We are early in the AP, yes. We are also fairly early in the book. I have never read, run, or played the AP, but it opens with us trying to find someone, and we haven't found them yet. There have been little to no combats but we've talked to a handful of people.

All that to say I think we are pretty early in book one.

Test of Tar Kuata is 3-7 so now would be a good time to play that. :-)

If anybody would be willing to GM that I could jump in with a Scarab Sages character too!

I've got a level 5 Scarab Sages sorcerer who would love to jump in on that.

Still have not heard from GM Poblano Pepper. If he is coming back soon we are willing to wait but we have had two players bail already. If he will not be back could we get a replacement GM before we lose any more? He was running Shattered Stars in PFS Campaign Mode. We are in book one and it would be nice to at least finish that much of it.

Are you looking for replacement players? What level?

I've played Test of Tar Kuata, Salvation of sages, and Ancients Anguish on other random PCs before, but I think that, at the very least, the last two there are worth burning a GM replay on. If someone runs Tar Kuata, I'll burn a replay on that as well.

Side note: If we all (or many of us) have spellbooks, this could be a great scribe-fest game where we can all scribe from each other's spellbooks at discount rates!

I made a thing.

Not sure how useful this reference document will be to some of you, but I know that when I play a spellbook type caster, I have an innate desire to learn every spell I possibly can. This is a list of how many spells there are at each level and how much gold it takes to scribe them all (based on PFS rules). Hint, after level 1 spells, its cheaper to buy Blessed Books!

Gang,

This is early enough in the AP that I would suggest just disbanding. It's early enough that you don't have to take a chronicle. Declare the game a misfire, and just drop. I would bid the game adieu and just let this one go if you cannot find a replacement GM.

Hmm

I think you've summed up our options. :-p

Either a) Poblano Pepper comes back b) a GM volunteers to pick it up or c) we disband.

We will discuss replacement players if a or b happens, otherwise there's no point.

I would agree with the disband that early into an AP. You are going to have some difficulty in finding a GM willing to do a pick up on one of the books let alone an entire AP. Both are quite a bit of commitment as each book takes 6 months in PbP (give or take).

- INACTIVE - (GM abandoned game)

Right. Either a GM sees these messages and decides to do it or we disband (or Poblano Pepper comes back). We won't press it further than that, but we will wait patiently. If no GM shows up, our patience fizzles out and the problem is solved.

I have just wrapped up a couple of games I was GMing and would happily run something. Also the Gameday is coming up which is an online convention so there will be many games there too.

If you are interested I can run something shorter so that you are freed up for Gameday, or something with pregens like a We Be Goblins or the like.

That would be awesome, I'm up for anything really, hit me up if you do something!

This is helpful, thanks for sharing.

For what it’s worth, I keep my level 6 arcanist's spellbook on a spreadsheet for sharing with other spellbook casters during scenarios, and to make calculating scribing costs and pages used easy. Feel free to adapt the format and formulas for your own use. One note, if you do: the pages used column (far right) does not update if you move a spell into a different row, you have to fix the reference to the row above manually.

Any updates re PbP Gameday VIII?

Looking for an anticipated date for dropping the PFS Special #10-00: The Hao Jin Cataclysm into selected GMs' downloads.

Could we also find out which subtier we'll be running?

Would love to start prepping as soon as possible.

Thanks.

I can say that the event support request for scenarios has been submitted. I suspect that the PTB are a little busy at the moment and likely to prioritize GenCon drops abovePbP Gameday VIII (as they should). My understanding is that they aim for scenario drops to occur approximately 2 weeks before the convention if the submission has been timely.

As to sub-tier, I will leave that to Dennis to respond. I am sure there is a plan in the works.

I do have a subtier plan, though it's always a little flexible based on signups. GMs should expect an email from me soon with a link to the GM thread, where they can find that sort of information.

I know there is official clarification on Race Boons being able to be applied during the 1st Level rebuild but what about others that have to be applied in creation?

Specifically, I have Maestro of Manumission and Eldritch Artillerist that I would like to apply to a level 1 character.

Another question is how does one report Maestro of Manumission to have their character updated in the system?

Thanks!

