Male Dwarf

I saw the last part of one way door on the map, but I thought I would try it anyway.

The half elf turns around and points back the other way for people who followed him to let him by so he can scout around the other way as well. He goes down the south hallway until he gets to the next western hallway and follows that to the end to see where that might lead.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Rale nervously awaits news from Bruden. He tries hard to conceal his emotion, still smarting from that rake across the face. He seems a bit shocked as he quiets his mind to achieve greater clarity and to focus on the task at hand. Eager to dispatch this menace and report all that he has seen to Father Prasst.

male Human(Taldan) Fighter 3 Barbarian 1, hp 32/32, Hero Points 2, Init +2; Perception +6 Defense 12, flat-footed 10. . (+2 Dex) Armor DR: 7/magic or Large. (+7 armor), Critical Defense:+9. . (+7 DR, +2 Dex)

Tyr waits with Rale and Cobblebarn for Bruden to signal them to move ahead.

I kind of hope the skeletons we fought yesterday are the worst this place has to throw at us. he says softly to the two waiting with him.

I hope you're right, but my guess is that whatever person or entity created those skeletons is the worst this place has to offer. If we're lucky, they're long gone by now.

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Yeah, me too.

There is another door down the second western hallway. It appears to be unlocked and untrapped. The moaning/wailing is still coming from the southern hallway.

Male Dwarf

He was about to open the western door when the moaning hit his ears again. He couldn't just ignore it. The half elf whipped his head around and looked with concern at his companions. He went past them and down the southern hallway, but cautiously to see if it were a trap.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23

Bruden finds no traps, he comes to yet another door. The moaning is clearly coming from the other side. There's no visible locking mechanism on the door.

male Human(Taldan) Fighter 3 Barbarian 1, hp 32/32, Hero Points 2, Init +2; Perception +6 Defense 12, flat-footed 10. . (+2 Dex) Armor DR: 7/magic or Large. (+7 armor), Critical Defense:+9. . (+7 DR, +2 Dex)

Do you really believe that who ever caused this is already gone Master Cobblebarn?

Male Dwarf

Bruden beckons to the group to get them to come through this door. When they are ready, he will open it.

It's stuck. Strength check please.

Male Dwarf

Strength Check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Bruden puts his shoulder into the door to try to get it open.

Tyr Vigil wrote:

The gnome shrugs. I've seen a lot of bad things in my time to hope for much good luck, but I'm still alive after all these years, so I suppose there's a lot of luck involved with that, huh?

He motions everyone to close in with Bruden.

I'll let you strapping young men figure out how to break this door down, but whatever is on the other side is going to be aware of us when you do. I might be able to give us an advantage for a second or two, though. Remember, this fog is NOT real. Just don't tell that howling thing past the door, ok? Good luck, everyone.

Assuming everyone gathers in to let the big boys knock the door down, I'll cast Silent Image to make it look like a fog cloud right on top of us. Y'all should get a +4 to the WS to disbelieve, I think, since I'm letting you know it's not real. Base DC to disbelieve is 15.

male Human(Taldan) Fighter 3 Barbarian 1, hp 32/32, Hero Points 2, Init +2; Perception +6 Defense 12, flat-footed 10. . (+2 Dex) Armor DR: 7/magic or Large. (+7 armor), Critical Defense:+9. . (+7 DR, +2 Dex)

Tyr takes his place behind Rale's armored form and waits for Bruden to get the door open.

[ooc]so we will no that the fog is not really, but won't it still obstruct our vision, and would it be better to make an illusion of say a bunch of soldiers, or a swarm of bugs or something?[/b]

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Rale moves quickly next to Bruden after getting his equipment ready to help open the door.

AA Strength Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

After shoving against the door, Rale thrusts his hand into his spell pouch to prepare to cast if necessary.

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Wow! weak. Probably void since passage is only 5 feet wide.

"The mournful wailing grows louder with each step toward the door at the end of this musty hallway. There are a host of bones strewn on the floor here, many of which are cracked and broken."

Sorry forgot that bit. Also, I'm an idiot. The door is stuck AND locked.

Bruden fiddles with the lock for a bit, then gets it open (taking 20). He tries to open the door to find it stuck, so he gives it a good shove. At the same time Malzuket fills the hallway with an illusory mist.

