The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

Mech Bay, Destroyed

The poisoned filled air, along with burning fires from plastics and metals, certainly wasn't making the Mech Bay any less inhospitable, rather, it was starting to build up a nice cloud of chemicals and such that would soon turn toxic and caustic. It was likely that this was being caused by external forces as well.

None of David's taunts appear to carry any weight to them, for the foe most certainly wasn't responding in any noticeable fashion.

...suddenly, the very ground and walls of the Mech Bay rippled, save for where Vare's Circle touched. With those ripples came a voice that carried from all directions.

"Oh-- there's much you can do to send me home, Shifter. Offers to give, lives to offer, various other things. It's a pity you allowed these ...allies, to join our dance, though. I was beginning to enjoy seeing you prance about while we conversed. Ever since I saw my chance for freedom through the object of your desire, being held in the Abyss by that Angel. I sensed your bond, nubile in it's forming. The strength of your intent. I knew you were special in various ways. It will be a pleasure to learn them all. It will be a pleasure to extend the hopelessness you feel until you are consumed by it with nothing to cling too. Oblivion will be the sweetest release, in time, you will come to know it -- intimately."

The voice comes from all directions, yet, isn't booming. There's no way to fixate on the specific location of the source either. It's most likely a form of telepathy, as many of the lower plane sorts possess.

From David's vantage point, which isn't that great given the building smoke and lack of ventilation, the walls as rippling and the sigils that are etched (which are still remaining) appear to be changing their coloration and form. Obviously the power of those sigils will change once that completes.

If the room were alive, it would scream out in anguish at the violation of it's physical structure, and destruction of it's intended purposes.

Jeran probably can spot this effect occurring, he most certainly can 'feel' the rippling ground, but only from a distance, as he is surrounded now by the Circle and his shoulder glows with warmth.

Vare's vision shows nothing 'destroying' until the edge of his Circle's effect, the most simple of ancient spells conferring the intended Protection even unto the physical ground he stands, and while it helps slightly with his inhaling some of the cloud forming, without a form of air, he'll choke soon. Beyond the circle, the fraying of reality and dreams all point to destruction on it's base form, the unraveling of existence. This is clearly a Destruction driven creature. There's no question of it's intent at this point, and Jeran seems to be it's focus.

One of the indicators for another 'occupant' fires off-- as the Angelic visitor and supporter of Jeran materializes from the Ward's reactive nature to protect people within their confines.

Medical staff react, but clearly, lack of personal is noted.

After a few moments of recuperating from the combination of transportation and gut retching violence upon it's system, the Angelic being appears to have collected itself after a quick 'meditation' of sorts.

Then another wave of sickness flows over the Host of Guests, and it staggers again, looking pale and drained.

When the over taxed nurse from the night shift arrives, he looks up drawn and weary, saying only, "Stay back, I fear I may be ...afflicted and wish not to spread." A gesture and protective magics are cast, sealing the being off from evil-- and keeping any such, within as well.

The nurse studies him for a moment before saying, "I ... don't know what to do here. Please lay down, explain what's going on?"

With a forced smile etched with pain, it looks upon the female caregiver and says simply, "No time, I must away." With that, it simply disappears from sight.

Kevin he doesn't pay too much attention too, and he's completely ignoring the room's contents unless it gets very noisy or blinks way too much.

The readings Kevin's got continue to fluctuate. Though, the physical scan of him indicates that he literally remains unchanged, since a mere moments scan prior. He's just not changing on any biological level if left unattended. Could be an indicator of not aging, or something else-- especially if you couple it with the 'inconclusive' energy reading.

The sensors don't indicate it's 'magic' though.

Tryko'Sam continues to explore Rena, while adding nothing else to the situation. The scans don't really provide much else at their current settings. He seems quite content to keep doing this, oblivious to whatever has been said.

"Dave, stop being an idiot and get inside the [expletive deleted] circle!" he bellowed.

