My memory sucks, but I think it was Mark (or maybe Owen?), that said on stream recently that at some point during the Starfinder roll-out, someone got the book early and was leaking information. However, they were only leaking parts and those parts looked terrible without knowing the other details, and there was a huge uproar of some kind.
Anyway, they could have asked him to stop to try to avoid something similar.
Technotrooper |
That was mentioned on Reddit and the guy said he understood and would try to avoid doing anything like that because he wanted to support Paizo. Anyhow, I'm sure they have their reasons but, with the books now arriving in people's hands, they won't be able to contain this kind of information much longer.

The guy's overall opinion on PF2 was:
"A super huge shout-out to Paizo and all its employees. You guys rock. 2E looks fkn awesome. I hope people got hyped from this thread and some pre-orders went down, because these books are pretty damn awesome, and 2E looks great."
No doubt. I'd say the same thing if I got my books 2 weeks early.

Accidents happen, my dude. It probably doesn't actually have much to do with being near Paizo, and instead a mixup with shipping or the game store.
Not a mix up, and quite a lot to do with being near Paizo - they started shipping already, and this guy got lucky and was near the top of the pile, most likely. So it's arrived already, cause it didn't have to travel far.

Yeah, so a shipping mix up then. It's not like Paizo intentionally shipped the book out to everyone right away and was just expecting everyone who ordered it to live at least 14 days away.

Ah. Got it. I thought they had an onsite storefront or something. If they shipped it across the street that's obviously an honest mistake. Who would ship something that close on purpose?

So living near Paizo means the street date doesn't apply to you? I'm confused (and jealous.)
No, it’s randomised, not to do with geography. (There have been plenty of times when people in Washington have posted how frustrated they are to be a few suburbs away from Paizo and to not yet have received their shipping notice).
This happens every month to some degree and is particularly bad in GenCon month each year. They would ideally like to have everyone receive their books on streetdate but, because they have such a huge volume of orders, they physically can’t post them all out in a day or two. As such, someone has to be first and Paizo have the choice - do some people get their books early? Or do some people get their books late?
Paizo opt for the former but randomise it so that some months being nearby is good, sometimes it’s bad. Sometimes ordering lots of extras alongside your subs is good, sometimes it’s bad. Sometimes just having the AP will put you near the front, sometimes you’ll be at the back...

I'm not sure why they asked him to stop. He was doing a pretty good job of creating hype and excitement without giving away too much.
They'd probably prefer to create excitement by selectively releasing information themselves, rather than trust the judgement of a random fan who might take it too far.

Well whatever, I want to talk about some of the stuff. Cat's already out of the bag:
Shield Block as a General Feat This is interesting! One it shows that maybe some Combat centered General Feats that provide actual actions have had the precedent set here (an equipment specific one too). How far they will go with this is interesting, but I would expect Fighter and Champion to get this for free.
Wizard Progression Table Lots of interesting stuff going on here that wasn't in the Playtest. For starters, it looks like it's pretty likely most people will get free General Feats for increased Saves, which is probably necessary and allows "staggered" progression on saves for each Class (so there are notable weaknesses/strengths).
Also seems like new abilities made it into the Wizard and now at Every Odd level they get something else as well as their normal stuff (with the exception of 3rd). Resolve is likely a Will increase. Defensive Robes is likely an Expert -> Master on Unarmed.
Interestingly, they get Weapon Specialization.
Not sure if Weapon Specialization is going to be just a Weapon Proficiency Increase or if it will be in line with the Armor Specialization effects also mentioned (Perhaps Cones/Rays have a "specialization effect" or something that can be chosen).
Also looks like it's confirmed that Class Feats for all at level 1 and then every even, which is very nice.
Interesting notes:
Ancestry and Background are now coupled with an "And". Not sure that means anything, but it was deliberate.
Cantrips scale very well now. Now at level 7th level your standard Cantrips are doing 4dX + Spellcasting Mod. Telekinetic Projectile also got nerfed to 1d6, which given the new scaling, is probably appropriate
The Level 12 Alchemist feats look solid. The Poison one we catch the tail end of from Level 10 also looks pretty solid. Nothing mind blowing, but certainly good.
Proficiency values and Action Markers are defined on the character sheet. Dope. On another note, the Skill list is confirmed and Weapon Specialization has a spot on every weapon (which might mean it's going to be more common than I thought).
Necromancer seems to be a choice for Thesis, though no screenshots provided (only mentioned in comments)
Wealth seems to be a lot lower, probably resetting Gold to be the Gold Standard instead of Platinum.
Sorcerer Bloodlines Aberrant, Angelic, Demonic, Diabolic, Draconic, Elemental, Fey, Hag, Imperial, Undead. I assume Imperial is just going to be "Raw arcane power" but it's nice to see Hag, Elemental, and Undead on the board
Armor Specialization is neat. I would imagine those with Armor Specialization would be restricted to Fighter, Ranger, Champion, and Barbarian with other martial characters down the line (Champion will likely get it first). On another note, Armor properties are looking really cool (you can see Noisy and the tail end of some kind of "silent/acrobatic" incentive one) and relevant early. That will make equipment choices a LOT more impactful to character concepts without having to require Character investment.
That's about it, but maybe someone with keener eyes and more time can break down the images even further.
I didn't see anything I wasn't a fan of, so my HYPEEEE train is leaving the station.