Vision is blocked as obscuring mist unless you make the will save.

The door cracks open a couple inches under Bruden's shove. Enough to admit the crossbow bolt that comes flying out into his face.

Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Will save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

It misses him. The sound of a crossbow being reloaded can be heard, and the wailing grows only louder and more frantic.

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Will save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Rale grasps the stones in his spell pouch, muttering something to himself transforming them into magical ammunition.

Rale casts Magic Stone.
Rale hurriedly loads his sling in anticipation for the trouble awaiting them on the other side of the door.

Male Dwarf

Will Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Strength Check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
move or standard action for strength check, move action to get to bad guy.
Hey Rale, you didn't forget your +4 for being told it was an illusion did you? I think you passed.

Bruden bangs the door again, flinging it wide open. He follows the sound of the loading crossbow and gets right up in their face with his mace.

Bruden's stout shove pushes it open wider, but still not enough to get through. He can now tell there's a bunch of stuff piled against the other side of the door, barricading it. One more good shove ought to do it. Another bolt is fired out at him.

Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Will save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

male Human(Taldan) Fighter 3 Barbarian 1, hp 32/32, Hero Points 2, Init +2; Perception +6 Defense 12, flat-footed 10. . (+2 Dex) Armor DR: 7/magic or Large. (+7 armor), Critical Defense:+9. . (+7 DR, +2 Dex)

will save 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Rale did you add +4 to your save from me telling you it's not real? Also, DM, can I take another action? My feat let's me maintain the illusion as a swift action.

Whoops, didn't see that Bruden posted the same thing, hehe.

Malzuket shouts over the din: Who's there? We are villagers of Kassen, seeking the Everflame, and we mean no harm to other honest folk.

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

I did not add the +4. I believe I made he save if that is the case.
Ready your hammer Tyr, looks like we're going in.

"Tricksy lies!"

"Tricksy lies!" comes the wailing voice from within the room, to the accompaniment of the sound of the crossbow being reloaded.

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Honestly, cease fire, we're here to assist you!
Rale yells following Malzuket's lead, hoping to at least gain insight on the situation.
Diplomacy : 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21

Male Dwarf

Bruden puts another shoulder into the door, irrespective of the voice's wishes. That moaning had to be accounted for.

Str: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

The door swings open to reveal a small room full of supplies, a disheveled man crouched on the floor clutching a crossbow. His wide wild eyes and unkempt brown hair mark him a madman. "No bones!" he states in apparent shock.

male Human(Taldan) Fighter 3 Barbarian 1, hp 32/32, Hero Points 2, Init +2; Perception +6 Defense 12, flat-footed 10. . (+2 Dex) Armor DR: 7/magic or Large. (+7 armor), Critical Defense:+9. . (+7 DR, +2 Dex)

No, no bones. Tyr replies. Now We would really appreciate it if you would put down that crossbow.

Tyr holds his pole hammer ready to attack if the man goes to fire the crossbow again.

He fumbles it on the the ground, and begins backing away. "Rasping grasping bones, they came! Lies, lies, are you a lie?"

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Where is your waterskin? I will fill it with fresh water for you. We also have food. Are you hungry? Rale asks sincerely giving him time to answer. What is your name? I am Rale.

"I have foods!" he says pointing to some supplies in the room. "I am Roldare. You're really real Kassen?"

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Cautiously, Rale inquires, Where are you from Roldare? Rale is hoping that he can buy the party some time to gain their bearings, survey the room and hopefully gain some more insight about the crypt.

"Kassen..." He creeps cautiously foreward, and pokes Rale in the knee. His eyes go wide when the finger hits a real object. "Can you help Dimira? Can you find her?"

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Of course we will help you. Can you tell us anything about this place? It is not in the state that we expected it to be in.

male Human(Taldan) Fighter 3 Barbarian 1, hp 32/32, Hero Points 2, Init +2; Perception +6 Defense 12, flat-footed 10. . (+2 Dex) Armor DR: 7/magic or Large. (+7 armor), Critical Defense:+9. . (+7 DR, +2 Dex)

Tyr steps back to be less threatening and let's Rale handle the conversation with the crazy man.

"Since you are no trick of the dead one...ok. The angry bones came, and slashing and rending. Blood, blood, blood there was and screamings. Dimira, dear sister, gone, GONE! The dead one who speaks took her away."