He then switched on the radio in his suit.
"Kevin? I really hope you can hear this....Things are not going well here. There's a good chance that....well, I just need you to take care of things for me if I don't make it. Protect the girl. Whatever happens here, we can't let them keep thinking of us as playthings. We keep fighting for better. Promise me that. And...and I'm not sure that the school wards can hold this thing. You need to get to the Headmaster. He'll know who to call on to stop this from turning into a slaughter. Don't hesitate. Speed is of the essence."

At this point he took off his helmet, followed by his suit, and started putting them on Vare. "This will allow you to breathe, professor. You take this, and you start summoning things. Good things. This is a being of destruction so summon things that represent creation. You start and you keep going for as long as you can. Summon an army. We're gonna need it. We can't take it out, but we can slow it down long enough to save the others."

Kevin leans over the speaker, placing a hand on either side of it, just to make sure he heard him right.

"I... You... Don't talk like that... I'm going now. Don't give up. They'll get you out. I don't give a damn what the thing is. We can beat it. Don't give up. You have to live and show me your dumb robot. Just... keep going."

Heartfelt speech aside, Kevin grabs up his ooze and runs to the door.

"I've done all I can. Get him to the infirmary. The can probably help you. I don't know what else to do for him. I have to go."

He runs out of the room, barely able to finish his words, the only thing keeping there to finish the slow speed at which the door slides open. He slips through it as soon as he could fit sideways.

Entering the small decontamination chamber, it starts a cleaning cycle as a normal precaution.

"I don't have time for this!"

He drops the guise of half-elf-ity used to put Tryko'Sam at ease, and pries the door open with the ease a person pries open a book. Once put in the hall, he leans down close to the floor, and focuses intently. A moment passes as all of him shifts and realigns. Everything on him sleeks down, and he becomes almost pointed looking. Then in an instant, he sets off at almost impossible speeds. Despite the school's ability to rearrange itself, the headmaster couldn't really be in a sub basement, but with his new powers, getting there as if it was next door won't be a problem.

160 base speed. Full on sprint. Currently clocking in at 72.7 MPH. Should get him there rather quickly.

When he arrives at the Headmaster's door after blowing past several people also trying to get there in his hurry, he can't be bothered to stop and open in. Instead, he hits it and goes over, around, under, and through it, at first seeming like he would just go through the cracks, but the speed at which he hits it sends it tumbling open and over, knocking a hole in the wall where the knob housed and on of the hinges loose.

"Sir, I'm sorry, I'll fix that, but this is important. There's a thing in the mech bay. The school locked it down, but. It. It's stronger. It's eating through the wards. Like. THE wards. We need help. Vare, David and Jeran are there. Vare can't get it out, and this is his subject. The whole school is in danger. Really, the whole everything.

He runs through that, hardly taking a breath.

Rena moves a little closer to Tryko'Sam, settling into a comfortable side-hug type arrangement (or, at least, as comfortable as the sterile room will allow). She doesn't interrupt any of his 'explorations', unless they get overly touchy and intimate (and if they do, she'll gently directly them elsewhere), though it's unclear if this is because of a newly developed sense of social awareness.

When Kevin goes barreling from the room, Rena briefly glances up and slightly tightens her grip on Tryko'Sam, though relaxes after a moment. Her gaze lingers on the door, with a worried expression plain.

Tryko'Sam's exploration doesn't go too far, considering the situation, but he's clearly enjoying the contact on a purely basic level.

There's a lot of looking towards Rena's face, and then where she's looking.

He still seems quite an instinct driven being at this point, who's calm and cozy, with high levels of enjoying the nearness of another.

Rena might swear she sees shapes or shadows out of the corner of her eyes, in this otherwise stark and tech riddled room, but any quick glance proves it's her imagination firing off.

Just staying put isn't helping or improving things, that's for sure. Tryko'sam's not being helpful in the least either. Friendly, like a puppy, sure, but that's about it.

Well, there wasn't much else he could do now....maybe if he could keep it talking.