Rogue's favored skill boost can be Dex, Str or Cha. Happy it's based on your racket and not just always Dex. I hope we eventually see rackets for the other 3 stats. Something like a lookout for Wis, informant/intelligence agent for Int and a Con version which I don't have a name for but it seems silly to leave out a singular stat.

Their real estate prices already seem to be through the roof, actually, given some comments from Oblivion Oath.

Just to clarify, necromancer is almost certainly a school choice still, not a thesis. WBL looks almost exactly the same as the playtest (they just added a handy lump sum column for folks who liked that) and Imperial was in the playtest and acted as the equivalent of the PF1 arcane bloodline.
I do like that shield block is a feat or feature now. The playtest mechanics for gaining shield proficiency were hella complicated, It makes sense that any old person can hold it up for cover but you need training to actively soak a hit with it. In the playtest, IIRC, it was the other way around.

I drive 75 miles into work each day (through Seattle traffic) because my wife and I would have to sell everything we own and move into a studio apartment in Redmond to pay the same prices we're paying for a three bedroom house out on the islands. Housing prices here are bonkers.

It's not 12 Bloodlines like I thought it would be with three for each list, instead it looks like it's four divine list bloodlines for some reason and two each for the others.
That does look true. And it's probably because of the PF1 Bloodline list. The 4 Divine Bloodlines were all corebook available in PF1 (and the only corebook Bloodlines not on the PF2 list are Destined and Arcane, which are sorta combined thematically in Imperial), so it's a continuity thing.

I think they made shield blocking free so people could playtest it without having it cost anything and all classes with a shield could try it withput having to build towards it.
I am curious how far they took this aspect of a combat action of an agnostic nature (anyone can use a shield) to General Feats.
Since they have set the precedent that it can be done for Combat Feats (I would expect Shield Block to have been a PF1 Combat Feat if it existed then) inside the General Feat territory, that means they could potentially do this for other aspects.
I've run out of excuses everyone.
Just pre-ordered my core and bestiary. ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL ABOOOOOOOARD

If Hag is Occult, that has some strong implications for witches down the line.
I'd be shocked if it isn't. It's the only new Bloodline (as compared to the PF1 corebook and PF2 playtest) and would round out the numbers at a minimum of two per list.
And yes, it does rather imply Witches as Occult. Which is where I've always thought they belonged anyway.

It seems we have our likely answer then DMW!
On another note:
Does that mean Undead would be divine?
Aberrant->Occult
Angelic, Demonic, Diabolic-> Divine
Draconic, Imperial -> Arcane
Fey -> Primal
The above are unlikely to change so these three:
Undead -> Divine (?)
Elemental -> Has to be Primal
Hag -> Presumed Occult (has to be pretty much)
I feel like Undead could go Arcane, Occult or Divine. The only one I'd be sure it wasn't is Primal

I got mine today as well, about an hour ago. I have not cracked them open much yet, but if you have specific questions I can look up, I will answer as I have time.