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

This "dead one who speaks", what does he or she look like?

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

What does Dimira look like?

Malzuket looks to the others: Who knows how long Roldare has been cooped up here? Perhaps we should escort him back to the entrance and give him some supplies to return to Kassen. He could deliver news of what happened here to the mayor. Of course, we might want to write down a note ourselves so the townsfolk believe him. He seems a bit...distressed at the moment.

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

I don't believe he would make it to town in his present state. Rale responds, disheartened to Malzuket.
Roldare, what equipment do you have that could help us find Dimira?
Do have any healing potions, extra armor or a cudgel perhaps?

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Sense motive: 1d20 ⇒ 15 To see if Roldare is being honest with us

I posted already, but I guess the board ate it. Sorry.

"The dead one is bones in ancient mail. Dimiria is a beautiful girl, she's my sister. I'm not going! If you go to find Dimira you can have this stuff, and my crossbow." He says pointing to the things in the room.

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Rale searches the room looking specifically for healing potions or scrolls.
or anything else that may be useful.

Jelani, does Rale sense that anything is remiss about Roldare's story?

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

After completing a thorough search of the room Rale asks Roldare, Which way did your sister go?
After hearing Roldare's response Rale poses a question to the group, Gentlemen, a consensus?

There are a number of bedrolls here, a pair of bullseye lanterns with 4 flasks of oil, 5 days’ worth of rations, and two potions of cure light wounds that are labeled as “healing.” The crossbow he offered you is clearly masterwork.

"The talking dead one took her! You need the keys and the shields. You also need to swim. I can't remember...." He just trails off in the middle of his sentence, staring off into space.

No, sounds plausible. He seems too insane to be intentionally lying.

male Human(Taldan) Fighter 3 Barbarian 1, hp 32/32, Hero Points 2, Init +2; Perception +6 Defense 12, flat-footed 10. . (+2 Dex) Armor DR: 7/magic or Large. (+7 armor), Critical Defense:+9. . (+7 DR, +2 Dex)

The Lanterns, oil, and Crossbow maybe useful. That Crossbow is better than mine. Tyr says motioning at the one slung across his back. we should leave the rations and bedrolls. No need for those and we don't want to weigh ourselves down too much.

The angle is such that the grappling hook idea won't work. Ability damage heals like Malzuket said.

male Human(Taldan) Fighter 3 Barbarian 1, hp 32/32, Hero Points 2, Init +2; Perception +6 Defense 12, flat-footed 10. . (+2 Dex) Armor DR: 7/magic or Large. (+7 armor), Critical Defense:+9. . (+7 DR, +2 Dex)

well the mood seems to be let it be for now and see where the stairs go. I can go along with that. there is a damsel in distress we need to go save.

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Is this the part where we get TPK?

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Anyone have a torch?

I ran a group of three characters through this in real life and they did fine. I doubt this will be a TPK.

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

I'm not complaining. I enjoy the challenges so far. I just need to gain more confidence in my decision-making abilities. I think on pbp, some communication can get confusing. Before, I thought you were telling me to make the KNOW REL check, when you were just telling us that we (our PCs) had no way of knowing what it was.
I am a little concerned about running out of healing resources so early in the day though.

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

I am kind of kicking myself from backing down from the shadow. The odds were tough, but not impossible.

I think part of that was my fault, since I kept saying: "I'll just wait for Rale to see if he can identify it," not realizing that you didn't have any ranks in Knowledge (Relgion). ;-)

As for the shadow--it sucks to have to run away, but I think it was pretty clearly the right decision at this point. We're not really equipped to fight that thing right now.

You would have died. Other group also ran away. I think it's more of a "lets get that on the way out" type encounter.

I'm updated. Don't forget everyone, when you level up you get a hero point.

Yeah, so if you spent yours then you should have one. If not you have two and you can cheat death! Yay!

male Human(Taldan) Fighter 3 Barbarian 1, hp 32/32, Hero Points 2, Init +2; Perception +6 Defense 12, flat-footed 10. . (+2 Dex) Armor DR: 7/magic or Large. (+7 armor), Critical Defense:+9. . (+7 DR, +2 Dex)

I think I leveled up properly. not really sure about the hit points half the hit dice 5 +1 +1 for constitution is what I understood. Are the new hit points added automaticly or do we have to heal them? took the power attack feat. I Took 2 skill levels in acrobatics, 1 in climb, and 1 in swim.