"Okay, so I get that you're trying to mess with me. I just don't understand why. You're a freaking archdaemon.....what difference does it make to you who I'm attracted to? Do you really think I'm going to be manipulated by that? This is hardly the first time someone has tried to bully me," he said defiantly, hoping to draw out the conversation to give time for some kind of reinforcements to show up. Which would have been more inspiring if it hadn't ended with a coughing fit. It was much harder to breathe in here without his flight suit.

The shifting and whirling walls, with the Sigils, display further signs of their alterations-- and soon enough, they will change.

Spellcraft DC25:
Anyone grasping the basics of what's going on with the Sigils would realize they are being altered to do exactly the opposite of their intent, allow ease of entry from anywhere, strengthen their material form, and the such. This being is literally altering spells by destroying 'key aspects' of the weaving, for it's intent. In about 3 'rounds' they will change without assistance or being stopped-- that is, the ones that remain undamaged by random fire blasts and the like.

There's only a moment of silence, especially after the coughing, "Tut tut-- Hero. I am not bullying you, I am doing what is in my nature, seeking to unravel you before you become ...more than you are. This is how I show my interest in something as great as you might be, while ignoring half-breeds and mistakes of chaotic breeding. It goes deeper than mere attraction-- though you might not grasp that, yet. As for ... titles? Only yours matters right this moment. Any one of my so called ilk would do similar, in a fashion of their reflection, to end you before you grew. It's a compliment, really. We are fueled by our hatred, our natures, so simple yet oft made complicated."

The ground shifts a few more times, and then one of the walls takes on a face of sorts, the surface of metal shifting as easily as the surface of a pond would, turning to peer Jeran's way. Vare and David could tell that the thing's attention was on Jeran at this time, though the room continued it's conversion into a death pit, filled with the acidic air, chemical fumes and fire destroying breathable air. Only the fires provided illumination now, Vare might 'see' the surrounding more and more as the deeper Abyssal planes usually are.

Peering over it asks, "Does that make sense, Hero? I name thee-- naught for what you were called at birth, but for what your potential is-- that is your threat and interest to me. The potential you hold right now, is what compels my attention. The line between Love and Hate, and I will always choose the latter, my existence allows no other choice. I will be rewarded for this, even if I hate my own existence, I hate what you represent more."

With a chuckle, it then says, "Think of it. Self sacrifice- you entertain the notion, I did not have to say much to prompt that thought. The nobility, the gesture you can offer so many others. Renounce any Love for your peers, and I will steal that away to consume and unravel. You would not lie, would you, Hero? That's all it would take. No more Love, ever. Only the cold, unflinching depths of a rational mind. Does that make it more tempting than the alternatives?" The row of toothy grin after that, makes it all the more frightening when spoken.

Jeran bowed his head and there was a long moment of silence from him as he appeared to be thinking things over.

"Sidon. It's not a name that would mean anything to you, but it means the world to me. He was my little brother. He was still very young when our father died, and not much older when he was killed by my uncle out of pety spite. *cough, cough* If you had made me that offer when I was ten, I would have taken it and thanked you for it, I was that desperate to get away from the pain. But I'm not ten anymore. *cough, cough* I remember Sidon every day. I got justice for him, but that wasn't enough. Everything I ever learned to believe about the strong being meant to protect the weak instead of ruling over them, it was all for love of my brother. *cough, cough* Which is why I am willing to sacrifice my life if it will save the people here. I don't want to die, but I accepted that possibility the first time I put on that flight suit. *cough, cough* But I can't accept this offer. I know what I would become without love. A monster. I can't save the people of this world from destruction by becoming a creature of it myself. My answer is no," he said, falling to his knees as a stronger coughing fit shook his body. He wasn't going to last much longer in this poisoned air, especially while talking so much.

you are correct, Lang probably does not fully understand what a gift like that means. and I know that he wanted to give you something special. a weapon is something he saw you prized. he also trusts you to use that weapon wisely.