Hey everyone. So I've been playing/GMing PFS at local game stores a couple years now. Been eyeing the online campaigns with curiosity for awhile. GamedayVIII seems like the perfect excuse to jump in, so I signed up to host a table. Right now my question is what's the best way to create the game space? I thought there was a form that would create the gameplay/discussion/recruitment all at once but can't remember where that was. Or do GMs routinely have to create threads in each subforum then link them all together? Any tips for organizing/creating much appreciated. Thanx!

Hello and welcome to the wild world of PbP GMing! It's always good to see more new faces here in the Online lodges and even better to have new faces willing to give GMing a try!

To create your campaign you'll need to:

(1) Go to the Online Campaigns section of the forums
(2) Go to the Play-by-Post subsection
(3) Click 'Add New Thread' near the top of the page

This will prompt you to create your 'Gameplay' thread - give it a title, make sure you post it under whatever alias you want to use (if you want to use a specific GM alias) and post whatever sort of introduction you want.

***There is (was? not sure if it's been squished yet) a bug where you and everyone else will be unable to add further posts to the Gameplay thread if you delete the very first post that you make when you set it up - so whatever your first post contains, be sure to leave it in place!***

Once you create your thread it'll ask you if you want to create a campaign for the thread - do so and it'll prompt you to create a Discussion thread. Give it a title and post something like 'All OOC discussion goes here!' or whatever suits you, just like you did with the Gameplay thread. This will automatically create a campaign. You'll see all the usual tabs at the top - Campaign Info, Gameplay, Discussion, Recruitment, Players, and Characters. To create a recruitment thread for the campaign just go to the 'Recruitment' tab and click on the prompt to create a thread, title it, etc. And that's it!
______________

Another resource that I'd highly recommend having a peek at is the 'Kit for New PbP GMs' link that you should see at the top of the page. Though I imagine quite a bit of it is old hat seeing as you already have experience playing and GM PFS live, there are some PbP-specific documents and tools in there that might come in handy! And as always, if you have questions please feel free to ask. We've got a great community here and everyone is pretty good about pitching in to help answer questions and offer advice :)

Blessings of the Forest

I would also highly recommend playing at an online table first before running one. While many things are similar between face-to-face (F2F) and play-by-post (PbP) games, there are some significant differences (such as initiative and ID’ing creatures) that are possibly best experienced first from the other side of the GM screen.

Sorry if that was confusing. I mentioned the official clarification for the race boons but I was wondering about other boons that are supposed to be the first chronicle(s) like the examples I mentioned (Archetype unlock and xp).

"Doom Girl" // ♫ // ◇ ◈ ↺ // PbP Events // // PbP GM Kit // Year of Fortune's Fall // DA Duology Maps

Any of those can be applied before you officially play at 2nd level.

For things that are supposed to be the first chronicle sheet, I usually mark them as Chronicle Zero. On one character of mine I have 0-A, 0-B and 0-C chronicle sheets because I have three of those oddball special boon sheets that each offers something weird and different.

Thank you @GM Ladile. I did check out the kit awhile back. I should refresh my memory on what was in there. But thanx for the step-by-step that's exactly what I was looking for.

@GM Hawthwile yeah that would have been ideal but while lurking I've seen many comments suggesting there's a supply and demand imbalance. I mostly just need to get thru some interface growing pains. It's logical there's gonna be more of that behind the screen, but I decided to throw on my big boy panties and just deal w it. I've been quietly spectating a few active threads to get a feel for the expectations.

Confirmation Maps and Handouts

I created a Gameplay thread for the scenario I'm running on Gameday, then deleted the first post figuring I could post a proper introduction once I received scenario support. Now the campaign is glitched out.

I've already made a new one, but is there any way to delete the old campaign so it doesn't clog the "Campaigns" tab of myself and my players? This is the offending campaign.

He doesn't believe in 'game balance'. Gandalf always lets him pass. As a feat, he has Exotic Weapon Proficiency (beard). The city guard often question him, just because they find him so interesting. His dice bag is woven from tarrasque leather. His TPKs end game lines. His blood cures moderate wounds. He once punched a flumph. Yes, you heard me. He belongs to a prestige class whose sole requirement for entry is just being him. ♬ He is indeed, the most interesting GM in the world. ♬

You (as the GM/thread-maker) go to the campaign info tab and click "Edit this Campaign" then in the editing window check the box labelled "This campaign is no longer active" and it is banished to the bottom of everyone's campaign page from whence they can should they choose to "hide" it

That's about it.

