Ginni frowned and bit her lip, concentrating very hard as she glared at her hooves. For a moment they seemed to start flowing into a more elongated shape, and then they stopped and went back as Ginni yelped. "Owowowowowowoooowww! That is a lot easier said than done!"

Mel looked a little concerned, why change? I mean, you are what and who you are. no need to try and be something else, right?

looking to Ace, thanks for the invite, but Arthur and I have....ahhh... things to do...

come on Arttie lets see about getting something to eat and go outside. I haven't had fresh air in like four thousand years.

"Well, what I am is unwelcome in a lot of places. Also, shapeshifting is a natural ability of mine, so technically it's a part of what I am. And I know how to walk on feet. But I don't know how to make them," she said, exasperated as she glared at her hooves.

Tami waved at Mel and Arthur as they left. "Well, you might need to study some books on anatomy. Maybe the problem is that you only know how a foot is shaped on the outside. Give yourself time. You don't have to have everything figured out right now."

"Yes, Healer Zamarosok. Ginni appears to be stable and physically healthy as far as I can tell," Tami said, startled to be asked.

Tami came to the door when Ace knocked. "Hey," she said, opening the door enough that he could see past her. Ginni was up and dressed, but struggling to keep her balance on her hooves, and her wings which were much bigger than they used to be were in perpetual danger of knocking something or someone over as she kept flinging them out to keep from falling over. Ryleh and Vai were also present, and Phaezeriel was still in his cocoon."Professor Ryleh says that Ginni should go to the waiting lounge to eat. I can show you the way, and er, help Ginni balance since you have your hands full already. She hasn't been cleared to leave yet, but there's no reason she has to stay in the isolation room anymore."

"No, that's alright. As soon as I know for sure that Ginni is okay, I should go check on Dom. I've been neglecting him a bit this week. Well, it's kind of mutual. Conversation hasn't been what you'd call fun. Hey, honey, have they managed to find your sister is whatever dimension they misplaced her in yet? No. Well, my best friend is still unconscious and they haven't caught the murderer yet. And then we both sit around feeling like crap. Very romantic," she said with a what-can-you-do shrug.

Tamina shook her head. "No, I'm going to wait here. I want to see for myself that she's okay. Phaezeriel too. He really didn't look so good."

"I think that kind of depends on how things are in there. Last I knew, Ginni was still fighting for her life, Phaezeriel had gotten all freaky and red-eyed and sent me to get Vai, and then I ended up locked out of the room. Since you were unconscious I thought that maybe you found some way to help. Or you just passed out from exhaustion. Either of these are plausible. But I'll feel a lot better when I know for sure if Ginni is okay," she said, biting her lip as she looked at the door for the hundredth time in the last minute, as if willing it to open.

Tami sits in the hallway next to the unconscious Ace and waits anxiously. Having left the iso-room, she couldn't actually get back in now, so there wasn't anything else she could do.

Tamina came running out of the isolation room. She needed to get Vai there fast. Like now, fast. She was trying to come up with a plan when she saw Vai's mom sitting in a chair. She had an IV with her. Well, that couldn't be good. And everyone was staring at a large metal cylinder in the center of the room. Well, that was fine, but her best friend's life was on the line, and she was pretty sure Phaezeriel's might be too.
"Professor Sunwake, I need your help. It's Phaezeriel. He was helping Ginni and something went terribly wrong. He told me to go get Vai. Time is of the essence here. Can you please sent out an announcement or something? I'm not sure there's time enough for me to go looking for her," she pleaded.