Lang does not use weapons, except for his staff, but he knows that weapons are a part of the world. they are a tool that can be used for good as well as evil. If the time ever came that such a weapon is needed, you would be there to stand by his side. he trusts you.

as far as weapons being allowed, one thing that is important to note, this temple does train its monks in the use of weapons, including swords and spears. only those that are skilled in their use will be carrying such a weapon, lang believes you are skilled enough. wear that blade with honor. you are a guest of Lang, none here will question or challenge you.

Sun hope that he has explained everything but then suddenly as a side note Oh, would you want to put on a demonstration of your skills? I can be sure it is arranged.

Midori nods as Sun speaks, listening intently while gripping the silk package tightly to her side.

"It's not just a tool... it's a symbol. The gift of a weapon is... for us it means trust. Lots of trust." Midori frowns at her own word choice, apparently failing to select a better word. Despite her proficiency, Common is still clearly a second language. "It means you trust that person will never have need to turn that weapon on you." she shakes her head again, a bit frustrated with her inability to express herself.

"I will wear it. Thank you, Sun-san."

At the mention of giving a skills demonstation, Midori immediately blushes to her ears, her head dropping down a little. "Anoo... I don't... think I would like being the center of so much attention." she says somewhat squeakily.

Sun puts a hand on her shoulder and smiles assuredly Lang does trust you. more than you probably know. and he hopes you have the same trust in him.

as for the demo, if you are not comfortable, then we will not mention it any further.

It's a look of disgust on the features of the wall-face, while watching Jeran speak. Clearly the mere re-counting of the tale is disturbing to the creature.

"A Hero, through and through. You are a greater threat than you even suspect-- and the lure to my Hate. I knew your potential as you stood defiant against my jailer. Even if out of ignorance. You ... mortals, disgust me. Life disgusts me. You have choices before you-- one you reject, though the prior offer remains. I wish to leave here, there is nothing immediately I need, and my desires can be staved for another time. But it is YOU, Hero, that bound this room. Revert it as to before, or welcome in a new gateway to the Abyss within your very halls. Soon the one will be many-- many more. Act now, before you lose your soul to the horrors of destruction in it's rawest form. Born in opposition to Existence's birth."

Jeran's shoulder glows, as the light seems to usher out from within his flight suit, warming him and soothing his fears, while the creature speaks. There's a rise in it's tone, a slight urgency when it speaks.

The Sigil's continue their changing, turning where once white before, an orange, hue-ing towards red. Closer now to their perverted state.

The entire Mech Bay shudders and the walls ripple, though it seems to want to scream, the walls can only buckle at the violation of their form in silence.

Vare took the helmet and shoved it on rapidly, grimacing at Jeran's words. Yes, beings of Creation, but not beings of good. There was a reason the Realms Above and the Realms Below had fought since time immemorial with no clear victor: they were anathema to one another. A double-edged blade. Just as that which is holy cleanses the profane, so too did evil corrupt that which is pure. Vare needed a third option. Luckily, he had one.

With a single word of power, all else in the room froze.

Vare casts Time Stop for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 rounds of extra time.

Round 1:
Quickened Bear's Endurance
Summon Monster IX to summon a Dreamlike Astral Deva

Round 2:
Quickened Fire Shield
Summon Monster IX to summon 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 Dreamlike Elder Positive Energy Elementals.

Round 3:
Quickened Shield
Summon Monster VIII to summon 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 Dreamlike Huge Positive Energy Elementals.[/i]

As reality returns to it's normal pace, it seems that the army Jeran requested appears, as light floods into the room. Though it is initially difficult to tell due to the radiance of the creatures summoned, it seems like the creatures are... off, somehow. Like a child dreamed them up. They are rife with exaggerated proportions and there's an almost cartoony look to them

"Nothing can match the creative power of dreams." Vare says simply, as his army goes to work.

The Astral Deva casts Holy Aura. The elementals will all channel for healing, healing Vare and Jeran of any damage sustained.

