food and water. Still Aggrammar survived.

After his delirium was fought back, it took a while for the ferocious dwarf to understand he was not among enemies - it did not take too many beatings though, and soo he accepted the good intentions of those who had saved him, as well as he was forced to accept the fact he did not remember his past up until that point.

If there is one thing which can be said about this dwarf, is that he is a pragmatic one - practicality and survival kept him going with the tribe for the initial few months, even though he was forced to fend for himself with only minor guidance, both against the harshness of desert and the prejudice of some of those around him. He took it in stride, and endured - there were also others which showed him the meaning of kindness, and extended a helping hand in particularly harsh moments, when he thought he would balk under the harshness of the desert.

Two years later, as Aggrammar rides toward the port city of Qadib, no one questions his place as part of Azeer Amal's caravan escorts, on one of the merchant's yearly trips to the enclave - in search of good deals for acquiring the city's well known, fiery yellow-orange pigment called Uther. The dwarf's skin is tanned and parched, his clothes light around him, but protective. He rides easily as any other of the Lions, and looks no less ferocious than them, a scabbarded scimitar on belt, and the unmistakable holy circle of Hajama dangling from a cord around his neck.

(I left the two years timeline lapse - I have ideas in my head about what may have happened inbetween, but I guess they can be developed as we go?)

The sight of Qadib in the distance brings a smile to his lips, and cheers to the voices of the other riders - they acknowledge Aggrammar as one of them now, after many shared hardships, but they also understand his need for unveiling more of his own past. So they are happy for this first step in his journey to uncover what was before he joined the Lions.

(So Aggrammar is looking to learn about his past - know your past, and prepare for your future - the wise words echoed by his friend Nabil had lent strength and legitimacy to his quest when he left the tribe follwing the barest shreads of clues he had been able to piece over the years. Fleeting memories, months old tracks and clues had led him to this place. I do not want to put anything in stone, because I do not know where the game will take us, and this way we can fill out his quest for his past as the game progresses. Bottom line: he is arriving at Qadib now :D Let me know if more details are needed GMEDWIN)

Need to do a bit more work. Been trying to fix my sleep schedule in the meantime.

I'll see if I can complete her sheet.

@Agrammar,

We can have you jump in right now meeting incidentally with Zairiah at Jimar's Dye Emporium maybe a contact that you have in the city for your "adopted" clan.

@Dragoncat, finish your char up and we can get them involved in the game.

Regarding spells: as a Bard, how many may I know as a new 4th-level character?

2 and 1

Alrighty. Thanks. :)

HP Rolls: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 6, 1) = 14
Station Roll?: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Agrammar, you can jump in with Zairiah at Jimar's dye emporium.

Dragoncat is here, with his character Nymeria Vail ready for your perusal!

Thx! That works perfectly for me ;)

Deal!

Nymeria, I like what you have. Would you have a meeting with the Sultan or would you be travelling incognito?

GMEDWIN wrote:

Not sure I have enough station in life for a proper meeting. I figured that even though Nymeria is noble-born, the only reason that would mean anything would be the fact that she's willing to spend a lot of money in Zakhara's bazaars.

So, to answer your question, she'd be going incognito.

Cool, I think you can stumble into Nura at the waterfront.

Shall I introduce myself in the Discussion thread, then?

sure

Hi, everyone my name is GMEdwin and I want to recruit 2-3 new players for my AD&D 2e AL Qadim game.

Starting XP is 12,100 which depending upon which kind of character you want to run could land you 3/3, 4. or 5th level.

Currently, we have a Shair, Corsair and a Merchant Rogue. The party could use a Cleric and any any other things that could fit. Currently, they are exploring an abandoned city of the Caliph's ancestor.

So if you are interested, feel free to roll a character up. Stats are generated by 5d6 drop the two lowest. I would be open to one character from outside of Zakhara. Those Outlanders could be from the regular realms, Maztica or even Kara Tur.

So if you are interested please, come on by!