The only thought to reach Tamina is a bit of profanity that is cut off mid word as Phaezeriel disappears mid-stride. After about 10 seconds, he reappears a short ways further down the corridor, still walking, with a simple steel case held in his hands. ::Thank you, Tamina, I will help her as much as I can. You may come with me, as long as you do not interrupt.::

Not letting his exasperation show, Professor Nix defies the rules of null-psi fields, catching the collapsing Raelle in a telekinetic field, and settles her back on the treatment bed. The strain of forcing psionics through the damping field shows as he breaks a sheen of perspiration on his forehead as he places a gentle calming effect over the too-raw emotions of Tamina, trying to blunt her hysteria, "Tamina, Ginni is in the best possible hands for the injury she sustained. If there is even the smallest possible chance that she can be helped, Phaezeriel will not rest until she is set right. I reacted poorly to what seemed like interference with my patient. I was not aware that you had medical experience."

"I've been studying pharmacology seriously for two decades," she said, dully, trying to clean the tears off her face. "Although it's been a hobby for much longer. I work in the infirmary on a part time basis. They don't actually have a pharmacist on staff and had been outsourcing to the alchemy department. Which can get...surprising results at times." She sniffled. "I apologize for my unprofessional behavior, Professor. It has been a bad day. I knew that becoming friends with humans would mean having to say goodbye to them too soon, but I didn't expect to lose so many so soon. And not knowing if I'll ever see my best friend again....I probably should not be working right now anyways," she finished miserably.

Followed by tears.

"Tami! What is it? What's wrong?" she said, wobbling a little as she hopped off the exam table to comfort her friend. She knelt on the floor beside Tami and put her arm around her.

"Gi-Ginni...Ginni was murdered this morning. They b-brought her back, but whoever hurt her shattered her mind. Phaezeriel said it could take days before we even know if it's possible to...to.....she may not ever be the same person she was," Tamina wailed, sobbing even harder than before.

Professor Nix, slightly distracted by the idea of mathematical equations describing a rift, does not notice that Tamina intends to treat his patient until it is too late. Lowering his slightly outstretched hand he watches Raelle until he is sure that the 'medicine' would do no harm.

After a few moments, he glares at Tamina, but his voice is still calm and pleasant, "So you are one of the people who work in the infirmary now, yes? You make it a habit of treating other people's patients, yes? I will thank you to clear with the person under whose care a patient is before treating that patient." He holds up a hand to stop her protest before it fully forms, "I do not want to hear all the reasons why you did as you did. I do not care how well you know Raelle or what your undoubtedly prodigious medical skills are. In the future, please check with me before you treat my patient. It is simple courtesy."

Nix's demeanor relaxes and his smile is warm and friendly again, "I am glad that you are here, Tamina. It helps the healing process to have friends nearby. Raelle, I will put in a note excusing you from your classes for the rest of the day. I would like to keep you in the infirmary for a couple of hours for observation, but after that you are free to go. You should rest for the remainder of the day. And you really should rearrange your classes to accommodate the beginning psionics class; it will help you to learn control."

Tamina started to calm herself, put on a pleasant smile, be the perfect princess she'd been trained to be......but it had been a long few days. Too much for anyone to take really, and something in her just cracked.

"You ordered an analgesic and I delivered an analgesic. How exactly did I do anything wrong?" she snapped. "You're the one who jumped to conclusions just because I wasn't wearing a nurse's uniform! You're not a doctor either! You're just here as a consultant. So you know less about the infirmary and how it works than I do. And I don't care if you give me detention for saying so! You're not being reasonable, you're just trying to sound reasonable," she said, her voice starting to waver as the tears that she'd been keeping at bay all this time finally broke loose.

"Gods! My head feels like it's going to explode! What happened?"

Professor Nix smiles as he places a calming hand on Raelle's shoulder, his voice newly familiar to her, "Easy, now. You are in the infirmary. You pushed your power too hard and passed out from the effort. You are safe, and your psychic ability will not work here for now. Somehow the power you used got locked on and was preventing you from recovering. If you give it time, the headache will pass. If you promise not to leave, I will have something brought to ease the pain."
"Yeah, sure no problem," she quickly agreed. "Not like I'd get far. I can't keep my eyes open, my head hurts so bad. Apparenlty mapping the mathematical equations of a rift between universes has side effects. Go figure. And I have no idea how to use or stop using my powers. They just sort of switch on and off by themselves. They only started last week."