And I'm out of time!!

Just to clarify, Jeran had to give the entire flight suit to Vare. The helmet doesn't work without the air tanks and without it being sealed. Jeran helped Vare put the suit on. Jeran is wearing a tank top, so the glowy symbol on his shoulder is quite visible.

Jeran stood up, bolstered by the healing powers of Vare's summoned creatures.
"The broken sigils aren't changing! They're not working at all! Dave, smash the sigils! Smashing things is what you're good at, right?" he yelled, picking up a broken beam again and smashing it into the wall.

He shook his head. "Maybe we've all been doing too good a job at hiding all this crap.......I really should talk to somebody about that.....or not.....it's.....probably not my responsibility anymore.....huh. That's just......weird," he said, his voice trailing off as the reality of not actually being on call if the world needed saving finally started to sink in. "Is this what normal feels like? I'm not sure I like it."

Illithia just rolls her eyes and sticks her tongue out at Keme. "Don't be such a drama queen. The multiverse has survived this long, I'm sure it'll survive a while longer. And I'm pretty sure being able to turn into a fox with five-tails precludes you from being "normal"." The word normal comes complete with air quotes!

She tilts her head to the side slightly and the celestial fox makes a fantastic leap and lands square on top on Keme's noggin, doing it's best to balance there. "So like, are you gonna be a drama-llama or are we gonna find something fun to do?"

"So much fun," he said dryly as he lifted the celestial fox off his head and set it down. "I already feel like I'm interacting with my age group back home," he added, rolling his eyes. Not that this girl would know that his age group was the kitsune equivalent of toddlers. His faster aging had made for a very lonely childhood. "Guess I'll just have to stick to the drama. Saving the world might not be my problem anymore, but finding the person who hurt my friend still is. So unless you think investigations are fun, then you'll just have to find someone else to torment."

Dave snorts and casts the spell himself from a scroll and says "it's be best if I remain mobile, but if you're so concerned, I'm covered now"
Jeran Darkclaw wrote:

Dave snorts at the not so subtle jab at his perantage muttering "come on now some originality would be appreciated, keeps it entertaining at least" but then Jean nearly collapsed and Dave sighs and flys over to the member of their party not able to breathe and casts air bubble on him same as he had on himself earlier "darn fool thing to do, taking off that suit, the professor and I are spell casters, I'd assume he'd know such a useful and simple spell, you still need to breathe though" just after that he was surrounded by elementals "you summoned fire elementals? Wait no not fire, positive energy I suppose that's useful, now get something that can flush him out of the ground, maybe a bunch of elder earth elementals!"
Jeran Darkclaw wrote:

Just to clarify, Jeran had to give the entire flight suit to Vare. The helmet doesn't work without the air tanks and without it being sealed. Jeran helped Vare put the suit on. Jeran is wearing a tank top, so the glowy symbol on his shoulder is quite visible.

Jeran stood up, bolstered by the healing powers of Vare's summoned creatures.
"The broken sigils aren't changing! They're not working at all! Dave, smash the sigils! Smashing things is what you're good at, right?" he yelled, picking up a broken beam again and smashing it into the wall.

Dave grins, his many sharp teeth exposed for all to see "it's but one of many things at which I excel, very viscerally pleasing too," he says before shooting off with blinding speed impaling his diamond hard enchanted sword arm through one of the key sidgils, completely destroying it and chucking a powerful bolt of fire at one of the others to damage it.

Autohypnosis Check: 1d20+47

With the help of his Lace, Fei manages to rein in his powers before the room is leveled. He kneels down by Vai's barely moving form, trying to gauge his ability to stabilize her condition without either killing her or returning her to consciousness...

Heal Check: 1d20+37

None of Fei's considerable senses or instincts tell him that there is any illusory magic or deception present, and so he approaches and begins examining her condition.

There's massive damage to her chest and abdomen, and major breaks in several of her limbs, including a pair compound fractures in an arm and a wing. Massive internal bleeding as well as likely a concussion and a host of other injuries that should be fatal.

