Round 2
Initiative
Jzero - JOKER! Act when you want, +2 to all Trait and damage rolls
Tsuto - KD
Velrek - JS
Ceri - 8S
Evesk - 7D
Jzero, since you can't reach Tsuto yet, I'm going to assume that you don't want to act before him.
Tsuto attacks Velrek with his sword :
Fighting & Wild,+2UnarmedDefender: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 = 5 Spending a Benny...
Fighting & Wild,+2UnarmedDefender: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 91d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 = 9, Hit
Doing
Damage: 2d8 ⇒ (7, 7) = 14 = 1 Wound
Tsuto's sword slices across Velrek's chest, drawing blood.
Everyone else is up!
Velrek and Evesk, don't forget you can try to Soak your Wounds before you act by spending a Benny if you wish...

Jzero Katzu |

Could Jzero make a ranged attack against Tsuto, throwing past those in the way? If so, he would do that before Tsuto's attack.
Shuriken: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Wild: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Modifier: +2 Joker
Result: 3 + 2 = 5
Since drawing a joker grants a benny, I'll spend a benny to reroll that.
Shuriken: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Wild: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Wild, Ace: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Modifier: +2 Joker
Result: 6 + 1 + 2 = 9
Shuriken Damage: 1d8 + 1d4 ⇒ (3) + (1) = 4
Modifier: +2 Joker
Result: 4 + 2 = 6
Raise Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Raise Damage, wild: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Raise Damage = 11

GM_ZenFox42 |

Jzero's shuriken flies past Velrek and hits Tsuto squarely in the upper chest.
He takes 2 Wounds. That lowers his attack on Velrek by 2, but a 7 is still a hit, so Velrek still takes a Wound.
BTW, I double-checked the rules, and couldn't find anything about a Joker granting a Benny. Can you cite a book and page number for that? Thanks!

Velrek Savage PF |

I don't have a copy of the book here at work but a Joker does give all players a Benny. Speaking of which. I shall spend one to attempt a soak... Also, I considered a push but it's the same roll as the grapple and I was hoping to just confine him and end this quickly. :)
Vigor: 1d6 ⇒ 4
wild: 1d6 ⇒ 2

GM_ZenFox42 |

My PF for SW book says under "The Countdown" on page 122 "Characters (or groups) with a Joker act whenever they want in the round, even interrupting another’s action. They also add +2 to all Trait and damage rolls this round!" And that's it. No mention of getting Bennies. I can't find a version number in my PDF, but it's copyrighted 2021.
FWIW, my SWADE Core Rules (copyright 2020) and my *very* old (2011!) SWD Core Rules don't mention getting Bennies on a Joker either in that section.

Velrek Savage PF |

Everyone. The down side is.. if the GM pulls a joker, they also get a bennie. :) I seem to remember it wasn't openly apparent, like a mention in the Benie rules...I'll try to look it up later. I haven't logged into PEG in a while and probably don't remember my password so...

Jzero Katzu |

On page 89 of SWADE it says: "JOKER’S WILD: Anytime the villains draw a Joker, put one Benny in their general pool and give another to each enemy Wild Card."
So I guess it is only if a villain gets the joker, not any character, although I think PWGM gave out bennies whenever any PC or NPC got a joker.
See This Post for example.

Evesk |

OCC: I will try to get a post up later today but I do have a question in the discussion thread that does kind of affect the current situation with Evesk.

Jzero Katzu |

Jzero says to the two engaged with Tsuto, "Back off and force him to come out of the room to fight us."

Evesk |

OCC: Okay so Evesk gains 1 Benny, then spends 1 Benny to immediately remove the Shaken Condition. Then gets attacked and gets Shaken. Then he gets pulled back out of Combat by Velrek (in order to maintain continuity and prevent a retcon).
Spirit vs Shaken: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Spirit Wild: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Spirit Ace: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Evesk is hit by the back-blast of his own attack not knowing that was even possible but quickly recovers. He is then slightly rattled by the enemies attack and then Velrek pulls him back out of the combat whereupon he quickly recovers once more.

Round 3
Initiative
Velrek - AH
Ceri - JD
Evesk - 9H
Jzero - 9D
Tsuto - 6D
Everyone can act when they want!
P.S. - I forgot Tsuto's 2 Wounds in his above roll, but it didn't make any difference anyway...

Velrek Savage PF |

Velrek takes a swipe at Tsuto as he backpedals maybe ten feet to get out of the way.
2H sword: 1d8 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 - 1 = 7
wild: 1d6 ⇒ 1
damage: 1d10 + 1d10 ⇒ (10) + (8) = 18
damage xplode: 1d10 ⇒ 2

Jzero Katzu |

Jzero looks in the room to see if the innkeeper is among the dead or injured. If she is not there, he starts looking in other doors in the same area. He will be cautious enough to suspect Tsuto may have boobie-trapped areas he does not want people to enter.
Notice: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Wild: 1d6 ⇒ 1
This will be interesting.