"Why am I not surprised that you somehow landed in the center of trouble. Again," she said, equal parts relieved and exasperated.

"It's alright, Professor. I have medicine for her here," she said, pouring a packet of powder into a very small glass of water. "Raelle, you need to drink this. All of it. She squeezes the bag, popping it and crumbling the charcoal, which she pours into the top of the mug.

"My best friend was attacked. Murdered actually. They were able to bring her back to life, but her attacker had messed up her mind. They're trying to heal the damage, but nobody can tell me how long that's going to take. It could be hours, it could be days, it could be weeks. Nobody seems to know. So I'm hanging around waiting and being a general pest trying to find out." Her expression was almost serene and her tone was calm, but she crumbled three cookies to powder while she spoke, unaware of how much of a mess she was making.

"I know what it's like to be bored. Like. Really bad. And I don't want that for anybody. Let's go get something, then. I really honestly don't know what I'm doing here anyways... Oh. I'm Archena, by the way. Just Archena."

She offers a slightly clawed hand, as she had seen people meeting people do at the parties.

She shook Archena's hand, still smiling. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Archena. I'm Tamina Saeaera. My friends call me Tami. Feel free to do likewise."

She led the way to a waiting room that had a few scattered loveseats and a small kitchenette. She seemed to know her way around the kitchenette pretty well and she soon returned with a cup of hot paraffin and a small packet of charcoal. "Here you go. I don't know if you're hungry or not, but I have a firebird friend and I have never once seen her turn down charcoal, so I thought you might like some."

"I just met him like half an hour ago. And most of that he spent asleep while the scary psych lady worked on him. It was cool when he was shooting lasers, but I'm not really sure if I need to watch him sleep. The nurse said I should, but I've been stuck in a room doing nothing for a long time now. I think I'd rather go with you."

She stands and straightens out her khakis.

"Yeah, you don't have to wait here then. Especially for someone you barely know. Come on, we can get some refreshments and talk if you want. Or you can leave and go do other stuff. I'm just bored out of my skull since I'm waiting to hear how my best friend is doing. It's probably going to be a long while before I even get a progress report. So I would love the company. But I won't blame you one bit if you just want to get out of here," she said, smiling.

"That'd be nice. Thanks... uh. Should I come with you or stay here?"

She doesn't seem to be up on social conventions. Definitely a new firebird.

"Up to you....is that your friend in the bed? It looks like he's asleep. He probably won't even notice if you come sit in the waiting room instead. But I can bring your drink to you if you'd prefer to sit with him. What do you want to do?" she asked. She didn't seem to be in any hurry at the moment.

"Is that allowed? That stuff got people at my parent's parties pretty messed up..."

She pulls her arms together, holding them at the elbow under her upper assets.

"Oh!" She looked a bit embarrassed. "You're a firebird! I should have realized. Sorry about that. No, coffee would definitely be a bad idea. It could make you pretty sick," she admitted sheepishly. "Umm.....how about a cup of hot paraffin instead?"

Archena sits heavily in a chair in the room, not entirely sure what to do now that she's here.

An elf passing by paused at the sight of the confused looking girl. She peeked her head into the room, brushing her long, dark hair away from her face.

"Hey, you want some coffee or something?"

Nurse Julie goes to the other staff member talking to Tami.

Addressing them both, Can I be of any assistance?. noticing Mel I see Ms Waverider has moved from fire to ice today.

"Umm...yeah, maybe. My friend here had some kind of really emotionally distressing encounter, and he was in shock. His biology is cold based, so normal treatments won't work...I really don't know what to do to help him."

Tybalt doesn't stop with the soft sobbing sounds.

With a gentle hum of energy, Tybs, Mel, and Tami(if she's on the ice) blink out of the cafeteria in an instant along with the forest of icicles.
When they arrive, Tybs breaks out of his ball he takes and latches on to Mel, sobbing frozen tears into her shoulder.

