Nalshene estimates the recharge time to be seconds, not minutes. In fact, it may be only a matter of second before another blast washes over the group.
Let me know if you want to cast those spells. You spent one round reviving Pad. Do you want to linger casting spells, or do you want to get out of the way?
DM Kludde |
North or east? (Map updated)
Glaurung of Anfauglith |
Glau follows immediately behind Jeb without abandon, trying to avoid the trap again.
DM Kludde |
The corridor makes a u-turn, and splits into three before ending into a tall vertical shaft, which descends before opening up into a wider chamber stretching off to the sides. Dozens of manacles hang from the sides of the cylindrical walls, from which hang as many prisoners. A doorway on the southeastern edge of the room is level with the floor, while a single door on the opposite side stands thirty feet above the ceiling of the wider, horizontal chamber.
Each of the three identical shafts is accessible from area in the northwest by one of the three doorways 10 feet below the ceiling, 60 feet above the floor. The bottom 30 feet of the three shafts are connected by a single horizontal chamber.
Amsheagar |
How wide are the shafts?
DM Kludde |
25 feet, see the map
Amsheagar |
As the others start to leave, Amsheagar will take a few seconds to transform into a more arid form and fly above their heads.
Glaurung of Anfauglith |
Glaurung unfolds her leathery wings and follows Amsheagar, Nalshene, and Narshala, not confident enough in her current weakened state to take the lead.
DM Kludde |
At the opposite end of the shaft, a shimmering wall of colors separates this area from the next.
Amsheagar |
Amsheagar will also look at it.

DM Kludde |
The Acadamae professor and the pyromaniac come to the same conclusion: the wall is a prismatic wall - a powerful piece of warding magic that can only be dispelled under special circumstances.
Pad The Pyro |
The wall requires casting spells to remove it in a particular order. The order is Cone of Cold, Gust of Wind, Disintegrate, Passwall, Magic missile, Daylight and finally Dispel magic. I can cast Cone of Cold, Daylight with a scroll and Dispel Magic but none of the others.
Glaurung of Anfauglith |
'I can produce missiles and dispeling magics,' Glaurung offers. 'Can we burrow around it though? That might be easier.'
DM Kludde |
So, any plans?
Nalshene |
I have the ability to cast phase door whose description is almost EXACTLY the same as passwall. Kludde, would you rule that it replicates the effects well enough that we may be able to use it to dispel the wall?
DM Kludde |
Sounds like a more expensive version of passwall, so I'll allow it
Glaurung of Anfauglith |
"Fine, let's start. I'm sure whatever is down there knows we're coming and probably has a knife to Osprey's throat."
Pad casts Cone of Cold on the wall.
Yes! Let's bring down the wall!
DM Kludde |
With four of the colors of the prismatic wall out of the way, the shimmering wall starts to look less saturated.
I'll assume you also cast Magic Missile, Daylight and Dispel magic
With the last dispel, the magical wall drops, to reveal a balcony.
An arched balcony overlooks this eighty-foot-diameter round room from sixty feet up the northwest wall. Two identical balconies occupy the western and southwestern stretches of the wall; one supports a black-glassed mirror, and the other holds the bound body of an angel, her torn form held together by wires, glowing chains, and lunar thorns. Hundred-foot-long silken tapestries of demonic symbols and obscene acts of self- mutilation and eroticism hang from the ceiling to the floor below. In the room’s center, at a height of forty feet from the ground below, is a platform supporting a large, canopied bed, connected to a square walkway by a narrow catwalk.
Hovering high in the middle of the chamber, a demonic woman is mounted on a Shantak. Her body is the perfect embodiment of desire, a glory that only poets could give words to. Her flesh is seemingly stitched into the dark armor that caresses her supple form.
You have come to the Ring of Ecstasy. So much could be yours, yet you have slain all my servants. You have thwarted me for the last time. I will show you a world of sweet, sweet agony, and I will cherish every scream and every whince of you.

"I agree, Glau. It would have been so much fun. Perhaps there will be relics left after we destroy this demonic filth that we can take back with us?"
Nalshene casts a targeted greater dispel magic on the queen, then a Quickened Tenebrous loathsome veil (Shown on map as green line).
Caster level: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33 NICE! Her three highest level spells are dispelled.
SR check: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22 Not as great, so my loathsome veil might not affect her. Probably will affect her steed though. If affected, they need to make a DC 27 Will save or are affected as if they had 11 fewer hit dice.
Amsheagar |
Seeing his fellow druid try to take some of the demons powers away, Amsheagar does the same and casts Greater Dispel Magic on her.

Nalshene withers down the protection of the Demon Queen, before generating another one of her trademark sickening patterns. The demon queen looks alright, but the Shantak seems to be somewhat less sturdy in the air.
WIll: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24
Jebediah heads for the general, dealing massive trauma to the axe-wielding human.
Pad conjures a grasping phantasmal hand, that tries to swipe the queen from her steed. As it makes contact, however, the force dissipates.
The leather-clad queen raises her blade, and swipes the air at Nalshene in retaliation, even though she is way out of reach. A ray of dark energy shoots forth, hitting Nalshene with unerring precision. Nalshene feels her pulse drop, as is the life is being sucked out of her. Die, you worthless insect.
I need a DC 20 fort save
The general lift his greataxe to swing it at Jebediah, only to have the swing falter on the magical defense of the druid.
