Priorities?
1)find Chesenardos?
2)find secure location to set up camp /base of operations (could take awhile to find optimal location)
3)consrtructing shelter after location is chosen
4) food/herding
5)tents shelter
Just my first take on this. Thoughts??
And thanks for the spreadsheet! I shudder to think about all these logistics without that
Skalla Kel Tath |
I think finding a secure spot for the base of operations should be the first priority, and from there we can scout the forest and other locations.
Saélihn |
We're not likely to find a great base spot all that quickly, though it should remain among the top priorities. I think finding the Chesenardos would add aid, help with food, tents, and shelter all at once, so overall primary goal.

Hey folks, regretfully I have to withdraw from the game.
I'm starting a new job soon, which means that my free time will be severely restricted, so I'm downsizing my number of active games. It's been an absolute pleasure playing with you all, and GM Red is doing a fantastic job running the campaign so far.
Take care, everyone!

A pity, but on the other hand CONGRATS on your new job!

Congrats on your job, I am happy for you Skalla! :D
It is a pity you have to leave though.
Maybe Skalla can remain as a refugee in the camp. Maybe in the future things change and you can join again the game. Who knows.
And, I agree, GM Red is doing an exceptional job here!

Congratulations on the job! Thank you for your compliment.
It's too bad. I enjoyed your roleplaying, and Skalla as a character, but I know all too well how life can affect gaming. So best of luck.
If no one objects, I'd like to find another player to fill in a 5th character. We'll have to figure out how they'll join up with the party and all that, but I do have someone in mind who might be interested.

Is it one of The Red Arm's players?
GM Red |
Is it one of The Red Arm's players?
Yes, it was someone from the old group we used to play in (Mr. Peppers) -
But it looks like he is only interested in PF2e now, so he won't be joining us.
Does anyone else have someone in mind that might want to join, before I post in Recruitment?

Maybe, i'll give them a PM.
Edit: PM sent, now to wait and see.

I know another player from the boards who expressed interest.
Solid roleplayer, we recently finished here a Rise of the Runelords campaign all from start to end.

Hey. Lizzie said you need someone.
Glad to fill in if needed... but let's wait and see if Gronilda's possibility pans out first. I have plenty of games, and if someone else is interested, I don't want to take their spot.
In the meantime, tell me... what kind of character do you need, and if I came on, what level would I be, and what method should I use for creation? Same as the recruitment thread, or were there any changes along the way? (You're only 7 pages in, so maybe none?)
GM Red |
Hi Zanbabe. Thanks for your interest. Once Gronilda lets us know if the other player would like to join, we'll figure out if we'll still need that extra player.
In any case, the character joining would be level 2, and can use the same creation rules in the Recruitment Thread. There weren't any changes along the way. I think the rest of the team can chime in with what kind of character is needed from a party balance etc standpoint.
Grymwold |
From a party balance standpoint, we are now lacking arcane. My preference would be a full arcane caster or a partial/caster support arcane (bard, skald)

The other player was tempted but decided to not add another game in the end.
But I have GMed Zanbabe in the past and I can also state she is a formidable player! I am glad to have you onboard :D
Feel free to just lay out the character you prefer, but indeed we lack any type of arcane magic, so that will be a good idea. Also to note, we have two ranged characters and one full melee warrior.

Sounds great. Welcome, Zanbabe!
Here's the story so far, but do feel free to read all of Gameplay if you feel like it:
The heroes are all residents of Phaendar, a small village in Nirmathas. One fateful night, the village was invaded seemingly out of nowhere by hobgoblins, with hundreds of them marching through the village, capturing villagers, ransacking homes, and looting all they could find.
Guided by Aubrin the Green, a retired Chernasardo Ranger and resident of Phaendar, the group made their way through Phaendar, rescuing as many as they could as they fought off the hobgoblins. Eventually, the hobgoblins were too many in number, and the party made for the bridge, defeating a heavily armored guard and destroying the bridge behind them. Aubrin suggested hiding out in the Fangwood Forest, where they are now.
The focus is now on keeping the band of survivors fed, sheltered, and finding a more permanent hideout. But the forest is vast, the dangers are many, and the villagers' morale is low.
Hope this helps. The Player's Guide is also an invaluable resource that will also outline campaign traits if you'd like to choose one.
Zanbabe |
Awesome. I have read through the player's guide and am thinking an Aasimar Sorcerer, but with Scion of Humanity so she fits in as a human... still debating bloodline (verdant? rakshasha?). Have to get some sleep right now, but hopefully will have time to put together a more solid plan tomorrow.

