Amsheagar |
I thought this moon was suppose to be some sort of jungle... Yet.. i haven't seen any vegetation.
You guys hear some noise. After a few moments, you see a small indentation in the wall, which quickly opens to a fairly sized cavern. Leading inside, you see a hole leading upwards, if there is air outside. and several small enclosures... As if an earth elemental used his burrowing abilities to carve out a safe place to rest for the night. As you enter, you see a bolder, ready to be place in front of the tiny opening. The opening is just wide enough for one person to squeeze in at a time, with the walls thick enough to last for quite some time if beat against. When moving into the room, you see more writing on the floor, this time in the right order. "I Hope that this is a reasonable place to rest."
DM Kludde |
Are any of you standing guard during the night?
Jebediah Heliotrope |
In a hostile dungeon, on a hostile moon? Heck yes, we should keep watches. Regarding the watch roster, Jebediah has a Ring of Sustenance, so he will stay on watch for 6/8 hours.
Amsheagar |
Amsheagar could sleep in elemental form and position himself in a way to look like natural rock where the opening is. Since this is a newly made place, no one should know if it's existence. Also, right now, Amsheagar has Tremorsense
DM Kludde |
Ok, I tried to set something up that might more or less correspond to what you described.

Jebediah and Nalshene are keeping watch while Amsheagar sleeps in the opening. Several hours pass (Let's say two-and-a-half) before a flash and a crackle disturbs the air as two huge demons enter the cave. Opening his eyes, Amsheagar sees several more creatures outside of the cave.
Smoke 'em out, a human says, commanding a troop of demons.
Obeying, the two vulture-like demons each launch a cloud of spores at Amsheagar, from which slowly moss and vines sprout, gathering on the non-rolling stone.

Amsheagar, somewhat surprised that the foe was able to see a new cave, opens his eyes and summons a wall of fire to keep the ones outside from escaping. He then burrows through the wall, collapsing the entrance behind him.

DM Kludde |
Glaurung turns into a great magical beast, only making the tight confines seem even tighter. Amsheagar closes off the entrance to the cave, but not before he fills the outside with fire.
A few more cracks of ozone fill the stale air, and three more demons appear inside.
One of the hulking demons speaks a single word האַלטן, which compels Amsheagar to stop in his tracks, while the one next to him rips into him.

Amsheagar |
Don't worry about Amsheagar. He is quite alive. In his earth Elemental form, his AC is 36. So all the attacks that went to him, only the crit threat was a connection. Since he is a high level druid, using the wild shape as well, he is currently immune to crits and sneak attack as an earth elemental would be. Amsheagar is currently down 22 hp only. Am i un-stunned?
Amsheagar |

Sorry, that form of the dragon caused some major adjustments to Glau's stats and I didn't update everything. Her AC is 34 currently and HP went up to 185/228. So the pincer still confirms for 34 damage - 10 stoneskin - 16 temporary = 8 actual damage.

DM Kludde |
My typical mode of operation is to only allow retcons up to a round back. I appreciate you being busy, but there was a full week of lag between the original stunning and your discovery. I'd rule that last rounds' attack (May 2nd's post) remains unchanged, and that Amsheagar is treated as not stunned for this round. That would make his total damage 152, and his condition not stunned.

This takes Pad to a total of -16 Con, which brings him back because he luckily has a 20 Con score. Wow. That was close. He still gets a temporary negative level, though, so his max HP is gonna be lower.
Isn't one of the side effects of a negative level losing 5hp from both total and current count? I'm not too sure what the standing rulings are (it seems counter-intuitive to do so), but the way I read it the negative level would just wipe Pad out again.
Nalshene tries to breathe life into Pad, using her first aid gloves, then throws another spell at the demon, sickening the demon, while Jebediah tears at it, somehow managing only to hit illusory doubles.

@Kludde: You're right, and that sucks. Could Nalshene change which spell she uses with her Swift action, and instead use her Quicken metamagic rod to cast Quickened false life (instead of the Quickened shadow evocation I listed above) on Pad immediately after she uses the gloves? I would think that could allow him to survive until he can be properly healed.
Amsheagar |
Amsheagar burrows through the wall, living a small cave behind him.
Amsheagar comes out of the wall, seeing his friend on the ground, he lets lets the clouds form above everyone's heads. He looks at the closest demon and calls down one bolt upon it. As he grabs his bag off of the ground and flings it back towards his party.

Nalshene |
@Jeb: Bah, you're right. I'm used to casting it on my companions, so I forget that it's personal only sometimes. :-S I'll just have to use my other breath of life cast on him next round, with the hope that Kludde will rule that he was alive for a split-second this round, then the negative level kicked in to take him back below -20. @Kludde, is that a fair thought?
DM Kludde |
The spell is surprisingly clear on how it happens: Creatures brought back to life through breath of life gain a temporary negative level that lasts for 1 day.. So (1) Nalshene heals (2) Pad comes back to life (3) negative level kicks in (4) Pad dies again.