Evesk |

Evesk steps over the downed Tsuto humanoid (What race are they) and goes and checks to make sure that each Goblin is definitely dead as well as to see what else the room might contain.
OCC: Hopefully the missing character is not within this room and Evesk has accidentally killed them. I did not even think about that being a possibility.

GM_ZenFox42 |

Jzero and Velrek eventually find Ameiko an a room a few doors down the hall. The other room you hadn't checked before the fight is empty.
She is conscious but Incapacitated and in no shape to help you. She seems very distraught at her brother’s treachery.
She tells her story : "Tsuto revealed to me that he and several other mercenaries were led by someone named Nualia and hinted that she’s got big plans for Sandpoint’s future. Tsuto warned me that I didn’t want to be in town when those plans came through and offered me a chance to join his group at Thistletop. I was shocked at the suggestion and slapped him. He responded by unleashing his goblins on me. I'm grateful for your rescue but I'm eager to leave and warn my father."
Evesk steps over Tsuto's dead body (he's a Tian, basically Asian) and checks the goblins, who are all very dead. Other than a desk and a chair, there's nothing in the room.
What do you all do?

Jzero Katzu |

Jzero places a gentle hand on Ameiko's shoulder and says in Minkaian, "Zan'nendesu ga, anata no chichioya wa nakunarimashita. Chūzō-sho de goburin ni korosa reta nodesu. Kare no shinikata wa shōgeki-tekinanode, jibun no me de tashikametainara kakugo s#~@e kudasai."
I used Google Translate for this. When the English is translated into Japanese, it gives both the Kanji characters which look similar to Chinese characters but also the words using the English alphabet, which I assume is the phonetic sound of the words. However, when you place that version in a translator from Japanese to English, the result is very strange. Apparently parsing the phonetic is not easy for Google Translate. The character version translates well.
The next to the last word is sh ite (I put a space in to disable the profanity replacement program that kicked in to the translation), which means nothing obscene in Japanese.

Evesk |

"Well thank you Lady Ameiko for that information but I am sorry to inform you that your father was killed, what do you want us to do with your relatives bodies." After that he looks at the other three and then says, "We should finish searching this place in case it contains any more Goblins or worse, however we should also get Lady Ameiko to safety."

Jzero Katzu |

"There were concerned people outside earlier. Perhaps they can escort her to a healer and her own bed."

Jzero Katzu |

We should also close and lock the foundry and notify the sheriff of the crimes committed by Tsuto and the goblins and Ameiko's intel about why the goblin attacks occurred. He can decide how much of this to make known, although with the townfolk gathered around the factory and all, they will probably assume something happened in there, especially if Ameiko comes out worse for wear.
After a day's rest, we can then see if we can track down this Nualia as well as see what Tsuto has at this location called Thistletop, which sounds like it might be where he and his goblin horde gather.
If Nualia has plans for more attacks, we need to do what we can to learn those plans and perhaps foil them.

GM_ZenFox42 |

Everyone agrees that Ameiko should be taken to safety.
One vote for clearing the factory looking for more goblins.
Two votes for informing the townsfolk and Sheriff.
As you begin to leave the cellar, Ceri walks up and says "Hey, look at all this stuff I found on Tsuto!"
A potion of minor protection
2 potions of minor healing
Thieves’ tools
Silver earrings (12 gp each)
A journal
6 pouches of gold dust worth 50 gp each
8 pouches of silver dust worth 5 gp each
10 pp
(I'm justifying this because as a player I'd never forget to loot the bodies if no one else did...)
You all walk back the way you came in, and as you leave the building, among the crowd (which has grown smaller over time) you see a Dwarf standing there, patiently waiting. He walks over to you and...
Wait for it...

Evesk |

OCC: ...suddenly explodes! ...launches into song and dance. ...falls dead. ...lets out a loud belch and smiles. ;-)
Evesk does not like the idea of leaving potential Goblins still roaming the factory or the idea that they do not necessarily know how they gained access to the place. For there was more places they had not checked out and simply locking up the building would not stop Goblins from using this place as a place to launch more attacks or from the potential whatever was to come next from using it to sneak into Sandpoint.

Crastor Deems |

Crastor moves to talk to the group as they exit the cellar. He is a young looking dwarf with a dark beard in light armor with a warhammer and knife on his belt. He carries a pack on his back with a shield strapped to it.
As he approaches the group he quickly says, "Good day, if you have a moment, I was sent by Shalelu Andosana to find Ameiko Kaijitsu. I was told that she was here and that you had gone in to find her. Shalelu has discovered that there is a cave beneath Sandpoint with an ancient evil creature that has been waiting centuries to get out. I am not sure how, but Shalelu seems to think that the creature might be released in the very near future. This creature poses a threat to everyone in Sandpoint, and must be dealt with immediately. Shalelu told me about a way to get to this cave through a winding path found within the basement of this factory. If you are willing to aid in stopping it, I would be willing to help you find this winding path to find and stop this creature if you are also willing to go and take care of this threat. I doubt this is something I could hope to handle alone."

