Tyr Vigil |

4/11 hp
Combat manuver role -4 prone +4 CMB 1d20 ⇒ 19
Tyr grabs his pole hammer and attempts to knock the second sheild out of the statues hand.

DM Jelani |

Initiative 19
Malzuket tries to his best to disarm the remaining shield, but even drawing on his deepest reserves he's just too short.
Inititiative 12
Tyr stands up and with an angry growl, kicks the shield from the statue's grasp.
Pole hammer is reach, so that won't work. He already used his AOO, so you standing and attempting the disarm maneuver unarmed gives you the same roll (-4 non proficient, +4 CMB), which is still good enough.
As the second shield clatters to the ground, the statue slows and freezes in place, apparently deactivated.
End Combat.
Not at home so I'll have to give XP later.

Bruden |

If I remember correctly, as long as you can hit any square of a large creature, you can attack that creature. Since the other side of the golem is still 10' away, he should be able to attack adjacent to it. But I could be wrong. Of course, he could also take a 5' step. Awesome combat fellas, we totally didn't die. It's just me at -9. Thanks for the bump to the healing die earlier DM, without it I would totally be dead.
Bruden lies on the ground, his chest slightly caved in from the enormous smash by the golem. He coughs and sputters a bit of blood, completely unaware of what is going on beside him.

Tyr Vigil |

what happened to the healing potions we had? I don't know how normal this is for a dungeon crawl but we seem to be getting our butts kicked on a regular basis. I have been near death twice now.

DM Jelani |

My friend and I were talking about it and we both agreed that the statue is the hardest encounter in the module. Because if you don't get the trick quick, that sucker hits hard.
200 XP each for the golem. Went back and re-added all the XP to make sure I didn't miss anything, and everyone should be at 1400 XP. Level 2 is 1300 XP. So that put you over. Everyone can level up.
Level 1 is tough gigs to begin with. The first fight was harder than intended by the wounds/vigor issue. It shouldn't be too bad from here on out.
So you have a door to the north, a door to the south and a door to the west in the first room you came in, by the entrance. You could also rest. Where to?

Rale Darkvayne |

I also vote for resting and healing. How much food do we have?
Rale realizes that there is still work to be done to get the courageous Bruden back on his feet, so he continues to heal him via divine magic.
Rale casts Rebuke Death twice more on Bruden.
1d4 ⇒ 1
1d4 ⇒ 3
Rale hurdles the party together.to release a burst of divine healing.
1d6 ⇒ 3

Malzuket Cobblebarn |

I have some wandermeal and regular rations and I know one of you guys got some rations in town. The best weapon we have is if Rale memorizes Create Water. That should help a lot. I think I gain another cantrip this level, so I'll have to check it out. DM Jelani, how do you do Hp rolls at a new level? If you mentioned this in the campaign tab I apologize, but I'm on my phone so it's hard to check stuff like that now.

DM Jelani |

Half hit dice+1+con for HP past level one.
You were each given five days worth at the beginning. Then you found five more in Roldare's room. Minus the three days you've been out already means everyone has two days worth left, and then five that aren't assigned to anyone in particular. Create water will not help with your food situation, however it will keep you from dying of thirst.

Rale Darkvayne |

Thank you for kind words Master Cobblebarn. Your sage advice has kept us out of even more sticky situations. I'm always touting tactics, but I hadn't a clue about how to handle some of the things we have seen. To state the obvious, I believe that something is seriously wrong here. We need to administer one of those potions to Bruden, to heal him up.

Tyr Vigil |

7/11 Hp
Thank you master Cobblebarn, and thank you Master Darkvayne for saving my life, again. I think we could all use a rest, and I hate to bring it up but didn't Roldare say something about his sister being taken?
Tyr picks up one of the sheilds that the statue attacked them with.
Could these be the sheilds Roldare was talking about?

DM Jelani |

No, you heal 2 HP naturally. Your max is just higher now. You'll still need to use magic to heal up the rest of the way.
So the group heads back to Roldare's room and rests for eight hours.
Everyone please finish leveling up your PCs ASAP, and get all your spells back. You heal 1 point of ability damage and 2 HP from the resting as well. Then let me now which door you're doing next.

Sorry DM. What I meant was that if we healed back to maximum, then we would start off at the new maximum, correct? Example : 9/9 now equals 15/15.

Bruden |

Bruden stays quiet through the whole of the night, contemplating things. He did not expect this to be as hard as it had been. He felt angry at himself for being complacent. He had come into this place thinking that he had it all under control, and now he knew that he was woefully unprepared for true heroism.
He slipped out of the room early before anyone else awoke, heading back outside the way they came. He grabbed some of his equipment and found a few game trails and did some minor hunting and trapping to make sure they could make it back. He still did not feel right. That shadow had stolen his greatest asset in his mind. He no longer was strong. What did that mean? Could he still help?
Well, he still had his skills. He knew a few ways around normal boundaries, and he still was nimble, just not what he had before. Hopefully he could make something of this yet. Use it as a learning experience and come out even stronger. In fact, he already felt better than he did yesterday. It was quite possible that this effect was temporary, and he would be back to himself in no time. He came back in after he finished his business outside and waited for the group to collect themselves after their rest.