Tami turns around and looks for a member of the infirmary staff.

"Excuse me. My friend has had a difficult emotional confrontation that left him in shock. He has er...specialized biology. You should have his records on file."

"So, Tybs and Dave had a fight? It looks like he's in shock right now. With a normal person I'd say keep them warm, but in his case...well, he seems to have made his own ice. So I'm not quite sure what to do...do you think you can help him to the infirmary if he's willing to go? I would, but I can't actually touch him when he's like this without getting hurt."

"Tybalt? Can you hear me? We're very worried about you and want to help you. Will you please let us help you?"

Tybalt has not moved from the place where he landed on the floor. His legs out in front of him, one straight, one tented upwards with his tail limp to the side. His weight rests on his hand paws, put and behind him.

The insides of his ears and paw pads that are usually a soft, cool blue and almost white now. His eyes have lost the usual bright, interested look and animated spark and seem slightly dulled. Not the usual deep aqua blue, but instead cold light blue.
He does not move.
He hardly blinks.
He just stares at the place where Dave no longer is with a broken, shattered look on his face. Like everything right in the world was ended violently before him.

Having arrived at the cafeteria after the outburst, Tami heads for the table where she sees Mel sitting. When she gets closer she sees Tybalt lying on the floor, looking like he's in shock.

"What happened?" she asked, concerned. "Tybalt?" She kneels down next to him, examining him, but not touching him for fear of causing pain. "I think maybe we should take him to the infirmary. Normally I'd say to get a blanket, but...maybe an ice pack?"

Tami and Dom arrive at the cafeteria with just a few minutes left before the start of class. Just time enough to grab a quick breakfast if they don't want to be late.

He nodded to show he understood. After he looked into Tami's eyes to show his sincerity. "Thank you my love. You always know what to say. You really are the most remarkable person I have ever met. How did a wretch, like me, ever get lucky enough to have a goddess fall in love with them?" He tells her while pulling her hand to his lips to kiss.

She laughed at that. "I am not nearly capricious enough to be a goddess, melnestae," she said, eyes twinkling with amusement.

She leaned in close and whispered in his ear, "And you won my heart simply by being yourself. Ve tae."

She pulled back enough to look into his eyes. "However, if we don't go and get some breakfast we are likely to collapse from so much...athletic endeavor," she added with a wink.

There was a long pause as Tamina considered her words carefully. "I do not think that it makes you a terrible person. It is a perfectly normal reaction to some very traumatic conditions. At the end, to you, this man embodied everything that filled you with grief and anger through the whole terrible experience. I have some thoughts to share on the subject, but let me ask you first...did it make you feel any better when he died? Did it lessen the grief and rage at all? Or did it just add to it?"
"I don't know. If anything it added because of feeling like a terrible person." He thought to himself for a moment. "Thank you for listening. I don't know what I would do with out you." He reach out to take Tami's hand.

She squeezed his hand back and smiled. "Well, that was the answer that proves you're not a sociopath...I'm glad, because I think it would be very awkward being in love with a sociopath," she said, her tone lighthearted, but her expression sincere.

"One of the duties of the Speaker is to sit in judgement on legal cases. In particular the cases of a severe nature. I've watched countless trials and even had to preside over a few when my mother was otherwise occupied with matters of state. So I've seen more than my fair share of horribleness. And the one thing that never changes is this desire for vengeance. As far as I can tell it's universal. We convince ourselves that the world will be a better place if only this one monster isn't in it. But the pain is still there after they're gone and nothing can change the past. You've experienced this for yourself now. Sometimes it's necessary to sentence a monster to die for the good of all, but in the future you'll remember this feeling and act for justice instead of vengeance. I know this because you are not a terrible person. You are the one I love and I believe that you are capable of great good...but that doesn't mean you never make mistakes. We all do. That's how we learn," she said, gazing into his eyes.