Evesk |

OCC: Loot is not necessarily part of Finding the Path nor the Way. It is simply a benefit found along the Path that was Found and followed. Besides, the dead non-Goblin was a family member of Lady Ameiko and as such his possession belong to her first. However, I am assuming that got sorted out in the basement when Evesk pointed that out to the others and to Ameiko.
Evesk too is curious of what might be in the journal.
-------{ Fast Forward }-------
Looking at the Dwarf Evesk asks, "And who might you be, and how do you know your claim to have been sent by Shalelu to be legitimate?

Crastor Deems |

"I am Crastor Deems. I am new to Sandpoint, which is probably why we have not met, but I recently came and opened a small business as a locksmith and repair shop. I am trying to get my business up and running and have had a few business transactions with Shalelu. If you are looking for some token from her, she did not provide it. But she was quite insistent that the danger was real and that I needed to get word to Ameiko." Crastor says matter of factly.

Evesk |

"Well Crastor Deems, I ask that you believe me then when I say that you have gotten word to Ameiko," he makes a slight gesture towards Ceri presuming that this Crastor will infer that Ceri is Ameiko just in case they are here to do harm to Ameiko. "Still I am most interested in this information you bring about more dangers that perhaps lie beneath this building behind us but we will need to verify your claims with Shalelu for as you said, you are knew in Sandpoint and that makes you an unknown and we have already discovered that long time residents were involved in the recent Goblin raid and more. So I hope you will understand are trepidation at simply taking you on your honor."

Velrek Savage PF |

"Greetings Crastor. I am Velrek. Another set of hand and skills are always welcome. With what we've found in there and what you've told us, we face a bigger threat than expected. We should get word to the authorities and try to stop it. But first, maybe some healing."
To push his last point Velrek bleeds a little on the street.

Ceri Featherwing |

After reading the journal, Ceri says "The journal confirms Crastor's story, if not the source of it."
She turns to Ameiko and says "We found a potion of healing among your brother's things - may Velrek use it?"

Crastor Deems |

"Anyone worth their salt in business checks before they go into business with someone new. Shalelu said that she traveled with one that matched your description. She said that the two of you had an adventure together and a bunch of goblins were called to action when a horn called to them. She is off hunting more goblins as we speak. And for what it is worth, I was told to find her, not whoever that other woman is." Crastor says as he points over towards Ameiko instead of the other woman.
He then looks over at Velrek and says, "A pleasure to meet you as well. I would say getting patched up before going to face an ancient evil seems quite prudent. That is not something my skills can assist you with though."

Evesk |

OCC: "one that matched your description" whose description there are 5 of us standing there and you did not indicate exactly whom you were talking to?
Further are you indicating that Crastor knows what Ameiko looks like as that was not the impression I got from you initial dialogue?

Crastor Deems |

You are correct, I could have been more clear. But how I see the scene playing out, I think it was clear I meant Evesk's description. At that point in the narrative, as I see the scene playing out, the only person to talk to me was Evesk and so we were having a conversation where I was responding to your questions. When I starting responding to someone else I threw in their name and said that I turned to look at them to indicate I changed who I was talking to. In my mind's eye, I see us making eye contact and talking and so my body language would have likely cleared up confusion that the text based game allowed to enter here.
As for any indication on if I knew Amieko before hand, I walked up to the group with her in it and said I came looking for Ameiko. I wasn't wandering from random person to random person around the factory asking if anyone knew Amieko, I was just waiting there until I saw her come out and then approached the group. To the best of my knowledge, my character has never had a conversation with Amieko and so she cannot back up my identity, but I do think there is evidence I recognized her on sight based on my conversations with Shalelu or those who told me where she was.
Perspective is a funny thing. Personally, I do not currently see anything that goes against what I have said or done in the game. But Evesk may be super suspicious and not trust Crastor for the foreseeable future. Crastor has his own thoughts on joining an unknown group to go after an ancient evil.

Jzero Katzu |

Jzero is fine with doing a search of the factory to make sure no more goblins reside within, although if there is a secret passage from the underground, more could return the way they came.
"Crastor," Jzero, a burley man, black hair ground around the sides of his already balding head and secured in a ponytail that is tucked into his shirt. He has a bow and quiver, some throwing stars, and no other evident weapons. His features match Amieko's, suggesting a common ancestry with the lands of Minkai or Tien Xia. "I am Jzero. We would welcome another to help deal with these strange events."
Jzero gets out his healing kit and asks if Evesk would allow him to attempt to treat his wounds. This is a healing skill roll, which if successful will remove one wound or 2 with a raise. Crit fail increases the wound level. Jzero's skill die is d4.
Remind us: did we meet Shalelu?
Edit: Never mind. I found the post: Aug 16 in case anyone wants to reread it.
