Tyr’s father was a Taldan Crusader who spent several years in Mendev fighting the demons coming out of the World-wound. It was during this time in Mendev when he met and married Tyr’s mother a Kellid refugee. When Tyr was born the small family moved from Mendev, to Vigil in Lastwall. Tyr’s mother and father felt that Vigil would be a safer place to raise their son than the demon haunted borders of the World wound. Tyr’s spent the first twelve years of his life in Vigil.
Tyr arrived in Kassen five years ago. His parents arranged for him to be apprenticed to Edard Renet the owner of the largest smithy in Kassen, who is the brother of a friend. Edard Renet, a large man in his late forties, is the owner of Renet’s Steel a large smithy located near the Kassen town square. He runs the smithy with the help of his to adult sons Matrim and Rob, both Journeyman level smiths. Tyr’s apprenticeship has gone well and he shows some talent for the work. Master Renet likes the boy and is thinking about arranging for him to marry his teenage daughter when he completes his apprenticeship in two years. The problem is that Tyr is too unsettled. Tyr thirsts for adventure. He can hardly wait for his apprenticeship to end so he can leave Kassen and see the world. Master Renet has tried several different tactic intended to cure Tyr of his lust for adventure including turning him over to Gregor Wisslo the captain of the Towns guard. It was hoped that Captain Wisslo’s harsh training and rigid discipline would cure him of his desire for adventure. So far it hasn’t worked. Captain Wisslo’s training methods sometimes drive Tyr crazy but his is determined to become a skilled fighter. Master smith Renet and Captain Wisslo as a last ditch effort to cure Tyr’s lust for adventure arranged for Tyr to go on the trip to light the lantern. They hope that once he gets an actual taste of adventure he will be less eager to seek it out in the future.

His bastard sword he forged himself a year and a half ago. Renet’s steel does most of the blacksmith work for the town guard and the wood-cutters guild because Edard Renet charges less for his work than Braggar Ironhame does. Braggar is the better smith but he charges more for his work and his prickly personality causes many people to prefer dealing with the more amiable Renet. Tyr’s sword was intended to be a great sword for one of the Guards but Tyr made the blade to short by mistake. He did a good job on the blade so in stead of scrapping it Master Renet gave it to Tyr and had his son Rob help him finish it.
Tyr is young and while he is rash and impulsive he isn’t stupid. He can read a little, write his name, and do the math necessary to work in the smithy. Tyr is an average looking young man with brown hair and blue eyes. He is dressed for the journey to the shrine in leather breeches, a linen shirt, and sturdy boots. He wears studded leather armor over his cloths. His bastard sword, pack, shield and crossbow are slung across his back. He carries his Lucerne Hammer in his hands and uses it like a walking stick. The hammer and crossbow belong to his master the blacksmith who would like to see his apprentice come back in one piece.
Tyr is a likable young man but can be shy around people his own age. Pretty girls make him awkward and tongue-tied. He is much more comfortable at work in the forge than in large crowds.