Rale Darkvayne |

Rale has vivid dreams this night. He sees, even recalls feeling the warmth of a blinding light encapsulated in a soft remind voice. One of confidence. One of reassurance. The Dawnflower expresses delight in young Rale's opportunity to showcase the powers of his deity. Admiration is showered upon his steadfastness. Upon awakening, he will be rewarded with more divine blessings. His sore muscles are soothed. He is encouraged to continue to heal and support his friends; the valiant half-elf who seldom spoke, the brave and enthusiastic young warrior and the wise and charismatic gnome. He was encouraged to prepare spells of light, guidance, water creation and stabilization. He was encouraged to prepare spells granting magic properties to his comrades weapons, his magical stones, sanctuary and an extra healing spell. Deep in meditation, it felt as though he could leave his body, and vivid recollect his most recent memories. They needed to shields and two keys of which they were only short one key. There was a door on the opposite side of the platform in the room with the Goldman. Was that where they should proceed? These images slowly burned off like the morning fog and Rale slowly emerged from his trance. Readying his gear and donning his armor, he ate a small breakfast. Certainly smaller than the meal they had prepared before the rest. He began to survey the moods of the others to ascertain their inclinations towards how and where to proceed. Tyr was right however, anytime not searching for Roldare's sister could at least be counted as hours off of her life. That is if they were not to late already.

Bruden |

After watching to see if everyone is all ready, Bruden will lead them out. Not really wanting to go south of the golem, or really go past him or near him ever again, he decides to go north out of that room. He checks for traps and listens at the door before disarming/opening the door and pushing through.
Traps: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Disable Device (if needed): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

DM Jelani |

The door is unlocked and untrapped. Bruden opens it to reveal a long corridor that is flanked by a row of human statues, set into alcoves on each side. The statues look like Kassen, and each one holds a longsword out in front of it. The blades of roughly half the statues are wrapped in leather padding. (The northern half).

DM Jelani |

Bruden creeps forward, examining all the surfaces as he does so, wary of traps.
You can take 10 for a 21. Much easier that way, and you'll never roll a 2.
He gets most of the way down the hall before noticing that one of the tiles is a pressure plate, between the third pair of statues. Crouching down, he warns everyone to step back out of the hallway and takes out his tools, ready to disarm the trap.
Disable device 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27 Success! Trap is disarmed.
The mechanism is similar to ones he's seen before, and he has no trouble wedging it open.

Tyr Vigil |

Tyr kept the large sheild taken from the statue. He slept that night but now well. He dreamed of being back in the practice yard behind the Watch Headquarters with Captain Wisslo yelling at him as he struggled through the drills. Despite the stressful dreams Tyr woke feeling better than he had the day before. He felt more confidence in himself he had come close to death twice now and knew he would still leap into battle beside his friends with out hesitation. He felt good to know that he was at least no coward.
Tyr follows Bruden with the others when they set off again. When they come to the hallway lined with statues he approaches the nearest one and examines it closely while Bruden searches the hall for traps.
are the swords real swords? anything intresting about the statues perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

DM Jelani |

Tyr - These shields function as tower shields; they are poorly designed and weigh 60 pounds each. Anyone wielding one is considered flat-footed in addition to the –2 penalty on attack rolls suffered by all characters wielding a tower shield. Up to you whether you want to keep it or not.
Bruden has to spend a few minutes fiddling with the well made lock to get it unlocked. He steps back, and Rale opens the wooden door to reveal a medium sized chamber. In the center of this room is a large pool of clear water, fed by a fountain on the wall above it. The fountain has a stone statue of a weeping maiden holding the slain body of Kassen, but his head has been broken off and is nowhere to be seen. A voice booms out from the darkness, saying, “Magic is the key.” The voice slowly fades, leaving a dreadful silence.

Bruden |

Bruden will step in and look around, making any particular note of the pool and how deep it was. He remembered something about swimming somewhere, and for that he was at least slightly prepared, if only he wasn't feeling so weak. It would surely make swimming more difficult, but he was determined to carry on regardless. As for magic, that wasn't his department.
If there isn't anything interesting, he will put away his spear and move to the adjacent door and check for traps there before unlocking it.

Malzuket Cobblebarn |

Magic, huh? I wonder how literal that voice is--'magic is the key', 'the key is magic'. I think I can help here.
Malzuket cautiously approaches the edge of the water and peers into the bottom with his arcane senses.
Cast Detect Magic. If I find that exactly one of the keys is magical, I will then use Mage Hand to slide away all of the nearby mundane keys so that the magic key is isolated.

Rale Darkvayne |

Rale draws his scimitar and moves next to Malzuket should he need protection from what may be lurking in the pool. Rale has stored the big wooden shield on his back thinking it more of an ornamental item needed for some later feat than for protection. He stands readied next to Malzuket.

Tyr Vigil |

Tyr is lugging the other shield with him. Roldare said they would need both of the shields and two keys and as strange as things have been his is not going to disregard the council even though it is from a madman. When they arrive in the room with the pool he drops the sheild so he can be ready to fight if they need too. He will pick it up again when the move forward on.

DM Jelani |

Exactly one of the keys is magical, however as Malzuket sends his spectral hand down to do its work, he finds it doesn't have the range required. It comes up a few feet short of the bottom of the pool.
Pool is about 40' deep. Sending down someone to find it who can't detect magic themselves would be very difficult, since all the keys look the same.
