Vretiel Vaneldra |

"And here I was, hoping for another civil discussion," complains Vretiel. He calmly strolls closer to the fray, drawing a red longbow and speaking at the same time he walks. "But, you know, that was a rather nasty gash there, wasn't it? Wouldn't it be just terrible, awful if this bad luck continued?" His voice takes a very dark tone as he mentions bad luck, a chilling dark omen accompanied by his creepiest smile yet.
"Now, Anastasia, do you recognise our new mangy outsider?" he wonders out loud, still smiling.

Slipping past Vretiel, impressed despite herself at how calm he's remaining during this fight, even as the Schir roars and seeks to disembowel their companions, Iskra hurries over to where Calli is fighting, and waits for the right moment to reach out and touch her back.

In the middle of the melee, Haruf hears Vretiel talking to him. He would howl back that he could tell him all about the demon's taste if it just stood still and stopped dancing around all the time, but gladly he didn't have to break his concentration as the giggler started babbling about meals.

"So...we've looked around down here all we can, right? Ah think there were one or two doors up on the ground floor we didn't check; we should probably head back there once everyone's ready ta go."

Haruf discovers no secret doors in the cell.
The party returns to the main floor and heads back into the kitchen. The kitchen is well stocked with all the accoutrements needed to prepare gourmet meals.
There are two doors to the south. One opens up into a well-stocked larder.
The other door is closed and barred.

Vretiel Vaneldra |

Vretiel follows his companions upstairs, apparently still entertaining the idea of a comeback filled with demon meat. Entering the kitchen further fuels his fantasy. "Oh, marvellous! Qadiran sandworm eggs, leviathan caviar…I almost think that your wizard friend was summoning guests for a grand feast!" he goes on, a certain trill on his voice reflecting his original elven accent. He goes to the stove, attracted by a jar of conserves; container in hand, he raises an eyebrow "When did your friend leave you again? The stove has been clearly used recently…perhaps a faithful and rather fearless servant?"

Iskra raises an eyebrow at Vretiel's comments, for a moment assuming he's being fanciful, but then she steps closer to the stove and holds out a palm and feels the heat still radiating from its surface.
"Perhaps a permanent unseen servant?" she asks the elegant witch, one eyebrow arched in surmise. "From Hunclay's unsavor habits I could easily imagine him preferring to be attended by mindless automatons over potentially disloyal locals."
So saying, she whispers some command words and makes an arcane gesture.

Alex Anders |

Alex watched the puzzlement of this friends with a bit of curiosity, but his thoughts were brought back to the barred door. "possibly that demon, possibly those who tended the manor, but I wonder if this is a way to confuse us, we would have to watch our backs while we deal with the barred door."

Vretiel, cleaning sticky fingers on a dirty cloth laying on the kitchen counter, nods in agreement with Alex "Yes, I very much agree with you, pumpkin. Let us try and get this door open now, shall we?"

"Does anyone here have a way with locked doors?" Iskra casts a hopeful look around the group. "I must admit to be of limited help here."

![]() |

I can handle any locked door, but that one is barred from the other side, Haruf says trying not to gloat to the wizard.
Last time we were here, we were afraid to force the door and break Hunclay's stuff on the other side. Maybe you book readers know a way to look at the other side, he adds hoping the mages have a smart solution to the door problem. He seems to have allowed his curiosity make him forget about the kitchen using entity.

Iskra Kustov |

Seeing that nobody seems ready to tackle the door, Iskra gives a gentle nod and moves to stand before it. She focuses her breathing, places both palms together, and then begins to intone arcane words under her breath, speaking in a monotone.
Her words grow in intensity, and she separates her hands so that they're palms up. Fingers curled as if she's gripping the bar on the far side of the door. Carefully she raises one hand, and then, still whispering, pushes at the barred door.
Casting levitate on the bar and pushing the door open once the bar has been raised. DM, let me know if she can do this without seeing the bar - the spell doesn't specifiy that she needs line of sight, just that it needs to be unattended. If she can't affect the spell, well, please nix this post as she wouldn't have tried to begin with :P

![]() |

The characters do not know what is holding the door shut besides it not being a mechanical lock. You must have a clear line of effect to any target that you cast a spell on or to any space in which you wish to create an effect. The door is blocking that line. Iskra knew that and would not have cast the spell. Good idea though. ;)

Vretiel joins Iskra, a hand on his chin. "Well, before any of our strong men and women start pushing this around, we can try to be polite, no? Hello? Is anyone there? Could you please open the door? Vretiel shrugs "Oh well, can't blame me for trying and –" he looks at Kale in an almost puppy-ish manner "you can't blame me for taking a bit of…poetic license with reality."
He distances himself from the door and continues speaking "Anyhow, I am not really sure of what to do besides…shoving the door," he spins his left hand as if that could somehow represent violently hitting a door. "This is a kitchen and thus I doubt any magical artefact will be on the other side, but I agree it feels rather thuggish. Any other ideas?"

Haruf uses his mini-crowbar and begins to rip the hinge straps off the door. In doing so, large gashes are left in the door and its frame. The hinges straps are then bent back to release them from the door. Haruf then begins to shove the door into the room against the barricade. With some assistance, the party is able to dislodge the armoire that was barring the door.
Twenty minutes later, the party gains entrance to the linen closet. Inside is a simple room with a bed and storage racks for the linens.