If you're at full health they are added automatically. If not, you can add the new HP.

For example, if you were at 3/8 and gained five HP from leveling you'd now be at 8/13.

Guys, we need to up posing rates. I'm in a real life situation where I need to reduce my number of PBP games drastically. You are almost done with the module. I want to give you guys a chance to finish it instead of cancelling this game prematurely, but that means I need one post every 24 hours for each player to get this moving at a good speed. If I don't see posting rates up to 1/day by sunday I'm gonna go ahead and close the game down.

Even if you feel like you don't have something to do in character that day, a one sentence OOC saying "checking in, waiting on X to happen." will work.

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Checking in, waiting on decision to move forward
to next room.

Cool beans. Next room is up.

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Do I still have magic stone available? I can't remember if we rested since I used it last.

Can you go back and look? That's something you should be keeping track of. I believe the last rest was after the golem fight. If you have trouble remembering, put an * next to spells after you cast them on your character sheet. Then when you rest delete all the *s.

Male Dwarf

Bruden should be up to snuff. Ready to go when the others are.

male Human(Taldan) Fighter 3 Barbarian 1, hp 32/32, Hero Points 2, Init +2; Perception +6 Defense 12, flat-footed 10. . (+2 Dex) Armor DR: 7/magic or Large. (+7 armor), Critical Defense:+9. . (+7 DR, +2 Dex)

Okay Tyr is updated. I think everything is right.

Sorry, but I won't be able to update until probably sometime tonight :-(

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

About to be clobbered with storms.

Yeah, no time for level 3 updates either tonight. :-(

It's cool, take your time. Two levels can take a while on a spellcaster.

Ok, so I didn't update my avatar yet, but here's what I get:

+1 BAB

+10 HP

+1 to all saves

10 skill points

+1 CHA

+2 first level spells per day

3 (+1 bonus) 2nd level spells per day

Ray of enfeeblement (bloodline spell, counts with mage’s tattoo)

Gain one 0th level spell (Guidance)

Gain one 1st level spell (Grease)

Gain one 2nd level spell (Create Pit)

Gain one feat (improved initiative)

I feel like Tellah in FF2 when he remembers all of his spells ;-)

Oh, and apparently all this time I didn't have guidance (whoops), so I took that as my "new 0th level spell learned"

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Ready to go! I have used up magic stone until the next rest.

Alright, I've got Chinese lesson and then work. But I'll try to get this updated tonight.

Profile updated. I actually took Tenebrous Spell instead of Improved Initiative. After looking at my sheet I remembered that was what I was planning, and I already have a good init bonus.

So, when we go to take this guy down, a note to consider--I get benefits from both my Umbral Bloodline and Tenebrous Spell if I cast from areas of darkness or dim light. So we should put the light spell on Tyr's weapon or armor or something so that I can hang back a little bit from the front line and have more potent spells.

Everybody ready?

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Ready!

male Human(Taldan) Fighter 3 Barbarian 1, hp 32/32, Hero Points 2, Init +2; Perception +6 Defense 12, flat-footed 10. . (+2 Dex) Armor DR: 7/magic or Large. (+7 armor), Critical Defense:+9. . (+7 DR, +2 Dex)

so the pit that Malzuket made is a hole with a slope around it to make creatures fall in. I can't get to the edge of the pit with out falling in myself. Is this right?

If you end your turn in one of the sloped squares you make a reflex save versus his DC, with a +2 bonus to your save. If you fail, you fall in. You can move through it no problem, it's just ending your turn there.

Male Dwarf

Thanks Jelani, that was fun. This was the first Module I have finished on the boards as well. It was a good time and I just want to thank you for finishing this. So many of these things don't keep going, but I think all of us are in for some congratulations.

Congrats everybody, and thanks Jelani for running this! If you get some more time freed up later and want to run the second module in this, just send me a PM--I'm down.

Male Aasimar Cleric 4

Good game. Thanks for the invite.

Liberty's Edge

male Fighter lvl 1

Thanks for including me in the game it was fun.

Glad you guys enjoyed it. Might see you around the boards on the other side of the DM's screen as a fellow player at some point, we'll see.