Were it not for the fact that she slowly seems to be healing, knitting herself back together, Fei would say that she had mere moments to live. Instead, as it stands, there appears to be some sort of regeneration or fast healing magic in play. She'll probably be conscious again in a few minutes at this rate.

Mech Bay, Destroyed

The illumination from the instantly appearing Positive Elementals, along with the Deva's sudden Holy Aura are blinding, but not to the people near or around it. The same 'warmth' that Jeran feels, flows through even stronger bolstered now by the Army of that are about.

Given their size, though, some of the bigger Elementals aren't quite in the Aura's radius-- but that's neither here nor there.

Sigils are skewered by one hand, and blasted by another attack, helping in disrupting their purpose. One might question the why-- but in Vare's vision, definitely useful. For anyone with any Arcane skill, definitely useful.

A snarl of disgust, as there's even MORE Life in the Mech Bay, and the beam smacks soundly into where the face was before. Sure it breaks the metal, or bends somewhat, but if there's any actual damage done to the other, that's not clear.

"Annoying gnats! I will return one day, especially now that I've been armed as I have with a sampling of your spirits! Your puny magics mean nothing to one such as me. Our dance will continue another time, Hero. Consider yourself of interest-- good luck with the conflict of meaningless gains. You are just play things! ALL OF YOU!!! Meaningless and empty!!!"

The room buckles some more, the walls shudder and waves of the physical shift and move, compressing and expanding as reality shifts beyond it's ability or origins should. In a massive hurling and twisting of metal and stone behind it, breaking through where beam or sword hand pierced through, it shifts into a singular formation as one might do invoking a master spell beyond mortal keen-- and then an implosion occurs, draining into it, all life, energy and foulness of the fire borne airs.

Effectively, for dramatic effect, the 'students' and Professor can avoid this, but a few of the NPCs won't, namely one or two elementals. You can post your reactions however you want, but going into, flying into, or chasing into this, effectively will kill you outright.

Ripping the Prime Material open, and blending the darkest nether reaches of the Abyssal or beyond, together, results in a death field and implosion. Those within the Holy Aura and protective warding are untouched by this, while a few of the Elementals struggle to avoid the pull and are irrevocably pulled in and compressed, slain outright to vanish from existence. It's a sort of reverse 'flash', as utter darkness and cold spreads out from within, since everything warm and alive is drawn and sucked towards the pinpoint center, a mini-black hole of destruction.

Then, just as suddenly, a silence returns. The room is devoid of any breathable air (choke if you cannot breath/hold your breath/have a spell going) and horribly bent and twisted into a shape that hurts the eyes to look at, it's bent form heralding unspoken horrors in form alone that would drive lesser beings to raving madness.

You're all fairly sure whatever was here with you, due to it's aura and presence now gone, just left rudely and took a few elementals and all energy/oxygen with it, from the sealed room. A good portion of the caustic and poisoned air is gone too, but this is a vacuum Mech Bay now, utterly destroyed. The remaining elementals will keep your body physical 'fit', but if you cannot find a source for air RIGHT AWAY, you will suffocate and die per the rules. Not too bothered by it, should be dramatic though! Spell casting might be limited due to this.

...anyone associated with the school, or sensitive to it's sentient nature, would feel the backlash of it's pain and suffering, having touched Destruction and is now tainted, not unlike suddenly getting a cancerous growth immediately and instantly, only to have that removed just as soon as it spawned. Nothing gentle just happened. The walls would weep if they could. Angels would turn away, if not Deva level.

This action can't happen as stated because it ignores actions that happened in the recent past, and it physically can't happen. Jessa was at the door and I believe may have already knocked, but that's irrelevant as the next event that happened was Kevin literally bursting through the door to talk to the headmaster. Shortly after which Dave showed up to deliver more news and then teleported off again. Point being, you can't knock on a door that is not currently in place.