For us much I have read about the AP the forest plays strong through the adventure, so a bloodline tied to the forests, fey or weather might pay off well on regards to opportunities to bond to the events going on.
Though a character with a grudge to the hobgoblins will have plenty of room too I guess :)
As for joining the party, a good entry might be just you are another villager of Phaendar that managed to escape the village by her own footing, or maybe she was outside for whatever reason when the events happened.

Roll for second level HP (big bucks! No whammies!!)
HP: 6 + 1d6 ⇒ 6 + (4) = 10
(Plus Con bonus, so 12. Pretty darn good for a sorcerer.)
GM: Do you allow rolling for a variant aasimar ability?
Zanbabe |
Okay, going with the Serpentine bloodline. I think most decisions are made, I just have to get it all in there. The bloodline specifies that my spells can affect animals, so that seems like a good thing for a forest. I also thought the fangs thing was weird, and wonder if a background where my character isn't sure where that came from would be interesting.
GM Red |
GM: Do you allow rolling for a variant aasimar ability?
Hmm... I might not be familiar with this, where can I read about it?
Zanbabe |
It is here, almost at the end:
https://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/other-races/featured-races/arg-aasimar
It is a 1d100 table of variant abilities. Some GMs allow you to roll, or roll three times and pick, or choose something that matches your character concept... or roll for you, so you don't cheat, etc.
It basically just replaces the spell-like ability once per day that Aasimars get to cast daylight. ... And I like random tables, so I was just wondering. :) Totally your call though.

<--Okay, this is the profile for Zanbabe's character, Zarena.
It isn't done, so no one jump in and tell me I am doing it wrong yet. :)
I know the skills don't add up and neither do the spells and equipment. ... I have done a first pass on skills as I was choosing traits and a drawback, but need to finalize. The other two sections are just what used to be there from the old character I wiped to make this one, but are probably a good start because the old character was a sorcerer too... just level 1 different bloodline. :)
Lots of the basics are in there, and I have an idea for a major conflict in the character's life, so I should be able to finalize tomorrow.
To clarify, for starting equipment should I be looking at wealth by level for level 2?
GM Red |
Looks fun, and I also like random tables if you want to leave it up to the die. You can also choose something that does match your character concept. Please go with level 2 starting wealth.
Zarena |
Variant Ability: 1d100 ⇒ 40
That one is "You gain an additional +2 racial bonus to your Intelligence score." That fits my character, and I will take it if you allow it, but if you think it is overpowered, totally understand.
95 "You gain a +2 racial bonus on Diplomacy checks."
90 +2 Charisma
Some less stats-ish and interesting ones:
69 "Your tears cure disease. You can cast remove disease once per day as a spell-like ability."
56 "You can cast zone of truth once per day as a spell-like ability."
39 "You can mimic the sound of any animal perfectly."
... My character concept is partially based on the symbolic idea of the serpent as a deceiver, but this girl has the blood of angels in her veins as well, so she's internally torn between affinities both for truth and deception. She's really good at convincing people of things, but will she use that for good or evil?
The one I rolled fits the idea of the snake as intelligent, silver-tongued, and deceptive, as do diplomacy and charisma options... although CHA is my main ability, so that is probably more overpowered than INT. Diplomacy is the Class skill my sorcerer bloodline gives me, so might fit better.
The cure one would be more of a balance thing... being able to heal as well as hurt (her fangs are poisoned)
Zone of truth would be interesting, playing off against her drawback, which is basically being really bad at reading others (sense motive)... she can lie well, but she can't tell if others are lying to her, thus some paranoia and not being sure about what is real and whether she can really trust anyone. Zone of truth might help her stay grounded, even just being inside it herself as a cure for self-deception. Do I really believe that? Say it out loud, and see if you do... that sort of thing. I don't know if it makes the drawback meaningless though, so not sure about this one.
And then of course the mimicry is just another form of deception, and likely helpful to the party. :)
Let me know what you think.