However, when you--as the organizing GM--delete your first post in the Gameplay thread all sorts of unfunny hilarity ensues. I haven't done it so I can't say exactly what other than it probably requires Paizo tech support to sort out. You will probably be the only one for whom the campaign shows up, unless other folks posted in the Gameplay thread.

Hope that helps.

TWMIG has the right of it. It's been a known bug/tech issue for some time now and would require the intervention of Paizo's tech support to fix if you had your heart set on keeping the campaign that you'd already set up.

Usually I just copy the scenario blurb from its product description page and use that as my first post when setting up a campaign and then make my actual opening post later, once the game is ready to go.

It's quite alright, making a new campaign was no hassle. My main concern was making sure I could get the disabled campaign out of my player's Campaigns tab. Thank you both for the assistance!

Hello, Online Peoples!

A bit late but general player signups for PbP Gameday VIII are officially open! You may sign up for up to 3 RPG games and/or 2 ACG games - and this includes Specials - at the link >>HERE<<. These limits are to ensure that everyone has a fair chance to find seating for games. Unlimited player signups will open later, on July 22nd.

Have fun and I hope that everyone gets the spots they've been hoping for! :D

@Esowulf I found my season 6 FJC stack! I've linked them here. But you do have to have played and ticked a box during that season in order to be able to use that FJC. It sounds like you did, but I know I've missed a season on a character before.

Does anyone knows what is with game reporting? I have 24 unreported online games(PBP and roll20).

Grand Lodge

Curse of the Crimson Throne | Loot

Neodam,

Are you referring to sessions you ran yourself or to games you played under another GM?

I haven't had any issues lately (including as recently as yesterday) reporting sessions I've run. For games you've played, reach out to the GM and ask him or her to complete or edit the reporting of the session.

Cons are notoriously bad at reporting sessions. I'm still missing a session I GMed at Paizocon. Sometimes, players themselves are to blame, when their handwriting is so bad, no reasonable person can decipher it.

Players should ensure all their handwriting on the reporting form is legible, and GMs should check the sheet before dismissing the players. I do this at the beginning of the session, when everyone's present and most focused on the task.

You can let the con organizers know about the problem, and it might get fixed, but don't lose those Chronicle sheets.

Grand Lodge

He/Him

If you mean OSP games (which aren't reported directly by the GM), I have at least one missing as well. I'm sure it's just a data-entry backlog.

Grand Lodge

I am referring to sessions I have played under another GMs.

In last 30 days I have played 24 OSP games (GMs reported them) but I don't see those games on Paizo page as reported.

I've had a couple of my OSP games just show up in the last day or two. I imagine there may be a backlog for the OSP Venture team to work through.

Yes, there is a backlog for the OSP game reporting; I'm not sure of exactly what size. I can certainly talk to the VOs doing that reporting.

Grand Lodge

24 games in 30 days!

That's... a lot of gaming in your life. ;-)

Silver Crusade

Venture Lieutenant, Play by Post (online)

There is indeed a backlog. I've sent neodam a private message with some details specific to his games. In general, if it seems like it's taking too long for a game to show up, you can check with your GM if they've reported it to the OSP reporting system.

Silver Crusade

Can we update the link at the top of this group from the Outpost II signup to GameDay VIII? It makes it easier than having to look through the posts for the spreadsheet.

Thanks!

Grand Lodge

Male Elf Wizard (You have to ask?)

The OSP reporting system needs to be changed so the VOs do not have to enter each session into Paizo. The GMs need to report the sessions to Paizo and then to Online Region's VOs so those VOs can do the boons.

Lantern Lodge

SFS 05-99 BftB

That is one approach. I kind of like it, but we don't necessarily understand all the reasons the current online system was put into place. There may be some other boon related reporting reasons that it won't work for.

That said, having the event, and then sanctioning GMs to report to it might be one approach. Leave the current portal for casual online GMs, but allow those who use it the most heavily to report directly. Then the games would still be tied to the region, but the workload on the VOs would be reduced.