The dice land where the dice land, so I would be fine with the +2 Intelligence. :)
I will also let the party give their inputs, if they think one of the more character-specific variants is more appropriate.
Aside from that - for the current encounter - let me know if I've put is in that "Hmm, what do I do now?" sort of state with the wasps. The way I see it is Gronilda could soak the nest pretty handily, avoiding actually entering combat, and I'm okay with that option given her experience as a beekeeper. She may be experienced with bees, but certainly some of that transfers to their evil cousin, the wasp, that frequently (and annoyingly) interrupts a barbecue during late summer. Or a team of heroic adventurers when going apple picking.
Zarena |
I did spells, and am almost done with skills and backstory. I can do equipment while I play... if you think introducing me now would be a good idea so I can use burning hands to help with the insects?
Maybe Zarena and her aunt already lived in the woods a little outside of town, so it was easy for them to get away?
Zarena |
(Sorry for the dot and delete in gameplay by the way... my computer was acting up and didn't even show me the post had gone through until it was too late to remove it.)

Zarena is looking great! And I do not have any issue with the variant pick the dice bot decided. One of the drawbacks of sorcerers are their poor knowledge after all, and this helps a considerably.

Gameplay's updated. Zarena, you're good to go and make your entrance as you please. I wanted to make this fight more fair while at the same time not completely ignoring any rules.
Zarena |
I am assuming that we all know each other to some extent. I lived outside of Phaendar, but was in there often, and you all would have heard of me being attacked by bandits and being left for dead about 10 years ago... so I assume when we see each other there will at least be some familiarity.
Zarena |
(Also, I didn't mention it earlier, but my character should be done now, and I started on a familiar because I get one next level. Need to read up a little more about familiars because I don't think I know all the possibilities involved, but seems pretty cool.)

Looks like posting slowed down over the weekend - which is totally fine - but I did want to let you now that I'm traveling this week, so my updates will mostly happen later on in the day (after 8 PM CT).
Gronilda |
Yep, that round took some days...
Thanks for the heads up GM! :D
Grymwold |
@Gronilda....You should think about equipping the MW Battlaxe,as a Dwarf you're proficient in it
Grym has equipped the MW cold iron scimitar.
The MW+1 to hit is too useful even if he truly prefers his hammer
Gronilda |
Oh, yeah, that is true! I somehow thought it was two handed. Thanks for noting it :)
Yes, Gronilda will make use of the axe, cannot go more iconic than a dwarf with an axe :D
Gronilda |
The Wolf is an enemy Gronilda and Grymwold have to wait for before going isn't it? Not meaning Ghost?
Gronilda |
Zarena...you do realize the wolf we're trying to save is dead center of your fire right? Just checking.
Let's hope it has fire resistance or good Reflex saves xD
Regardless of it being an error or not, it might really be a saver here if the fire brings down most of the mites. It might put the wolf on a fury though.
Zarena |
Okay, so I guess retcon and I just fire another acid splash, which if the mites have resistance as some people were suggesting (but I have no idea), it would be likely zero damage. I don't have time to roll it right now, but we can assume zero damage and move forward, since I messed up.
GM Red |

Don't sweat it Zarena. Also, I don't think the heroes would know they whether they have acid resistance or not (they do not) without the right knowledge check. Saélihn did pass a successful check earlier though, and that's one of the pieces of info she could ask for.
